Alternative streaming source for AppleTV?

I just bought the new Time Capsule to make room for more movies to be played on my AppleTV, but then it seems I still need my mac running to manage it all thru iTunes!!!
This is so not ok! I don't want to keep my Mac running at all times just to connect AppleTV to iTunes when I don't have any other need for it. All my daily tasks are normally well covered by my iPads and phones. There must be another possible way for AppleTV to access my media externally? Or is it time to look for totally other solutions?
Now, back to the store to return my Time Capsule - sadly it was a waste of money!

Alternative data source for EO and VO

It is usually the requirement to customize the Entity Objects and View Objects so that they can work with data sources different than database schema objects (tables, views,...), some examples are Web Service or Oracle Coherence cache.
I have developed mini projects using both data sources mentioned, by overriding relevant methods in the implementation EO and VO classes. There is one limitation I realize when developing these projects. Although both the EO and VO rely directly and completely on the alternative data sources (Web Service and Coherence), still there must be a schema object existing in the local database to back the EO and VO. This is because I still have to call super methods from ViewObjImpl and EntityImpl, and these methods are still doing some operations with the schema objects, and without these objects, ORA-00942: table or view does not exist will be thrown.
For example, after overriding executeQueryForCollection in ViewObjImpl to take data from web service, it is still necessary to call super.executeQueryForCollection so that data will actually appear on the web page, and without the schema objects, this method will throw ORA-00942.
My question is, is there any way to completely eliminate the need of schema objects in EO and VO? I know the answer (if exist) will be complicated but I'm willing to explore.

I figured out how to achieve this.
Basically when creating the EO, I did not specify the schema object in the first step, and for each attribute that I created in the wizard, I also unchecked the checkbox "persistent". I could then create VO based on this EO and override all the necessary methods in the EO and VO so they can do CRUD operations via Web Service.
In the case of only creating an VO (read-only, for retrieving/reading data only), I could also mark each attribute as "transient" by checking a checkbox in the creation wizard.

Http Stream As A Source For MOH

Looking for documentation to confirm that Lync can use http .mp3 stream (such as icecast) as a source for MOH.

Base on my understanding, the music file for MOH must be in WMA format and a resource locally in the client computer. The http .mp3 format music file will not work for Lync MOH.
You can use the local .wma format music file, and the default hold music file patch is: :\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Lync\Media\DefaultHold.wma.

Where can I get alternative export codecs for CS3?

I have an application requiring exporting of Flash animations to run on an embedded media player. This accepts a number of video formats. The most reliable I have found so far is DivX. The player supports DivX versions 3.11, 4.x & 5.x. The export codec in CS3 is DivX 6.8.5 which is not compatible with the player.
The player also supports MPEG2 but the quality is not very good. Other options are Xvid Mpeg4 video (doesn't work) and MS Mpeg4 video codec V2 & V3 (also not supported in CS3).
I have tried downloading a variety of alternative second source file converters but frankly tied myself in knots. Any idea how I can get around this problem and get a DivX 5.x codec to work natively within CS3?

If you create an actionscript animation in Flash CS3 you can either save it directly as an FLA or output it as an SWF file. However the usual Flash video formats (FLV and SWF) are useless if you want to play a Flash animation on a standalone non-PC based embedded media player since most of these only support things like AVI, MPEG2/4 and DivX. Flash does offer the user the ability to export an actionscript animation in a number of alternative video formats via File> Export> Export Movie. Of course doing this means that you can't have interactive elements like buttons in your Flash but if all you want is to output a video stream then this function is very useful. However the DivX codec that is included with CS3 is a later version than that supported by my media player.
All I want to do is to be able to add a suitable DivX V5 codec to Flash CS3. Is there such a thing and, if so, how do I install it?

