Alternate to Apple Brand Power Supply?

So I've run through two power supplies (both broken where it connects with the computer) and I'd really rather not buy another apple brand supply. I understand the strange outside ring is only for the color on the charger so it's probably and any adapter of the same wattage with the same 1/8" plug should work, right?

I broke the original power supply cord also after a few drops on my floor. I took my soldering gun to it before I put some money down on a non-apple power adapter. They exist and are found on computer battery websites. I bought mine from a company in France.
It is a 'DLH energy'. The nice feature about the non-apple power adapter is that the 'head' (the part that connects to the computer) is easily taken off and switched with a replacement if the delicate metal band should take a beating.

  • Difference between an apple brand power cord and a knockoff power cord?

So I bought a RocketFish branded 30-pin to USB power cord for my iPod Classic because I had to throw out the other one for wear and tear. I went to the store earlier to pick up a new one. I usually shop at Best Buy for all electronics and accessories. However, I came across an Apple branded 30-pin to USB cord and a RocketFish branded 30-pin to USB cord and was confused as I usually am about certain products. I asked an employee what the difference is and she couldn't give me a straight answer. So my question is what is the difference between the two brands? i need one that will charge and SYNC?
I have used the Apple brand power cord before and have no complaints except the wear and tear is very easy to do if you aren't careful with it.

They are basically the same except one is made in a Chinese factory for Apple and is Apple-branded. The other is just a knock-off.

  • Looking for Apple TV power supply - any ideas?

    Hi folks,
My out of warranty Apple TV has an obvious power supply problem (it's totally dead, no power up whatsoever).
There are a few websites that have tutorials on replacing the power supply (or hard drive, etc...).
The problem is I can't find a place to purchase a replacement power supply.
    It's a Delta Electronics ADP-36BF, Apple part # 614-0395 (http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/HGslJDZeqPnKlFVD.huge)
Any ideas on where to find one?
If I can't get it myself to replace it, I'll probably just wait for the Boxee Box to replace it.
    Thanks.

I'm in the exact same boat -- I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. I've even called Delta Electronics about the part and they said they can only sell them to Apple. If you find anything out please let me know! Thanks.

  • Do I have to use Apple brand power adapter?

I seem to have misplaced the power cord/adapter for my MacBook. Do I have to buy an Apple brand cord, or does someone else make the same thing for half the price?
    Thanks.

There's no current substitute for the MagSafe connector. I've heard of some aftermarket adapters for use in cars, but apparently they get around the connector issue by using authentic salvaged connectors from used or damaged MagSafe adapters.

  • APPLE replaced power supply - reboots after screensaver

APPLE just recently replaced my new iMac's power supply because the iMac was rebooting literally every minute.
Twice since I got it back last week the computer has rebooted when I move the mouse to get out of the screen saver.
Has this happened to anyone else?
    D.

It could be a power manager preference issue, or the power manager itself. Do you have an external bootable hard drive you can test an erase and installed system from?

  • font color="2200cc" Apple USB Power Supply and Display Flicker /font

When charging my iPod touch using my Apple iPod Mains/USB charger the screen flickers gently throughout the charge. I've tried this on two entirely seperate power supplies (one in Wiltshire, one in Gloucestershire) and both are the same. I don't have immediate access to a different Mains/USB charger to try that though.
There is never any flickering when charging via my iMac and never noticed any issues charging our Nanos on the Apple Mains/USB charger.
Has anyone else noticed this or am I alone?
    cheers
    mrtotes

I'm living in the US and have the exact same issue. Regardless of the power source and cable (I charge through iMac G5, Macbook, and car charger with three different cables), the same problem is observed. flickering is evident when Safari is loading page when brightness is at the lowest with or without being connected via cable.
However, I sometimes can't replicate the problem when not on cable. I'm trying to find what's causing it but not clear at this point. I talked to Apple support but the guy on the phone couldn't figure out what's causing it and recommended me to go to see genius.
I hope this is a software issue rather than hardware.

  • My apple tv stopped working even if is connected to power supply...where is a problem?

