Alternative Sound Enhancement / SmartAudio Lite

Hi all
For those who wanted to try something other than Dolby, and / or having sound quality issues with the default Conexant driver or external low output issue with Dolby, you are welcome to try my new modified SmartAudio Lite drivers.
I will be posting new sound tweaks with additional 3rd party equalizer that could work well with SmartAudio. It will be released out soon.
Stay tuned!
EDIT: Download link and instruction to install is in the attachment. (SmartAudio Lite.pdf)
EDIT2: Note: Currently, this does not support Dolby EQ, except T420s and X1.

Hi all
The attachment below is the SmartAudio Lite pdf with the hyperlink fixed.
For equalizer, you could try EqualizerAPO (link below). However, to have different EQ settings for internal and external device. I would recommend you open SmartAudio > Audio Director > Switch to Multi-Stream mode.

  • I can't find how to apply sound enhancements (EQ) for the podcasts now with iOS 6.0 update

    Dears at Apple:
I can't find how to apply sound enhancements (EQ) for the podcasts now with iOS 6.0 update on any of my devices(iPhone 4s, iPhone Touch (4th Gen), iPad (3rd Gen). Most of the "Podcasts" I listen to are music content based and wanted to apply sound enhancements(EQ) like before when integrated with ipod function. Can you consider to "fix" this issue?
    Many Thanks!

OK Emanuel I found a solution! I dowloaded and installed "Denon Audio" app from the iTunes store & it works great! It has an EQ you can set curves on manually or use the (few) built in pre-sets. It is a player like the Music app that comes with the iPhone, etc. but restores the EQ functionality so we can adjust the audio of PODCASTS:-) Until Apple fixes this what I consider a bug I will be using the Denon app as my default music player!

  • Can anyone explain in detail the option: "sound enhancer"?

Can anyone explain in detail the option: "sound enhancer"?

On what level should I put the slider (middle, maxim, disable or else)?
    Whatever sounds best for you.
o the stereo sepparation will make what ? The centralpoint of the voice will be wider?
Yes. Seems to add a bit of 3D/reverb.

  • Xperia Z1 Sound Enhancements disbaled by default. How to make it enable?

By default in my Xperia Z1 Sound Enhancements are desabled. Rest two options(clear Audio+ & Dynamic normalizer) are open and working well.
Is it ok or somthing wrong with my software. My phone software is up-to-date.

That doesn't work, something definitely wrong with the software system! It opens to the adjustment of the equalisers but will crash when settings is.openrd

  • ITunes sound enhancing

Is there any third party program that could enhance iTunes' playback quality? I've tried the sound enhancer under preferences but I'd like something even better that can really give the sound some extra oomph...

Have you muted sound in iTunes?

  • SRS premium sound enhancements not working!!!!!

Two weeks back I installed Windows 8. Now I have Win 7 & Win 8 on dual boot. But SRS premium sound enhancement does not improve the sound quality in windows 8 as it does in windows 7. I mean it does nothing when I slide the audio enhancement slides. The sound is same whether the srs audio enhancement is enabled or not. But the equalizer works fine, only the audio enhancements not working.....my laptop HP G6 1202tx i3 4gb ram 500gb hdd 1gb radeon. Everything is okay in windows 7 but what happened to windows 8?

You could try to install the Windows 7 driver in compatibility mode:
Visit HP Support and get the Windows 7 drivers for the hardware you'd like to try.
Download the driver to your desktop.
Allow the extraction to complete but close the installation process when it comes up.
Navigate to the C:\swsetup\ folder.  You will see your driver listed here.  They usually have a name like "sp56349".  Navigate to this folder.
Within your driver's folder you will see a "setup.exe" file.  Right click this file and select Properties.
    Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
Click the box that says "Run this program in Compatibility mode for..." and also select Windows 7 from the drop down menu.
Check the box which says "Run this program as administrator" at the bottom.
Save these changes and double-click the "setup.exe" to begin the install.
Once the install completes reboot your PC and verify the functionality of the piece of hardware.

  • Sound Enhancer

I'm wondering, if they had put Sound Enhancer in iTunes, couldn't the same be implemented into the iPod software? It's really difficult to adapt now, because I've been listening all my songs with Sound Enhancer turned on for almost one year. Now that I bought an iPod the sound is very flat (equalizer doesn't help much, it only increases certain frequencies, bigger bass and cleaner treble, etc.) and I really hoped that such feature would be available, but it seems that Apple didn't concentrate more on sound quality (more work has been done on it's design and capacity). Overall, sound is ok, headphones are fine (could've been better, but I won't grieve), it's just that I miss those "hidden" sound effects that are not heard (hidden in the background) when Sound Enhancer is off.
Well, I just wanted to add some comments concerning the sound quality on the new iPod (the first I ever bought) since I expected a little bit more. Hopefully Sound Enhancer (or maybe some newer "virtual surround" feature) will be built in new iPod's in the future so I (and those that feel the same) can experience our music the way it was ment to be heard.

  • What is Crossfade Playback&Sound Enhancer &should equalizer be on or off?

