Alternate determination of muliple BOM's

Hi,
We are maintaining multiple BOM's. We have also maintained muliple production versions. Selection setting in material master is kept as 2(by production version). No when we run MRP what is the criteria of selecting a specific production version considering all production versions meets requirements of lot size & validity.
Secondly is it a manual process or automatic process.
We are using REM.

Dear Mr.Mohit,
In REM - If you have more than 1 production version for your FERT with the fllowing conditions
(With same valid From & To Date)
(Same Lot Size,with different BOM & different routing)
then defaultly,the system considers the first production version and proposes the requirements as per the BOM which is attached in first production version.
<b>If you want to choose a particular production version ,assuming that u r not willing to change the lot size or valid from & to date,then u lock the production versions which you dont want to show to the system before running MRP except the one which u r willing to choose.</b>
We cant choose manually the prod.version during MRP.
<u>Assuming that in MRP4 view of FERT material u have given option 2 in BOM slection method.</u>
The other way is u manitain different lot size and acccordingly the production version will be selected by the system.
I hope now u must be clear regarding Production versions concept.

Hi,
In BOM , alternative items are assigned to alternative item group on the general data tab page.
In the production order in the general data tab page.
We can define the alternative item based on priority , strategy and usage probability.
Priority:
This defines the priority of the item within the alternative item group.
This determines the priority of planned withdrawls of items.
EX Two items are assigned to alternative item group
item A Priority 1
item B Priority 2
The system reads the item A first.
Strategy:
use the strategy to determine how the planned withdrawl is controlled
within the alternative item group.
The strategy should be same for all alternative items within a alternative
item group.
If the value 2( 100% check) is defined for the strategy the first material in
the defined priority sequence for which sufficient quantities are available
are reserved.
Usage Probability:
MRP Plans these alternative material components according to probability
of use.Material requirements for BOM Components are planned according
to usage probability.
The planned withdrawls for the production order are based on the reservation lists.These lists are based on the priority and strategy.

How to do backflush of alternate material in a bom?

Hi,
   My user wants to do choose alternate material at the time of backflushing according to material availability..
currently we are maintaining as following priority - 1
                                                           strategy - 2
                                                            probability - for first material (100)
                                                             rest of material as blank.
any body please guide me what should be the right procedure to achieve this.
Already iu have searched found a thread Can we define alternate material in a BOM try to apply our expert suggestion but it is not working.
Kindly anybody help me to solve the issue.

Hi Ramagiri,
I have gone through your document but my user wants he should select the component according to his requirement.
for that purpose i have opened the planned order in md12
select the first component make the usage probability to 0.
select the second component change the usage probability to 100
after that requirement has been transfer from first alternate component to second alternate component.
But after when i am trying to do the backflushing through MFBF second alternate component is not showing in overview screen it is still showing the first component.
can u please help me why it is happening & explain how to achieve this point as you mentioned

The system could not determine any material BOMs

Hello All,
I am testing the Preference Processing scenario.
I have a BOM available in Feeder system which gets exploded in Sales Order. The preference indicators and every BOM material is already transferred to GTS system
When I am transferring the Initially BOM then system gives the message that "System could not determine any material BOMs."
The main material already has been flagged for Configurable material.
If I use the transaction /SAPSLL/KMATWLR3_03 (Display worklist of Configurable Material), I am able to see the sales order but when I select the line item and press the push button to transfer the BOM to GTS system gives message that Error in BOM Explosion
Please help me to resolve the issue

we are having alternate bom concept. We had created two bom for one material M1. alternate no for first bom is 1 and for second bom is 2.
But now we want to use alternate no 2 for inhouse prod. so we want to make 2nd bom as first and first as second for material M1.
please help

Dear Dutt,
This is not possible in SAP.But you can set the status as 02 inactive for the first alternative and 01 active for the second one.
This will give the correct results while taking MRP run or else use production version ,assign the second alternative BOM in the
production version,keep the BOM selection method as - 2 or else 3.
This will help you.

Process Order -Batch determination for a BOM material(same batch)

Let us say, a material (ROH) has so many batches as A,B,C & D. Whenever we create a new process order, system has to pick only the particular batch( say -C here) in the process order BOM through batch determination. (during process order creation stage)
1.How to achieve the same ?
2. What are the ways are there to achieve the same ?
3.Is there any Exit for this?

