Alternative to Aperture that handles transparency?

I have Aperture 2 and still use it a lot for handling photos.
I have started doing a lot of website work, so I'm doing graphics editin and design. It helps a lot to have some kind of tool for managing all of the graphics files and their versions.
Aperture at first seemed ideal, with its versioning handling originals, plus my edits like faded headers, custom sizing, watermarks, etc.
The first issue is that it doesn't seem to want to use PNG, and forces my external image editor to use TIFF or PSD. I can deal with that but Aperture does not seem to handle transparency. It cannot display it, and it seems only by virtue of leaving it alone preserves it at all.
This is unfortunate because otherwise I found using Aperture for non-photo image work very workable.
So... I am looking for software to help me manage my graphics work.
I thought maybe other Aperture users had run into the same issues.
The only requirements are:
- needs to allow reference storage if possible
- preserve and understand (display) transparency
- allow me to store in my desired image formats
- allow external editor to use what it wants, or at least offer PNG
- non-destructive editing
I'm also open to ways to get around the Aperture limitations, but I spent a good bit of time on this and I don't think it can. Not being able to easily see transparency in the app makes workflow harder.

I loved Aperture, and used it from version 1, but the lack of significant upgrades sinnce version 3 was released, better RAW processing and better Noise Reduction, to name just two 'wants', forced me to look at Lightroom 4.
I got an offer from Adobe when I upgraded my Photoshop CS5 to CS6 to get lightroom for 50% off, so I thought I'd try it, see what the competition is doing.
Aperture does some things better than Lightroom 4, but Lightroom 4 did some things better than Aperture. Lightroom 5 now does everything I need and more, combined with OnOne Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 plug ins for both Aperture, Lightroom, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or as stand alone apps, I rarely have to go into Photoshop CS6 any more.
Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 is available as an Aperture and Lightroom plug in package only, at a reduced price to the stand alone (Premium Edition with full Photoshop support).
PhaseOne have Capture One Pro 7 available, which now integrates a cataloguing feature (Phase One bought iView Media some time ago, if memory serves correctly) which has been integrated in version 7. I don't know how well that works as I haven't upgraded from version 6.

I don't work for PhaseOne, OnOne, Adobe nor Apple, so have nothing to gain from suggesting their offerings. At present, Lightroom 5 with Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 is pretty much sorting through my workflow needs.
What I prefer about Lightroom 5 to Aperture is the RAW processing is superior to Aperture and the ability to import all the images from my external storage without the need to import the actual files into the catalogue, a virtual copy is made and so any edits are non destructive. When you output the finished image, the edits are aapplied to the full sized file, which from a D800 are huge!

In other words, getConnection inspects the provided database URL and tries to find a driver that can handle the URL.
I've had no problems with a program that uses bothe Oracle and MySQL at the same time, alternately reading from one and writing to the other.

Many brush and artistic filters don't handle transparent pixels

I had made some text, then rasterized it and I was going to apply the sprayed stroke filter to rough it up, but it doesn't do anything. Seems this filter (and several others) can't alter a layer's alpha (transparency) channel. Is that supposed to be the case? I would've expected it to treat the alpha channel the same as the color channels. I don't have the channel transparency locked. There are workarounds for this, but I wondered if maybe anybody else had encountered this and knows if I'm doing something wrong.

Yeah, a lot of the older artistic filters don't handle transparency, or CMYK, or 16 bit/channel, etc.

I waste a lot of time entering information because you can't go to a specific day and enter information, nor can you navigate between months and add information on a specific date by clicking on the date. You can't easily scroll month-to-month and once you do by scrolling through nine months to get to where you want to be, you cannot enter information by clicking on a specific day in the month and entering information. I just called Apple and they verified that this is the way it works. You cannot go to a date and enter information, you keep getting thrown back to today and then you have to go into the calendar and change it manually on the screen. It is just not efficient.

Can anyone recommend a calendar app that handles multiple Google calendars in a single account, including one of what Google's desktop web site shows as "My calendar" calendar plus one "Other calendar" calendar?

