Alternative to iDVD

Dear Friends
I have a ibook G3. I have bought a external DVD burner for it.
I have made some films on iMovie that I have exported to Toast Titanium for burning, but I don't like how it handles menus and buttons. Do you know by chance a nice alternative to iDVD that I can't install into my ibook, that features the same DVD structure capacities?
Best
Pedro

Hello Pedro,
Have a look around in Here
Some free, some shareware. All pretty good. Personal preference me thinks!
Hope that helps some

Whats the best alternative to idvd for burning a disk with pics to play in a dvd player? I don't want to deal with older versions of ilife.

Whats the best alternative to idvd for burning a disk
In my opinion, there are none.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • Alternatives to iDVD with longer content

I have a tutorial file that I downloaded from a 3D site and would like to burn it to a DVD that I can watch on my TV (or a portable player). It is 2 hours long, and when I brought it into iDVD (3.0), it said it was longer than the 90 minute limit.
Is there a simple alternative out there for burning a DVD movie besides iDVD that will play in a standard player?
    Thanks!

  • What is a good free alternative to iDVD?

I want something that will easily allow me to burn home movies to dvd.

I bought an IMac a few weeks ago, created a slideshow on IPhoto only to learn that there was no IDVD to burn it. It is available on ILife11 but if you have just spent a considerable ammount of money on your Mac, why then should you have to spend yet more of your hard earned cash on a DVD burning program, especially when you have 3 of the 5 apps that come with ILife11 already?
I called Apple Support, spoke to an advisor who was understanding but really just tells you that it isn't shipped with Lion OS anymore. You then have to insist, politely, of course, to speak to a senior advisor, (if the advisor himself isn't compassionate enough to suggest that himself).
If you can, request a 'callback' where they call you (they pay the call charges), air your grievances calmly & you should receive a free hard copy of ILife 11. The standard Apple support advisor won't have the authority to grant you anything more than a compassionate ear so you must speak to a senoir advisor. I received my free copy of ILife11 in the post a week later. It worked for me, it has worked for others so it should work for you.
Good luck, keep calm & maintain your creativity!

  • Alternative to iDVD that isn't a fortune?

Quick question--and no need to get into WHY--but anyone know of a reliable DVD authoring program other than iDVD that doesn't cost too much?

    define 'authoring' ...
Toast allows 'dv' imports and create menus and videoDVDs... (when you own, why not reading the manual....?); afaik, the latest version even allows customized menus....
Sizzle allows to lay out structures with a grafical interface....
VisualHub too creates videoDVDs from 'video' input...
    Burn is very reduced ...
... if you give us a little more info, what you try to accomplish, answers could be more precise... and: why not searching the apps, I mentioned at sites as versiontrackers and read the infos...?
when you don't like to spend money for a programmer's skills, the more you are in charge to help yourself.. ;))

  • HT1338 What has happened to IDvd, a friend of mine purchased a Mac Pro, he asked me how to burn a dvd from IMovie, his pro mac does not have IDVD to download to, only a dvd player setting, how do you burn a IMovie project now, before you went through IDVD

A friend bought a Mac Pro, I want to also, he cannot download a project movie from Imovie to IDvd, because I Dvd is not downloaded on his $3000.00 new computer, what has apple done, how do you download & burn a movie project from Imovie if you do not have IDvd software, all previous systems had IDvd on them to do this. What is going on and how do you burn now.

An alternative to iDVD - miDVD which I believe you can get from the App Store for free!

  • What to use instead of iDVD?

I have home VHS transferred to DVDs through a store.  I was told I could make copies for family.  Can I do this just by inserting it in my iMac w/ Yosemite?  (steps please, I don't want to mess up the only disk w/ home movies.  The file has the Video_TS.VOB.  I started to convert to MPEG-4 in order to import to iMovie... not working, stuck optimizing for hours, but iDVD just drops in and does fine, but this is still multiple steps.  Handbreak to convert, iDVD to burn but not much editing options)
Previously I've made dvd's w/ iMovie 9 & 11 + iDVD for the cool themes.  I still have these (went back to iMovie 9 for easier export into iDVD).  But I was wondering what is the NEW-Fun-Friendliest way to create: import, edit, (conversion, themes, titles, trim, music, burn) since iDVD doesn't even come w/ new Macs?
I also have Adobe Premier Elements 10... just get overwhelmed and bogged down in Photoshop Elements so I've always stayed away from trying to learn Premier.  Realistic/ Affordable suggestions would be great IF apple doesn't have these things built in Yosemite somewhere?!  Thanks!

