  • Alt + Scroll for zoom problem with Photoshop CS3

    Running Adobe Photoshop CS3
Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 3
When I check the "Zoom with Scroll Wheel" box in Preferences > General:
-using zoom tool, scroll wheel will zoom out to the smallest size, but will only zoom in until image is slightly larger than the file window then slides the image left and right or up and down depending on size of file window. When image is slightly larger than the file window, zoom out doesn't work anymore
-using Alt + Scroll does nothing
-Ctrl + Scroll zooms image the way Alt + Scroll should
When I UNcheck the "Zoom with Scroll Wheel" box in Preferences > General:
-using Alt + Scroll scroll wheel will zoom out to the smallest size, but will only zoom in until image is slightly larger than the file window then will neither zoom in or out anymore
-using Ctrl + Scroll slides the image left and right
In either preference setting, using ALT key causes letters for menus in the tool bar to be underlined

  • 'Alt + Scroll wheel' zoom function lacking in Muse

Hi all! While Muse is a very intuitive program to get to grips with, one feature that I see lacking is the ability to use the 'Alt +Scroll wheel' zoom command. I use this in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and I am a little confused as to why it is not in Muse. I would LOVE to see this implemented. As would many of my freinds and co-workers. Is there a reason it is not available? Arrivederci!

    Hi Paul,
I'm not quite sure what Bozhinov was meaning, but what I was saying is that the funcionality of holding the Alt key down whilst using the mouse scrollwheel to zoom would be an extremely useful feature in Muse. The same feature you have in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, for instance.

  • Bring back Alt-Scroll-Wheel zoom

PS's alt-scroll-wheel zoom shortcut is just too useful to leave out

  • BUG: Alt+Scroll to Zoom with 4K Monitor on Windows

Windows 8.1 users with 4K monitors and have Windows' upscaling enabled, please let me know if you can reproduce in the comments! If you have a Mac, you can try to reproduce too, to see if it's just a Windows thing.
I recently setup a 28" 4K monitor for my Windows machine, and upgraded to Windows 8.1, because it has better independent monitor scaling. I also still have a 1920x1080 monitor. (I don't recommend this setup and Windows 8.1 doesn't handle it well. But that's another story)
Premiere Pro is up to date: 2014.2 Release: v8.1, Caravan
By default, Windows has this slider set to the middle recommended setting:
This upscales almost everything seen in Windows, including Premiere Pro's interface.
There's one problem: While hovering over my Timeline, holding down the Alt key and scrolling my mouse wheel doesn't zoom in as it should. It zooms, but the location it zooms into is incorrect.
Here's how Alt+scrolling to zoom usually works:
    - wherever your cursor is located is where you zoom in to. If your cursor is hovering over the CTI, you'll zoom in with the CTI centered. If your cursor is at the 2 minute mark, when you alt-scroll to zoom in, the 2 minute mark will be centered in the timeline.
With Windows 8 scaling turned on, the math that drives Alt+scrolling's centering algorithm is totally thrown off! It's hard to describe in words, so here's a graphic that shows exactly what happens when I place my cursor over the red spots and try alt+scrolling:
If the software was working as intended, the red & yellow arrows would overlap eachother, because your zooming should be centered right where the cursor is.
It's driving me crazy, as I rely on the Alt+Scroll method to zoom. Zoom Tool and the +/- keys aren't granular enough; and resizing the horizontal scrollbar is a newer addition to Premiere that I haven't needed to use just yet, as alt+scroll was working fine for me until upgrading to 4K.
Now, I did consider that my second 1080p monitor might have added to the math problems as it has a different amount of scaling applied to it, but I completely disabled the second monitor and ran tests and had the same bug, so the chance of my second monitor having any affect on this bug is incredibly slim.
    Obviously there are workarounds:
Turn of the Windows DPI scaling. Fixes the problem instantly, but everything is really tiny on the screen, and isn't really recommended
Don't use the Alt+Scroll method to zoom.
I'm assuming this is only a Windows bug, but if someone wants to test this out on a Mac with a Retina display, that would be helpful!
Can anyone else reproduce this bug? If so, can we all file bug reports to make sure the message gets across? I've heard from Mark that that's the best way to make sure the Premiere team takes an issue seriously. If a bug is only reported by a single user, there's a chance that very few users are encountering the issue, and they won't prioritize a fix.