Calendar can have two or more calendars calendars listed at the same time.
Each can be a different color for identifidation.
The first screenshot shows that the Medical and Joint calendars are shared calendars.
Will that work for you?

Email app that handles digests well?

I do volunteer technical support on several software and hardware products that send email digests (a standard feature of internet email). The installed app doesn't handle them at all well. Webmail is better, but also not great. Does anyone know of an Android app that handles digests well?

The Gmail app works fairly well if you are using a gmail address. It will navigate the digest using links in the email
K9 formats the emails pretty good but the links don't work for navigating the digest.

I always have to chuckle at this question. Aperture introduced a much, much more sophisticated tool, Highlights and Shadows, in Aperture 2, if not 1.5. Now that Lightroom has finally caught up, everyone thinks that it is something new.

Bottom line, Highlights and Shadows can do much more than "Fill Light." And, in any case, Lightroom 4 dropped "Fill Light" for ... "Highlights and Shadows."
If you want a brute force "Fill Light", try some of these:

Same issue on my wife's iPhone 4S. I suspect it is related to the recent 6.1.2 iOS update (Note: I have a 3S and the update did not cause any issues).
I've tested both bottom and top mics on the 4S using video recorder and both mics work fine. Speakerphone and headset during calls also work fine. The issue is only related to the bottom mic while making calls. I can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear me. If I hold the mic very close to my mouth, the caller can hear a very low level signal.
The problem appears to be software related, not hardware.

After tokenizing, token 1 is abc, and token 2 is bcc="xxx yyy".
The tokenizer should ignore white characters between quotes.

I expect that I can make something cleaner if I had a better understanding of your expected input, but this works with what I know.
The bottom loop looks for start & end quotation marks and pastes the elements together that the first loop shouldn't have (based on your requirement) taken apart.

I moved my Masters, now how can I tell Aperture that my photos have moved?

I just purchased Aperture, and wanted to import my iPhoto photos into Aperture. However, there was not nearly enough hard drive space on my MacBook, so I copied the iPhoto photos onto an external hard drive, and then imported the photos from the external drive into Aperture, keeping the masters on the external. So far, so good. Now I disconnect the external hard drive from my MacBook and attach it to my AirPort, thinking that I would be able to mount the external over my network and Aperture would see that the maters were now on the networked drive. However, now Aperture is saying that it cannot find my master images. So my question is, how can I tell Aperture that my photos have moved? I thought about the relocate master menu item, but I can't to that because I am not actually relocating the images, I am relocating the drive that the images are stored on. Any help would be most appreciated

How to handle transparent parts of layers in filter plugin?

What is the right way to handle layers in a filter plugin so as to preserve the colors at the semi-transparent edges of the opaque parts of a layer?
It seems the inData my plugin gets from Photoshop already has the image composited (based on the alpha channel) with a white background. So even if I just copy all the RGB and alpha data from inData back to outData, I end up with light-colored edges around the non-transparent parts of the layer. Simply setting inHiPlane=outHiPlane=3 (since all I really want to modify is the RGB data) doesn't seem to work either.

I'm not sure what you mean by treating it as if there was no transparency. Simply copying the RGBA planes from inData to outData results in those light-colored edges. Likewise if I set inHiPlane=outHiPlane=3 and just copy the RGB planes.
Can you tell me how to specify how the data should be matted? It seems to default to a white matte. Ideally, I would have thought I'd want to get from inData the color value at each pixel in the layer _before_ any matting is applied, along with the alpha values. Then for example, a red pixel at the edge that's 50% transparent would be RGBA = (255, 0, 0, 127). It seems like that's what my plugin needs to hand back to Photoshop (when I don't modify that pixel), in order for it to be able to correctly matte it against any background. Instead, what I get from inData is (255, 127, 127, 127), which then shows up when I hand it back as a pink pixel of 50% transparency on the edge. Can you tell me what I'm missing here?
