Altering the field type in an AWT/Swing App

Hi ,
I have developed a simple Swing/Jclient application for ADF. All the fields produced on the panel are of type JTextField. Is it possible to alter some of them to JTextArea for example....????
I have not noticed something relative to it in the property palette of each field.....!!!!
Can i do that...????
Note: I use JDev10.1.2
Thanks....
Sim

So... if the fields are generated by the wizard then there is no manner to change the field type...????
You can just drag a component from the data control palette and when you'll drop it on the panel it will give you various options of field types that you can drop it as.Yes... but how to relate it to a db column...(to bound to a db column of the selected table)????
I have noticed that the fields generated by the wizard do have the "Document" property as the name of the object view + the db column produced as a step of the wizard.....
For the item i have added as you have written the document property does not have this object view.name of db column as in the other columns....
The possible values are:
default
defaultStyledDocument
htmlDocument
plainDocument
Sorry , my question on this you have described....But , what about if i add another swing field type first and then i want to bound to a db column....???
By the way, why are you using 10.1.2 and not 10.1.3?Does the newer version deal with these 'problems' better...???
Thanks.. a lot for your constant help

  • Modify the Field Type of standard Table fields in a Query

    Hello. I have a question.
    Is there a way to "modify" the field type for standard table fields that are included in a Query?
    I made a simple query out of a join of tables, but several fields have a lot of decimals, and I would like to present them in the query without any decimals, just as a regular "N" field.
    I tried the possibility of creating extra local fields where all I do is transfer the value to the new "N" field, but I have many fields like this, so if there's a better way; I'd prefer that.
    Maybe somewhere in the InfoSet there's a way to modify the type of the standard table fields?
    Thank you.

  • How to read the field type from field id of DynamicFldTbl

    Hi,
    In my application, i am using DynamicFldTbl, whch parses FML32 field table definition file. My field table definition file contains information about field names and its types.
    I checked the API of DynamicFldTbl and didn't find any API to get the field type from field it.
    Any way to read the field type from field id?
    Thanks in advance
    Raguraman

    Hi Raguraman,
    Once you have the field table, you can then create an FML32 buffer (TypedFML32) using the constructor that takes a field table, and then use the Fldtype() method on the specific field ID you wish to get the type of. I know this is sort of tedious and we should provide Fldtype() and some others on the field table class directly.

  • HT5409 I asked if AVCHD files can be played on Mac and the support site says to simply click on the icon and quick time will play it. A big lie. Just say it won't support the file type and tell us what apps to get.

    I asked if AVCHD files can be played on Mac and the support site says to simply click on the icon and quick time will play it. A big lie. Just say it won't support the file type and tell us what apps to get. anybody?

    I also had issues opening AVCHD files on case-sensitive filesystems.
    You can try these steps to solve the issue:
    Right click on the AVCHD file and select 'Show Package Contents'
    Right click on the BDMV file and select 'Show Package Contents'
    Rename index.bdm to INDEX.BDM (it seems that all files in the BDMV folder should be in UPPERCASE for Quicktime to open the AVCHD file).
    Go back twice and try again to double-click on the AVCHD file (Quicktime should open a window showing the multiple clips, as expected).

    You may be confused by the error in Excel saying “another user”. Actually Excel cannot tell who (the real human) is editing the file. Based on my research the No.1 possibility of the error is KB2626998.
    2626998  Connection to a network document is lost in the 2007 Office system or in Office 2010 after the computer resumes from standby
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2626998
    For Excel 2010, follow these steps:
    a.  Click Start , click Run , type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK .
    b.  Locate and then select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options
    c.  On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click Dword Value .
    d.  Type NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then press Enter.
    e.  Right-click NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then click Modify .
    f.  In the Value data box, click Decimal , type a number value, and then click OK .
    Note This registry subkey sets the time, in seconds, that Excel waits for the network to resume. For example, if you type 15 for the number value, Excel waits 15 seconds for the network to resume. You might have to do some tests in your own environment to
    determine an appropriate value. You may have to try multiple numbers.
    g.  Locate and then select the following registry subkey.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\14.0\common\Internet
    h.  Repeat step 2C through step 2F again. Reuse the same value that you used previously.
    i.  Exit Registry Editor.
    Feel free to post back. Thanks.

