Alternative for Guided Navigation

Hi Al,
I have a scenario!!
If the number of record count is greater den 30 then a report without legends is displayed and if less then 30,report with legends is displayed.. This I hv implemented.. but its taking 2 clicks to generate the report.. So customer is asking for an alternative.. where in it consumes less time.. pleas suggest something

Hi,
I guess you should use Guided Navigation on a section in your dashboard page. The user doesn't have to click anything.
Create two section on your dashboard. Use Guided Navigation to show either the one or the other.
Good Luck,

After Migrating from 10g to 11g Geeting problems with Guided navigations and section navigations not working.
And we are getting the following error <<odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW)>> where we have used navigations.
In 10G we have Guided navigation Reports to display the Reports links and intermediate reports for conditionally displaying the Dashboard section(Reports) but after migrating to 11g Guided navigation reports and conditional reports are not working..
We know that in 11g section navigation replaced with conditions and Guided navigation replaced with action link.. but
do we need to recreate those reports in actions and condition or is there any work around avoid reworking.

    Hi Both,
    Thanks for the reply ...
For Guided navigation we are getting like below error:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
For Conditional dashboard section we are getting like below error:

  • OBIEE Guided Navigation Link - How to open in New page.

    Hi,
I am using Guided navigation links in OBIEE dashboards to link some of my reports.
When i click on the Link it opens the report on the same page. Instead i have to open the report in a new page. This Option is available in 'Link OR Image' section, not in 'Guided Nav. Link' section. Please suggest me if there is any way to achieve this.
    Thanks
    Swami

    Hi
We have the same need: from within a report we have guided navigation to a detail report, that uses the values of the record in the master report as filterparameters. When clicking a row in the master report , we should open the detail report in a new window, while leaving the master report in the dashboard open. How can we achieve this?
Swami just mentioned the Link or Image object to indicate that this possibility of choosing the same or a new window is present there, and asked where to find the same choosing option for guided navigation.

  • How to avoid report running for all the values in roll up of guided naviga

    Hi
    Thanks in Advance
I have 3 reports on three different pages of a dashboard. (Implemented guided navigation on one column of each report). When I click on value of guided navigation column it guides me to report 2 for that particular value (is prompted), same way for 3 report also till here it works fine.
However when I return from report 3 to report 2 and 2 to 1, the reports are running for all the values instead for the value which was passed by guided navigation of previous report earlier (Value on which I clicked to pass to the next report).
    Edited by: 808623 on Nov 9, 2010 2:10 AM

    Yes
Example : If i click on values 'X' in report 1
Report 2 shows results for 'X' only. And if i click on Value say 'Y' in 2 then report 3 shows for only 'Y'. But when i rollup from 3 to 2, Report 2 is showing for all values rather than showing 'x'.
I'm using Link or Image Dashboard Object > Destination>Request or Dashboard (path of previous report)

  • Using Same Request with prompted filters in Guided Navigation

    Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement wherein i have to show a report only when it returns results.
For this i put the request in a section and applied a guided navigation using the same Request as source Request.
Can i use the same request in the guided navigation as source request?
In the Request there are filters which are Prompted
My question --> in the Source Request in Guided Navigation , do i have to make the filters as prompted or do i have to make them equal to Presentation variables, which are populated from dashboard prompts.
Also i have one of the prompt as multiselect prompt...
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Ashish,
Yes, you can use the same request here.
For request, you can use 'IsPrompted' if same column is used in Prompt else use presentation variable here which is populated from the dashboard prompt. Just based on the selected 'specific' value the report shud show results.

  • Facing issue in PDF print on using Guided Navigation Link on dashboard

    Hi,
I am facing one issue on using Guided Navigation Link on dashboard.
I have created one Guided Nav. Link on dashboard and renamed it as "RAW DATA".
It was working fine.It is coming as RAW DATA link and when I am clicking on the link it is drilling down.
Till now it is working fine and good.
But in Printer friendly option of dashboard when I am selecting PDF option( To save it as PDF) it was showing text "Guided Nav Link 1" instead of "RAW DATA" in the downloaded pdf.
    Please give me some solution.
    Thanks in Advance
    Santanu Manna

    Try this:
    1) Drag Guid. Nav. Link to dashboard in a new section.
    2) Click on properties of the Guid. Nav. Link object.
    3) For the source request, click on browse and navigate to the report.
    4) In the Link Properties, check the "Use Dashboard Oject name as link object" checkbox and click "OK."
    5) Click on the Rename button of the Guid. Nav. Link object.
    6) Type in the name you wish to appear in the link and click "OK."
When you click on Print>PDF, the name of the link will appear in the pdf instead of "Guid. Nav Link 1."