    Hi Tim,
If it's not recommended to use the software when DPI scaling is enabled, it would be nice if the software would give you a one-time warning, letting you know that Premiere Pro hasn't been fully optimized to work properly when scaling is enabled.
Not a bad idea. Would you mind filing a bug report? http://adobe.ly/ReportBug
So, I just installed Premiere Pro the day of this post on a brand new machine. If Caravan isn't the current version, why is Creative Cloud still telling me I'm up to date? I've restarted my computer a few times... the the CC app should know what's apps are up to date and which aren't, correct? Or is it just a mistake that "Caravan" is shown in the about info?
This drives me a little crazy. I will bring this up with my colleagues. The actual version number is at the bottom of the "About Premiere Pro" screen. Because it says 8.1 at the top of the screen is confusing customers.
Another bug at higher DPIs that I noticed after posting this... plugins are cropped wrong. Here's what it looks like if I use a Dynamics effect:
It's annoying, but this one has an easy workaround... just resize the window to way bigger than it should need to be. Sure, the bypass button and presets are partially covered, but it's still usable.
It would be great to get a bug report about that, as well. Thanks!
    So yeah, in conclusion:
It would be great if you could let your customers know up-front in the software that Premiere Pro isn't fully ready for Windows' hardware scaling. Photoshop has a HiDPI setting, but the dev team rightfully tucked it away in an experimental features section.
besides these bugs, the software seems to work as intended, so you guys are almost there, thankfully!
Thanks so much for reporting back.

  • Alt + Scroll wheel zooming

    Hello!
Been working with Muse for a while now and I'm growing to like it more and more, however, there is one thing that bugs me... you can't zoom in and out on your project like you can with Photoshop or Illustrator by using Alt + the scroll wheel on your mouse. You have to select the zoom tool and then faff about with it, then re-select the tool you were working with before you had to faff about with the zoom tool. Workflow would be greatly increased if Muse had this feature I reckon. And less frustrating.
I'm sure the Muse boffins will be rolling this out in a future update but I thought I'd make the suggestion here in the 'Ideas for features in Adobe Muse forum', just in case.
    Thanks!
Also, if said boffins could add a feature that would allow Muse to export a project to WordPress..   that..  would be smashing

I completely agree, the 'alt + scrollwheel zoom' would speed up my workflow like nothing else. I've posted a couple of times about the lack of this functionality.

  • What happened to Alt + Scroll Wheel Zooming while using Polygonal Lasso Tool?

My issue is that when I am working with the Polygonal Lasso tool I am no longer able to use Alt + Mouse Scroll wheel to zoom in and out while making my selection. I have found other ways to zoom in/out, but none are as efficient and fast as the method I just described. I used this function in previous versions of Photoshop and can’t imagine why Adobe would remove it from CS6. Is there a way to re-activate this function?

Were you using a mac (works in photoshop cs4 on a mac) before or which photoshop version on a windows system did that work?
Anyway on windows you could press the spacebar and alt or ctrl and click on the screen to zoom.

  • Alt scroll to zoom does not work in Acrobat anymore, why?

I used this feature all the time before but it does not work anymore. Why?
I have Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite and use a Logitech mouse. Lates versions of all CC-apps.

Still having this issue after an update...
I review a lot of architectural drawings, which requires a lot zooming in/out to see details... Up until this last Acrobat Pro (11) update I was able to press option (Mac) and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out... That convenient feature is now missing... I jacked around with several preferences and Page Display settings with no luck... I am hoping there is a checkbox hidden somewhere that I need to click on... Any clues????
    Thanks...