What exactly do both of these do? I still have mine I think on the default settings though I have turned off the Crosfade playback a few times while importing cds. Also seen the equalizer on iTunes is on with it on flat and wondering if should turn it off on iTunes because I keep the equalizer off my Ipod most off the time .Thank-You

Crossfade Playback overlaps the currently playing track with the next track. The time setting indicates how long an overlap you get at the end of the currently playing track. It basically fades the currently playing track out, and fades the next track in. This setting has no effect on importing CDs.
Sound Enhancer makes changes to the sound during playback to make the sound 'better' for small or low powered speakers that you get with computers or laptops.
The equalizer on iTunes also affects playback in iTunes only, not your iPod. Your iPod equalizer applies to all tunes played back on your iPod only. But if you have assigned a specific Equalizer Preset to a song in iTunes, your iPod will play according to that setting if your iPod Equalizer is set to Off.

  • What excatly does Sound Enhancer do?

I was going though all of the settings and noticed I had Sound Enhancer turned off. What excatly does Sound Enhancer do? Do most people use it?

When i tried it out many years ago, I found it just made everything sound like C-R-A-P so I never touched it again after that.

  • What is Sound Enhancer?

What is it? I'm a bit of an audiophile, and I prefer hearing music as it was on the CD (as the artist intended). I've played with Sound Enhancer and there's a diffirence (I can't say if it's good or bad), but what does it do? Is this some kind of equalizer setting, volume changer, or what? I'm not comfortable with a setting that claims to magically making things sound "better".

iTunes "enhances" the sound of your audio files by increasing the treble and bass response, depending on how you set the slider. Think of it kind of like the "Loudness" button found on an old home stereo system, but adjustable. If you move the slider toward the "high" end, iTunes boosts more of the equalization, meaning things will generally sound punchier and crisper. If you move it towards the "low" end, iTunes will decrease the same frequencies.

  • Does Itunes sound enhancer affect Ipod sound?

I just purchased a Ipod video. And I think the sound quality has too much of a 'surround' sound. My EQ is off. Will adjusting the sound enhancer in itunes help minimize the 'surround' sound on my Ipod?

    No, it's for iTunes only.

  • Using the sound enhancer with the preset equalizer settings

How do I use the 'sound enhancer' along with the preset equalizer settings, like 'rock', etc.?

    Hello, Troy.
Below is the article about the iTunes sound adjustment feature that you may find helpful.

  • Itunes 'Sound Enhancer' questions.

Will turning this option off revert the sound to exactly as it was before or does Sound Enhancer permanently alter/change the file itself, even in the slightest most miniscule way?

Sound Enhancer does not modify the .mp3 or .wav file or any other file for that matter. If you are talking about the one in the playback preference pannel, it only modifies playback sound which can be compared to an equalizer. The exact impact of the output sound is still unclear (how they get the sound that comes out I mean) but the file is 100% unchanged and unchecking the box will bring back playback to normal. Think of it as an equalizer but with better functions and better effects. Like I said, people still don't seem to know what effects the Enhancer modifies on output.
Feel free to try it its 100% reversible.

  • "Sound Enhancer"  What is it?

What is it and how much better when set to High? Default is mid. Is it new to iTunes 8?
    - Preference/Playback/Sound Enhancer

    http://forums.dealmac.com/read.php?4,2611622
"Apple says it is similar to a loudness control:
"If you select the "Sound Enhancer" checkbox, iTunes "enhances" the sound of your audio files by increasing the treble and bass response, depending on how you set the slider. Think of it kind of like the "Loudness" button found on an old home stereo system, but adjustable. If you move the slider toward the "high" end, iTunes boosts more of the equalization, meaning things will generally sound punchier and crisper. If you move it towards the "low" end, iTunes will decrease the same frequencies."
Others claim that there's more to it than that:
    [en.wikipedia.org]
"iTunes includes sound processing features, namely an equalizing section, and its "sound enhancer", which in some languages is translated into "sound improver". The enhancer works by inserting out-of-phase components of the signal into the opposite stereo channel, a technique often used on elements in music production."
    (blueintheface):
"What iTunes does in this respect is the same as the 'Wide' button found on ghetto blasters in days of yore - some high frequencies from each channel are phase-inverted and fed to the opposite channel. This makes the stereo-width apparently greater - but comes at the expense of any real definition of placement. It might be instantly appealing in its queasy-making phasey-ness, but in reality the whole stereo image is smeared. It's an effect that destroys any spatial naturalism to any recording, and so wouldn't be suitable for use on any 'realistic' recordings say of an orchestra or a jazz band. I'm not saying it doesn't have its place - because someone will probably have a hit with the most artifically widend track next week - just to be aware of what you're doing, and sometimes what is instantly appealing ends up ultimately fatiguing. "
Some say it is a close relative of Arboretum's Realizer that combines:
"Bass Maximizer * The same effect found in Hyperprism offers an incredible assortment of bass enhancement and maximization effects, ranging from subtle bass enhancement to extreme bass generation. Increase the perceived amount of bass, even on low end systems with poor bass frequency response, by harmonics which fool the brain into hearing lower frequencies.
"Harmonic Exciter * Have you ever had an audio track that sounded dull and boring, which no amount of EQ could fix? Instead of simply boosting frequencies already present, as occurs withEQ, the Harmonic Exciter generates new high frequency harmonics, thereby extending the bandwidth and increasing the liveliness of the original audio.
"Stereo Enhancement * Expands the stereo spectrum.""
