Alternating shades of blue on TWO laptops...

I have 3 Macs on an AirPort network -- a G5 iMac, an early '08 MacBook Pro and a G4 PowerBook. All have been running 10.5.6 problem-free since the update first came out. Yesterday, performed a restart on the G4 PB and it hung on a screen that alternated between a dark blue and light blue, with the wheel spinning every 6 seconds. Performed a restart on the MBP, same result. The iMac restarted without a problem and is working fine. The only thing I had been doing earlier with the 2 laptops was screen sharing off the G4 PB, but I had already quit it.
On both laptops, I was able to restart in Single User mode and perform fsck. Both were diagnosed to be okay, but with the statement Some Files Were Modified, so I performed fsck again and rebooted. Same shades of blue on both. Reset PRAM on both, same result. Reset PMU on both, same result. Could not boot into Safe Mode on either machine (same blue screen), so beginning with the G4 PB, I inserted the Install disk to attempt to verify permissions. Disk Utility stopped immediately with a message No Valid Packages. Decided to Install and Archive and was successful on that machine.
No such luck on the MBP. Verifying permissions returned the message "The underlying task reported failure on exit." Because I now had a good machine, I rebooted the MBP in Target Mode and deleted the LaunchServices files other posts had pointed me to. Same shades of blue. Decided to Install and Archive, but all I got from that was a message early in the install showing a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and "Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installer could not install some files in "/Volumes/harddrive." Contact the software manufacturer for assistance," along with an option to restart and try again.
I'd show you some log entries, except I can't get to my login screen, much less my desktop. As I stated earlier, both machines have been running 10.5.6 flawlessly for a while now, no new software or extensions installed and the only thing going on between them was Screen Sharing off the G4 machine. Thanks.

Today I got the same on trying to restart after an antivirus update. I still can't restart on my internal drive, but after starting up from the install disc have managed to restart from a cloned OS 10.5.5 on my external drive. When I try to restart from the internal drive I just get the alternating shades of blue screen and nothing else - no error message, no question mark, just the pulsating blue screen!!!!

having performed a search and visited a paticular web page produced by that search, the colour of the link changes and if found again in another search you know it has already been visited.

I had the same issue and resolved it
I first remove the prefs folder and the plist files for illustrator in ~/Libary
next I logged off,
then I uninstalled illustrator using the adobe uninstaller(http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html)
Next I reinstall illstrator
after that it worked for me.

Experiences with Lenovo and my purchases of two laptops (one was exchanged) and issues following with defective parts:
First.. Lenovo Return Policy:
I had ordered an E420, and by mistake in that I responded to an email advertisement while at work, and rushed through the online order (bad mistake).
When I received the E420, I didn't like the LCD or keyboard at all... and was really disappointed. While researching other customer experiences, I assumed Lenovo basically had an "all sales final" policy for Canadian Customers.
I called them the next business day after receiving the E420, and said I was disatisified with the it, and would like to exchange it for a T520. She said that is possible, but I'd have to order the T520 before I could get a return authorization (which was ok).
I ordered the T520, and within a week (I had to call and bug them once), I received the return labels for the E420, and returned it that day. It took about 10 days, for the full E420 credit to show up on my credit card, and I was very happy to see they did not charge me restocking.
Second, issues with the T520:
Within hours of opening the T520, I noticed the upper cursor key was not working. Not very good for a brand new laptop... a bit disappointing.
I called lenovo the next morning, and she apologized for the issue, and said she'd send me another keyboard asap... and the instructions. This was ok, since repairing PC's and laptops is a skill I have. The keyboard came the next day.... and I replaced it.. all good.
Next issue:
The bluetooth worked for about 3 days, and stopped working (which was a pain because I used a lenovo blue tooth mouse). Bios shows it enabled, but does not show up anymore when I do a FN F5, or in device manager. Just to be sure it wasn't an issue with software, I used the recovery DVDs to reinstall the OS... still no bluetooth.
Called Lenovo support, he had me pull battery, press the power button with no power sources connected (he said it drained any capacitors), reset bios to system defaults... reboot a few times... still no bluetooth.
He suggested I re-seat the bluetooth daughter card. While I felt comfortable with this, I was surprised Lenovo Support would suggest this, because I am sure many or most customers would not have this expertise to open a laptop without doing some sort of damage. That being said, Lenovo does have a Hardware Maintenance Guide that explains step by step procedures for replacement of parts on the T520.
I didn't do this while on the phone with him, but after going through the troubleshooting, he said a box would come to my door, and I'd have to ship my laptop away for a week or so to have it fixed.
I expressed my unhappyness with this idea as UPS/Lenovo just delivered the Laptop to my door and a week had not even passed, and I have to do without it for a week or ???.
I said, this is why purchasing a laptop online can be a huge drawback... had I purchased from "Best Buy" I could go exchange it over the counter in a few hours.
Anyways.. I asked if I could drop it off at an Authorized Lenovo Repair depot, and he said yes.. just bring the case number.
I personally don't trust "Repair Depots" by default. They scratch laptops, they leave screws out, they mark the plastic edges when separating the covers, bezels, etc because they use metal screwdrivers or are not careful when doing so.
After I got off the phone, I was able to re-seat the bluetooth card... still not resolved. I think I will call Lenovo back and ask the part to be sent to me, and I'll replace it.
Other comments:
Sound - The volume level on the T520 isn't as loud as my HP nx9420... unfortunate.. but I can live with it.
Performance: The Performance rating on my 5 year old HP nx9420 was 4.3, this new T520 was 4.6... not that much better and appears to be due to the video card rating.
Lenovo Packaging:
I was also very surprised that Lenovo ships the laptops by sending them in their own box, and not putting them in a large box with padding to protect them. That means that any rough handing by UPS, would be experienced by the laptop, which if you ever talk to people who work for UPS or other couriers admit that they work on volume/speed and not giving much priority to ensuring items are handled carefully.

