Alternate iPhone earbuds w/ microphone?

Please post any non-stock true earbuds w/ microphone to replace those which come w/ the iPhone. Lets hear the good, bad, and ugly of your experience.
The earbuds that came w/ the phone are more like earbudweiser cans. Theyre HUGE and after just a few min have my ears raw, chaffed, and heading to ICU. They also feel like they're always about to fall of...which occasionally they do. I realize we all have diff size ears, so zealouts plz feel free not to share how perfect they are for u.
I have a pair of griffin earbuds, TRUE earbuds which even have an ear wrap. I can wear these forever, the audio is amazing, but they lack a microphone. Dang!

...and the best sound I've ever found is with my Shure E4c. I've used all the Etymotics, several of the Shures, the Bose, Apple, Sony, VibeDuo, etc. ad. inf.
I've tried them all next to each other, and the Shures win hands down. But they're an in-canal earphone, so they block out a lot of street noise. This is excellent if you're on an airplane, or in the gym concentrating and don't want to hear the Today show or Bad Company (what's up with gym music, anyway?!). It's trickier if you're crossing streets in a busy city, because you lose a lot of aural information about what's happening behind and to the sides of you.
Some of the less expensive Shures aren't so hot. I reckon any of the higher end models are as good or better than the E4c, but I haven't tried the latest models.
Anyway, Shure is bringing out an adapter that lets any pair of their earphones have a mic and a controller. You can order it from the Apple store: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=6C0 4E0D7&nplm=TN544LL/A

  • IPhone earbud microphone/clicker: Beep sound when ending call is VERY faint

I sometimes use the iPhone earbuds to make calls. Ever since the release of iPhone software version 2.2, the beep sound that one hears when hanging up a call using the microphone/clicker is VERY faint. Now when I use the headset to make calls, I can barely even hear the beep when I end a call. I checked with another friend of mine who also uses his earbuds to make calls and he noticed the same thing.
Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know of a solution? I tried blowing out any lint that may have accumulated in the earphone jack, but this did nothing to improve the situation.

Yes! Mine does it too,I miss the louder beep,on top of it I have to use head phones because Bluetooth headsets don't work anymore since 2.2,I can hear others but they don't hear me.

  • Is the iPod Touch 2nd Gen compatible with current iPhone earbuds with mic?

I have a friend that wants to talk to me on Skype with an iPod touch 2nd gen, but the earbuds don't have a microphone to talk into.
Is the iPhone earbuds with mic compatible with the Touch Gen 2? Thanks.

I found an Apple brand iPhone stereo headset (with mic) on eBay, but when I try it with my iPod Touch 2G on apps like Skype or QuickVoice, I get a message saying that there is no microphone attached. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  • TS2634 My iphone headphones with microphone don't work.  Any suggestions?

My iphone headphones with microphone have stopped working, and they are under warranty.  I am having difficulty getting an answer about what to do from Apple - just got off the phone with them, and they emailed me an article that was of no help at all.  Any suggestions as to how I can resolve  this issue would be greatly appreciated.

All, I have this same problem and has just solved it on my iPhone.
I read up on the problem at att.com/esupport and arrived at the link below:
    https://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB413495#fbid=ahhj00ALH45
"If your email address is linked to your AT&T Access ID, changing your AT&T Access ID password automatically changes your email password to the same password.
If you use your email address as your AT&T Access ID, changing your email password automatically changes your AT&T Access ID password to the same password."
I have a ATT Uverse (for my internet access) acct and could not log on so I requested for password reset. They sent me temp password and I had to change my password to my Uverse acct. I use my att.net email as the log on for my Uverse acct. Per att instructions above, my Uverse acct is linked to my att.net email, so now my att.net email pw has been changed to the pw for my Uverse acct.
Accordingly, go into your iPhone Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, choose your Att.net mail acct and change your password.  In my case I changed it to the new pw I had set up for my Uverse acct and it works.
Before doing this, I had also added new servers as shown below. The way I see it because your iPhone will try in succession to log on to each server from top to bottom of the list, it's best to add all the mail servers.
    smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    smtp.mail.att.net
    outbound.att.net
Please note that I did not have to add "imap.mail.att.net" and my Att.net mail on my iPhone still works.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to use iphone as a microphone for the sound to come out in a bluetooth wireless speaker? what app?

well i want to do the impossible- i think. i want to know if i there is an app that will allow me to use my iphone as a microphone, for the iphone to be able to be connected to a wireless bluetooth speaker, and for the sound, to come out on the speaker. (the voice) without any cables. in order to do some fun stuff like karaoke or just talk.

    Hi redzknzz,
I see this has been up for over a year with no responses. Did you ever find a solution? I'm interested in something similar. The apps I've seen require the iPhone be connected to a powered speaker with a stereo cable. There are apps that allow you to connect to another iDevice via WiFi, which can then connect to the speaker. No output via Bluetooth yet.
    Have you found anything?

  • Is there an adapter that lets you use iPhone earbuds with an iMac?

I have big heavy uncomfortable headphones with a mic that I use for gaming on my iMac.
I'd rather use the earbuds from my iPhone.
Is there an adapter that lets you use iPhone earbuds with an iMac?

