Alt Text, tooltip, metadata & keywords.

I own a photographic stuido so our (3) sites are image driven with anywhere from 50 - 300 + images per site. I have been manualy entering Alt text and tool tips for the purpose of raising search visibility however with that many images/graphics it is way too time consuming. If there were a "fill all" option that would be great. Then I could go in and change a few words around in each image and not have to type everything over 200 times. Is that possible. Cut and paste is a step up but still tedious.

  • How do I see more image alt-text in Fennec?

    If I press and hold a link or picture on a webpage, a little menu pops up. This menu has at most two lines of text for the alt-text/tooltip/link destination. Even in landscape mode, this can be insufficient for the full text. How do I make it show more than just two lines?

    I appreciate that title-text can be made more accessible by developers (I imagine that applies to most visible-only-while-hovering menus too), but I'm looking for an option for clients. Like showing the title-text below the picture/link as a caption, or whatever Wikipedia's now doing for footnotes. Even a javascript command that I could make Scriptish run would help.
    By the way, I like m.xkcd's method. But is there really no about:config entry to configure the amount of title-text shown?

  • Image title tooltip (not alt text) doesn't work

    There are half a dozen or so existing help requests mentioning alt text or discussing problems with the Google Toolbar add-on, but this is not my issue, so I am opening a separate help ticket.
    If you are here about "alt" text, first read any of the posts explaining that "alt" text isn't supposed to appear, it's just a quirk of IE that it sometimes does, FF4 is correct and does what the standards ask and what other browsers do. You want "title" text. The best explanation seems to be:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/804893
    If you have the Google Toolbar installed, turn it off and see if you get them back. This is a known issue, eg:

    Neither was I. I *did* get them in safe mode, but I did a lot of resetting and mucking about without any luck. In the end, after doing a text diff between safe mode and not, of the Troubleshooting information (in the Help menu), I found that the issue might be Direct2D-related, and changed the flag "gfx.direct2d.disabled" to true in about:config. I now have tooltips back but a less efficient FF4.
    Hope that this helps someone, and hope that the Direct2D issue gets sorted out!

  • Alt text of image tooltip not showing for some cases

    Hello,
    I have followed the following steps in adding the alt text of images. Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Add alternate text and supplementary information to tags
    However, there is a weird case where the tooltip of the alt text is not shown on hover for a specific page (page 5 of the attached PDF)
    http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=63161349344665038065
    Please advise if there is something wrong with the PDF that is causing Reader to not show the alt text for the images in that certain page. (and if the PDF should be fixed or is Reader the one that has a problem).
    Thanks

  • Alt-text not carried consistently

    I have created alt-text for all my pictures in Adobe Bridge.  I placed them in InDesign, and do see the alt-text from within InDesign
    Object / Object Export Options / Alt-Text / source: from XMP: Description
    I do see the alt-text I entered in Bridge.
    When I export the file to accessible PDF, however, it says there is no alt-text.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Joyce

    I'm guessing that when you exported from InDesign, you may have forgotten to check Create Tagged PDF in the Export PDF dialog.
    I just tested with a small file I had that has metadata using InDesign CS6. I selected the Alt Text option in Object Export Options as you did:
    I turned on Created Tagged PDF when I exported (works with either PDF (Print) or PDF (Interactive). When I opened the PDF in Acrobat, if I paused over the image with the Hand tool, I could see a tooltip (indicating the Alt text).
    Or, you can choose the Edit Object tool (Content panel) and select the image. Then right-click on it and select Properties. You'll see it under the Tag tab:

  • A Few SEO Questions: Alt="" text and file/folder names.