  • Creating a view to cast the field type

    Hi All,
    I had a table test with 2 fields key and time. time is of type timestamp.
    i want to create a view on the table but cast the cast the time field from timestamp to datetime or date which can accomodiate the date and time.
    I dont need the milli seconds in the view but require the date, time(hours:minutes:sec)
    If anyone dis this earlies, please give some suggestions for me.
    Regards,
    KK

    When i cast it to date only date "MM/DD/YY" is shown but time is not shown.Where are you looking to see this? A DATE column always has a time component. In order to display a date, however, it needs to be converted to a string. If you do not do an explicit TO_CHAR with an explicit format mask, in SQL*Plus, the conversion of a date to a string is governed by the session's NLS_DATE_FORMAT parameter. Various GUIs also have options to set or change the implicit format mask.
    Most tools and databases default to only displaying the date component (the time component is always still there, it's just not displayed).
    SQL> select * from vw_ts_to_date;
    DT
    27-FEB-09
    SQL> select to_char( dt, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS' ) dt_string
      2    from vw_ts_to_date;
    DT_STRING
    27-FEB-2009 16:58:09
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1* alter session set nls_date_format = 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'
    SQL> /
    Session altered.
    SQL> select * from vw_ts_to_date;

  • Unable to locate the xml-definition for FieldName with FieldId '1f8a351c-965d-4927-9c22-8772b7089f55' when trying to activate feature with references a custom field type

    I´ve a solution which contains a custom field type (found somewhere on the net, the custom field type maps a choice field to managed metadata). There is a second solution which contains site column and site content type definitions using the custom field
    type definition from field type solution.
    On my developement environment, there is no problem with this two solutions. When field type solution is deployed, i can deploy the content type solution and activate the feature and everything is fine.
    However if i give the two solutions to our adminstrator to deploy them into our staging environment, content type feature activation fails. Deploying the field type solution makes no problems. The field type is then available and i can manually creates
    columns with this new field type. However activating the content type solution fails with the error shown in the title of this message. The FieldID from the message is not part of my content type project. Searching the net doens´t show any results for that
    id. So i think it´s not some of the standard field id´s from sharepoint.
    Can anyone help?

  • A new AWT/Swing?

    I have a question for the community.
    IMHO, and I am not alone, AWT/Swing have major flaws that really ought to be fixed. Probably, because the APIs themselves are seriously flawed, what is required is a replacement for Swing.
    How would one go about proposing such a thing and getting Sun's support?
    Specific issues:
    1) A set of specific design rules should be codified, which all conforming components, layout managers, UIs, etc., should obey. Along with the rules, there should be automated tests, so that it could be confirmed whether components, layout managers, UIs, etc., work correctly.
    Currently, Swing and 3rd party components often do not work well together, for reasons such as
    a) Highly irrational behavior of layout managers. Currently, none of the AWT/Swing layout managers behave in a reasonable way under all circumstances, with the possible exception of BorderLayout. Also, layout managers use constraints in inconsistent ways, and they are ill-suited to control by GUI builders.
    b) Failure to use minimumSize, preferredSize, and size consistently.
    c) Inconsistent use of UIs. What is the division of responsibility between the UI, layout managers, L&F, and the main class(es)?
    2) Software design rules. For example, there is currently at least one Swing class that alters its behavior depending on which container it is placed in. That violates basic principles of OO development. Perusing the AWT/Swing source code, you will find plenty of objectional coding practices. It seems that the pressure to maintain backwards compatibility has been a real impediment to "doing things right".
    3) Performance. AWT/Swing are notorious for various performance problems, including
    a) Non-linear CPU cost associated with building certain graphical data structures (combo-boxes, for one).
    b) Layout managers that call getMinimumSize or getPreferredSize on child components multiple times. Currently, the layout managers are the CPU bottleneck in many AWT/Swing GUIs.
    c) Some text components are almost unbelievably slow. Try scrolling a lot of text through a JTextArea and you will be disappointed.
    d) The current validation logic is extremely complex, inefficient, and undocumented. I count approximately 15 basic API methods that affect how and when components are repainted. I defy ANYONE to explain how it all works. The typical result is that repaints occur FAR more often than is necessary.
    A lot of optimization is required to fix these problems. That means automating tests, profiling, removing extra repaints, CPU bottlenecks, etc.
    4) Excessive complexity of the APIs. For example, it seems that building practical tables and trees is harder than it should be. The APIs are complex and documentation obscure or lacking in detail. Also, the separation between model and view is often tainted. It shouldn't be necessary to do so much conversion between model and view indices, for example. A basic set of model classes should be shared by all components that use underlying data models. These model classes should support standard functionality such as filtering, sorting, etc.
    5) No portable remote operation. Yes, I am familiar with SAWT (slow and buggy), and the possibility of using X11 remotely when the Java application is run on a *nix platform (slow over a high-latency network such as the Internet and unusable on Windows systems).  There does not seem to be a usable, universal solution.
    Yes, I am familiar with SWT. However, for a variety of reasons, I believe that the AWT approach is superior. SWT is more platform dependent and it has the X11 reverse-object-orientation in which child classes know about their parents. I have done some performance testing, which suggests that
    1) SWT layout managers are faster than their corresponding AWT/Swing managers
    2) Most other graphics, including 2D graphics, are faster in AWT/Swing than SWT.
    I am sure that SWT encapsulates some good ideas. However, it seems that if the efficiency of validation and layouts could be improved, then AWT/Swing performance would be excellent, while maintaining OO and platform-independent characteristics.
    Possibly, these issues could be worked out piecemeal. For example, a new, rational set of layout managers could be developed entirely independently.
    Other issues, such as defining how UIs, L&F, and component classes should be architected, are going to be more problematic. Creating order in the current chaos will be difficult.
    Any ideas?