  • Alt + Scroll will not zoom in until finished scrolling; lags while zooms in (Mac)

I'm using Illustrator and the newest mac pro running the most updated version of os x mavericks, with a bluetooth trackpad as a mouse.
I try to alt + scroll to zoom in but illustrator won't start zooming until I finish scrolling. It is extremely jerky while zooming in.
This makes it impossible to use this feature and is disrupting my work flow quite a bit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    anybody?

  • How do I turn off the alt scroll zoom?  When I'm in Adobe photoshop and illustrator using the pen tool, alt is utilized for another short cut.  I would like to use the alt command for the pen tool instead of zooming into the screen.

How do I turn off the alt scroll zoom?
When I'm in Adobe photoshop and illustrator using the pen tool, alt is utilized for another short cut.  I would like to use the alt command for the pen tool instead of zooming into the screen.

I tend to select things from left to right and every time I am moving in a downward right diagonal motion during lasso selection I am missing a clear view and I am tending to have a more sloppy selection.  All this does is slow me down since I need to go back and hit those areas again.  The big arrowhead just get's in the way.  The original lasso tool with the thin line and small active point at it's lower left was far better for me.
I don't like turning the cursors to precise because I like to see the active tool icon where my cursor is and as the icon changes as I hold modifier keys down.  If I am forced to get comfortable with using pricise cursors I guess I will, but man, I've never had to do this in my 15 years of photoshop use...
I would absolutely LOVE to find a way to get the old lasso icon -- without the arrowhead above it.
Is there any chance this option could be inlcuded in cursor preferences?  I'd give much thanks, Adobe.

  • Why wont Illustrator CC let me use Alt + Scroll on my mouse to zoom in and out smoothly?

When i use Illustrator CS6 i am able to zoom in and out smothly by pressing my option key on my Mac and then scroll with my mouse. It wont let me do that in Illustrator CC, why not? Also i should not that this zoom does not use the zoom tool on the left hand tool bar.
    Thank you for any help.

Did Option+mouse scroll ever zoom smoothly? (Wish it did.)
For me it zooms in hops: 50, 66.67, 100, 150, 200 etc. same as when you click with the zoom tool.
You can of course enter exact zoom %s at the bottom left of the Illie window but that’s not smooth either.

  • Illustrator CC 17.1 Alt + Scroll Wheel seems laggy and broken

I upgraded to illustrator CC 17.1 Yesterday and the scroll wheel zoom seems completely broken.
Is this just me or is anyone else experiencing this? It is a huge issue as I use this a lot during the day.
Is there anytime line for a fix if that has been noticed? Also is there a way to roll back my upgrade?
    Thanks

  • Shortcuts for zooming in Adobe Reader ...

    Hi,
why are the short cuts for zooming in Adobe Reader not the same as in other Adobe applications like Photoshop and Illustrator? CTRL + "+" and CTRL + "-"
What are the short cuts for zooming in Adobe Reader?
    Thanks
    Konrad

    Not at my system:
CTRL+"+" and CTRL+"-" (both on NumPad) have no visual effect.
CTRL+"+" with the "+" on the normal keyboard scrolls down like PageDown.
I use Acrobat 9 Pro 9.3.1 und Windows 7 64bit (but the same effect under 32bit).

  • Turn Off Scroll Wheel Zooming

I need to turn off the scroll wheel zooming in After Effects. If I am looking at a Comp window and I scroll with my mouse, the view zooms in or out. I don't want to do this, especially because I have a Magic Mouse and any stray movement suddenly zooms my window. It's a realy problem. Can I turn this "feature" off?
    iMac i7 running Mac OS X 10.6.2

