Alter user command failed

Hello,
I login to my audit vault database as "/as sysdba" and tried to unlock the user. I must have missed something because I thought SYS can do almost everything. Any ideas?
SQL> ALTER USER "AV" ACCOUNT UNLOCK;

Oracle Database Vault restricts access to the data in the Audit Vault Server from any user, including users who have administrative access. For Oracle Audit Vault, Oracle Database Vault protects the Audit Vault Server by using a realm. To ensure that the data in the Audit Vault Server is protected, do not disable Oracle Database Vault.
Please check if data vault is enabled:
SELECT * FROM V$OPTION WHERE PARAMETER = 'Oracle Database Vault';

Altering index command fails - because of ~ and ^ in index

I have this weird issue when wanting to use a alter index command . see below. I cannot get it to work. Please help.

I think in this case, it is not related to the Index name.
Try COMPRESS YES   .. instead of COMPRESSION YES.

NS Messaging Server 4.1 USER Command Failed on get mail

NS Messenger Express (http interface) works OK for send and receive E-mail messages. Also, sending mail from any mail client works OK.
But, when try to get mail from mail client such as NS 7.1 or Outlook Express 5.5 get log in error
On 7.1 mail client: The USER Command did not succeed. Mail Server some.domain.com responded: ERR.
On Outlook Express mail client:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your User Name was rejected. Account: 'p350.gec-2.com', Server: 'p350.gec-2.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91
No error message on POP3 server log.
Any suggestion ?

Issue ALTER USER command without DBA previlage ...

1 > don't want to give DBA previlage, or create DB link ..
2 > we know SYSTEM / PASSWORD, Hard code in PL/SQL programme
3 > Dynamically generate sql ('aleter user .. ')
4 > Issue command in procedure .
In short we want to give previlage to help desk to change application users password on request .. but without giving DBA previlages .. as programmer knows System user's password .. so he can hard code in procedure and issue stmt with username SYSTEM..

You can even give the users to change their own password as user can alter its own password without having dba privileges.or else if you want to give that right to help desk then connect to the user you want to change the password and change it. you need not hardcode system.

Explanation & Example
1. 사용자 정보를 저장할 event table을 생성한다.
Create event table and users to store the alterations made:
SQL> connect / as sysdba;
create table event_table

ora_dict_obj_name varchar2(30),

2. SYS user에서 AFTER ALTER Client Event Trigger 를 생성한다.
Note: This step creates a trigger and it is fired whenever the user "test1"
issues ALTER command (It can be ALTER USER or ALTER TABLE)

Copy command fails after installing Raid system and new user accounts

Any help is appreciated. We installed a Raid to an existing Xserve at our school. We have created new accounts on the server.All other commands such as observe, control, sending messages and so works OK.
When I try to copy files, pictures, and so on... it immediately fails. It gives me no explanation or anything.

We had this same exact problem at our school. Copying to network users always failed, everything else worked fine.
We changed the owner of the Sharepoint where the student accounts reside from our Administrator user to 'Root'
We changed this through Workgroup Manager -> Sharing, selected the Sharepoint in the left column, clicked on the Access tab and changed the owner to 'root' and click save.

Database Crash after "alter user"

Hi,
I've a problem with oracle 8i databases on windows 2000 server, clustered (active-passive).
When I try to change sys password as sysdba the instance crashes without error messages in alterlog and without dump files.
ie:
sqlplus /nolog
SQL>conn sys/pwd@db as sysdba
SQL>alter user sys identified by pwd2;
this command works and the password file is updated, but the database cluster resource changed its status to "failed"
Is there a relationship with password file and microsoft cluster service or oralce fail safe?
this don't happens neither in standalone server nor clustered 10g databases

Last night, when I updated before shutting down, I got a few errors, as in the subject. As it was very late, I thought I'd pick it up today.
Unfortunately, the pacman log only lists one of the ones that failed as libgpg-error. The other one that I remember erroring was gawk. There were a few others, maybe four or five, but I couln't reliably recall them all, so won't guess.
Here's a new attempt to reinstall gawk with --debug. I did the same with libgpg-error and the error occurred at the same place, with very similar output, so I think the issue is the same for all failures.

pacman thinks the upgrade/reinstall was successful in that the latest version is installed.
I did a search on the forums and the only other issue that I thought was connected might be microcode not up to date, but I had followed the update instructions some time back and as far as I can tell, the microcode is up to date.
I have two main questions:
1) How do I work out what's causing the error, from above?
2) Is there a way I can work out which packages gave the error, so I can make sure they're installed properly?