  • OBIEE 11g Guided Navigation Link

    Hi All,
In 10g I used the guided nav link to link main menu page with hidden dashboard page, so that also presentation variable is passed to the report published on the hidden page.
I'm not able to find this on 11g, if I use a link to the hidden page the presentation variable is not pass to the report even if this presentation variable is created on a dashboard prompt.
    Any Idea?
    Regards,
    Daniele

    Hi Balaa ,
That doesn't what Daniele try to achieve . We are clearly missing the Guided navigation for passing the value assigned under presentation variable of the prompt.
It is not to address how to set the prompt in different scope .

  • Passing Presentation Variables to Guided Navigation

I'm having trouble passing Presentation Variables (and Session Variables) to analyses called via a Guided Navigation link in 11.1.1.5.
    1. Created a dashboard prompt to select from a list of months. The prompt populates a Presentation Variable called pMo.
    2. Created an analysis that displays two columns: Month and '{pMo}'
    3. That analysis has this filter: Month is equal to / is in {pMo}
    4. Put the dashboard prompt and the analysis onto a dashboard page.
    5. Put an Action Link onto the dashboard page, calling that same analysis in a new window.
    6. View the dashboard page
    7. Initial analysis displays an error, which is expected since pMo has no value.
    8. Select a month, which populates pMo. Analysis displays properly. Month and pMo both show correctly.
    9. Click the Action Link.
    10. The new window shows the correct value of Month, but NOTHING in the pMo column.
This is not logical. If the correct value of Month is shown in the new window, that means that Month MUST have been filtered using pMo. But the pMo column shows blank.
I see the exact same behavior with Session Variables. The value of the variable is correctly used to filter the analysis, but that variable's value doesn't show up in the analysis column.
In fact, if I assign a default value for the variable, the Month column shows the "correct" (i.e. selected) value, but the column containing the formula for the variable shows the variable's default value, not the value that was obviously used by the filter.
The problem only occurs in the new window that appears with the Guided Navigation link. The original dashbord page shows correctly.
Here's the error when using a Session variable. Similar error when using Presentation variable.

So, if NQ_SESSION.Mo has no value, how did the Filter know that Mar-2005 should be used? NQ_SESSION.Mo DOES have a value. Why won't the column display it?
By the way, in case you're wondering 'what's the big deal', it's this: I want to be able to type a Commission Percent into a text box, store it in a variable, and then use that variable in a calculation within a Guided Nav link. That's what I was originally testing. The description above is what I finally figured out is happening. The variable has a value that can be used as a filter condition, but that value is ignored when used in the columns of that filtered analysis.

Edited by: Mark T. on Jan 7, 2012 7:15 AMI don't have 11g so what I say may not apply to you at all. That being said, it appears that what you are describing is similar to how the Link or Image and Guided Nav. objects work in 10g. Bear with me for a sescond while I explain. In the Link or Image object, you can open a destination report in a new window, but PVs don't pass through. In the Guid. Nav. object, PVs pass through to the destination, but you don't have the option to open the report in a new window. The filtering works, which is why your destination report is properly filtered; it's just that the PV is not passed and therefor the pMo column is blank.
Since you said your destination report opens in a new window, it is acting like the Link or Image object in 10g. So try doing this:
    1) Ensure that your dashboard prompt is set to "dashboard" scope. This being that the PVs with the same name will be set for all dashboard pages, once set in the parent page.
    2) Create a new dashboard page and include the same prompt as in the parent page, and your destination report. Hide the prompt on this page.
    3) Now in your Action Link of the parent report, instead of pointing to the report itself, point it to the dashboard page created in step 2).
My theory is this: With the dashboard prompt set to dashboard scope, the PV of the prompt in the destination page will be set as soon as you hit the "Go" button. This will allow the report in the destination page to be set by the same variable, even though the value is not passed on directly through the Action Link.

