Alt key stucks in my lenovo s10-3t and i have to press it 2 or 3 times to release it .... i encourted this problem in tablet mode so i think that this is not a physical keyboard problem ...

due to i don't have s10-3t, i suggest you to check the manuals first. it should have some informations about cleaning the keyboard.

Hp t510 right alt key mapping not working with ctrl + s

Using the HP t510 to launch a xendesktop session via storefront. We have a mission critical application that uses the ctrl + alt + s hotkey to secure itself. The left alt key with ctrl + s is working as it should but the right alt key does not. When testing in the win7 on screen keyboard the right alt and ctrl stay lit up. When hitting the S key after depressing both the right alt + ctrl (right or left ctrl doesn't matter) the alt keys disappear from the on screen keyboard as if they were no longer pushed. They hotkey combination never makes it to the application and it does not secure itself.
I've tested this same workflow on an ASUS thin client, desktop, and laptop hardware with no issues. It does in fact seem to be some hotkey mapping the HP device has baked into it using the right alt key.
Has anyone seen any issues that even closely mimic this? I've seen some for ctrl + alt + del but their fixes don't work for this specific issue.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to launch firefox 3.6.3 with windows vista? Hot key (ctrl + alt + key) does not work.

The hot key (ctrl + alt + key) does not work. This is in Windows Vista.

Thank you Morbus and Cor-el, for your prompt replies. Here's what I did: I've placed the Firefox icon in the quick launch toolbar. So I right-click this firefox icon>Properties>Shortcut tab>in Shortcut Key field, add X (the word "None" changes to "ctrl + alt + X")>Apply>Okay>and that closes the dialog window.
Then, to try the new launch short-cut, I press and hold down, in order, ctrl, then alt, then x (holding all three down) . . . and nothing launches.
I thought this would do it! So any further thoughts would be a splendid help ---- many thanx!

Command key is stuck (not physically)

I tried to log into my computer today, and I found that I could not type anything in the password box whatsoever.
I then decided to log into a guest account (no password needed), and I found that I still couldn't type anything.
Messing around with pressing random keys, I discovered that the Command key is stuck, although physically it is raised and non-pressed like any other key. Typing "N" will bring up a new window, typing "T" will open a new tab, typing "F" will bring up the search screen... It is obvious that my computer is registering every keystroke as if the Command key is held down.
This effectively prevents me from typing anything whatsoever, as well as from logging into my main account.
I've already tried a restart and a NVRAM reset, both to no avail.
Any help?

have you tried plugging in a USB keyboard, to see if it’s only your built-in keyboard that’s affected, or if it’s any keyboard that’s affected?

Alt key stuck when using mouse in flash CS5.5 on os x lion. sucks. please help.

since I've updated to lion flash cs5.5 is utterly unusable. The alt key is always stuck in this app when I use the mouse. So if I select something then try to move it, it copies it (as if I was holding down alt key). It basically means I can't use flash for anything..
Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?
I saw similar forum posts for photoshop cs5 and snow leopard, and even tried the utility provided on those forums. Didn't work.
I removed my wacom tablet driver,
I reinstalled flash,
I shut down EVERYTHING except flash. Nothing works - alt key is always active in flash.
Is this some kind of bad joke from Adobe? Is there really no fix for this? I can't believe it - honestly...
Additional note - in the key remapping page - it reckognizes the alt key normally, and all other key combinations - it is only when using the mouse that the alt key is stuck.

I was having the same exact problems with Flash Professional after upgrading my OS X to Lion. (Alt/Option key seems like it's stuck / Duplicating objects on stage just by clicking and moving the object.) My main problem was not being able to curve a straight line with the Arrow tool. Instead it would create a corner point as if the Alt/Option key was being held.
I stumbled upon this thread before finding my solution so I thought I'd share what worked for me.

Basically I had a program called AirDisplay installed. AirDisplay allows me to use my iPad as a second monitor for my Mac. So if you have this program installed, or one similar to AirDisplay, uninstalling this program may get your Flash Professional to work correctly again. It certainly did for me to my amazement.

Alt key stuck

I bought a new iMac about four days ago. Brought it home, set it up and it's working lovely. However very recently I find that whenever I begin typing in a browser or text edit that it comes up with symbols instead of the usual letters, as it would if I was holding down the alt key.
This only started happening today and when I bring up the view keyboard it seems to recognise the alt key being down. I'm using the wireless keyboard that came with it. I tried switching the keyboard off and on, it works fine for about twenty seconds but then resumes as if I'm holding down the alt key. Switching off the alt key doesn't seem to work either and I've made sure sticky keys isn't on. I've also checked the battery power of the keyboard and it seems to be at full.
I'm quite at a stump here. I've looked on other forums and people with the same problem don't really have a solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now..... I can write letters but can not do symbols! I want my symbols back!
Everytime i use the symbols i have to do the long way around (the 'sym' sign) Help!

Hi everyone,im experiencing this for almost 2 months,and it doesnt allows me to play game,my keyboard just keeps pressing alt by itself,i need to use a program to disable alt so i can type,but i still cant play and i really use the alt key a lot in games.