Problems with the imadmin purge user command

I am using iMS 5.2 hot fix 1.05, iDA1.2sp1 and iDS 5.1
When I try to use the imadmin purge user command I get the following errors:
[email protected]: purging user
[email protected]: purge user failed
Failed connection refused.
If I don't use the -g 0 option then it reports success, but the user account is still in LDAP...
I found a reference to the imadmin user purge command not working when you have iDA 1.2patch1 and iMS 5.1 patch 1 unless you make a change to your resource.properties file but i have tried the file both way and I get the same error with the purge user command.
I can use the imadmin delete user or imadmin modify user without any problem. I am just having trouble with the imadmin purge user command.
Any ideas?

This problem is documented in bug id 4671472. I have attempted the recommeded fix, but the problem persists. If anyone else has been having a similar problem and has any solution let me know. Thanks.

Configuration
I've completed the following steps based on a blog item.
1. created an archive user with the corresponding roles
2. updated the destination DASdefault with the created user -> destination ping = OK
3. created an archive store BPM_ARCH based on unix root folder
4. created home path synchornization with home path /<sisid>/bpm_proc/ and archive store BPM_ARCH
5. start process archiving from manage processes view.

Manage Process -> Select a process from the table -> Archive button -> Start archiving by using the default settings.

I don't have a specific answer sorry, however I do recall seeing a number of OSS notes around BPM archiving whilst searching for a different issue last year - have you checked on there for anything relevant to your currnet version and SP level? There were quite a few notes if memory serves me well!

In order to install Grid Infrastructure, we need to run Cluster Utility Verification (CUV) at first by running the cammand below:

After run the 4 commands above, I run the command below again:
[ora11g@rac1 grid]$ ./runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n rac1,rac2 -verbose
Its output is the same:
PRVF-4007 : User equivalence check failed for user “ora11g”
ERROR:
User equivalence unavailable on all the specified nodes
Verification cannot proceed
I think the problem is "Broken pipe" and ssh cannot write authorized_keys to the machines.
My question is:
Do any folk understand how to solve the issue CUV "check user equivalence failed" for 2 VMs ?

Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
I have installed Grid Infrastructure a few times. Each time, on step 7 of 9, the installer fixes and checks 2 machines correctly. The entire installation has 3 parts as below:
1) Install Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster
2) Execute Root Scripts for Install Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster (script is root.sh)
3) Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster that includes NCA, ASMCA, PICA and CVU.
Each time, on step 8 of 9, the Installer installs Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster successfully that includes "Prepare, Copy files, Link binaries, Setup files and Perform remote operations".
But when the Installer get to part 3 CVU, it fails and then the Database cannot be installed.
Deinstall Grid is a very complicated process to do. Because of this reason, we need to run CVU at first to make sure everything is correct for 2 machines before install Grid.
Even we ignore "user equivalence (ssh)", we don't know whether other items can be passed or not because CVU cannot proceed to check the machines.
My question is:
How to have the script "runcluvfy.sh" continue to check the machines while confronting "user equivalence failed" ?

ALTER DATABASE COMMAND ON OFFLINE SQL SERVER

My server is not ciming up as it doesnot have tempdb files on the drive correctly. I nned to use ALTER database command to rectify the files. How can I do this on offline sql server???

As Prashanth mentioned, use SQLCMD. Problem with SSMS is that the object explorer grabs the first and the only connection that is available in single user mode. However, if you still want to use SSMS (many are comfortable with GUI), right click the
SQL instance name and select "disconnect" and also close all other query windows and open File menu --> New --> "Query with Current Connection" menu item and this should now take the one and only available connection in single user

SADMIN User-Id failed logins while running srvrmgr

Hi All,
Need help with one of my Customers running srvrmgr command against gateway.
Customer had installed siebel environment 15 days back and it was working fine. Suddenly, from easter week end seeing sadmin id failing and locking out. Customer is running srvrmgr and see sadmin user-id failed logins with ONLY siebel gateway up, and siebel server down.
1.He is able to run odbcsql with sadmin id/pwd fine
2.With sadmin/pwd srvrmgr connects fine, all command line operations are fine. But see sadmin failing in nameserver log file.
3.I see 2 separate sadmin connections in name server log file which is weird, one with 'sadmin' works fine no failed logins and second with 'SADMIN' which fails. Below are log snapshots. Has anyone seen this issue before

Exactly.
Check for some scheduled batch processes or some repeating jobs which may use this SADMIN Id & Pwd.
Even I have the experienced this SADMIN account locking and I found that one of my repeating job using the SADMIN Id and its locking the ID frequently, even I unlocked the account.
Try cancelling the job and create new one.

How to audit alter user sql statements in Oracle 11g.

I want to audit all the alter user sql statements that show who is altered with what sql stment including the connections performed by sys and system.
Ex: If I use the command : alter user xxx quota 50 GB on users;
Then how can i grab this sql stement and who performed it with the timings.

Pl post OS and database versions.
