Alt+ key combination shifts focus to menu
Hi All,
In 10g, we have mapped Alt+F1 for a user-defined action.
However once the action is completed, the focus shifts to the menu.
When we use another combination like Shift+Alt+F1, this does not happen.
Any clues as to why the focus shifts to menu?

That may be happening because you have the same key combination specified in your menu.
Are you using the default Oracle Forms menu???

Unfortunately this happens not only with Alt-Key combinations. It also
happens with the ordinary F10 key: Windows activates the menu and then
Forte gets the FKey event. The problem is that now the user has to press
ESC to deactivate the menu and continue normal processing. There is no
known cure yet...

Ah ha - okay. So you're using escapes too, rather than meta8 (this is the default, so makes sense). Yeah, I got it working doing that, but had to adapt my .vimrc to get it to acknowledge the ^[ as "alt". Didn't you, or did a simple map of e.g. <A-a> suffice?
Are you running it in screen/tmux btw? and what is your TERM set to?
Yeah, I thought that too and though I do run it in tmux usually, I've been testing it both with and without (TERM is set to screen-256color BTW) and it made no difference. Still, unless I specifically map the ^[ to alt in vim, it doesn't work. With meta8 it works so long as the locale is not UTF-8.
Guess I've got a workaround for now, but it would be nice if meta8 and utf-8 worked nicely together.

I am using the alt-key combination, Alt-9734, to produce this star ☆ in a marquee I created in DW 5.5. Works fine in IE but not Safari or Chrome. In these two browsers the star is showing as,

Alt key shortcut woes in InDesign CS6
Greetings,
Our company recently switched from Macs to PCs for design work. Now all of the keyboard shortcuts that had been assigned on the Mac and started with the Option key (e.g., Opt + numeric keypad 1) have switched to the Alt key on the PC (e.g., Alt + numeric keypad 1) and no longer work. All of the shortcuts that use Alt in combination with the Control or Shift keys along with a number from the numeric keypad work as expected. The cause apparently is tied to the Windows OS, which uses the Alt key to shift focus to application menus.
My question is, has anyone found a straight-forward solution or workaround to this issue? Our designers count on those keyboard shortcuts to apply Paragraph, Character and Object styles. Having to revert to selecting from a palette rather than invoking the keyboard shortcut is truly costly in terms of time--a problem exacerbated by tight production deadlines. We have used all of the shortcut options that involve the shift and control keys, so switching the Alt key shortcuts isn't a legitimate option. We've look at using something like Auto Hotkey but have not successfully implemented that, and would prefer not to have to rely on that as a solution in the first place.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

KevinBob and Peter, thanks for your posts. Bob, I had previously come across the article by Sandee Cohen that you referenced. The technique there seems to provide a method to remap InDesign's keyboard shortcuts to allow use of the Alt key for events within ID, but I haven't been able to apply this strategy to custom shortcuts applied to paragraph, character and object styles. And the designer who developed our shortcuts very systematically used all of the available combinations (shift, option/alt, control, alone or in combos, and 0 through 9 on the numeric keypad). They had a great system on the Mac that unfortunately has now fallen apart on the PC.
I'll keep digging and definitely welcome more advice. Thanks again!

Problem with alt key in Photoshop CC2014
I'm running Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 Release under Win 7 on a dual monitor system 12 G ram, i7 processor, and a Radeon HD 6700 Graphics card. Everything was working fine until a few days ago. The first problem I noticed was in using ALT-left click to reduce zoom. CTRL-left click zoomed up OK but ALT-left click acted almost like I was pressing the F key to change the view. There are work-arounds for zooming so I continued working. Then I found I could not add a black mask to a layer by pressing ALT while clicking the add layer mask button on the layer panel. I also found that ALT didn't work right in ACR. For example in ACR holding down the ALT key changes the Cancel button to Reset, but clicking on Reset doesn't in fact reset any of the sliders.
I've closed and reopened Photoshop which helped for a short while but the problem came back. I opened Photoshop with the SHIFT-CTRL-ALT keys held down and accepted the resulting dialog box offer to delete preferences, which helped but again the problem returned. I've deleted and redownloaded Photoshop two or three times to no avail, and the last time I also checked that alt key combinations in both Bridge and Lightroom work OK at the same time they are not working in Photoshop. I haven't seen the Alt key misbehave in any application but Photoshop.
I would any suggestions any of you might have about what is wrong.
Message was edited by: Bob Roby to fix typos.Just to clarify, are you referring to Alt Space bar left click and drag for zoom? If yes, then that needs 'Use GPU' enabled in Preferences > Performance. So can you check that? It actually works with either Ctrl or Alt together with the space bar. Left mouse click and drag left and right to zoom in and out.
If GPU is checked, can you try some different settings?

I am working on an eLearning course whereas client requied
the course to be keyboard accessible. He wants all the shortcuts
with Alt key combination.
I can trap the Alt key with the use of enterframe but that
makes my course processing heavy so I tried to trap Alt key with
keylistener event but unfortunately keylistener event doesn't
listen Alt key
Could anyone suggest me how to trap Alt key without using
enterframe or interval?
Thanks a lot for sparing your precisious time.I believe Alt-Space is a keyboard shortcut in Windows XP to bring up the window menu for any app...so it's not just a LabVIEW thing. Further, it appears that Windows grabs that key combination before a LabVIEW event structure can get it. I don't know any way around this behavior, since Windows appears to be taking matters into its own hands with certain key combinations. My advice would be to use a different key combination for your app.

