Alternative Photos app

Hi there.
I currently own an iPhone 5C and have the latest iOS version installed.
I love taking photos and i love sharing them.  So, i'm looking for a very good free (or paid) app that is alternative to the Photos app of the iPhone in which i can do some more editing (more than basic or intermediate level but less than expert) and one in which i can share it with more ways like via Google+, Youtube, Dropbox, etc.
Thanks.

iPhoto is still in your applications folder and your original iPhoto Library is intact.  If you remove the new Photos Library file and then open iPhoto and select the old iPhoto Library, you can just use iPhoto for a while longer.  Maybe Apple will eventually get a clue and fix this mess.

• Any alternatives to "Photos" app for iPhone/iPad???

I can't stand the white background everywhere as a result of iOS7. For me, the worst is viewing my photo collections in Photos on either iPad or iPhone.
Can anyone recommend a better alternative to Photos? I already checked out iPhoto and didn't like that either.
I just wish Apple would give people the choice to select either black or white as a background, at least in the Photos app.
So any alternatives to Photos or besides iPhoto?
Thanks very much in advance.

I don't have another app to recommend to you but in the meantime, did you see this from the last discussion in the More Like This box to the right>>>>
Click on a photo to view it in full screen.
The photo now has white background, click the photo again and the background color will change to black.
You can now slide through your camera roll photos with black background.

• PNG files sent to iphone Photo App do not appear on 'date taken' (manually added in windows explorer)

I have over 1000 PNG files that do not have exif 'date taken'. They only have exif 'date created or modified'
The 'date created/modified' is not the actual date that I took the screen shots.
I added the 'date taken' manually in windows explorer. However, it seems that this does not write this data into the exif 'date taken' which remains blank.
When I transfer the PNG file from the PC to IPhone Photo App, it does not appear on the 'date taken' (that I added manually) but appears on the exif 'date created or modified'.
Interestingly, when I do same as above but with JPG file, it does show up correctly based on the 'date taken' (that I added manually in windows explorer).
So I converted the PNG file to JPG using one of the online tools. However, when I do this, the converted file does not retain the 'date taken'.
I can fix the above by:
1.  Use Paint to save the PNG file as JPG; this retains the 'date taken' but this is not the solution I am looking for as I would need to do this for each file (there is no bulk 'save as' in Paint)
2. Use a file conversion tool to bulk convert from PNG to JPG; but again this is not solution, as I would have to manually add the 'date taken' in windows explorer to each JPG file
Alternatively, I tried to rename the file name to include the 'date taken' and then use an exif date changer app to set the xhif dates based on file name.
However, I was not able to find any software that would allow me to do this. The software that I have seen only picks up the 'date taken' from file EXIF data. But in my case there is no such data in the file - only the 'date taken' that I manually added in Windows Explorer.
Any advice is appreciated. All I want to do is transfer PNG files from PC to Iphone Photo app and have these files appear in Photo app based on the 'date taken' (the one I manually added in windows - not the date taken in exif data).

Have you touched the "More" button (on the iPhone).
then gone to Audio Books.
Are they there?
I had an audio book still on my iphone, it survivedf the iOS5 update.
To get rid of it, I plugged iPhone into Mac,
Go to itunes.
Click on Iphone in iTunes.
Go to Books tab,
Scroll down, there is audio books.
Choose sync selected audio books,
And untick the ones I don;t want.
Dows this work for you?

• Iphone photos app breaks when you have 2^14 photos

I have six years of photos on my iPhone (which has changed over the years but is now an iPhone 5 with 64GB and running iOS 8.0.2)
Needless to say I use the Photos app quite a bit and every day.
I noticed a few days ago that the Photos app was not responsive.
I reset the phone (turned it off and then on) - no change
i factory reset the phone and restored from backup -- no change
Then I noticed the number of photos (counted via Image Capture) 16,431 (remarkably close to and just above 2^14).
I removed 290 photos from the phone (arbitrary number that put the total number of photos below 2^14).
Then I reset the phone (turned it off then on) and the photos app is back to working as fast as it ever did.
so, i suspect that the photos app has a problem dealing with more than 16,383 (or 2^14 - 1) photos in the Photos album
Can anyone else confirm this trouble or know when a fix will be made?