(FYI I'm posting this after reading through many prior threads in this group.)
I'm looking for suggestions for QTPro alternatives; please see below for background.
I need to create iPhone 3GS (OS 3.0)-viewable video clips containing chapters and subtitles (among other requirements and nice-to-haves). Last week I bought QTPro for this, but am afraid I did so without sufficient due diligence since I've run into limiting functionality or workflow. I'm posting here before I go buy another tool as hastily.
-- I want a GUI tool to create video clips containing chapters and subtitles (subtitles could be simply text layovers) viewable (including chapters and subtitles) on my Mac in QT, in iTunes, and on an iPhone 3GS.
-- I want to have just one file as a final output, which file I could re-edit in situ without needing to have a separate/original "source" file, and without needing to re-compress or -convert it and thereby lose image quality.
-- i find my iPhone accepts mp4 and m4v content, but not mov. In fact, iTunes doesn't even give me the option to sync mov content.
My issues with QTPro are the following:
-- QTPro seems to natively edit/save to mov (only) if saved video is to contain chapters and subtitles. If I "Export" from QTPro as, say, m4v, chapter information is lost.
-- If as some posts suggest I first save [unchaptered] video as m4v, then add chapters using QTPro, I still run into the same issue: I need to "Save" to retain newly-added chapter info and thus get an mov file; if I "Export" I can get an m4v, but lose chapter info.
-- So what I've been doing is importing the QTPro-chaptered mov file into Garageband, and then "Share" as m4v. That retains chapters. But this is overall a gnarly process: chapters using QTPro and a text file, subtitles too using the same method (though iMovie does it better), Garageband to make it iPhone-usable. And then it gets really messy if I need to add a video or still image mid-stream!
-- BTW, no, I don't want to use Garageband itself to chapterize ... because it's a more general-purpose "mixing" tool with attendant baggage: it creates huge "band" files as large as the source itself yet needs separate source for re-edits; its performance isn't snappy; its timeline hard to work with, et cetera.
Here are apps I've tried:
-- Metadata Hootenanny: nice for metadata, and for chapters. No subtitles; saves as mov. Can't use.
-- Apple's chapter-izing utility that Garageband itself purportedly uses: didn't find it online, and didn't search too hard since it seemed to be a command-line tool.
-- Miyu Subtitler, and several sundry similar utilities: these either did 1 thing, or didn't do things well.
My best bet thus far seems to me SimpleMovieX.
What I like about SimplemovieX are:
-- it "natively" saves to mov, m4v, mp4
-- it does chapters just fine
-- it makes it easy to splice clips and still images, and adjusts prior edit-points such as chapters automatically
-- it's actually fun to use
What I wish were better are:
-- it seems its subtitling is rudimentary
-- it seems it doesn't allow per-track editing (but since I already have QT Pro, I can use that is I need to remove a track, etc)
SimpleMovieX is what I'll buy next, barring a better suggestion in the same price range (max ~ US$ 40; Final Cut Pro, at $1200 isn't something I could really justify to myself).
So, suggestions, anybody?

I'm finding WorldCaption less than satisfactory for the following reasons:
-- it needs a text file as input (which is fine) but I don't see a way for the file also to specify caption times. Times need to be specified via the UI, and that can soon get old. WorldCaption can "export" captions and times, yes, but i don't see an option to "import" it back in. Lastly, World-caption-created application-specific documents are not plain-text files, so there's no going in with a simple editor and tweaking times, caption text, etc
-- worse, I see that in some cases caption times are mis-saved -- times are off by a few seconds, even, and I'm pretty sure this is not a keyframe thing. I haven't identified the exact sequence of events that causes this, and given its earlier limitation I'm not too inclined to pursue this.
So I went back to the drawing board to look at other captioning/subtitling tools.
Specifically, Submerge.
Submerge uses, say, SRT files for input, works well and does what it claims to do ... except it doesn't seem to render some characters in caption text. ">", for instance. I've tried backslash-escaping it, and HTML-entity-ing it, with no success. I've written the developer(s), and hopefully will hear back so i may go ahead and buy the product.
Submerge was useful for another reason: its "iPhone" output was a "MOV" file that does in fact transfer to and play on iPhones. Hmm, so that must mean not all "MOV" files are equal: it seems nearly as if if MOV files are limited to specific features (eg 1 video track, 1 audio track, 1 text track, etc) then they're playable on the iPhone. I'll need to read up on this.

Final Cut Timeline Feed as video source for iChat?

I was at the Apple NAB presentation in Vegas a few weeks ago, and one of the things they showcased in regard to iChat AV was the ability for an editor to videoconference with several other people at once and one of the video feeds in the chat window was actually the output from the editor's Final Cut Pro timeline. As he made changes in the FCP timeline, he could play it out in real time and all the people in the chat could see the video feed and make comments on the edit.
OK- so we were excited because that's a workflow issue we have here. So, we bought some iSight cameras and Tiger and started to do some testing here. The only problem is that it doesn't seem very easy to set up. At first I just thought, "well, they are just playing the timeline out of the firewire port on the FCP machine and another computer is ingesting that firewire stream as a video source for iChat." except when you connect 2 Macs together with a firewire cable, the FCP system doesn't detect a DV video device to output to and the iChat system doesn't detect the incoming firewire stream as a "camera". I spoke to tech support and they said it's not something they support so no luck there.
I did find an article on Creative Cow about someone doing something similar, but it involved exporting the FCP timeline out through a Kona analog video card into an external tape deck that does analog to DV conversion which then can be imported back into iChat as a DV stream, but last time I checked, a Kona card would run me around 1500 bucks.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Based on the Auto Responding iChat Accounts that play films I would guess they were either using an AppleScript to import FCP as the Video sourdce or usiing an Add-On like iChatUSBCam that also alows you to change the video source to the desktop.