    I've been reading about the Dark Art of SEO and frankly, a lot of it is more confusing than I anticipated.  Anyway, I'll summarise a bit here.I have read that:
    File/folder names are better with meaningful words and hyphenated words.  so DCM000123.jpg in a folder called galimg would be better as: /gallery-images/painting-title-here.jpg
    Alt="" text can add to the content of your pages.
    My thinking underneath this relates to a gallery site I built with around 200 individual paintings in it.  So the site has a lot of content but not a lot of text.  I wonder if I should start trawling through all of this to change the file names and folders and add alt="" text more meaningfully to help with SEO?
    So if my thinking is OK, here are the questions.
    How would you put the alt="" text on individual images?  I imagine that it should just be a straight-forward, what-you-see description?  But there are a few other options.  Suppose I have an image that the artist has titled, "Cattle on a Hill" and it's an oil on canvas.  I could make that into,
    alt="Oil on Canvas: Cattle on a Hill" or
    alt="Cattle on a Hill" or
    alt="A group of cows grazing in pasture under moonlight." or
    Suppose I have 20 images in a portrait gallery:
    alt="Portrait.  Oil on canvas: Joe Bloggs" or
    alt="Portrait.  Joe Bloggs" or
    alt="Man with grey hair wearing a blue shirt sitting on a bench" or
    alt="Portrait painting.  Oil on canvas. Joe Bloggs: Man with gray hair wearing a blue shirt sitting on a bench"
    The second part of the question also includes the problem that if I have 20 images in a single gallery page and I put "Portrait painting" in each alt="" text is that going to look like key word stuffing?
    Now on to the file name thing.  Should the file names be portrait-painting-01 and so on or should they be Cattle-on-hill or what?
    Final question: am I making too much of all this?
    Thanks
    Martin

    First of all, stay away from spaces in file names AT ALL COST.
    The examples you cited would look like:
    alt="Oil%20on%20Canvas:%20Cattle%20on%20a%20Hill" or
    alt="Cattle%20on%20a%20Hill" or
    alt="A%20group%20of%20cows%20grazing%20in%20pasture%20under%20moonlight."
    to an SE crawler.
    If you really want effective picutres, use Photoshop or Fireworks to embed metadata and THEN add them to your site.
    Alt tags means the text that would appear if the image didn't for some reason. It also helps with accessibility for visually impaired viewers who use plug-ins to allow their browser to "speak" the images to them when the page loads.
    <img src="img/example-1.jpg" width="128" height="160" alt="example-1.jpg" />
    Above is an example of how to add alt text. Dreamweaver actually loads the alt tag automatically unless you've turned it off somehow.
    Either put the info in the Alt box in the properties panel, or in code view, add it between the quotes.
    To the second part of your question, Alt tags are meant for SEO with the images only (Like when you search for images of a certain name or containing certain tags)
    and really have little effect on the page SEO itself. For that type of optimization you want Keywords, and Descriptors in the <head> portion of the
    individual page:
    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="Optimizer code would go here" />
    <meta name="Description" content="Page name, site name, business name, location, phone number, etc. goes here"/>
    <meta name="Keywords" content="Restaurant, Sports bar, Catering, Hotel, Gallery, Car Dealer, Exterminator or whatever describes the site and page as well as content of the pages"/>
    <meta name="author" content="your name here"/>
    <meta name="robots" content="index, follow"/> (This tells search engine crawlers to index this page and each one you add it to,  and follow them site wide)
    <meta name="revisit-after" content="7 days"/> (This tells the crawler when to revisit for updates after it has indexed the site)
    To your last question. No, you're not making too big a deal out of it, if you're talking about exposure for a business. If it's a personal gallery of your favorite vacation pictures? You just might be.

  • Alt text mouseover in hyperlink text?

    I use alt tag text in Dreamweaver CS4 to give a text synopsis of the content on the linked page. If possible, how do you make alt text in the mouse-over of a hyperlink, for PDF output?External hyperlink text does give the address as a mouse-over alt text, but how do you modify that alt text?
    If this is impossible in InDesign CS4, what would be the most efficient work-around solution? Comment boxes in Acrobat? Flash?

    There is no way that I know to define Alt text when creating a hyperlink. However, if a hyperlink points to a URL, when you pause your mouse over the hyperlink in Acrobat or Reader, a tooltip will show the URL the hyperlink points to.
    What you might investigate is using buttons. A little-used feature of creating buttons (which can be used to trigger actions of various kinds) is that you can specify what you could call "Alt text" which appears as tooltips when you mouse over them. When you define the button in the Button panel in CS4 or CS5, go to the flyout menu in the Button panel and select PDF Options. There is a Description field there which creates the text for a tooltip. So if the button is used to trigger a sound, for example, you could have the Description read "Double-click to Play". You'll see that text in the tooltip.

