Alternate glyphs for automatic page numbers?

Hello,
Anyone happen to know how to use an alternate glyph for auto page numbering? The OT font I'm using has an alternate glyph for the number "1."
InDesign CS3 / MacPro
Thanks!
Jesse

If it is simply an alternate character inside the Glyphs panel, I don't think there is any way to automate that. InDesign can only automate it if it is set up as a stylistic set, or a ligature, or an ordinal, or a contextual alternate. Or a swash. Or something like that. In other words, if you can change it via the OpenType menu (in the Control panel), then you can change it with a style.

  • I need to start the page numbers over for a new section in a document (i.e. first six pages are roman numerals, next 70 need to be in arabic numerals), but for some reason, the automatic page numbering has started over at number 3 instead of 1. Help!!

    If anyone has any idea why it's doing this, or what I can do to fix it, please help!

    No idea why it's doing this.
    You should be able to fix it by using Insert > Page Number, rather than 'Automatic Page Numbering.'
    Set Page Numbers in your second section to "Start at:" 1

  • Automatic page numbering not working in book files

    Hi. Using CS3, I have successfully created a book in the past, where the dialog box of the book file shows consecutive page numbers for each file.
    e.g file 1 1-4 (indicating 4 pages, starting on page 1)
    file 2 5-22 (indicating 18 pages, starting on page 5) etc.
    Files automatically renumber if I insert pages, etc.
    This next book I am creating has two problems:
    1. the book file dialog box shows
    file a 1-4 (indicating 4 pages, starting on page 1)
    file b 1-6 (indicates 6 pages - STARTS ON PAGE 5 AS IS IS SUPPOSED TO, in some cases - see problem 2).
    I've followed the protocol below:
    For the first document, I select "start page numbering at" and enter "1". For the rest of the files, I select the automatic page numbering radio button.
    Why won't the dialog box reflect, for file b, pages being 5-11 as it is supposed to? This will get very confusing as the document gets larger.
    2. I created a document by resaving an initial file as a new file in order to create additional documents, keeping the same master but changing content. Even with the automatic page numbering radio button selected, some of these files start on the wrong page (e.g. 5 when the file is supposed to start on 12), after I select Update Page and Section numbers from the book dialog drop-down. I can't figure out what may forcing an override of this page numbering and am looking for a pointer in the right direction...thank you,
    Erin

    I am having the same exact problem as Erin. The page numbers don't even get updated correctly on the documents within the book.
    I'm using InDesign CS3 5.0.3 on Win XP.
    For the first document in the book, "Start Page Numbering at:" is set to "1." "Chapter Number:" is set to 1.
    For the second and third+ documents in the book, "Automatic Page Numbering" is selected, as is "Continue from Previous Document in the Book."
    In the Book panel, all documents show page "1-x". When I open the second and third+ documents, the page numbers all start at page 2.
    Any ideas? Please tell me this is a documented bug because it's driving me crazy.
    Thanks.

  • InDesign: Letter spacing messed up in automatic page numbering

    The numbers in my documents are smashed together when using automatic page numbering in InDesign.. They are fine when there is a single character (1-9 )but when there is two characters (10 or higher) the kerning is gone and the numbers overlap?
    Anyone know why and how to fix?

    I think I might have just figured it out...
    I was cutting and pasting text boxes from masters above... deleting the special charactor and insearting agin in a text box that I had inserted one before instead of creating a new one to insert new special character... ID does not like that I guess

  • HT1338 My Mac says updates were installed for Keynote, Pages & Numbers but when I check the versions they are still the old versions.

    My Mac says updates were installed for Keynote, Pages & Numbers, however, the version number shows to be the old version...   If check for updates, it's telling me no updates are available...

    The old versions are not removed when the new versions are installed. (The updates add features that improve cross-platform editing of files but remove many other features so the install leaves the old version in case the old features are important to you). If you look in your applications folder you should find both versions.