Feh. If Adobe actually DID listen, they would have taken one of the following steps (in order of likelihood):
added all the features to Illustrator that FreeHand had 10 years ago that are STILL missing.
continued to update/upgrade FreeHand (not as stupid as it sounds...look at how many different clothes detergents Proctor & Gamble makes that compete with one another).
release the source code with a Creative Commons license, and allow developers to create an open source alternative to Illustrator (okay - THAT would be suicidal for illustrator, but a guy can dream).
I know a few things about the way Adobe (and all software companies for that matter) work. I worked for competitiors of theirs, and a company they acquired. Lots of friends still work there at Adobe.
Problem is, what we don't see as consumers is what REALLY goes on there - the jockeying for dominance by one product group over another, the limited resources and the constant battle for them between fixing what's broken (not a money-maker but helps the customers) or adding new features (attracts new customers but introduces more bugs). At Micrografx, we used to joke that a X.0 release was our "X.UH-oh" version. At one time tech support guys would ask each other, "did they want help with the "original recipe" or "extra buggy." But what really kills me is I have a lot invested in FreeHand. And it had features and functionality that is simply not in Illustrator, even now. That's insane. To make an analogy in another area, it's like GM buying Chrysler for their variable-speed transmission, and other cool technology, then discontinuing all the unique features and products, and continuing to sell the same old stuff. I realize that vector drawing is a mature category, but we deserve better than Illustrator.
Even worse is the Windows-centric nature of Adobe. Back in the day, Adobe was a Mac company, first and foremost. Their Windows products were...um...kind of a joke. Illustrator 1.0, for instance, cost $100 more than it's Mac counterpart, and could only PRINT in color...it couldn't display anything in color on the screen. (!) Somewhere along the way, someone made a decision to develop on Windows (with a huge advantage in overall market share, this makes financial sense) and port the code to Macs. That's a BIG mistake, because ported code is, by definition, bloated and unresponsive. It's a cost-effective way to do business...right up until your users wise up. Unfortunately, by going for the larger Windows market, Adobe's forgotten that in graphics, Macs are still the choice of a majority of graphics professionals.
How do they diss Macs? Let me count the ways: let's take video, for instance. Take a Mac and a PC. Equip both with the same CPU, RAM, and Hard Drive. See which one plays back video faster. Surprise! It's the PC. Why? Bloated code. Same is true for Flash. And Photoshop.
The only thing that allows Adobe to get away with listening to their bean counters instead of their customers is they have VERY little competition. In fact, where they DO have competition, they are (surprise again) competitive. Final Cut almost destroyed Premier. But Adobe got serious about improving Premiere, and today it's begining to win the hearts and minds of the Apple faithful.
As I see it, there are two solutions here. I'm good with either one.
Someone (like Apple) steps into to make quailty apps on the Mac that will make it a two horse race. Adobe will improve...or die.
Apple buys Adobe and folds CS6 into their software line, like Final Cut Pro and Logic Studio.
Don't care which happens. But I'm really very unhappy with the state of things as they are. So...Adobe...ARE you listening?

  • Image lags/choppy when scrolling to zoom

Illustrator CS 5.5 - Whenever I scroll to zoom the image resizes with considerable lag and choppyness.  The file is only 1.2 mb and vector.  I am able to move within the window with the arrow keys up and down ok but zooming is painful.  I spend too much time adjusting both ways until I get it just right.  The same image in Photoshop CS 5.5 resizes very smoothly.  I have tried OpenGL and profiles but to no avail.  Does anyone have some words of wisdom to help?  There is no way that the hardware is slow, the video drivers are the latest, Win 7 all updates, and CS5.5 is up to date as well.  Also, it works just fine on another system that is about a basic desktop using CS 4.  Smooth zooming.
System is maxed out - 24 GB RAM, Quad Xeon 3.7 processors, 2 TB 7200rpm hard drive, Nvidia Quadro 5000 2.5GB
    Thanks for any advice.

I can't imagine it would be your system seems like a pretty forceful box.
Have you tried things like trashing the settings folder or resting the preferences?
I am on a Mac pro original way behind what you hav but all functions quickly and here is whaT a 6 mb file looks like zoomed in at 400%
I thin pretty sharp nd it zooms rapidly. Open GL does noT work in Illustrator as  I know. So you have to click or drag a Marquis over an area.
But I think it should be working pretty snappy on you unit.
