Alternative browser?

Is there any alternative browser to Safari I can download from the App Store please? I've looked for Google Chrome and Firefox but they are not there.
BAsically, I am having issue with a work site that uses Java to work and since updating to Mavericks and latest Safari it gets stuck at 15% when loading the Java applet.
I was going to try some other browser and see if it works.
Thank you.

Just go online and type google chrome.  You can download from their site.  Also go to Firefox and download.  I use all 3 with no issues.

  • Alternative browser to safari

does anyone have a view on alternative browsers to safari?  I am having trouble opening webpages, I have updated all the software as of today, reset safari and dont have any extensions.  I am new to MAC, I have a Mac Air with Windows for Mac and previously used Firefox or Google Chrome on my PC.  I dont want to stuff it up.  Gurus Help?
    thanks guys.

Rule of thumb is to have another browser installed in case you have problems with Safari.
Firefox works fine on Mac OS X > Download Firefox
As for Safari pages not opening, try this DNS server.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Alternative Browser for Safari?

On my laptop I have IE 5.2.3 which has been on the machine since I got it. I only use it when I run into those sites that don't work on Safari. On my imac IE was not provided so I downloaded Firefox 1.0.7 which again I only use on sites not compatible with Safari maybe 2 or 3 times a month at most.
I'm aware that there is a Firefox version 1.5 available and my question is whether I should bother downloading this or just stick with the original? Again I only need another browser for those occassional sites.
    Thanks for any advice,
    John

There are a lot of topics here that discuss which browser is the best one for OS X. My conclusion after using 90% of them and in reading other people's comments is that there is no clear winner. There are almost a dozen very good to excellent browsers for OS X and most of them have users who insist that the one they are using is the best.
There is one clear looser: IE/Mac. Microsoft abandoned development 3 years ago, they ended support at the end of last month, and they will end distribution at the end of this month. It is way behind the times in features.
This topic does not really have much discussion, but I provide a couple links to topics which do have fuller debate.
You can get a sense from the discussions of which browsers you might like to try. My suggestion is to try one for a while, then try another for a while. You can keep the ones you like and you can delete the others. Also, with OS X you can have multiple browsers open at the same time, so you can have two different browsers open so you can go to the same sites in each to compare them. I often have five or six browsers open at once when I am testing web sites.
The major browsers are Camino, Firefox, Opera, OmniWeb, iCab, and Mozilla. Note that Mozilla and its cousin Netscape are both Internet suites that include email, a web-page editor, IRC client, and News reader. Unless you need the full suite, you do not need these programs. Also, Firefox is not a native Cocoa app, so it does not take full advantage of OS X, but many people still use it as their default browser.
Finally, many people keep at least two browsers on hand for times when a web site will work in one and not the other.

  • N8 - Alternative Browser with Multitouch?

I used to have a Nokia N82, tried an X6 for a little while (camera was poor) but after losing the N82 I've been on an HTC Desire for six months or so, waiting for the N8 to come out.
Now the reviews scared me a bit about the N8, but have to say now I've got used to it, it's not THAT bad, and as I don't need all the features of a supersmartphone - just camera, internet, gps, music and phone and text is fine, the N8 might just do for me. I can already tell the camera is absolutely brilliant.
However there is one area that REALLY lets the N8 down compared to Android, iOS etc. The browser. It's slow, clunky, messes up pages, and the multitouch zooming is very poor - not scaling on the fly, and not resizing text columns to fit the screen make it close to useless.
Now there are plenty of other browsers out there for symbian BUT do ANY of them have multitouch support? I thought Opera Mobile 10 was supposed to do it, but it appears not to?

I think, the next bigger software update will contain a way better browser, and Opera Mobile 11 will finally get it. But this is my only my opinion

  • WHAT IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE BROWSER, SINCE FIREFOX CONSTANTLY FREEZES UP

I've tried restoring default values (numerous times), I have tried restoring computer to an earlier date, I have synchronized the browser with another laptop, and still, the browser starts up ok, and after a few uses of my desktop sites, the damn thing freezes up. What is a good alternate browser??

Have you tried performing a clean reinstall of Firefox?
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from [https://www.mozilla.org mozilla.org] (or choose the download for your operating system and language from [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ this page]) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click the close button [[Image:Close 29]]).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  • How to set IE compatibility view programmatically in Browser Helper Object?

Goal: In IE11, I need to set "IE=EmulateIE7" compatibility view for particular websites.
Adding an HTML meta header or a HTTP response header is not an option as we do not control the websites. Configuring IE (Tools > Compatibility View settings...) is not fine-grained enough as it truncates the website URL to the second and top level domains.
My approach is to achieve the same but more fine-grained with the help of a Browser Helper Object (BHO). Is this possible at all?
I created a C# Hello World BHO according to an online sample. It works in IE9. I haven't tested it in IE11 yet. Now I need to add some flesh to the bone. My idea is to register with the appropriate WebBrowser event, check the URL being retrieved, and then
set a WebBrowser property to turn on compatibility view if necessary.
    Is this feasible?
Which WebBrowser event would that be? DownloadBegin or DownloadEnd? Other?
    pure guess: WebBrowser.PutProperty("X-UA-Compatible", "IE=EmulateIE7")?
Any ideas to cut down my trial-and-error space? Thanks a lot!
PS: I (prematurely?) posted this question last night on stackoverflow.com.

The compatibility list is more about developer and user preference and Microsoft tends to not provide API to override preferences.
If the user accepts launching a separate window to render the content in some alternative browser (pretty much like viewing source in Notepad) you can modify the browser emulation registry value before launching your own webbrowser control based application.