RESPONSES:
1)   When I set up my iMac, I did not transfer any data directly from my windows PC. I simply used the same iTunes login and account. I have access to all of the files via the "Purchased" section of the iTunes store. If I click "Download Previous Purchases" text, I can download ALL of the purchases I have ever made.
2)   I have the Apple TV 2, so good news, question answered. I thought maybe it was the Apple TV 1, but it is the Black model, so bam. Good response for you. Well the whole damned reply is an awesome response, just pointing out that one piece of awesome. I stated that it was an Apple TV 2, and yet you were still good enough to figure I could be mistaken, and provide me with knowleedge just incase.
QUESTIONS:
3)   So can my iMac not stream the data directly from itunes, without download? Apple TV can, but perhaps that is something among many things that maker it unique, and awesome.

I work in the computer support section for the Military. The only problem is we use Windows , lol. Well that and i've been gone for nearly 6 months on recover. I go back next month though I hope. Use an incoming video feed as camera source for Adaobe Connect

We are looking for a way to use an incoming video signal -
say, from a Skype video chat - as the "camera source" for an Adobe
Connect webcast. So instead of using the attached webcam, the host
of our meeting would be able to broadcast the Skype video stream.
We need to be able to do this in real time, to ensure we stayin
sync with a separate audio channel (being delivered outside of
Adobe Connect).

Another option for external video is a USB video capture
device. These have been around for some time, and let you connect
composite or S-Video sources to your PC. Works great with Connect
Pro. The box in front of me right now is an Airlink 101 model. I
use Firewire (IEEE1394) input from a professional camcorder for
most of my sessions, in order to get the best quality video (that
then gets squashed by the compressor ).

Using external database as source for automator

I have approximately 1500 quicktime files which require annotations added to them (title, author etc).
I've been provided a spreadsheet with all the neccessary data. And I know there is an automator action that can add annotations to quicktime files but was wondering if either of the following was possible:
1) Can I get the an automator script to use this spreadsheet as a source for the values it is to enter.
OR
2) If I can get automator to add the files name to the annotations section (under title)

The thing to remember is that with the new Apple TV, all these things had to be written from scratch. The code that made these things work on the old Apple TV can't just be ported to the new one, but it had to be re-written.
The situation you describe, which if I understand you would require the Apple TV playing some content on streamed from iTunes and also Airplayed to an Airport Express, whilst the iTunes library is also streaming another track to a different set of speakers sounds like an incidental benefit, rather than what it was originally designed to do (and, I would suggest a fairly niche use as well).
I have to admit, it's the one thing that has been suggested as a use for the old ability to stream from the Apple TV to Airplay devices that can't now be easily recreated (although an iOS device could be used to set up the second stream). My initial feeling is that the demand for this ability would be too low for Apple to be convinced to add it, but I could be wrong.
EDIT to say that, on reflection, this ability could be useful where a household relies on Airport Express to play music in different rooms and where people want to listen to different content from the same library.
In this case, I think that the best solution if Apple wanted to make this easy would be to either allow iTunes to send more than one stream controlled from the computer, or to allow the remote app to get the Airport Express to pull the stream in the same way that Apple TV does.
Using the Apple TV as a kind of bridge is a fairly inelegant work round.

Generating a constant source for Channel gain/fading estimation

I am using Labview Communication Design suite for programming USRP RIO.
I want to measure channel gain between RX-TX pair for which I plan to send a stream of 1111111 and see the received envelope( without modulating for now).
Since such source for Sin wave was available I thought of generating 1111 stream using 1= sin(m)/sin(m) as per follwing design or 1= sin(m)-sin(m) +1
The issue is though I can see that the waveform entering USRP as data to be streamed is a DC level but at reception side I am getting a sin wave!!
for TX side being:-
Receiver USRP should actually receive a faded random channel for transmitted sequence of 111111! I cannot explain the behaviour!
Even the frequency of Sin wave recived varies with the amplitude of the DC multiplier!
Please help explain the situation.