( Because there are so many material without MM-classification view.....and client wants without extending the Classification view for MM master as it suggests same batch for all GI for delivery & GR for purchase.....)...We want only for process order batch determination.....
2. Is there any exit for this ?
3. Is it possible through any kind of Characteristic assignment in the Sort sequence? How?

Alternate Items in a BOM

I have a BOM for X which can make use of any component A or B or C in its BOM. The component A is always procured from China plant to the plant in India. I have set the usage probability of component A as 100 %.
But in my case I would require a situation where the system has check for component A in stock at china plant and if the stock for component A doesnu2019t exist then check for component B and then C so on from there it has generate an STO to the plant in China.
Please let me if itu2019s not clear.

Org Structure for China : CoA of China -Chiana company code -Chaina Plant -Storage lacation .
I hope if you look both them from Client level set up , they are totally differenet lgal entity .So neither you could check material availiblty cross clinent nor the STO (manual or MRP generated ) can be done to full fill the A/B/C requirement at India plant .
You may have to go to SAP APO -SNP /PPDS to fullfill this requirement where availabilty check and Transpotation Requirement can be eastablished .

While Create PO Iam not able to find alternate BOM which have mainained 1 2 3 BOMs.
System is showing only 1 Deafule BOM Could please let me know how fix this issue.

If several alternative BOMs exist, there is no possibility
of selecting the desired BOM interactively. Instead,
selection can be controlled via the following mechanisms:
- SELECTION BY QUANTITY:
A lot size interval for which the BOM is valid can be
entered in the BOM header.
A prerequisite is that the Selection method indicator is
not set in the material master record (MRP 4 view).
- SELECTION BY DATE:
Can be set in the IMG under Production -> Basic Data ->
Bill of Material -> Alternative Determination -> Define
Alternative Determination for Multiple BOMs (transaction
OS32). A prerequisite is that the Selection method
indicator the is set to 1 in the material master record
(MRP 4 view).
- SELECTION BY PRODUCTION VERSION:
Can be used if the same material has different BOMs with
different suppliers.
You create different production versions in the material
master record of the assembly (pushbutton in MRP 4 view)
and assign an alternative BOM to the versions on the
detail screen. You then enter the valid production
version in the info record in each case.
If NO selection mechanism has been defined and several
alternatives exist, the FIRST one found is pulled.

Alternate BOMS in MRP

In my business scenario, where by For one finished product, I have maintained three alternative BOMS and two Routings, so that for that material, based on the current working scenario, i have defined three production versions - alt bom 1 with routing of grp1 and other two prodn versions are for routing of grp 2 with alt bom 2 and alt bom 3 respectively.
do i have the option of selecting the particular prodn version while executing the MRP for that finished product, as when currently am executing for this, by default which i have defined in customising , alt bom 1 is chosen and pland orders are executed... but if want the second bom or third bom can i make the choice of doing that...

You can define the BOM explosion base on the production version, the field is in material master MRP4 view:
Selection method:
Method for Selecting Alternative Bills of Material
Indicator determining the selection of the alternative BOM when requirements are exploded in material requirements planning.
Use
With Selection by order quantity, the system chooses the alternative BOM into whose lot size range the order quantity falls. The lot size range and area of validity of the BOM apply.
With Selection by explosion date, the system chooses the alternative BOM into whose area of validity the date falls according to the setting BOM via dates.
With Selection by production version, the system chooses the alternative BOM defined in the valid production version. The lot size range and area of validity of the production version apply.
With Selection only by production version, the system chooses the alternative BOM defined in the valid production version. The lot size range and area of validity of the production version apply.
If no production version is found, no production orders or process orders can be created.
Here you can choose the production version to determine the alternative BOM explosion. But if there are several valid production versions with valid alternative BOM, then it should take the first production version as defaulted. You may also check if the customizing in OS32 could help with your problem.

Add alternate material to BOM

Hi All,
I have a requirement in which i have to add alternate material to the BOM, I am using the transaction MRTRS_START for transformation of General recipe to Master recipe.
I have implemented the BADI BOM_UPDATE and used the method CHANGE_BEFORE_UPDATE to add my code to add alternate material to the DELTA_STPOB table.
Problem is,it is reflecting in C202/C203 but change number is not updated for the same and operation number is also missing for the added material.
Then i came across a class CL_RMXM_ROM_MR_MAT_ASSIGN and several other similar classes. I am not able to figure out how to proceed?