  • Problem with guided navigation - Reports not showing up

    Hi All,
We have a dashboard page that has a number of sections based on guided navigation. The problem is that the reports in the sections do not show up even when there are results for the guiding reports unless the page is refreshed. However, the section borders are showing up. Is there any solution for this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Radhika

    Hi Radhika,
As I mentioned earlier i have created 2 reports, but your case is some thing different and you are using the same report for condition also and in the section also.
What we have done is , suppose we want a report in a section to be displayed when my *# Service requests* >20 then
We have created a report with *# Service Requests* with filter condition greater than 20. which we will to define the condition.
and another separate report we to put in the section will be created.
Just try this, not sure is this going to help you.

  • Value Based user guided Navigation Using Dashboard Prompt

    Hi all Experts,
I have a different dashboard pages and dashboards for each year sales and so on, like 2001,2002etc in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 answers and dashboard.
My requirement is using dashboard prompt for year need to navigate to that particular dashboard.
for example if I select 2001 should navigate to 2001 Dashboard
if I select 2002 should navigate to 2001 Dashboard.
and for another report for Top 10 Products if I select a product name should navigate to detail product report.
I am not getting idea using guided navigation link,
Please suggest me how we can implement this task into our report.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
my suggestion, don't that way..do the below things..
    1) for year wise sales report.
keep artificial Time Dimension and try map Date column into all othe fact table and try to use time.date column in the dashboard prompt that prompt will list out all the year like (2001,2002..2020..etc) make this propmpt column should be is prompted in that Answres report --> date column
    2) let Product wise report,
report 1 :Product Summary ( call u child report in the column properties -->Interaction--> value Primary interaction--> action link--> select bi content --select it u r report and save it run it.
report 2 :Product Detailed (this report navigation column make sure should be is prompted )
    Thanks

  • Using variables as filters in analyses launched by Guided Navigation links

I'm trying to build a navigation link that will launch an analysis and have the filters in that analysis respect the values of either Presentation Variables or Session Variables. I'm having success with an ordinary column. I'm not having success with a number that I need to type into a prompt.
Here's what I've done so far:
    1. Created a dashboard prompt based on the Month column. When a Month is selected, that selection populates the Request (Session) variable called Selected_Mo
    2. Created an analysis with:
    - a filter on the Month column: = Selected_Mo
    - the Month column
    - a column showing the value of Selected_Mo
    3. Placed both of those onto a dashboard page. When I select a value of Month, the month in the analyis changes, and the column showing the value of Selected_Mo changes. So far, all is good.
    4. Placed an Action Link on the dashboard. That action link launches the same analysis that I can see on the dashboard.
    5. Clicked the action link. The value of Month that I selected on the dashboard is shown in the analysis.
Now, I'm trying to do the exact same thing with a numeric entry field in a dashboard prompt, and I'm running into a stumbling block. I want to type a number into a field in a dashboard prompt, and populate a session variable called Change_Pctg. Selecting "Variable Prompt" in the dashboard prompt only lets me populate a Presentation Variable. But no matter. I've created a "dummy" field like we used to do in 10g, just creating a Column Prompt against a column formula of 1.
When I put the analysis onto the dashboard, it's correct. I can enter a number into the dashboard prompt field, click Apply, and that value is shown in the analysis on the screen. I'm filtering against that value as well, and the number of rows is right. So I know that I'm setting the value of that Change_Pctg session variable.
But when I click the action link, only Selected_Mo is respected by the target analysis. The Change_Pctg session variable is ignored.
    Any thoughts?

I'd like to abort this post. I've been able to replicate the error using a much simpler method. Refer to the post entitled 'Passing Presentation Variables to Guided Navigation'.

  • What is the alternative for DisplayMemberPath="Value" for Windows Store applications?

I think there is a bug with Windows Store Applications when it comes to using DisplayMemberPath="Value".
    Here is my code