    As for proposing such a thing, you can always become a member of the Java Community Process Program (it's free for individual members): http://www.jcp.org/en/home/index. As a member you can post a Java Specification Request with your suggestions. If you want to operate on a smaller scale you can report bugs to the bug database.
    As for getting Sun's support....well, good luck! :-)

  • How to change the data type of an item in administrator

    Hi,
    A summary folder was created. One of the item in the summary folder is a sum. That sum item was created in the business area (based on another item). I can't refresh that summary folder because it gives me an oracle error (Ora-12008 and Ora-01401 the value is too large for the column). The column that this item is based on is of data type Number(13). How can I fix this problem without changing the column's data type of the original table? I already tried altering the data type in the EUL table via TOAD.
    Thanks!

    You really don't need to sum the item before hand if you are going to create a summary!

  • How to determine the field size

    I am going to make a multiplatform application that hopefully
    will run on linux and windows 2000.If the os is 2000, then I will use
    vb.net/aspx else I'll use java servlets. I make the connection
    to the web server ( through HTTP) not directly to database server.
    So, the resultset will be stored in the String object. The columns
    will be separated by delimeter. Our problem is how to determine
    the size and type of the fields of mssql,oracle and postgres database
    so that we can include it in the String object.
    Ex.
    String sResultSet=new String();
    ResultSet rs=statement.executeQuery(sSQL);
    while(rs.next()){
    sResultset=sResultSet + rs.getString(field1) + "||" + rs.getString(field2) + "||";
    vertical bars acts as delimeter
    supposedly this is the code:
    sResultset=sResultSet + rs.getString(field1) +"_" + rs.getFieldType() + "_"+
    rs.getFieldSize() + "||" + rs.getString(field2) +"_" + rs.getFieldType() + "_"+
    rs.getFieldSize() + "||";
    supposedly this is the code if rs.getFieldType() and rs.getFieldSize() methods are existing
    Anyone can give me an idea how to get the field type and field size of the database?
    thanks in advance

    Yes, but I dont know how to do it.
    Can you give me an example of using it.
    Thanks in advance

  • Problem with a Dynpro field (type numc)

    hi everybody.
    I'm developping a ModulPool application in wich i have 2 RadioButtons with 2 textbox fields.
    What i pretend to do is, when the user clicks a radiobutton and strikes Intro, enable the corresponding textbox field and disable the other one.
    My code runs fine, but i have a little problem. When I loop the screen table, to set the appropiate value to the 'input' property, in this case, when i try to disable it (input = '0'), I get a zero character in that field. This field has NUMC type, i'm sure this is the problem
    'cos i've got no problem with the other field (type char). But i can't solve it.
    Anybody's got an idea?
    Thanks

    What you are seeing is the normal behavior of a numeric field represented by the SAPgui.  This is how all numeric fields are displayed via SAPgui.  If you don't want to see the 0,  then you just change the field type to CHAR and handle accordingly.
