Alternate resource

Hi gurus,
I have a question for you experts.  I have a resource WC_1 that has an alternate resource WC_2.  WC_1 and WC_2 have different capacities, therefore their machine rate or scheduling is different.  WC_1 is assigned to the master recipe, but when WC_2 is picked up as alternate, WC_1's rate/capacity is still being used.
How do you set this up?  Thanks!
Regards,
Kumar

Dear,
Assigning the WC to the primary work centers. By assigning thru this the secondary WC acts as alternate work center to primary work center
Hope clear to you.

  • Planning on alternate resource

    Hi Guys,
We have maintained main reource with non availability for 20 days.
But when system creates orders, it is placing on alternate resource considering this downtime on main resource.Means it is placing on the alternate resource  before the downtimes maintained on the main resource.
All the resources are with mode priority A and no procurement priority (infinte scheduling)
My doubt is why it is placing on alternate resource considering the down times of main resource. Why it is not placing on the main resource after or before the downtimes.
How system knows that resource capcity is reached while planning?
    Thanks,
    Prash

    Hii Prasanth,
The mode priority should be different for different modes , then only it comes alternate resources with lesser priority. Otherwise the order creates will be pick up random resource with having  samemode priority .
As in your case it is A mode priority for all the resources. Might be it  is taking alphabetically the first resource for all the orders you are creating manually . It uses  GUID ...
But if your requirement is always to create on main resource , make it Mode priority A for that resource . and other alternate resource make mode priority B . and use the strategy in PP strategy to pick up only Mode priority A,  with infinite scheduling... use current mode retain ....
Hope it'll give you proper result..

  • Order not going to alternate resource after optimization

    Hi all,
My requirement is order need to be scheduled on all alternate resource... and also it will adhere product sequence...
I have given cost as follows in optimization profile..
    Make span=100
    Setup cost=60
    Mode cost=25
Cost and time i have maintained in setup matrix.
In the cost tab of optimization profile i have given A=10,B=100 as variable and 100,200 in fixed column..
Product sequence is some how adhering..but order is not going to alternate resource....
    Thanks
    pardeepta

    Hi Pradeepta,
I Believe, that might be u r observation.
To achieve the required scenario which you have given, plz follow the below steps
    1. Plz check whether u have defined mode priority in PDS or not. If not plz define.
    2. After maintaining do new explosion of transaction data
    3. Plz maintain the weights in basic settings of optimization profile as "make span = 0", Total setup time = 50, Total mode cost = 70,
    4. In Cost tab maintain fixed mode cost as A = 10, B = 12, C = 14 etc (In multiples of 2)
When you try this example ensure that u have 1 and half day load & give scheduling horizon as 1 day while optimization for the resources A, B & C.
System will schedule on Primary resource A first then it willl schedule on alternate resource B. If resource B is also full then only it schedule on resource C.
Note: If you define make span, then system will thing that you want to produce ASAP and results will be accordingly. make span has no relation with mode priority.

  • ASCP Legacy Collections Dropping Routings with Alternate Resources

    SR# 6793428.993, (11.5.10.2)
How can we load routings with alternate resources from a legacy instance without
    dropping duplicate resources.
It appears that the last alternate routing is loaded - dropping all the other routings.
When uploading routings, through legacy collection, having alternate resources, 'duplicate' resources are dropped during ODS Load phase.
In staging data seems to be ok after Pre-Processing.
Standard collection with identical routing does not drop thee alternates.
    Requirement is:
Item has one operation with four (4) scheduled resources A,B,C,D. There is alternate resource E for resource A. So we should have either combination A,B,C,D or E,B,C,D.
There can be multiple alternate resources for A
    Customer has:
    MSCCLPPB.pls 115.151.11510.4
    The latest release is:
    MSCCLPPB.pls 115.151.11510.17
The code performing the legacy collection is identical.

    Partha,
Thanks for the response. What we want to achieve is to be able to run all these lines in parallel, which can certainly be done by using alternate resource. I've infact setup alternate resource for the below scenario but not able to get them running in parallel. Alternate resource will work only in case when primary resource doesn't have any capacity.
In this below case, ASCP was using 100% capacity for primary while for alternate resource it was suggesting to use anyone of them rather than equally divide the demand on them.
Let me know if you need more details but I couldn't find anyway to model this scenario in ASCP current configuration.
    Thanks

  • Alternate resources

    Hi all,
I have to create a PPM with alternate modes. I can do it in APO. But not sure how to make setups in R3 PP-PI. Main proble,I feel, I am not sure how to set up alternate resources in a Recipe.
    Thanks in advance
    Vard