Applescript to shift focus from sheet's pane to the table
Cmd + Option + return shifts focus from the table to the sheet's pane. However, I haven't found a key that shifts focus back to the table. Therefore, I would appreciate an applescript that selects column A of the last row of the table, no matter which sheet has focus in the shift's pane.

The script below will select the cell in the first table if only the sheet is selected.
Also I noticed the name main is somehow reserved in Automator and so replaced main() with _main() for use with it.

T420i Fn and ALT keys trigger sleep or shutdown

I need help with my T420i, that started to become weird few weeks ago.
symptoms : it shuts down or enters sleep mode while working. First i thought it was somehow random, but then i've reliazed that it happened when i typed Fn or CTRL+ALT key combinations. It first happened while using ubuntu installed in dual boot, but it appears to behave the same under win7.
Diagnosis and repairs trials :
> with a linux live distrib : same behaviour
> using ultimate boot cd : memory check, hdd check, video memory check, with no issue
> formatted the disk and installed debian from zero : same behaviour once installed
> wiped the disk using UBCD (partmagic), and re-installed everything from the initial recovery dvds -> back to original win7 installation
> updated all the drivers and softwares, flashed the bios to new version.
> Tried with an external keyboard : no issue
> Unmounted the keyboard, checked the connector, and made tests with keyboard unmounted, in order to assess whether it could be due to a short-circuit between the keyboard cable and the mother board or the roll cage : no effect.
I suspect a hard problem with the keyboard itself, but is there any other tests i could have forgotten, remaining options to explore ?
If you believe it is actually the keyboard that needs to be replaced, how should i do to have my computer repaired, or to be sent a new keyboard, since it is still under warranty?

Oracle 10g key combination to call form trigger
Hi everyone,
I need to fire the KEY-DUPREC trigger as I click on the key combination Shift+P therefore; I added the following line of code in the frmweb.res file.
80 : 1 : "Shift+P" : 64 : "Duplicate Record"
It worked iff no error was raised. So, if I have a raise form trigger failure in the KEY-DUPREC trigger, a capital P will appear in the text field that called the trigger.
Can you please suggest a solution for preventing the capital P from appearing in the text field if a raise trigger failure existed in the KEY-DUPREC.

LanaI don't know if there is a solution, but it sounds to me like a very bad idea to use Shift-P for duplicate_record. This means that you will never be able to input a capital letter P in any text field.

I keep working on a document, having to zoom in and out as well as change brush sizes and hardness, almost everything that involves the alt key, and it keeps getting me stuck on the menu bar. This will either reset my tool to the previous one I was working with, cause me to button mash the alt key until something works again, or click on the image and undo whatever happened so that I can use what my desired feature is.
Is there some way that I can take away the ALT key functionality to select any menu items so that I don't have to go through this, or is it simply a Windows 7 thing? Cause this is annoying as hell.This probably has to do with the order in which the keys were pressed. If you press Alt first, does it work the way you want it to?

I am using Jmenu/menubar/item on a JFrame in my applicatrion. I set mnemonics to the menus and menu items. When I press the ALT+Mnemonic it is working fine. At the same time if I press only ALT key the menu on the frame is not getting selected. At the same time if I press F10 the menu on the bar is getting selected.
Normally in windows pressing the ALT key will select the first menu bar.

Software that prevents key combinations from working
Under OSX 10.4.7 the key combination "shift + l" does not produce "L" on my iMac. Everything else seems fine including lower case L. If I start the iMac from the OS software installation disk (OSX 10.4.4) or startup in Windows XP using Boot Camp or start OSX in "safe mode" then "shift + l" does produce "L".
Also, I have an eMac (also OSX 10.4.7) for which the key combination "shift + /" does not produce "?". If I startup in "safe mode", "shift + /" does produce "?".
I have never installed any software for setting "hotkeys". How do I identify what software on my hard drives is preventing these key combinations from working?

I used the "Activity Monitor" utility to see what was different between "safe mode" and my regular startup. I noticed that the "Speech synthesis server" was one difference. I found the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option in the preferences pane for "Speech". That was the problem.
It would be nice if there was a warning message that said, "You will not be able to type '?' if you assign that key combination to Speech." -
Stop alt from shifting focus to the menu?
Hi,
Every time I press Alt the focus shifts to the menu bar, just as it does with other windows programs.
This means I have to escape the menu every time I zoom, which is time consuming and extremely irritating.
Does anyone know how to stop this behaviour so indesign and photoshop remain focused on the main page rather than shifting to the menu bar?
Windows vista running indesign through creative cloud and Photoshop elements 9 installed from disc.
Also, will this problem persist when I upgrade to a new windows 7 machine in a couple of weeks?

Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sureMouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, seeUnable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.

If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.

Is there a way to find out how many connections are in use in the pool for a particular data source? I've gone through the Visualizer and JMX. I can find the configuration, but no MBEANS or metrics for how many connections are actually in use?

After installing Lion OSX on Macbook Air, no longer wakes from sleep
Since installing Lion and after update to 10.7.4, Mac book Air no longer wakes from sleep. Have to hold pwr key for a few seconds and restart. Tried resetting SMC and PRAM but no effect.