  • The default browser is set to 5.0. I want it to open 4.0.

I just installed the Firefox 5.0 update. I currently have 3.6, 4.0 and 5.0 installed on my Mac Book Pro for development purposes. Many plug-ins I use for development don't work in 5.0 currently so I want to use 4.0 instead. How can I make my default browser 4.0?
Currently, 5.0 keeps automatically opening when I click on a link from an external source/RSS reader.

I am not a Mac user, but have multiple versions and profiles of Firefox. I note you ask about Macs, but have system details showing as Windows 7.
I can only speak from a PC perspective, but no doubt you can sort it out yourself. It is down to the OS which browser is the default, although firefox has the option to check and reset that at startup.
No doubt if I delved into the registry I could find how it sets the default browser, but in practical terms what I do is allow the OS to set itself up.
    # Choose any other alternative browser such as IE, make that the default, and allow that to take effect.
#Then deselect IE as default browser checking.
#Now start up the chosen version of Firefox, use Firefox's options to set that as default browser. (Options -> advanced -> general system defaults )
It works, although some applications may choose IE regardless.

  • I restored my most used sites page through troubleshooting but then downloaded stylish and the alt. browser came back when i open a new tab. Help?

I downloaded some dodgy software and having cleared it up it seems to have installed an alternative browser (delta?) and toolbar to my firefox. I've uninstalled the toolbar, but when i open a new tab, instead of my most used pages, it came up with the delta browser. So I followed the instructions on here and troubleshooted and restored the default settings of firefox. This worked until I re-installed the add on Stylish to customise webpages, and now it seems to have come back. Having uninstalled stylish it hasn't changed. Can i not use stylish now, or is there a way of my completely getting rid of this delta, enabling me to use the add on as before?

Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.
    # Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800
    # Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700
You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32).
    *(32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    *(64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
You can find the installation path of all plugins on the <b>about:plugins</b> page.<br />
There is no need to toggle the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true in Firefox 22 and later, so leave this pref set to false.

  • Redirecting based on web browser.

    Hey all,
Hopefully somebody will have a soultion to my issue. Folloing my welcome page on my site I link directly to a page which promotes firefox as an alternative browser (instead of Explorer) to view the site. This looks really tacky and sends viewers away. However, when I didn't have the "Get Firefox" page, I would get people who would say that my site wouldn't load correctly.
This brings me to my question. Does anybody out there know how to redirect specific browsers and preferably their versions to alternative pages? I know that this practice is generally frowned upon in the web design community. But alas, if possible I believe it would greatly benifit my site.
I did find a website that described it at: http://www.quirksmode.org/js/detect.html . But I'm not Java Script literate, so I was unable to descipher enough information. Thanks in advance for reading this post, and for —hopefully—providing me with a soultion.
    Kind Regards,

    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You can either use JavaScript (JS) or PHP to achieve your ends. So you need to do some kind of scripting.
This is from the web site you posted:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    document.write('<p class="accent">You\'re using ' + BrowserDetect.browser + ' ' + BrowserDetect.version + ' on ' + BrowserDetect.OS + '!</p>');
    // -->
    </script>
If you can understand that, then there is a chance you can program this yourself, and I'd be happy to help out.
While the community does frown on showing different browsers different content, there are some cases, where design requires that slightly different HTML/JS/CSS be sent in order to achieve the same effect on the user's browser.
One should not redirect to completely different content.
You should also investigate the possibility of fixing the HTML so that it loads correctly. If it isn't your site, then you can first link to a page of your own that explains the problem and then sends folks on.
(Btw. You wouldn't have this kind of problem if you used iWeb to publish your pages )

  • 7230,Skype and alternative browsers

Am i right that this phone is not compatible with Skype?
That is the asnwer got from skype.com.
I installed already Opera Mini browser in order to see veoh.com videos. However, the videos can't be watched because of the wrong Nokia flash  Player.
Is that problem solved somehow by updating or changing the original Nokia browser or using an alternative browser?
Opera mini browser comes with links to their sources of applications. There is one Get Jar free application link. There the 7230 is not recognized  at all.  Among the application I found one web browser. Nexion or similar? May this be ok for the phone? The Get Jar is down at the moment thus i'm not able to confirm the  browser name .

  • A safe alternative to use adobe flash player on iPad

I have found that there are some alternative browser options/apps out there that will allow you to function on iOS with sites that use adobe flash. Im wondering if this is a good idea, since I need to use it with a particular budgeting/bill pay site that is linked to my banking accounts? I use this site every day to pay bills, budget and track spending, but it will not work on ipad or iphone due to requiring flash. This is one of the few things that makes me consider replacing my old laptop with another PC vs going to a second ipad in our home. I have to have access to this site when I am away from my mac or other PC. Just wondering if it is a safe and secure idea to use one of the alternate browsers like Puffin, or another work around app since Im dealing with financial information?

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
Apps that can display some Flash from the Web:
      1. Puffin
      2. SkyFire
      3. Photon Flash
      4. Browse2Go
      5. Swifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

  • Is there an alternative to flash player

Use an alternative browser from the App Store such as Skyfire, Photon, Puffin, etc.

    Hi,
That just means that the BoA website doesn't recognize the identifier Safari sends to it when it makes a webpage request. Are you still on Mac OS 10.4.8 as indicated by your profile, or are you using a newer version of OS X? Has this site ever worked with Safari to your knowledge?
Either way, I would forward the error to BoAs website feedback address and use an alternative browser in the meantime, such as:
    Camino
    Firefox
    Opera
    Good luck.

When I am at home I access my btinternet email account using Microsoft Outlook, but when I am away I often have to use the BT Yahoo web access which I find dreadful.