    Hi Vard,
    Simple steps,
    Create a characteristics eg.color_char (Values : red)
Create a class with type 19 (Workcentre class type) eg. color_class, assign Color_char here.
Create 3 resources, classify them with class  color_class assign the value 'Red' for all 3 of them.
Create a recipe, classify the operation (double click on the classification indicator) with the class  color_class  enter the valus 'Red' here too...! create required phases..!
Now CIF this PPM , you will see all the 3 resources as alternatives in APO for the phases..!
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing mode priority of transfered alternate resources in pds

Is there a user exit or badi that can change the mode priority of the alternate resource that is CIFed from r3 to apo.
As it is all the resources have the same mode priority when it is CIFed.
    Thanks,
    CY

    Hi Ian,
The note you specified seems to indicate the use of alternate sequences in r3 routing to transfer alt resource.
In my case i was using the resource classification method to transfer the alt resource.
I also looked at the related notes but don't seem to find one related to using resource classification OR maybe i am wrong in that both the alt sequence and resource classification method is the same?
    Thanks for the info anyway.

  • Work order interface : how to schedule the resources

    Hello,
I am trying to reschedule a job and to replace the resources of this group by alternate resources : I have inserted one line in the WIP_JOB_SCHEDULE_INTERFACE and one line in the table and WIP_JOB_DTLS_INTERFACE.
After importing these group, I get the following result :
    - the job is correctly reschedule (the start date is the start date I entered in the interface, and the end date is computed forward from this date).
    - the operation start date and end date are correct (same as the job dates)
-the resources have been correctly changed (replaced by the replacement group)
But the resource schedule dates have not changed .
How can I have the resources reschedule using the interface ?
    Thanks in advance.

Are you loading start_date and completion_date into wip_job_dtls_interface?
Not the same as first_unit_start_date, last_unit_start_date, etc.

  • Resource Constraint

    hi,
We are working with resources in which many products can be scheduled based on sizes. Hence, we use size as a characteristic for resource and product. But while defining the characteristic value for resource it will be Resource A: Size:25-75mm, B: Size: 75-125mm.
If I get a product for 78 dia, System should automatically schedule in resource B.   Is it possible? In case of nay solution please help.
    Thanks in advance
    dhaiva

    Hi
You will need alternate resources setting on your PDS (or PPM) selectable by characteristic. To see how this is configured look at the building block S16 - Production Planning for the configuration, Section 2.1.7 Maintaining Alternate Resources:

  • Alternate routing in SCP

    Dear All
    Need help..
how to calculate alternate routing in capacity planning calculation if we use SCP?

HI, Can you pls further explain "alternate Routing" as I remember we can define alternate routing & alternate item, we can define alternate resource in routing that if primary is overloaded or not available then it will pick the Altrenate resource,

  • How to create Alternative resources with constraints?

    Dear Gurus,
i have an scenario where i have more than one resource giving same product as output having different capacities.
This resources capacity are utilised by  more than one product and each reource has it own priority to a particular product.
    example:
    i have 4 products viz, A,B,C,D
and resources viz, RA, RB,RC,RD. the capacity is in nos of items per day.
    lets say Resource capacities are
    RA=150 nos ( can produce A,B,D)-priority to A than to B than D
    RB=200 nos ( can produce A,D)-priority to D than A
RC=100 nos (can produce C, D)- priority is given to C, remaining cpacity can be used by product D)
    RD=200 nos (can produce B,C,D)-pririty to B than D than C
how can i crate this scenario in APO..
    regards
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
First of all you need to classify the resources RA, RB, RC and RD suitably so that when you CIF production versions (for the products) from ERP to APO, in the PPM appropriate alternate resources are created under modes.
Then in each PPM you need to assign the priority for the resource (other way round from what you mentioned as your business requirement).
So in the PPM for Product A the primary resource/mode would be RA but then alternate modes RB (suitable lower priority).
Likewise in PPM for product B the primary resource would be RB and RD is alternate mode with lower priority.
For Product C PPM - primary resource is RC with alternate resource RD having lower priority.
For Product D it becomes complex - primary resource is RD but then probaly RC >> RB >> RA would be the order for alternate mode priority.
    Hope this helps.