  • I purchased iWork apps for iPad (pages, numbers and keynote). How do I use MobileMe to upload docs from my PC to iPad?  Janet Frustrated

    I purchased iWork apps for iPad (pages, numbers and keynote).  How do I transfer files from my Laptop PC to the cloud for my iPad?  Thanks!  Frustrated Janet

    Greetings Janet,
    Read here: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/news/2010/09/iwork-for-ipad-apps-now-support-mobil eme-idisk.html
    Login to your iDisk on the windows machine and then click on the Home on the left.
    Upload whatever documents you want access to on your iPad to your iDisk.
    Once you have the desired files on your iDisk you go to the app on your iPad you wish to work with tap the sharing button (little arrow going down into a box) which will give you an "iDisk" option and you'll see the files there.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is there anyway to create a template that has automatic page numbering

    We have a template that we have to create, each page on the template has to have a page number.  We do a lot of edits and the pages change for example the page may start out as page 1 and after editing it is page 10.  Are there any codes I could use that would automatically number and renumber the pages.

    I don't think there is any property of templates that would give you that capability.  Sorry.  You can certainly suggest it to the dev team, though -

  • My InDesign document has two page 1s and I can't get the page numbers to work.  Help!

    My InDesign document has two page 1s and I can't get the page numbers to work.  Help!  How do I fix this?

    Do you mean the first section is starting at page one?
    And the second one now is starting at page two?
    So I would ask why you would need sections at all?
    Did you set the controls for Automatic Page Numbering?
    If you select the particular page where section two is starting in the Pages Panel, you could untick the Start Section option in the numbering and section dialog. That would remove the section. You cannot do that with the very first section, but you should set the first section to Automatic Page Numbering if you ever want to use your document with an inDesign book file.

  • I'm having a devil of a time changing page numbers even though I'm following the instructions for doing so.  Any tips?

    I imported an already paginated text from Word into Pages to format it for a book.  I don't wan the first few pages numbered, so I've been trying to begin page one at the beginning of chapter one.  I've followed the instructions for changing page numbers, i.e., click next to page you want to change; in dialogue box click "start new header /footer; a new section is created; click Setup, click Section; in page numbering section, select  "Start at" and enter a new starting number."  In trying to do this often I can't get the dialogue box, or when I do, I get a new section that commences with a blank page.  Or, the dialogue box that should allow me to change numbers never appears. Help!

    Is this for the Mac or iOS?
    You only have iOS 7.0.4 as atag.

  • Reset Page Numbers for each group with XMLP 4.5

    I am currently working on the invoice report rtf template using XMLP 4.5
    We cannot upgrade to new version at this stage.
    Our requirement is, i want to reset the page numbers for each invoice. I know that it can be achieved using @section. I think this will work only XMLP 5.0 and after. Is there any other way to achive this requirement?
    Our reports are moving to production in another 3 days.
    I would be thankful If anybody can provide me the solution for this problem?
    Thanks
    Babu

    Hi Tim
    Thank you very much for your suggestion. We have upgraded to latest version of XML and now i am using @section to reset the page numbers for each invoice. This is working fine. But i have stucked to print the invoice copes for which page numbers should be reset.
    As per the client requirement i need to generate the invoice report with 3 more copies where COPY word will be there for duplicate invoice copies.
    I have written the rtf template logic like below:
    ex: <?for-each@section:G_INVOICE?>
    Invoice Information
    Invoice first copy information with COPY word (just copy the above original invoice layout and pasted)
    Invoice second copy information
    Invoice third copy information
    <?end for-each?>
    This is working fine. But client is demanding that all the invoice copies page numbers should start with 1. I tried by giving the @section for each invoice copy. But it was not working. Is there anyway to reset the page numbers for each invoice copy (anyway orginal invoice page numbers are resetting becuase i have used @section). It would be great help for me by providing the solution for my problem.
    Thanks

  • Page numbers in page panel don't match current page numbers

    Hi all,
    I have been working with InDesign for a decade now and never had this problem.
    I created a document in InDesign CS 5.5, very simple and with consecutive pages, no sections etc.
    My page numbers show up correctly on my spreads. BUT, for some reason, the numbers that are shown in the page panel, underneath the page icons, are different. The first page is named "11", followed by 12-17, then the numbers jump to 111, 112 etc. I selected all pages and chose "Numbering and Section Options", setting them all to automatic page numbering, but to no avail.
    As I said, the actual page number on the page is unaffected. But this bugs me since I am afraid that the document is somehow messed up.
    I am using a simple InDesign document, no book file.
    Any idea why this would happen?
    Thank you so much!

    Thank you - I just found the solution to my problem (after playing around some more), and it turns out to be rather simple. In Numbering & Section Options, the Section Prefix was set to "1" - this field needs to be clear. That's why InDesign would add a 1 to every number.