In addition, this issue can also be caused by sticky key feature.
Sticky Keys is an operating system feature designed to minimize the repeated pressing of keys. People typically trigger this behavior by accident when they quickly press a key many times consecutively.
If you find the Sticky Keys feature particularly annoying, it can be turned off for good.
1. Click Start → Control Panel → Ease of Access → Change how your keyboard works.
2. Click “Set up Sticky Keys” (or press ALT+C). The “Sticky Keys setup” section of the Ease of Access Center.
3. If there is a check in the box labeled “Turn On Sticky Keys”, un-check it.
4. Un-check “Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times”. Screenshot of check boxes in the Sticky Keys configuration screen.
5. Click the OK button to save your changes.
Then, I suggest you restart Interface Device Access Service to check the results.

Keys getting stuck (not physically)

Hi,
Today I realized that my ctrl key gets stuck. If I try and press ctrl + 1 nothing happens, but if I after that press just 1 it behaves as i pressed ctrl + 1 and it won't stop behaving like that until I press just ctrl to "deactivate" it.
The only way to solve it temporarily is to restart the computer
This started after the following changes to the computer was done:
Used the software updater (not used since buying the computer in may/june or so)
Installed USB Overdrive
Installed WoW
Any ideas on how this could be solved?

Try resetting the SMC and if that doesn't handle it try resetting the PRAM. Here are instructions if you aren't familiar with these:
_SMC RESET_
• Shut down the computer.
• Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected. Disconnect all peripherals.
• On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
• Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.
_PRAM RESET_
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys.

The "k" key is not physically responding as supposed to. What to do?

So the "k"-button on my keyboard is not responding as supposed to. The upper left corner of the key is completely incompressible. The other three corners is working as supposed to.
The MBA is less than 14 days old. Shuld i arrange a repair or can I fix this myself somehow (preferred)?

Since you mention the 14 day exchange period, I presume you bought it directly from Apple.
Get the unit to an Apple Store, to either exchange the unit, or get it fixed. Do this before 14 days expire, so the exchange option remains viable if it is not a simple fix.

ALT key stuck in JDev only ?!? (9.0.2)

I have been using 9.0.2 for some time without this problem.
Suddenly I cannot type anything i JDeveloper, but keys which access menu's, like F=File etc.
The weird thing is, that all other applications function as normal.
Reboot seems to solve the problem for a very short time. Then the problem reoccurs.
Help !!!

Does just restarting JDeveloper solve the problem (even if only temporarily)? Does this happen consisently after performing a specific task? It would help us determine if the problem has already been fixed in 9.0.3.

I cannot get my menu bar back. have tried the above fixes and nothing. And I dont have an expansion button to click on. My screen is out of full view mode.

Ctrl/Alt Keys not Working in Parallels

Hi,
I'm running Illustrator CS6 using Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7. It appears that the ctrl/alt keys do not work. Has anyone found a solution? I've tried resetting my preferences and restarting my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciaed.

Although this is an old thread, I also seem to be having the same sort of issues with Illustrator CS2 in Snow Leopard running under Parallels Desktop 9.
Re. the proposed solution, there does not seem to be a 'Virtual Machine -> Configure -> Options -> Advanced -> Optimize modifier keys for games' option in Desktop 9 - or I've not found it.
I will pursue this in the Parallels forums, but if anyone here has found a solution, I'd be interested to hear it.

Key Stuck

I have an HP EliteBook 2760p Tablet PC Win7 Professional 64Bit started using it on 14/12/2011 is there still time on my warranty and i am a heavy user
my problem is that my Down arrow key is stuck not physically but rather somthing wrong with the system or drive, I have tried the on screen keyboard and it doesnt shows the key being used. It starts after 30 minutes or so after a log in i cant format my laptop because i dont have a back-up copy so is there any other solution???
please help me all my work is on that Laptop.

Problem with ALT key display

Hello,
I am having an aesthetic problem with my q10 that i just got today. I was entering some contacts into my phone when I realized that the ALT key is activated whenever I add phone numbers. When I first got the phone the ALT key did not light up whenever I put contact numbers on my phone. I restarted, and set the phone to the factory settings but this will still not disapear.
I am wondering if there is a way if I could the ALT key to not be showing while I put in contact numbers. It does not effect my phone, its just annoying to see something that didn't used to be there.

Just to clarify, are you referring to Alt Space bar left click and drag for zoom? If yes, then that needs 'Use GPU' enabled in Preferences > Performance. So can you check that? It actually works with either Ctrl or Alt together with the space bar. Left mouse click and drag left and right to zoom in and out.
If GPU is checked, can you try some different settings?

You should also make sure the video card driver is fully up to date, and from the card maker's web site.

Both Shift keys are not working

Hi,
My laptop both the shift keys stopped working suddenly,I tried few possibilities like holding shift keys alternately and at a time for few minutes, and along with Ctl key,Alt key, but not solved my problem.Please suggest me.......as soon as possible.

I have being experiencing this frightening problem since this afternoon. And from reading this forum, I am only seeing the challenges that we are facing, but no one to offer a solution or an explanation as to why this is happening. HP support we need some answers thank you.
Just let us know what is causing this problem and how can we fix it so we can get on with our lives.