I got the splitter, (see link below), but the mic does not seem to work. Apparently, there's a difference between a mic port and a line-in port. Mic ports are powered by the computer, line-in ports are not. They expect a powered signal to come from the input device. The iMac has a line-in port.
I downloaded an app called Line-in that is supposed to give back the ability to use unpowered mics with Macs that lost the abiliy after a system update. It did not work for me. I guess my iMac never had the ability to use unpowered mics.
So I ordered the USB Stereo Audio Adapter below. It's basically a sound card that plugs into a USB port and will work with an unpowered mic. It has not arrived yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

  • IPhone earbuds failing

I'm on my second set of iPhone earbuds since January 2008. Thanks much to Apple for the free replacements! The right earbud looses volume gradually over a few days until it's almost inaudible. The left functions normally. I've plugged in a set of iPod earphones to test the iPhone when the iPhone earbuds are failing, and the sound is fine - the iPhone isn't the problem.
This failure rate is crazy. I'm not aware of anything I'm doing to cause the failure. The people at the Apple store confirmed that the earbuds weren't working properly, but they aren't aware of a chronic problem with them. I haven't seen any threads here on this. Has anyone else experienced this kind of iPhone earbud failure?

    Hi there,
Before you go into your third pair of iPod&iPhone earbuds, may I recommend you try some other brand? As much as I love almost all the apple products, there are two things which I couldn't care less about:
    - any Apple-mouse - I'd take a Logitech MX Revolution any day instead
    - above mentioned earbuds.... treat yourself to some Shure or cheaper alternatives, not only are they MUCH more comfortable, they shield outside noise better and let's not forget sound quality... youÄd be surprised how great an iPhone/iPod actually sounds, once you use headphones/earbuds that are worth the name.
Seriously, you are wasting comfort, quality and time dealing with the standard earbuds!
    Good luck!
    Jonas
PS: For those who say you need an adapter - try if you can't cut off 1.5-2mm of rubber around the headphone plug - worked like a charm for my Shure earbuds!

  • Looking for non-white iPhone earbuds

I like the default iPhone earbuds, but I'd prefer a color other than white, which is the only color Apple makes them. Are there any other good earbuds that have the following characteristics?
    Have all the iPhone-specific controls
Are earphones/earbuds, i.e. do not go inside the ear canal (since those are uncomfortable and always pop out of my ear)

a lot of this depends on your price range. Go by that and see what you can find.

  • IPhone 4 - Which microphone is used during video recording?

I was wondering if anyone knew which of the iPhone 4's microphones are used during video recording. I'm not completely sure but it seems like only the noise canceling microphone is used, whereas voice memos use the bottom microphone only.

Exactly correct. Why is was made this way, I have no clue.
I think both should be using the top mic rather then the bottom as that is were your hand usually is. I think it should be made an option.

  • Looking for iPhone earbuds that drop around your neck when not in use.

I know a few weeks ago I stumbled across an add or review for the perfect set of iPhone earphones for me (and my brother).
Basically I am looking for something just like the iPhone earbuds - in-line controls, earbuds not cannels or anything you stick in your ear, but with one additional feature; a "wrap" so when you are have to take them off to talk or listen they just hang on your neck. That would be so convenient. Would also like to get even better sound if possible.
    I would appreciate any suggestions!
    Bryan

Take your favourite earphones, and a piece of string.....

  • Can I use iphone earbuds with a mac pro tower? And with an extension cord?

I also need to use an extension cable because of my standing desk (tower is on the floor). I get confused with the 2-band jack, the 3-band jack, etc. I haven't been successful using a regular, radio shack type of headphone extension cord. Salesmen give me a blank stare when I try to explain that I have iphone earbuds with a 3-band jack and that it doesn't work with a regular extension cord. It's like I'm speaking Swahili.

You can't using 4-band iPhone earphone with Mac Pro.
You need to get 3-band earphone and extension cable.
I've been using iPod shuffle's earphone with extension cable osn it works well.

  • IPhone earbuds with iPad

This might be a stupid question but when I attempted to use my iPhone earbuds with the iPad they didn't work at all. Are there specific new earbuds or headphones reuqired for the iPad?
    Thank you.

    Answering my own question (sorta)...
Only issue is adjusting volume when audio-out is plugged into the jack on back of Apple's iPad dock. No volume control that I can figure out, either from rocker switch or from mini control panel on screen. Works fine if plugged into audio-out at top of iPad.
One guesses assumption that the dock audio-out would be feeding a full-scale speaker system with its own volume control. Guess. Ain't no big deal, but puzzling glitch.

  • IPhone earbuds case ideas

    Hi all,
Well went through an episode yesterday where I had accidentally placed my iphone earbuds in the freezer for a few hours. Now I'm looking for any case ideas that you all might have, what is everyone using to house their earbuds? Homemade, bought, anything? Please share ideas!

    Hi,
I have a set of iPod In-Ear Headphones that came with a case. http://www.apple.com/ipod/inearheadphones/
The mic and end call button work with the iPhone but the volume controls on the iPod In-Ear Headphones do not work with the original iPhone or iPhone 3G. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3310 provides more information.
You may be able to find a case that has a place for the headphones on the Apple online store.

  • Seen an adapter to plug the iphone earbuds into a standard mini jack?

There's adapters available everywhere to go the other way, but how about using the iPhone earbuds on airplanes, etc.?

My iPhone headphones worked great on the airplane. I also use them everyday with my laptop and have used them with my ipod with no problems. The extra ringlet (presumably the connection for the control features on the headphones) on the plug just isn't recognized on other devices at all....works great as the other two ringlets on the plug are for left and right audio. I did have to do some jiggling around on the airplane headphone jack to get stereo, just kind of plugging it in and rotating it, could have been a bad jack but it worked with some fiddling.
