Alternative good cameras to iSight, help!!!

I am a loyal apple customer, but cannot get ahold of an isight camera without big bucks on ebay.
So, I understand that logitech and phillips have USB 2 cameras that sourceforge has drivers for.
How equivalent are they to the isight firewire set up? If not equal, are they decent?
I have a Powerbook 12" 1 ghz with 768 memory, firewire port, no USB 2. Am I out of luck here without isight as a good camera?

iSight was pulled out of the stores with a reason.
The Apple iSight -- both built-in and external versions -- has proven a temperamental device with regard to incremental Mac OS X updates. In some cases, other devices on the FireWire or USB 2.0 bus can generate interference. In other cases, software issues are to blame.
In at least some cases, the conflict is caused by the Classic environment being active -- perhaps with some Classic application or component attempting to gain control of the iSight, obviating other applications from using it.
Stopping Classic (via the Classic pane of System Preferences) then repairing permissions (using Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities) can re-allow use of the built-in iSight.

Good news and bad news:
The bad news is that you need CS6 or higher to open 6D RAWs. (The 6D didn't get support until Camera Raw 7.3; 7.0 premiered in CS6.) You can choose to upgrade (I'd recommend skipping CS6 and go straight for CC 2014 for $10/month) *OR*...
...the good news is that the DNG Converter can help you convert your RAWs into DNGs for use in CS5 and Lightroom 3.

Good camera for Aperture?

Hello. I am looking for a good camera that is not a DSLR. I have found a Sony that has 12.1MP and would like some opinions before I make the purchase. Any help would be appreciated. There's only 1 'compact' camera that I'm aware of that still supports RAW which is where you would get most of your advantage with using Aperture. The camera in question is the Leica D-Lux 3 which is a superb camera although a little pricey. I've borrowed one once and it took pictures that were quite frankly unbelievable when compared even with some pictures from a D200 Nikon. Have a look at http://www.leica-camera.co.uk/photography/compactcameras/d-lux3/ and try not to make your decision too much on the price. If you really want to get the best from Aperture and your Camera then the Leica would be my choice. If you're not hung up on the size, then Panasonic's mentioned here are also superb but the later ones such as the FZ-18 aren't supported which is Apertures downfall against Lightroom but that's a whole new topic.

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

Camera connection kit help,

Hi I am trying to use camera connection kit to import photos using sd card but nothing happening. I can transfer my photos via i tunes as i have tried this but wanted to use the camera kit any help would be appreciated

Most digital cameras use a standard naming format when they write photos to their memory cards, and the iPad and its camera connection kit only accepts that format i.e. directly off the root off the card should be a directory called DCIM, and underneath that are the photos, whose filenames should be exactly 8 characters long plus their file extension e.g. IMG_0001.JPG

IMG_0002.JPG
etc
(Digital cameras quite often have another directory between the DCIM and the actual photos, but it's just the DCIM one that is important.)
For direct transfer from your camera, you may need to change a setting on your camera - I know that some Canon DSLRs have a menu setting on them to enable 'PTP' (picture transfer protocol) on them, not sure about other makes.

Go buy yourself a iPhone 5. Sync your iPhone 3GS to iTunes on you computer so you have a back up ready to put on the iPhone 5. If you want you can update your iPhone 3GS with iTunes on your computer, but this is not necessary.

The camera roll is not part of the sync process at all.
You should be importing these photos to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera. Youc an organize them on your computer and sync the to the iphone if you wish.
The photos sync from the computer to the iphone is one way.
The iphone mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.

Do you get sound on any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not others ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. It's a built-in app, so it can't be deleted nor downloaded from the store. If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Camera being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

iphone camera as isight? this be done, in theory is there any reason this couldnt work?

The iPhone camera only takes photos; it does not record video and cannot be used as an iSight or webcam.

Warranty is valid only in country of original purchase. You have to return
the iPhone to the US for evaluation. Either you return it personally or send
it to a friend/relative/co-worker in the US to take into Apple. Apple will not
accept international shipments for evaluation nor will Apple ship out of the
country after repair/replacement.
Have you tried the standard trouble shooting steps: restart, restore, restore
as new iPhone?

Good Camera for sports & action

I am a photographer for a independent wrestling company and looking to invest in a new camera that matches the quality I need to take quite a few Action shots and fast speed photos I need advice with what would be a good camera for sports or alot of action I need something that will be capable of taking photos when there is alot of movement and not blurr the picture. also that will be good with keeping battery power that wont need to be charged as often or have batteries replaced frequently because these shows can be 1-3 hours long and I dont have time to rotate batteries or worry if the photo is blurred out. if someone can suggest or guide me to a camera that might be affordable or fit the description I will greatly appreciate it I would use this camera often so its got to be something that will be reliable with the job I have

+1 for the D90. Or if a Canon interests you, Canon's T1i is about the same class as the Nikon D90. You'll need to handle both to see which one appeals to you. Or if you are thinking of semi-pro/pro class bodies, look for a used Nikon D300 (can be found used for around $1100) or a new Canon 50D ($1300 @ BB). The 50D kinda falls between the D90 and D300. The 50D and D300 will be bigger than the T1i and D90 physically so if you have smaller hands these may be easier.
Lenses. Since wrestling events I've been too (yes I'll admit I've gone to a WWE event a couple times) the rings are pretty well lit. You may get away with a straight f/4.
Canon has a nice 17-40 ($840) but that may be a bit wide IMO. Maybe start with a 24-105 f/4 IS USM($1250). Only experience I've had with Canon lenses is when I play with friends Canons.
Nikon really doesnt have much for a straight f/4 lens in a range like Canon does (which irks me since theres times I dont need a f/2.8 nor in a shoot where the lense could get damaged). Also Nikon lenses arent exactly cheap and are a bit more $$$ than its Canons counterparts. But the glass IS extremely high quality. For fast action I wouldnt use 3rd party lenses for a Nikon. Nikons AF-S (focus motors are built in the lens) snaps instantly into focus. A screw drive lense (Nikon AF-D) uses the focus motor in the body and is slightly slower. Even my Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4 literally snaps into focus on 550mph jets at airshows. I have a few 3rd party lenses and even though the IQ of the lens is near Nikon quality, focus speed isnt as fast (even Sigma's HSM lenses dont focus as fast as AF-S in my experience).
Which ever brand you get, Canon or Nikon, they are both high quality equipment. I always recommend only these two brands of cameras for DSLR's. These are the two top dogs.