My apple tv suddenly stopped working even if is connected to main power supply.

Take the device to Apple for evaluation and find out.

  • Apple Hardware Test & My Power Supply

I was wondering if the Apple Hardware Test does any check on the Power Supply.
I was planning on replacing mine on a Mac Pro (Early 2008). I have been having a constant freeze from wake issue, and the system refuses to power on from a cold start unless I let it rest unplugged for 24-48hrs.

Assuming it is/was getting good power and there aren't any problems with power itself, it sure sounds like SMC or logicboard or something.
Can't hurt to do an extended test.
The wake from sleep freeze type issue for 2008s early on was suppose to be fixed and resolved by an EFI firmware update last year (Apr/May time frame?).
    I'd take it in.
Sometimes swapping parts is all that can be done to see if a component is at fault.

  • Apple TV 160GB 1st Generation Failed Power Supply

    Hi,
Anyone know where I can buy a replacement Delta switching power supply model ADP-36BF (Output 5v 7.2A) for my failed one in my Apple TV 160GB Generation 1 ?
I wouldn't suppose Apple woud repair it for less than the cost of a new ATV Black :-(

it's a universal device, so will work anywhere.
the only thing you will need to change is the power cable/plug.

  • Anyone else waiting on a replacement Power Supply & Logic Board from Apple?

On Dec. 26, I took my iMac G5 to my local service provider to resolve some power issues under the Repair Extension Program. They ordered the part (new power supply and logic board) from Apple that very day, yet I'm still stuck here waiting 16 days later.
Anyone else out there waiting for this part to arrive? How long should it take? Can I call Apple directly in order to get a better estimate?
    Thanks!
    1.8 GHz iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

All right, so here's the latest plot changes in the ongoing saga of my iMac G5...
I spoke with two very kind and helpful women at Apple this afternoon. Both agreed that this sort of behavior from my AASP was certainly unacceptable. I was able to lodge a formal complaint against my AASP, as well.
My particular part order was given some sort of high priority status by Apple. I was asked to call back on Friday to receive an update on the order's status.
I was also asked to send a letter to Apple's Corporate Customer Care division explaining my situation in full. I'll try to send out this letter within the next few days.
So that's where we stand right now. No computer yet, but at least SOME progress is being made.

  • Can't seem to find a power supply on the apple site

    Hi there,
Could someone direct to where I can buy a power supply for a 23" Aluminum Cinema Display? Mine unfortunately has passed away and I can't find that part on the apple site. Have a meeting at the Genius bar today but a friendly salesperson told me they don't have them in stock. He also didn't know the warranty so I figured maybe the "Genius" would know. The polite and wonderful apple telephone service woman couldn't really help either.
Regardless, I'd like to know what they cost just in case I have to end up buying one. My dead one is 15 months old.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I find it very odd that you can't just order one. Regardless, the apple store is ordering one and should have it in a week or two. Fortunately I use two monitors so getting by should be simple. Also strange that they want the broken one back even though it's out of warranty and I'm paying (only $65) for a new one.
Considering what I now know about how difficult it is to get a power supply I'll probably never go to a 30" display because if the adapter broke on that, I could be out of business for days.
Search words to help others in my situation: Power Supply, Power Adapter, Dead Power Supply.
    Best,
    Ron

  • Apple TV 2rd Generation Power Supply broken

    System:
    Apple TV 2rd Generation
    Running IOS6
    No warranty
    Problem:
I updatet my AppleTV2 from IOS 5.1.1(5.0.2) to IOS6 via iTunes. After that my ATV wont boot. LED is only shine when I connect it via USB to my MacBookPro. When I put power to it, nothing happens. I think my power supply is broken.
Can I fix this problem? Is there a possibility to fix it again(replacing power supply). Where can I get this?
How much would it cost when I send it to Apple?
    Thanks a lot
    Best regards
    Christian

Have you tried restoring it to official shipping version via itunes?
The PSU is internal to the black AppleTVs - I would try a different figure 8 terminated power cable if you have one in case the fuse in teh plug has gone.
    PSU is not user replaceable.
