Alternative to Direct Recording

I have recently purchased a computer that, unfortunately, has
Windows Vista and a RealTek sound card. My microphone will not
record my voice on my slides. I understand this is a common problem
and that Adobe is working on a solution. In the meantime, I read
somewhere that it is possible to record the voiceovers separately
and then import them into my presentations. Do you have any
suggestions on programs that will do this? Someone at work said I
could do this on a program built-in to Vista, but then Id have to
convert those files to another file type, and that sometimes the
sound quality is lost. That doesnt sound like an ideal solution to
me. I would appreciate any suggestions you have.

Wrong forum for that question.

  • Direct recording into FCE 4

I record our church sevices, I use a MBP 2.4 GHZ with 4 mg Ram and 250 GB HD. I am using a Panasonice PV-GS180. Can I directly record into FCE 4. I mean no tape just directly into FCE 4.
    Thanks

Yes you can. You'll need to set Device Control to "Non-Controllable Device" and use Capture Now. I'd recommend also recording tape in each camera for back-up. Live captures can go bad.

  • Zen Neeon direct record in WAV form

    Hi everyone,
I'm looking at buying the Zen Neeon 2. I want to use the Direct Recording to record straight from, say a CD player into the Neeon. But I want to record in WAV format at 6 bit, 44.k (full CD quality). I've read through the manual and it's not clear.
Does anyone out there know that it will defintely reord direct in full quality WAV format?
    Thanks, I'd appreciate any help.

  • Directly recording from Panasonic NV-GS200

    HELP!
I would like to directly record on to the harddisk (iMovie 5) of my powerbook.
I've got a Panasonic NV-GS200 and was told that I would need
    a) to connect camcoder to powerbook with a firewire cable ( 4 to 6 port),
    b) to leave my camcoder connected to the main power supply and
    c) not to insert a tape.
Is this correct? Anything else I have to be aware of?
I need the video recordings for my research project and they have to be of impecable quality!
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Anouschka
You may be have a point here and I may be generalized a bit to much.
I don't have Your type of Camera but a SONY TRV900E and it's way to
behave often apply on other Cameras.
I tested: Connected my Camera to my Mac and started iMovie
put my Camera in Camera mode (not VTR-mode). Now I get a live picture
    in the import window.
Now I press recording button on Camera + Import in iMovie and it did
start recording on tape + importing simultaniously.
But may be I'm just lucky that it worked. I've used this method but the
S-VHS out instead of FW when recording a church play and they made a
live editing simultaniously. Was a very effective way to get a master tape and
still have backup-material from all three cameras to make an even better
    end-product.

  • Can Premier Pro CS6 directly record 12 hour duration DV video?

I have a question before I invest in Premier Pro CS6.
Can you record continuous DV video directly into Premiere Pro CS6?
This is my task and my current method: I record all night video from an analog Watec camera that passes through a Canopus analog to digital converter and the DV stream then feeds into a Mac running iMovie 6. iMovie 6 records continuous 2 GB clips through the night. At the end of the night then I have an iMovie project that is about 140 GB comprised of individual 2 GB files.
Can Premier Pro CS6 do this task?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
    Thomas

When I tried recording all night using iMovie 9 ( or whatever post iMovie 6 version)  with my 2007 iMac it had a tendency to crash at some point in the night.
I have run iMovie 6 nightly for the past six years with hardly ever a glitch.  If it did glitch then the recorded 2 GB files would at least be available in recovery.
That is just my experience but I am getting ready to get a new iMac which may be better able to record a 140 GB single file.

  • Which video cameras directly record ProRes?

I've gotten very used to recording directly to ProRes while tethered.
I'd like to find a CCD (to avoid rolling shutter) camera that records ProRes 422 directly at 1920 x 1080, and is not interpolated up from some lesser resolution sensors.
Or, is the solution to just find the best camera I can afford, and record tethered to something like the AJA KiPro (which would certainly reduce the $$ available for a camera)

Yes, I'd noticed that plug-in before, and I do use After Effects.
They ran a 2 for 1 pricing a little while back. I sent them an email and never got a response.
Would be interesting to find some independent reviews - and figure out which cameras it would work well with.
I'd expect there's quite a bit of difference in the CMOS sensors, and the annoying thing is that there's no reason they could not build a CMOS sensor that did not have this problem (except for increased power and expense issues).
I believe there's extensive discussion on the Synth Eyes forum about rolling shutter (as their 3d motion tracking gets thrown off by it).

  • Can I record vocals directly into Logic Pro X with my Tascam DR 680?

I'm connecting via the USB port on the Tascam. I opened up my "Devices" list under "Preferences" in Logic but it doesn't seem to be registering. I thought there might be a driver out there or some other way to make this work.
If anybody has any suggestions I will be greatly in your debt.
    -Josh

Hi Jos, you can't interface the Tascam DR 680 like that (USB) to the Mac I think. It's not an audio interface but a more ore less dedicated stand alone recording/playback  unit. You could try importing the audio data into Logic, but as far as direct recording via usb goes….. I don't think so.
A rather clumsy way to achieve your objective, if you must, would be a signal flow like that:
mic -> Tascam DR 680 -> Tascam OUT (digital/analog) -> audio interface / mac  (digital/analog) IN -> rec in Logic

  • Recording direct to hard drive.

Note: I did search the archives first.
How can I record video direct from a camera to the hard drive? I have both iMovie 08 and iMovie HD 06. Assuming that I can does a miniDV tape (in my case) still need to be used in the camera?
    Thank you.

Hi Geoff - you will probably find that to establish the connection between your camera and iMovie, you will need to have a tape temporarily installed. Once connection has been made, the tape can be removed and the direct recording can then proceed.

  • Recording narration on tape - extracting audio only - workflow suggestions?

I have a bunch of students who are recording their narration tracks onto tape via a camcorder.
What is the best workflow to get these clips with audio only into iMovie 08?
Presently, we are capturing all the clips iMovie 08, then using Movie Tools Convert to AIFF droplet, dragging the aiff's into iTunes and accessing them in iMovie from iTunes.
Alternative suggestions? There are lots of narration clips and lots of students working in a noisy computer lab, so direct recording is really not a good choice here.
Don't have QTPro on the computers.
If I'm doing the CMD+Shift drag technique correctly, you must drop the clip ONTO an existing clip to get the audio separated from the video.
There is no way to extract the audio any other way in iMovie 08?
Is the better workflow to install iMovie 06 and use it's Extract Audio feature?
There would still be several steps to getting the extracted tracks into iMovie 08.
thanks for any suggestions or pointers

the 'Export with Quicktime..' option allows you to choose 'Aiff' as option.. that exports the audio-only of any project..
so, one option of workflow is: import camcorder-narrations into an Event, create Project, Export As Aiff, (process in Garageband), and the usage of iTunes is in my opinion a very clever way.. (using Playlist to organize audio before usage in iM) ..
another way is, to do all audio work in Garageband.. which is the intended workflow in iLife08.. edit in iM08, 'share', and do all audio in GB ..
consider to install iMHD6 on one computer as 'audio workstation': import tapes into an iMHD6 project, Export as Aiff, share those audio files to other Macs (LAN, usb sticks) - a good naming scheme is of paramount importance
.. There would still be several steps to getting the extracted tracks into iMovie 08.
    basicly: yes.

  • How to load unicode data files with fixed records lengths?

    INTO TABLE STG_UNICODE
    TRUNCATE

Implementing these two alternatives in OWB, I encounter the following problems:
    * How to specify LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR?
    * How to suppress the POSITION definition?
    * How to define a flat file with variable length and how to specify the number of bytes containing the length definition?
Or is there another way that can be implemented using OWB?
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

    Hi Carsten
If you need to support the LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR clause in an external table then one option is to use the unbound external table and capture the access parameters manually. To create an unbound external table you can skip the selection of a base file in the external table wizard. Then when the external table is edited you will get an Access Parameters tab where you can define the parameters. In 11gR2 the File to Oracle external table can also add this clause via an option.
    Cheers

  • Recording From wave source in Sonar 4

I am trying to mix down several tracks of audio in Sonar 4 into one track. When I select "wave" as the recording source and try to record, nothing records.
Upon further investigation, it seems that the output from Sonar is NOT wave, because when i mute the 'Wave' section in the Surround Mixer, there is no effect on what is being played. I however, cannot find the source actually is, so the only alternative is to record using "What You Hear" which is NOT an ideal option for me.
Anyone else have this problem? Do you know how to make it so the output from Sonar comes from the Wave output.
I have an Audigy 2 ZS card.

    Depending on, what you're doing:
    - you can use the "Bounce To Tracks" -option instead of trying with recording?
    - if this the final producing step you're doing, the Export -function combines all selected tracks into one file (so you can also export those tracks you want and then import back to Sonar).
See isntructions from Sonar manual (help).

  • Way to record straight from DV camcorder?

Is there a way to record directly from a DV-camcorder? If there is, how? I'm using a Panasonic PV-DC252. I want to directly record from my camcorder as I don't want to use tapes to record my videos.
    Please Help! Thanks!

No Klaus, I don't believe that a 4 pin firewire will fit into a six pin socket. Correct about the scart plug though.
We are slowly drifting away from the original question which I believe revolves around the change that has been made so that ALL cameras plugged in no longer are "recognised" as cameras. If this continues we will in the future be buying lightbulbs which do not work since they are not fitted with the chip that allows the current to flow. Just how far does the innocent consumer let himself get ripped off before he takes to doing the same amount of damage to the companies who are continually swindeling away his limited resources? My trust is day for day dwindling as I see through more of their methods of increasing revenues.
Or can someone show me that I am dreaming?

  • Recording with Garageband for IOS

I wanted to share a recording or two using the ipad so that people could see that garageband for IOS doesn't suck.  I didn't spend too much time throwing them together, but at the same time they're not too horrible either. They give a pretty decent idea of what a 1st gen ipad with a 5 dollar app is capable of in regards to guitar and shred-type guitar stuff. I'm kind of sick of reading and listening to scathing reviews on how the ipad and Garageband in particular is for non-musicians and noobs who want to sound like they're making music... (ooo that could describe me... yikes!) If I could have had an ipad-like device when I was just getting started, I think that I would be a much better player today. I am totally blown away at the expectations people have of a 5 dollar program, when they haven't spent the time trying to see what it does do well. Anyways, here's hoping that this post helps people out that are trying to find out what the capabilities of an ipad with GB are, especially if they are a guitarist. At the end of the day, it is still the person using the device that either makes it sound horrible, mediocre or amazing...
So anyways, I decided to make a quick track where I didn't spend too much time on the music, and I used only what was in GB in regards to my tones and stuff; That means all stock amp and pedal combinations. I also wanted a track that focused on guitar parts, and making the best of what the app has to offer. I'm sure with some tweaking and mucking around there could be some much cooler tones generated, but hey... it is what it is. Also, I used a Godin LGXT direct into the ipad with an Apogee Jam. Very inexpensive. Bass and drums were recorded with the Line6 Mobile25. The tablet's screen works too, but I find that the keyboard is a lot more accurate, especially for drums. Obviously, you could go into the drum and guitar parts and edit and tweak the parts further, creating drum parts that feel and sound a bit more lifelike, but I didn't do that here; this one was about direct recorded electric guitar...
    https://soundcloud.com/jayesskerr/ipadgination
Arguably, you could also record your stuff via microphones also. In this case I used a Roland VS880 as a mixer (It was handy), with 4 CAD microphones connected to it to capture my drum kit. (I'm not much of a drummer, but you get the idea...) I then just lined out of the VS880 into the apogee Jam into the ipad. BANG! This app could work very easily for drummers also... or people who must have their tone and not a digital preset...
    https://soundcloud.com/jayesskerr/just-drums
    I own a couple of good mac boxes loaded with killer software, and I also have some decent interfaces. They are pretty superior in regards to the amount of options that they present, without a doubt. And then when you include all of the 3rd party plugins and loops and stuff that you can get... well, it's very, very nice. The ipad intrigued me because it's self contained, and is extremely portable. It has limitations which force one to be kind of clever in order to work around them. Also, the recording process with an ipad is very, very quick. Setup time is minimal.  So anyways, with just Garageband, and an Apogee Jam (I have the irig connector also, but in my opinion the Jam is so much superior...). The only other thing I'd reccomend is the Line6 Mobilekeys25 which I used here; MUCH easier to enter notes in on bass and drums. Here's some points to sum up my opinions on my experience with the device;
No it's not better than Logic or Cubase or prottols or something with an interface. It's only a 5 dollar app on a 600 dollar tablet (In my case an outdated 1st generation ipad).
There's only 8 tracks, but you can bounce and merge.
The amount of sections is limited, but you can work around that too...
It's extremely portable. Way less gear to haul and set up, but feel free to use your own stuff with it also...
GB on a tablet is very, very easy to learn. Super intuitive and quick to use.
The amount of sections is limited, but again you could always just make another song project and then stitch it together later...
The amp and pedal emulations aren't as good as Guitar Rig, a line6 Pod Pro hd, or a FAS Axe-FXII. But they aren't horrible, they are certainly pretty good for the price of 5 bucks...
If you're broke/poor and want to get into recording and sharing your music, this is the ideal way to go about it. Your recording device (The ipad) also makes documents, does email, takes and edits pictures, takes and edits video... The only thing standing in the way of you sounding great is you...
The 'merge track' option is a powerful tool, especially on your midi tracks.
No pitch correction. Waaaaaahhh boo hoo! You're gonna have to learn how to sing. Plus, it's only 5 bucks!
Don't want to use the internal drum sounds? Or want to use your amp's miced sound? Get a small mixer, and connect your mic to that. Then connect the mic to the Apogee Jam (There are other products out there that work better and in stereo, but this would do in a pinch) and you should be good to go.
I recommend using a small keyboard like the Line6 Mobile Keys 25 to enter your midi/virtual instruments stuff in. For me, using just the pad means more track editing after I enter it...
The last point is this; there's other software besides just GB. Cubasis anyone?
Anyways, thanks for checking this out, I hope that it helps, and if anyone else has any opposing viewpoints or points to add, please do.

  • Recording my gameplay on minecraft

I want my parents to buy me something that will allow me to record my gameplay and voice and post it on YouTube. How do I do that?!

Make sure to also get a microphone for recording your voice. If you want quality, I'd recommend one by Razer or Astro, but as long as it has USB instead of a headphone jack to hook into the computer, you'll be good to go.
As far as recording goes, FRAPS is the best way to directly record your gameplay. If you wanted to have visual overlays or other features like what you can see on live streams, you can use some indirect recording software that records what's on the screen rather than what is in the game. Similar result, but you'll need a better computer. The software that was recommended to me by some awesome streamers was OBS, or Open Broadcasting Software. Again, you'll need a much better computer, but it gives you more to work with.

  • Data record with pause in the middle

    hello
    i'm using labview 8.6
i'm trying to make a code that will allow me to record an analog output channel (of DAQ 6259).
my problem is that i need to record the channel alternately (for example record for 30msec stop for 200msec record for 10msec stop for 50msec and so on), and i cant have any delays between my record/stop command and the execution of the command (at least not from the recorded data point of view).
i tried to enter the data to an array inside a while loop and my while loop is inside a case that choose if it's record time or pause time.
the problem is that if i do that the loop control is not that efficient and the data is not sequential.
does anyone have any idea how can i do this correct?

I would recommend implementing your data collection inside a state machine. This would give you the flexibility to control your data collection in any way you want and allow you to extend your control in the future. I would avoid using sequence frames to control your operations.