It's not a limit of the number of files in a folder.  A look at the iPhone with IFunBox shows that the photos are organized into folders of 1000 photos each.
The photos app seems to be designed to handle many many photos -- given that photos are organized by year and the folder organization I can see.
I'd like to use the photos app in the most natural way possible -- That is: take pictures and look at pictures that are well organized.
Alternatively, I'd like to have other albums organized like the many photo album (years, collections, moments).
Alternative to that I'd like to use a different app to view my photos -- especially if it organizes photos like the main
photo app (or even a better way if that exists) and can handle more than 2^14 photos.
Does anyone know of a photo app in the app store that meets those requirements?

• Problem: native Photos app crops my images

I have a problem with the native Photos app (MobileSlideShow.app) does not display my images properly - "cropping" the top and bottom - when I view the image in portrait mode. Let me illustrate this with an example. Here is my original image, dimensions 1408x2048:
When I view the image on my iPad Air (pixel resolution 2048x1536) in landscape mode, it looks like this (actual screen capture):
The app sensibly adds black bars to either side, allowing me to see the whole image. However, when I rotate to portrait mode, it looks like this (actual screen capture):
Notice how the top and bottom squares are chopped off. Rather than let me see the whole image by padding with black space on the sides, the photo app has decided it's better to zoom in and crop the top and bottom. Note that the image itself as saved is not actually cropped, just how the photo app displays it.
I'm looking for an option or an alternative app that allows me to see the entire images uncropped.
I am using an iPad Air 9.7, under IOS 7.1- but the same problem occurred on my old iPad 2 as well.

I found a workaround for this problem. I couldn't figure out how to fix the native Photo app, but MyPics, a free app, doesn't suffer from the same defect.

• Change background colour in Photos app

Hi there,
Just updated the OS and iPhoto has been replaced by Photos app. How do I set the background colour to my preferred dark grey, rather than the garish and interfering white? I can't find the settings to do this, have checked Views and Preferences.
Whilst on layout view, is  there a way to permanently switch on the titles? I've ticked titles in the metadata option, but the titles only show in a pale and fuzzy grey when you actually hover on the image. It's a dog's dinner and really unhelpful! If this is the only view 'option', the new app is entirely redundant as a useful photo manager. I hope Apple haven't just forced me to use the Adobe alternative.
Could Apple please employ a working photographer to aid the design and not an (anti) design pedagogue, please.

You're wanting a consumer app that's more geared for mobile devices to do what professional apps do normally.
Tell Apple what additional features you want in Photos via both http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html  since they don't have a feedback page for Photos as yet.
However, you should look into professional DAM (digital asset management) apps.  I use Media Pro 1 as my primary  DAM app and iPhoto for special projects like books, calendars, etc.
Information about other DAM apps can be found at  The DAM Forum.

• Cheap and worthless photo.app program

How?! How it was possible on to treat the buyer so many devil-may-carely?!
People, for years bought your production, kept the most high points, saved, edited and sorted the photos, and not on 1 gigabyte!
How it was possible, it is simple to take and it is so impudent, without having given even the chance of a choice, to change the program, for the discretion?!
Like, who doesn't want, can choose to himself, something another, we don't care?!
I think, now, the most exact moment, to outdo apple, other leaders and to step in all technologies because apple, on became haughty so many that doesn't put in the account at all, the user and yes to grasp one more kopek (to transfer violently, all to a subscription cloudy (the PAID!) service) to slide the accelerated rates down!
Come round, Dear Jobs isn't present more and to rescue for the second time, you there will be nobody!
Personally I as the buyer, I DEMAND that didn't return opportunity to use that appendix, namely to iphoto which I want and to which me it is more convenient as I paid for it in due time (the program was paid or I fitted into production cost, upon purchase, it is as if free)!
At least, having cleaned possibility of concealment of photos, forced to look for me alternative, this primitive aaplet, under the name photo.app, and to transfer all undesirable, for the general review of a photo, to the third-party carrier, on what by the way, too was necessary, because of you to be spent!!!

• Using Lightroom CC with Mac's new Photo app

I now own Lightroom CC and I have upgraded my Mac to the OS with the Photos app. So I no longer can use iPhoto or Aperture. How do I open "Photos" under the Pictures heading to pull the data for all my photos into Lightroom? I can't make a copy (as has been recommended) because I have too many photos.

The new Photos app does not work in the same way as iPhoto and can't be used to edit photos in external applications. If you have not removed iPhoto you should be able to use the built-in plug-in from LR CC. Alternatively export versions from iPhoto to the desktop or named folders in Finder. Then import the versions into LR using "Add"

• Photos app won't import to MS word

Just done the Yosemite update on Macbook Pro which has eradicated the much loved and used iPhoto - where I could easily import photos into word documents from the photo browser or drag and drop from the iPhoto window.  I use MS word for Mac and now I cannot drag photos into the documents from the new Photos App.
Also can't find an option to display the photo in the finder which was also available on iPhoto allowing me to find the original of the image.
Will this be fixed with another update? or is there another way of linking up the new Photos App with MS word for Mac?

For the time being you can drag photos to the desktop and then into MS Word, alternatively you could use Pages.

• Like most professional photographers, I shoot and edit in RAW rather then JPEG. Is Photos app going to allow me to use the RAW format?

iMac with 3TB drive and 32 GIG of RAM. Three DROBO storage systems for data and backup.

Try the alternatives, or wait for reports by the users who already migrated. For example, Capture One is more similar to Aperture than Lightroom:
http://www.cnet.com/news/phase-ones-updated-image-editor-throws-apple-aperture-u sers-a-lifeline/
http://www.photographybay.com/2014/10/01/capture-one-pro-8-unveiled-features-app le-aperture-migrate-option/
I'll keep my main libraries in Aperture, as long as it compatible with the operating system.  If that no longer works, I'll start a new main library with digikam. If there is no native Mac application, that offers what I need for my workflow, I'll switch back to open source software.

• GPU temp increasing rapidly after 10.10.3when I open photo app

Just updated to 10.10.3. After the update I see that the photo app is very unstable and just opening the app increases the GPU temps and it does not stop going up until I close the app. I don't even have to use it, just leaving the app open cause temp skips. I laptop GPU when up-to 83°C . Anyone else facing this issue? Do we have a solution?
I am using MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012).

• Is there a way to create a password protected folder for pictures or lock the photos app? For Ipad Air and Iphone 5s.

Is there a way to create a password protected folder for pictures or lock the photos app? I want to do this for Ipad air and Iphone 5s. I have other family members that use my Ipad and Iphone and do not want some pictures to be able to be viewed.

Use 3rd party apps like Photo Manager Pro.

• Photos app bug resurrects long-removed photos (related to PNG alpha)

Wanted to report/discuss a possible privacy concern and image glitch, and understand it better for submission to Apple's feedback page: the iPad (and maybe iPhone) Photos app will consitently resurrect long-deleted photos in your Camera Roll, under certain circumstances. These are long-removed photos (as in removed many months ago, prior to the iOS 5 update), and possibly only the reduced-size thumbnail versions.
Note: as near as I can tell, the deleted photos were NOT originally from the camera roll! That's where they resurface, but I believe they are photos from other albums, maybe once which used to by synched to iPad but which I no longer synch. So "removed" might mean deleted or it might mean "no longer synched to iPad"... the images are so old I can't recall.
So the bug, I'm guessing, it two-fold:
1) The Photos app (and/or iPhoto during wired synch?) is not fully removing photos (or at least, their thumbs). They're no longer visible in Photos app, but are being retained somewhere on the device.
2) A glitch in the Photos camera roll PNG handling (which I think may be new with iOS 5) causes those old images ro re-surface when you add a PNG to the camera roll. (The old photos were JPEG, but the image that triggers the bug must be a PNG with alpha channel)
I have seen this on both an iPad 1 and iPad 2, running iOS 5.
Here's how to reproduce it:
1) Synch some photos to your iPad, then deselect them for synching and re-synch (so they're not there any more). Also, add some photos or screenshots to the camera roll and then delete them. I say to do both because I'm not 100% where the old photos come from, and I'm hoping this covers all bases! Actually, most people have already done these things in the past, and can probably skip this step.
2)  Generate a transparent PNG using the art app Procreate (and probably any app that saves PNGs to the camera roll with alpha channel). All you have to do is scribble somethign into a blank Procreate canvas, then export it to your photo album. There is no need to do anything special to get an alpha channel or PNG format: you always get that. (Unless you used the Fill command to completely cover the canvas.) Now in the camera roll there should be your scribble on a transparent background. You can email it to yourself and see that clearly in Photoshop or Preview.
3) Here's the glitch: look at your camera roll (thumbnails view) and you'll see that the alpha-transparent background of the image has become one of your old removed photos! Tap it to enlarge and the alpha becomes black (which is fine, although it may seem odd if you intended to paint onto the default white canvas). But for just a moment, before you see the black, you will get a full-size glimpse of the old photo. (Or, maybe, an enlargement of the thumbnail?)
4) If you keep saving more alpha PNGs, you'll keep seeing more and different old photos coming back to life in the alpha regions of the thumbnails (and, briefly, at full size).
5) If you delete all those PNGs and then save some new ones, you'll see the same sequence of old photos reappear again.
Needed fix: removed phtos/thumbnails should be properly purged, and alpha PNGs should show simply black (or some default background) at all times.

Ok, I replicated it and I don't like it! I didn't use the one you marked cause I couldn't call it up properly but I did Bing
transparent gifs and loaded up 3, one was totally invisible in the thumbnail and I could clearly see one of my pics perfectly in the thumbnail but when I brought it to page the gif filled the frame.
I have no idea where the pic came from, I mean I recognize it but from where in the album I have no idea.
Oh yeah, I was wrong about the first pic coming to page, it wasn't the same image but a different one...and I have no idea how the one that came up, (what i thought was the underlying pic) did, or how it got there or even from where.
This is some weird stuff though not as weird as that silly *** movie, what a load of tripe; I should have just spent my
time on this, it's infinitely more enjoyable!
Ok, here's the consensus from my layman iPad view:
What happened now and most probably before was a 'transparent gif' or a partially transparent gif like the one I spoke of first that I could see the edge of or the outer perimeter of, the underlining image with the gif taking up say 3/4 of the thumbnail; this it what it was.
This is totally apparent to me now because of your having me import a totally transparent gif which was invisible over my pic, thus the freaky part I didn't like...keying the thumbnail with one thing and ending up with something totally different when brought to page.
Still doesn't explain where this silly iPad is grabbing these pics from?
But here's something funny; my camera roll shows say 9,200 pics but my, 'iMy System' app say I have like 11,300 which I always thought was a fluke, that it was just reading wrong but maybe it's seeing something we're not.           What if all those pics we're deleting to save space or just generally culling have never left the system?                     Maybe that goofy app is really reading the true count!
Those others up above us here who mentioned privacy concerns.. this could be whats going on, there's a ghost
in the machine and it be our old pics and god knows what else floating around in that iPads memory.
Ok, I'm crazy tired and I have to wrap this up. Least now we know how to replicate this but on the other hand I think we opened up an even bigger can of worms... the mystery of where all those images are hiding in our iPads?
I haven't hardwired to a computer since I upgraded to ios5 so whatever's going on here, leastwise for me is iPad
based and can't be blamed for synching issues like you discuss up above unless what I'm grabbing here is old stuff
reimported back into my pad from the mainframe when I was backed up for the ios5 upgrade?
Oh well, let me know what you think. Please do forgive my not getting back to you sooner on account of the movie
but you already know I regret choosing that over this! Hope you had a good night and thanks...

Before the photos app, I use to just plug my iPhone into my macbook and import my pictures to a selected folder in documents. I have all my photos stored from all my iPhones on my external hard drive. How do I do this now with the photos app? Im not brilliant with the macbook so might be simple for some so please can someone help? Thanks

You can continue t do that using Image Capture instead of importing into Photos - or you can import into Photos and go to the last import, select all and export tot he location of your wishes

Have iphone 4 with iOS 5.0. Took pictures but now I can't access any photo in the Camera Roll. When I now try to take a picture, Camera app crashes.