Issuing alternate maaterial in sub contratcing process

Hi,
In Subcontracting process here we are following outbound delivery process.
After creating a subcontracting PO in me2o out bound delivery will be created.
In Vl02n PGI will be done.
While doing PGI if material as per existing BOM is not there then they are issuing alternate material .
How we can address in SAP.

What do you mean by alternate material issued in case material as per bom not available? Do you mean if BOM material doesn't have stock then you use alternate material. If so it is not possible to transfer material to subcontractor wrt to purchase order.
when will you come to know that material have no stocks? if it is before outbound delivery then change the component in purchase order.
you can use alternate bom for this purpose.
also If alternate material and bom material having same characteristics then you can transfer stock from material to material using 309 movement type.
See subcontracting and Production versions
When processing a purchase document item (type subcontracting), the system determines the material BOM in accordance with the vendor you want to order from. These BOM versions of a material are stored in the material master as production versions. Individual production versions are linked to suppliers either in the quota arrangement or in the purchasing info record.
You order material M1 as item 10 of a subcontracting order. Different BOM versions are defined for this material, depending on whether you order the material from vendor X in the US or vendor Y in Japan.
Subcontracting vendor X in the US has almost all components in stock, and these meet the required standard, so the BOM contains only 1 component.
However, if you order from subcontracting vendor Y in Japan, you must provide 4 components, because this vendoru2019s components do not meet the standard for material M1.

Planning with Alternate Materials

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me how we can plan for Alternate materials in SAP PP with ECC 6.0
My scenario is that we have a BOM for Material A which uses multiple components and if one component is not available than its alternate is used instead.
Material A: Base Qty 100 gms
Component A: Qty 10 gms
Alternate Component A: 7 gms
Component B: Qty 90 gms
Now what we want is that if Component A is not available Alternate Component A should be used in its place. We can manage this through Alternate Item Groups in BOM but this only works at execution level. Is there anyway how we can implement this scenario in such a way that MRP also generates requirements for Alternate Component A

In my understanding the system allows to maintain the priority,strategy and usage probability for the items grouped under
alternative item group.
Priority:This determines the priority for planned withdrawal of items.
Example:
Two items are assigned to an alternative item group (A1) with the following values for priority:
Item 0060 Value for priority: 02
Item 0065 Value for priority: 01
The system reads item 0065 first.
Usage probability:MRP plans these alternative material components according to probability of use.
In this field you enter a percentage to show the probability of using an object in production. Material requirements for the BOM
components are planned according to the usage probability.
The system does not consumes the items as per the stock availability automatically.

Dear experts,
During production order creation,system always to be select only latest created Bom.i.e If i have 4 alternate BOM for a particular material, always to be select 4th BOM.
Is there any setting , without production version method?

If your lot size are same for alternative BOM there is no other option other than prod version.
Try OS32 Define Alternative Determination for Multiple BOMs
In this step, you can define for multiple BOMs that the system is to use a particular alternative BOM as of a certain date.
Please note that the settings you make here are only effective for the automatic determination of alternatives if
1 you have defined your applications accordingly
2 you have chosen alternative determination by date in the material master
Requirements
The multiple BOMs for which you want to determine alternatives must exist in the system.

Giving BOM material as free good in Sales Order

Hi,
I have a business requirement.
I want to give a free good in Sales Oreder which is a BOM material.This should be possible by manually changing Item category for the line item in the Sales Order just like how we can change TAN to TANN in normal circumsatnces when we add free good material for any NON BOM material.
In standard functionality,the item category determined for this BOM material is TAQ but this item category field in Sales Order is non editable because of which I can not include the BOM material as free good in my sales order.
I have already defined one z Item category for free goods for this BOM material & want to use it in Sales Order.
Can you please suggest how this can be handled ?
Or is there any other work around by which will allow me to include BOM material as free good in my Sales Order ?

Thanks everyone for the feedback.I agree with Samir Danish.It is a standard functionality of SAP which does not allow free goods for BOM material.
However, can someone suggest work around to deal with this issue.I mean if any one has been doing any work around for this issue then please let me know.It s becoming critical for me.