  • Is there a way to create custom page numbering (ie 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, etc.)?

    I have a document that needs special treatment for its page numbering. This is a two page spread that I need to have the same page number on facing pages. The page numbering would look like 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4 and so on. I have looked through the forums and all the help documentation I can find, and the only thing remotely related is doing a print merge of two documents - but this doesn't solve my need to have the numbering scenario in the actual document. Is there a way to create a macro or script that I can add to the master pages that can calculate the correct page number? This is an Instructor's Guide that is well over 300 pages so I'm looking for some way to automate the process.

    Just if I understood your need correctly... Automatic Page Number shows the number of the page, where center of its text frame lies. The actual number may be on other page. Please see attached screenshots:
    and this is what you need:

  • InDesign CS4 page numbering not displaying correctly in Pages Panel

    Hello,
    I searched the forums for a solution to my problem before posting. I am sorry if I'm doubling someone's question but here I go:
    I noticed this problem I have about 6 month ago. When I create a simple document with automatic page numbering everything is fine. When I try and create a section (i.e. I want my numbering to start at 1 at page 3) it actually works however in the Pages Panel the pages are displayed with their basic numbers. You will agree this is rather confusing. I've tryed different files, same files on different computers and so on. The problem has to do with my installation of InDesign CS4 and I suppose it's some kind of a display option I accidentally turned on.
    Could someone please suggest a solution? Thank you!

  • Export page numbers found in a search? [edited by host]

    I used Acrobat Pro 9 to search for a term in a pdf, and found where it occurs by page number. How do I export those page numbers to a text file?

         Know what's even more inefficient ? Typing each page number in by hand because adding automatic page numbers boldfaces the text beyond recognition due to some jacked up software.
    Look at the other poor soul who is experiencing kind of the same problem with absolutely no replies. His thread is entitled , "Text Boldens".
    Oh wait ! there is a reply  Mine , WITH THE SAME QUESTION !
    So i figure it's equally as inefficient to post in the manner that poor guy did.
    Well at least I know someone actually read this thread. Thanks for your help.
    Maybe this is a good thing, because I am an insomniac and I get drowsy each evening typing each number by hand and then manually placing it WITHOUT guides/rulers, because guides/rulers are only allowed in Adobe profesional via a cruel & unusual marketing/punishment tactic !

  • Change Start page numbering to Auto Page numbering in the Numbering & Section Options using script

    1.  I have many documents to add into a book. After adding the documents, all file page numbers should be continued from the previous file. Now I am doing manually for all files at all time. Numbering & Section Options => Start Page Numbering at: to Automatic Page Numbering.
    2. And also I need to add the Chapter number with the page number (Ex: 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 … , 2/2, 2/3, 2/4 …., 3/2, 3/3, 3/4 ….). Here also I am doing manually like.  Numbering & Section Options => Page Numbering => Section Prefix: 1 and Include Prefix When Numbering Pages. (The page number should start from 2).
    Note: In Every chapter opening there will be a file name called S… (Ex: Ch 1: S3391.indd, Ch 2: S3392.indd, Ch 3: S3393.indd). So after every S(S3391, S3392 …) file the next file page number should starts from 1/2, 1/3. 2/2, 2/2 ….
    Ex:
    Chapter 1          Pages
    S3391.indd
    32457.indd       1/2  … 1/5
    32617.indd       1/6 ….. 1/9
    32217.indd       1/10 … 1/13
    Chapter 2
    S3392.indd
    42457.indd       2/2  … 2/3
    52617.indd       2/4 ….. 2/9
    33217.indd       2/10 … 2/13
    Could anyone give me an idea or script, please? At least for First one, could anyone suggest me ASAP.
    P.S: I have some more questions regarding this, I will post that after some time...
    Thanks in Advance,
    Thiru

    var openedDocs = app.documents;
    var chapterPrefix = prompt ("Enter the chapter prefix", "1/", "Prefix");
    for (var doc=0; doc<openedDocs.length; doc++){
        openedDocs[doc].sections[0].continueNumbering = true;
        openedDocs[doc].sections[0].sectionPrefix = chapterPrefix;
        openedDocs[doc].sections[0].includeSectionPrefix = true;
    alert("Done");
    Chapter 1, contains 10 files (Each file 6 pages)… (1/1, 1/2, … 1/60) – prefix 1
    Open all 10 files of one chapter and run it....
    and then for another 10 files....