  • Resource Networks

    Dear All,
I have a general query regarding Resource networks ( Newly added functionality in SCM 7.0 ) if anyone has worked on it.
Is it possible to include alternate resources in resource network.
    For e.g. Say I have 2 machines M1, M2 feed to 3 distillers D1, D2 & D3.
M1 can feed to D1 or D2 depending on the availibility. However M2 can feed only to D3.
Can we have the first relation defined in a single resource network M1 ---> D1 OR D2.
    OR
I need to have 2 resource networks defined:-
    1. M1 --> D1
    2. M1 --> D2
Thanks in advance for your help
    Regards
    Ameet

Yes, you can use resource network for this requirement.
Use PPDS Optimizer with resource network - it will take care of it.
Let me know if you have specific issue.

  • Picking alternate nodes

    Hi friends,
I wish the PPDS to pick alternate modes in DS board or automatic run, using reschedule/SAP0001 function(hope this is the correct one). I made following settings
I have a ppm with alternate resources. Each resource has different capacity consumption(hope this is ok?)
    Resources are finite capacity
DS strategy is finite slot/forward, select any mode is active, lowest mode priority is set to O, while modes are A & B. In scheduling sequence no selection is made(don't know what to select)
Created multiple PP orders (infinite strategy/backward scheduling) at the end of planning period. This schedules orders on mode A resource. I wish the system pick the alternate mode when I reschedule/SAP0001 function. This is not happening with the above settings. Welcomes any suggestion.

    Hi Vardev,
    Few questions
What type of resource you are using single mixed / Multi mixed?
Can you just try in DS board reschedule function by selecting one order whether it works?
Find slot forwards will try to find slot in future from current order dates if at that time there is overload  on current resource and slot is free at alternative resource it will schedule order on alternative resource.
I will suggest check whether alternative mode has sufficient free slot from current start date of order as you have mentioned capacity consumption is different for alternative resources. If alternative resource requires more time that much free slot may not be available upto end of planning horizon from current order start date you can check this by manual drag drop to alternative resource.
Let me know this sorts out problem or not.

    Siddharth

  • Scheduling by employee skills

Summary: We are exploring options that will let us schedule planned orders by skills that the employees have.
We are on 12.0.6. We do not have MES nor PS. And we are aware that "Schedule by instance" capability is not available for labor resources.
    Detailed description:
On our factory floor, employees perform various activities such as soldering, assembling, testing and packing. Some employees can perform only one operation. Others have the skills to perform two or more operations. Say Mr. A can do Assembly, Mr. B can do Testing and Mr. C can do both.
We will like to ensure that ASCP calculates our labor capacity properly.
One option I am considering is
*) Define the skills (such as ASSEMBLY, TESTING, PACKING, SOLDERING etc.) in HR as competencies.
*) Assign the skills to the employees in HR.
*) Definer PERSON type resources such as ASSEMBLER, TESTER, PACKER, SOLDERER. For each such resource, enter the necessary skills competency needed to perform the operation.
*) For each such resource, assign the appropriate employees. Multi-skilled employees will get assigned to different resources. So in our example, Mr. C will get assigned to ASSEMBLER and TESTER resource.
*) Assign the resources to appropriate departments. Define the instances (i.e. employees) who can work in that department. Again, an employee may get assigned to more than one department.
*) Define routings with appropriate departments and resources.
However, I have some misgivings. The main concern is that ASCP may double count an employee's availability just because he is assigned to more than one resource/department. So in our case, ASCP may think that it has 2 assemblers and 2 testers.
We also need to ensure that ASCP will look at the skills of the employees. I know MES looks at it but I am afraid planning engine may not.
    Options considered and discarded
    1) Alternate resources
    2) Assigned units
Has anyone encountered such requirement? Any ideas on how to model this?
    TIA,
    Sandeep Gandhi

    RD,
I am still looking for a good way to model this. So I appreciate your help.
We do have two separate resources on the routing - one is Assembler and the other is Tester.
However, the problem is with the actual units of resources. If we define one each, we will under-represent the capacity. If we define two each, we over-represent the capacity. What we really need is to model a min of 1 and max of 2 Assemblers/Testers but a sum total of 3.
Oracle does let you capture skills at the employee level and it lets you define skills for each operation. Unfortunately, I can't figure out a way to make Oracle schedule by tying Employee skills and an operation's skill requirements.

  • Need to use production schedule in OPM without ASCP,APS and VCP.

    Hi Folks,
Pls suggest me the options to work on PS for OPM in R12 without using ASCP,APS and VCP.Client is not interested to go for ASCP.I just need to run the schedule and show him how the alternate resource works.Kindly throw me the options which will be best to take it forward.
    Regards,

    Hi Partha,
My client does not want the ASCP,APS and value chain planning. The option which you provide also cannot pull the data to EBS which is currently in ER as per Oracle.
Any other functionality which can be used which will help my client.