  • Alt Text visible time

    I am working in Dreamweaver 8.
    I have Alt Text that appears on mouse-over.
    The text that appears stays visible for about 5 seconds and
    then disappears (which I believe is standard).
    I need to know how to extend the time that the Alt text is
    visible.
    Can anyone help?

    In any case, using alt text is an accessibility feature, and
    you
    should always do it. If you want tooltips, use the title
    attribute.
    (If you /don't/ want tooltips, use title="".)
    Eric Meyer writes on the difference between alt and title:

  • Alt text and doctype XHTML

    Just a question to know if my thoughts are right...
    I have made my website and at the top DW has put:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    I have notices that the alt-text in my site are not working (the way I would like), they are not displayed when you go over the image with the cursor. I know that the alt text will show up if the image fails to load for any reason but I would like them to show up also when you go over the image.
    After a long search I found that if I change DOCTYPE to HTML 4.01, the alt-text are displayed in the browsers (IE). But unfortunately I can't change the DOCTYPE because of my SPRY-menu.
    Is this correct?
    And is it also correct that the only way to show the text of an image (with doctype XHTML), is to make a title-tag of the image (which DW doesn't facilitate)?
    Katinka.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
       I know that the alt text will show up if the image fails to load for any reason but I would like them to show up also when you go over the image.
    That's not the role of alt text. It's only for alternative text in the absence of an image-not a popup tooltip.
    It has worked as a tooltip in earlier versions of IE because they incorrectly displayed the alt attribute in the absence of the title attribute. It won't work in modern browsers and it's unrelated to the Doctype.
    Use the title attribute instead.
    <img alt="Picture" title="Picture">

  • Enabling alt-text pop ups

    While I generally use Firefox, one of the features I find useful in Internet Explorer 8 is that "alt text" appears as a small popup on mouse-over. I've searched Firefox and Firefox Help to see if there was a feature that could be enabled for this, but have not found any references at all to alt-text. Can Firefox show "alt text"? If not, is there an add-on? If not, please submit this as a suggested feature to add in future releases.

    title= was introduced later for images, and Firefox being the stickler for standards will show the title but not the alt="descriptive text"
    The alt= is what shows if the image does not appear (no found, for instance),, it was/became a requirement because it supposedly would help blind people read the pictures -- that was dropped (there are better methods) and so was the requirement that alt= be always used. The two are not the same thing.
    If you want to show Alt= in addition to titles there is an extension, it is messy and I believe one I tried placed a tooltip that couldn't be dismissed once you moused over it -- I'm sure it improved or others have done better. Anyone writing code now should certainly be using title.

  • Can thumbnails show tool tip/alt text in slideshow?

    I would like the thumbnails in the slideshow to show the tool tip text or alt text on hover/rollver. Possible?
    I have populated the image properties (tooltip and alt text) but they do not appear. It does work if you populate hero images but would be more useful in thumbnails as a selection method if you could see what you were selecting.

  • How do I get Alt text to show in DreamweaverCC

    Please excuse my ignorance. I would like to know how to get the Alt text to show when hovering over images. It use to happen naturally in Dreamweaver 3, but now in the latest CC version it doesn't seem to work. I use it to link images to pages so when some one hovers over an image the finger points but no text appears? Is there a setting I have missed as I can't type in the code as I'm a novice? Any advice would be appreciated. The pages are all htm.

    Hi Atrforrooms,
    Use Image Property Inspector dialog in Dreamweaver CC. There is title field, whose value will be displayed on hovering over the image.
    Below is the snapshot for better understanding and title is highlighted there. Try this and let us know if that worked for you.
    Wish you luck.

  • Adding alt text tags in InDesign (and Acrobat Pro)

    I am having real difficulty adding alternative text tags. I created an INDD doc with rollover buttons linked to URLs firstly in InDesign CS4. I couldn't add alt text tags in CS4 so I then tried to add them in Acrobat X Pro but failed. Acrobat keeps wanting to class the PDF as a form. I then installed InDesign CS6 from the cloud and added alt text to the rollover buttons via object export options. However, these do not show when I export to PDF.
    Can someone help me add alt text to my rollover buttons in my interactive PDF either in InDesign CS6 or in Acrobat Pro after I export it?

    In InDesign CS6, you just need to add descriptions to buttons. This is done in the buttons and forms panel:
