Alternative power options

Will be taking my 32GB Touch on a business trip in a couple weeks and would like to have some alternate power source for long periods away from AC or auto power adaptors. What (if anything) are others using for this? Any opinions on the Griffin TuneJuice 2?

Somewhere I saw a similar product which uses AAA batteries but I can't find it now.

I used an iGo charger on a 10 day trip to Japan. There were some very long plane flights involved. It takes 2 AA batteries. You buy interchangeable tips that charge all sorts of other devices such as cell phones. Note: I believe you buy the device and the charging tip(s) of your choice separately. The charger by itself is useless. I bought mine at Brookstone (where the clerk told me it would only power, not charge my iPod despite what the package said. She was wrong) but RadioShack seems to sell them, too.

  • Cannot lower Critical Battery Level in Power Options

I am wanting to adjust the Critical Battery Level in Power Options to something lower than the default 7% that HP has set. When I try to change the number, it will not save and it just magically jumps back to 7%. This means that my laptop will hibernate when the battery level reaches 7% and I cannot turn it back on unless I plug it into AC power. 7% equates to roughly 40 minutes of battery time and I find this setting way too conservative.
I have done some research on this issue and have found the following:
Some suggest that PC manufacturers will somehow lock this setting to an arbitrary minimum and the user cannot change it to anything below this minimum (it appears HP have set it at 7% in my instance).
This link suggests using power.cfg and the command line to make the changes How To Lower the Critical Battery Level to 1% in Windows 7
Steps I have taken to try and resolve this:
I have tried the powercfg.exe method described in the aforementioned link to change the critical battery level to 3% and initially it appears to work. When I open up the Power Options screen, it indeed says 3%. However, when I actually test it out by using the laptop, it will still automatically hibernate at 7% battery level - it simply ignores the 3% setting.
I have also tried using powercfg.exe to change the Critical Battery Action to "Do Nothing" and likewise this setting is ignored and the laptop hibernates anyway.
I have phoned HP support and the only useful information that I got from them so far, is that the PC manufacturer has set it to 7% and it cannot be changed. They said they will escalate this matter to the research team and give me a call back.
I phoned Microsoft support and the consultant seemed to be confident that he could fix the issue but would not divulge the answer because he said that doing so would void the HP warranty and he didn't want to be to one to do that. He suggested that I call HP and request a conference call with Microsoft and they could then fix it. He seemed to be of the belief that if HP has set the 7% minimum that they should be the one to remove the limit.
If nothing works, I wonder if completely formatting the laptop (including removing the HP recovery partition) and then reinstalling a different Windows 8.1 (or Windows 7) will let me have full customization of the Critical Battery Level?
I would really appreciate your thoughts on how to fix this. It really fustrates me that HP thinks they know better and that the user needs to have 7% battery reserved - it is such a waste not to be able to utilize a battery to its full potential.

    Hi @Sparkles1 ,
There must be an alternative solution to this.
What is the reasoning behind HP locking this setting at 7% minimum?  I understand that a battery should not be run down to 0% as this will damage the battery but 7% is unreasonably high and in fact this does not conform with ACPI standard specification.  I refer to the following document: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn481320%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
In particular, please see the table where it says that the critical battery level must be set to a value between 0 and 5%
Can you please advise how to change this?  I believe this is a software related issue (specifically, the battery drivers).  Can you issue an alternative driver to install?  If you insist that it cannot be done, I will have no other option than to return the laptop and request a full refund.

  • Lightdm power options with systemd?

I gave up LXDM because it had a lot of bugs. LightDM seems to be ok - everything works except power button - nothing option is displayed. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lightdm-devel/  the source of this package include "lightdm-1.5.1-systemd_login1_power.patch". Unfortunately, neither this package nor the package from Community not works power options. Do you know light Login Manager (with user switch without logout - for ex. lxdm -c USER_SWITCH, dm-tool switch-to-greeter) ? Or does anyone knows a solution about lightdm? Are here lightdm users ? I once used the XDM, but to switch users without login i have to use xdmcp (It was ugly solution).

Just switched from LXDM to LightDM also.
It seems that there is somebody trying to implement systemd-logind support for LightDM.
And the developers of LightDM welcomes the patch.

So maybe what we need to do is just wait for some time.

  • Where are power options saved in the Windows registry?

The problem is that a customer IT department did something wrong during deploying GP preferences. Now nothing is working and we have to delete all settings, that the new GP preferences I newly created will work.
Now GP preferences is not working on 300 clients. I don't know what they have done. If we reinstall the clients, GP preferences (power settings) are working fine. They have only used GP preferences for power settings. No other changes before the problem started.
My senior manager told me to delete power options / settings in the Windows registry. So I can delete this?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{025A5937-A6BE-4686-A844-36FE4BEC8B6D}

    Hi
Where are power options / settings from Windows 7 saved in the Windows registry? We deploy the energy settings via GPO’s.

  • Satellite P10-804: Toshiba Power Options - How to disable Hibernation

    Model SP10 - 804
How do I disable the Hibernation feature ?
The box 'Enable Hibernation' is ticked and greyed so I cannot untick it !
I don't use this feature and would like to delete the file hiberfil.sys which is over 1GB.
I understand that by disabling Hibernation this file should delete. I read about it here:
    http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/hiberfil-sys-xp.html
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I presume the Toshiba Power saver utility was installed on your system.
In such case the Windows own power options are disabled and the TPS controls the hibernation and standby mode.
You can switch back to the window power mode in the control panel -> power options.
There you have to choose to another power scheme as the Toshiba power saver.
Otherwise you can remove the TPS from the system!
However, in my opinion the hiberfil.sys has no bad influence on the system and it's really not necessary to delete this file.
On my system the file size was never ever 1GB.

  • Power Options Settings keep resetting back to default and system goes to sleep.

Hi I have Windows Server 2012 Standard R2 installed on one of my servers, in which there is an issue with the power settings. In power options it keeps selecting the Balanced plan by default. Even if I manually change the power plan it still keeps resetting
back to the default Balanced plan which in turn puts the System to sleep after 4 hours. Please let me know if there is a way to resolve this issue. I have even tried using powercfg -SETACTIVE from command prompt by giving the appropriate Power Scheme
GUID. But it didn't work either. Anyone please help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

Again, this is something outside the bounds of Windows Server.  Windows Server does not do that.  I looked at default installations of both physical and virtual servers and there is nothing there to cause a sleep or power off.
In fact, the only real power setting I see in the Balanced power plan is to turn off the display after x amount of time.
Do you have power savings enabled on your NIC card?  Is there some setting in VMware?

  • (SOLVED) Display brightness disappeared from Power Options in Vista, Lenovo G530

    Hello board,
My system Lenovo G530 product ID 444638U
I used to be able to adjust display brightness in Vista from Control Panel > Power Options. I could set how bright when on battery and how bright when on AC. Also, it used to be that when I unplugged power cable it would automatically adjust my brightness according to those settings. Now, nothing happens when I unplug power cable, not even a beep.
Possible problem is as follows, but let's keep an open mind to other things as well. I spilled beer on keyboard recently. ONLY on keyboard I am sure. I replaced keyboard with something that fits but something that isn't made for my laptop, has different arrangement of Fn+ keys. Basically ever since the beer accident and ever since I replaced keyboard I had this brightness issue.
    Please help me solve this.

    I solved this problem..
Solution is to upgrade the BIOS to latest version. I am not sure actually whether latest BIOS had the needed fix or not, or it was just the process of updating the BIOS that solved this issue.  But no doubt, after flashing the BIOS, display brightness function reappeared!

  • Alternative querying options at BI

Could you help me giving some information, links, notes, about alternative querying options at BI infoCubes. FYI: I don't want to use Query Designer o Web Application Designer or BEx Analyzer via excel based reports.

With BI 7.0 there is an option of native Excel 2007 access.
The SAP Business Objects tools can access BW - Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, Voyager, and is SAP's future direction, replacing Analyzer and Web Qery Designer.

  • Serious Power option reset of Maximum Processor State everytime it sleeps, restart, etc

Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide or at least point me to the correct forums to post.
I just got my new T420 and I cannot enjoy it for the following reason.  Under power options, I created a custom balanced profile and set my Processory Power Managment settings to
-100% for Maximum processor state on battery and plugged in.... and
-5% for Minimum processor state on battery and plugged in.
Everytime i put my computer to sleep, hibernate, restart, shutdown, etc the maximum processor state always resets to 5% on on both plugged in/battery,
This means I cannot enjoy my new PC at full 100% processor state ever.  Is there a startup program that affects this?  I am running NVidia 4200 and Intel chips.
Is there a chance the Lenovo Thinkvantage power manager is interfering?  I have troubleshooted every setting on both to still get the same result.
Is anyone aware of have any input onto this?
Thank you so much in advance.  I am really desparate.    Lenovo support has not experienced this problem prior when I called prioirty support.
    Nick

    @test8545,
Try uninstalling the Power Manager and Power Management driver once that is done, reboot the laptop and install both mentioned software again via the Lenovo support page (support.lenovo.com)

  • K430 ignores windows power options settings

I have a brand new Ideacentre K430.  One of my main annoyances with it is that, regardless of how I set Windows power option settings, it logs me out after just one minute idle time, and then requires a password to log me in again.
This is despite my having set the display to shut off after 45 minutes, to never go to sleep, and not to require a password on wakeup.
This is really annoying, as my work often involves switching back and forth between the computer and books/papers, so I need to be able to leave it a minute without retyping my password.  Can somebody help?!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok, I solved the problem.  Right-click on the desktop, click personalize, then click on screen saver.  Even if you have it set for no screen saver, it still uses the setting there for a period of inactivity to log you off.  This gives you options for delaying that forced log-off, or not requiring a password afterward.

  • Is it possible to set GRoup Policy to prevent users manually changing Power Options?

    Hello,
We use Dell laptops and there is a very well known issue that certain models freeze when they are docked.
I have adjusted the power settings under high performance plan, and updated this in the group policy, which I have tested and is all fine.
Basically, on the laptops now, the users can still change it from the GPO plan to balanced or power saver if they want to.
Is there a way of setting group policy so the other power options are greyed out or cannot be used?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
If the user is a local administrator on the client they will be able to change the plans. (They changes will be reverted when logging off though)
But if they are standard users, it should be grayed out already.
Check this link for more information, if there is a step that you might have missed when configuring the GPO. (Three pages/Parts)

  • [Helix 2nd gen] Alternative stylus options

    Hi all,
Loving my Helix 2nd gen so far. Not happy with the palm rejection (only starts when very close; would love to double the range). But I guess I will just create a toggle button that deactivates the touch screen through the registry.
Anyway, my question: Are there any alternative stylus options for the Helix 2nd gen? I found an older thread indicating that "penabled" Wacom styli(?) work, but I don't think this attribute is displayed on any of their current products.
Any styli you can recommend for the current Helix? (Maybe even one that extends the palm rejection distance?)
    Thanks for your advice!
    Moritz

I just tested the Stylus of the Lenovo X230T and it works without issues. Guess I have to calibrate it though. The thing I do not like with the Stylus of the Helix 2nd is that the click button is plan to the stylus. So it is allways hard to find and press if you have some bigger fingers.
So - any other Lenovo Wacom Stylus should run, I guess.

  • Can't find battery power option for time machine

I'm semi new to macs. I've been messing around with my wife's for the last week or so.
I first upgraded her OS to 10.5. After the initial upgrade I was given both the
    a) battery power option and
    b) time machine in menu bar option.
Unfortunately after messing around with her sparesimage I corrupted it and had to do a clean install last night. After this clean install these two time machine options are missing.
Can anybody lead me in the right direction on how to restore both of these options?
Working with a Macbook with an intel processor. Pretty sure last night did all the software and OS updates, so I should be running 10.5.5.

    a) I don't need my laptop's battery status... I want the option to disable time machine backups when my computer is running on battery power.
    b) As my original post states, that option is no longer on the Time Machine preferences screen. It has disappears since I re installed the OS.