The Windows experience index is only a rough guide, not a benchmark. Many people have reported having minor things wrong with the machines as shipped. Perhaps, this is due to shipping damage.
I find it interesting that you BT went out after a keyboard replacement. Mine did the same thing, and had to be replaced.
When asking for help, post your question in the forum. Remember to include your system type, model number and OS. Do not post your serial number.

Can I link my two laptops using IEEE 1394 (Firewire)?

I have a X31 and a X60 laptop. Both are running on Windows XP Pro and both have IEEE 1394 (firewire) ports.
I seem to read it somewhere that I can do a network link between two laptops via the firewire ports.
However, it does not work for me after linking them with a firewire cable.
Am I missing something?

You have to configure the IPs on the both side as with any other network adapters.
Alternatively you can set the internet sharing to the fireware adaper, on one side only so the pc with internet shared will acts as DHCP server and the other will atutomagically configure itself with a correct IP.

Did you hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for at least 10-15 seconds? Sometimes it can take a few attempts to get it to work.
But the blue screen that you are describing doesn't sound good. Were you doing anything out of the ordinary when the screen turned blue like did you bang the iPad or drop it....drop something on it?

One laptop is messed up and I cannot get on the internet with it, so I was able to deauthorize it from the itunes account. I thought that would bring the playlists over to the other computer, but it did not. Is there a way to do it?

Using app store on two laptops with one apple id

Hello, I have two laptops - MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. I use the app store on my MacBook Pro frequently. I have recently purchased a MacBook Air. I logged in to the app store, using my apple id, on my new MacBook Air to install apps. However, when I search for an app it says installed (which is actually installed in my MacBook Pro). Is there a way to get around this? And install apps on a new Mac using the same apple id. All my products are linked to one apple id. Do I need to create a new apple id to install apps on a new laptop.
Also, until recently I was residing in the United States. I have recently changed my address to India in my apple account. The app store is now linked to the Indian store.

I now have two laptops. I cannot get #2 to get my music

I have two laptops - #1 and #2. #2 isn't that old. I have been syncing to #1 which has worked out great. I am trying to get my iTunes music and apps to #2 so I can do all my syncing from it instead but I can't get the music over. I can only have one computer online at a time as I am teathering from my phone. I have tried everything and it is so frustrating. I can get the bought iTunes music over but the ones I copied over from my bought CDs won't copy. HELP!

Two iPhones, two laptops

I've two iPhones, work and personal, and two laptops, work and personal. I'd like to have "one version of the truth", i.e. one calendar, one list of contacts. If I add a contact/event on one phone or laptop, all four devices have the same infomation. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it?

This can be done if you have Outlook 2007 or later on your computers by syncing all 4 devices with the same iCloud account. On you two phones, go to Settings>iCloud.com and sign into the same account with the same ID and turn syncing for Contacts, Calendars, etc. to On (if prompted, choose Merge). Then on your computers download and install the iCloud control panel for Windows and sign into the same iCloud account and check iCloud syncing for Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks with Outlook ( and any other data you want to sync with iCloud) as described here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html.

The computer on a trip will do snapshot backups on the hard drive that will then be incorporated into the Time Machine backup once you get it back home. See

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed.
To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.

Syncing 2 calendars on two laptops with 2 iPhones

I have a rather complex iCal setup on two laptops and two iPhones. My partner and I both have a laptop and an iPhone. We keep separate calendars on our laptops and subscribe to each others calendars. Also he syncs his iPhone to his laptop through the cradle. However, I recently set my iPhone up to sync to Mobileme. So now, he has both calendars on his iPhone, but I only have my own calendar on iPhone. He also does not now use Mobileme. So is there a solution to this problem, or do I need to go back to syncing my iPhone through a cradle to get both calendars on it?

Maybe try using the mobileme account as a joint account at least as far as the ical goes, if you both login to the same mobileme account you can pull the same ical data to both phones and even to both laptops.

Take a look at buying a KVM switch. It's actually meant to control two computers with one set of keyboard monitor and mouse. However, this should allow you to connect your monitor to two computers. Look to buy one with a physical switch rather than a keyboard shortcut.

Actually i am trying to send 10 sine signals from server pc to client pc. So i will bundle 10 signals in server pc and send it and in client pc i am unbundling it and need to save in TDMS format.
Till unbundling i was able to do. TDMS format it is saving only last value. I need to save all the values. Kindly help me on same. I am attaching both the VI.

What computer operating systems are involved and are you installing from an installation disc or installation files from a download. That can impact the answer. But, the generalization is that Adobe allows you to have the same purchased activated serial number on no more than 2 of your computers. But, you are not supposed to run them at the same time.