Can you please provide me with a little more information on how you are recording in the TX data? How are you demodulating the signal? Why are you expecting it to be a faded DC value? Which sine wave generator are you referring too? The carrier frequency or the waveform generator VI in LabVIEW?
I would expect the output of the TX to be the carrier frequency tone, with an amplitude dependent on the DC level.
If you have hardware specific questions, I recommend posting them to the SDR forum.

Use View Object with Alternative Data Sources in View Link

In my case, I created a view object based on alternative data source (not with SQL query). I have setQuery(null) in the override create() function for this View Object. When I use this View Object at the destination end of the View Link, the setQuery(null) will raise Jbo-26016 exception (You cannot set customer query (calling setQuery()) on a view object if it is the detail view object in a master detail view link.) which does not allow me to do that. I looked Avrom's Framework for Database API-Based ADF BC, in which he override the DBTransaction and CallableStatement in order to intercept the default query clause set by the View Link. I'd like to see if there is any alternative ways to achieve my objective?

Just following up what I found so far. I'm trying to use customized View Object based on alternative data source at the destination end of View Link with ADF 10.1.3.
1. For the View Object at the destination end of View Link, I can not call setQuery() which will raise Jbo-26016 exception.
2. I can omit the setQuery(null) call in my customized ViewObjectImpl, and as long as there is no SQL statement in the View Definition XML, it won't cause problem when calling the executeQueryForCollection() of the super class.
3. The override executeQueryForCollection() must call the super.executeQueryForCollection() in order to get appropriate result (I tried to skip the call and it does not give back any results)
4. The funny thing is, when I make getQuery() call in my customized ViewObjectImpl (I'm just trying to double check if the Query object is clean or not), the query object is set to "SELECT FROM" following the getQuery() call, and which causes the exceptions when I call super.exeuteQueryForCollection(). I found out later from the Javadoc API which is implemented in that way.
So I guess my case is resolved by not making specific call to setQuery(null).

How to set a Proxy Server for appletv

The network I'm on requires that I set a Proxy server to get out to the internet.
Is there anyway to specify a Proxy server for AppleTV?

The Apple TV does not support Proxy Server configuration (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305010). An alternative is to enable internet sharing on a computer and have the Apple TV connect to that computer.

Compiling STREAM module for 64-bit kernel

Hi,
I am trying to compile a STREAM module for Solaris. The results I get when I execute "isalist" and "isainfo -kv" are:
-"sparcv9+vis sparcv9 sparcv8plus+vis sparcv8plus sparcv8 sparcv8-fsmuld sparcv7 sparc"
-"64-bit sparcv9 kernel modules"
The host is a Ultra5_10 with SunOS 5.7 sun4u sparc.
First I tried to compile the module with gcc 2.8.1 but altough the compilation apparentelly finisihed OK I did not get to load the module. Later I read that, gcc so far does not generate binaries for 64-bit sparc.
So I installed the Sun WorkShop 5 environment (try version) and I tried to compile my sources with the following line:"cc -D_KERNEL -xarch=v9 -xcode=abs32 -xregs=no%appl -x03 -I. -I/usr/include -c mymodule.c"
but I get a huge list of errors such as:
"/usr/include/sys/thread.h/, line73:warning: volatile is a keyworkd in
ANSI C"
"/usr/include/sys/thread.h/, line 73:sintax error before or at:volatile"
so if I compile adding the directire "-D_ASM" to the previous line, the list of errors descreases to 2 lines:
"/usr/include/sys/kstat.h, line 52: sintax error before or at: hrtime_t"
"/usr/include/sys/kstat.h, line 52: cannot recover from previous errors".
I have also tried adding directives such as: -D_LP64 -D__sparcv9 -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE, -D_XOPEN_SOURCE but I do not get to compile it successfully.
Could someone be so kind to give me a clue of what I am doing wrong, and what should I do in order to compile it??.
The header files I have included right now in my ".c" are:

#include <sys/kmem.h>

But this is because the environment it is taken the /usr/ucbinclude as default include path instead of the "/usr/include". �which one should I consider?.

Maybe a file I can edit that says to run the Garmin stuff in 32-bit mode?
Right or control click the Garmin application (or utility) then click: Get Info
In the Get Info window under the General tab, if it can be enabled you should see:
Open in 32-bit mode.
Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) shows all apps running in 64 bit. If it doesn't have 64 bit under Kind on the right, then it's running in 32 bit mode.