iDVD Is a tool for creating DVDs.  There is no substitute or alternative to iDVD.
However, it sounds like your DVD is already made and you just want to make copies.  If that is true, the Mac OS system utilities can do this for you.
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list Select the disc (not just the disc session) you want to copy from the listing on the left.    (Select the DVD/CD icon on top.)
    3. From the File menu, choose New and then choose Image from "your disk name").
    4. Enter a file name and choose "DVD/CD Master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.
    5.   Click the Create/Save button. After the image has been created (you will get a .cdr file) you should see it in the disk listing in the Disk Utility window.
    6.   Eject the DVD disc.
(If you wish to make a DVD from this file, continue with the steps below.)
    7.   Select the disk image you created from the listing.
    8.   Click the Burn icon in the toolbar.
    9.   When prompted, insert a blank DVD disc.
    10.  Click the Burn button.

  • IDVD and Mountain Lion...again

Sorry to bring this up again, but I have been unable to find a solution elsewhere in the forum.
Just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro for my wife (Mountain Lion already installed), and also upgraded the OS in my 17" MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion.  Of course, iDVD has disappeared.  Are there workable alternatives to iDVD?  Is iDVD that is compatible with Mountain Lion available somewhere?  I (like so many others) have a need to be able to burn DVDs and am at a loss as to what to do next.
    Advice, please!

OK, I understand your dilemma. For what it's worth, iDVD version 7 still works with Mountain Lion.
You have to buy it from an aftermarket vendor, but the price is still fairly reasonable. Here is one source:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/
iLife 09 (and I have heard, though not personally confirmed, iLife 08) contains the same version of iDVD. They may be slightly less expensive.
When you get the disc, install only the iDVD app, then upgrade it here:
    iDVD 7.1.2
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1414
I also seem to recall hearing that Mountain Lion may object to iDVD having "expired" and will refuse to install it. I cannot find that post at the moment, but I recall the solution was to set your Mac's clock back a year or so and try again.

  • IDVD slow on Macmini4,1

I am running a Mac Mini (Macmini4,1) with 8GB RAM, Snow Leopard 10.6.8
What I have noticed is when I bring up a new project in iDVD 7.2.1, the 7.1 themes are slow and or laggy.  When I try and create a disk image of the movie, the CPU is being heavily hit.
    1.  What are system requirements for iDVD?
    2.  Will my generation of Mac Mini (and itsRAM) support iDVD 7.2.1? - rending wise, and just use of the application itself.
    3.  If my system doesn't meet the minium requirements, are there alternatives to iDVD that will run on my machine?
    Thanks,

For your issue I recommend activating the Push/Fetch feature for email, your iPad will periodically check for email every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or every hour. You can find this feature by going into Settings, and then to Mail.
And yes, the iPad 2 would be quicker downloading emails due to higher RAM and quicker processing speed, but try my solution above first.

  • IDVD alternate

Whatis a good alternative to iDVD since apple discontinued on iLife'11 .  Very disappointed it is not available

    Hi
There are two structures of DVDs
    • Data-DVD - as burned from DeskTop/Finder
    • Video-DVD - to be played on a DVD-Player - Needs a program that can do this
One can in iMovie - Export as QuickTime .mov and save this via DeskTop/Finder onto a DVD - BUT this will only play on a Computer and if it is a Window-PC this needs to download QT-player or VLC-player.
But no DVD-player for TV can play back this.
To get a Video-DVD then You need
    • iDVD (not from Apple any more) - or -
    • DVD Studio Pro (not from Apple any more) - or -
    • FinalCut Pro-X (can do simple Video-DVDs) - or -
    • Burn - http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html - FREE - but very PLAIN - no fancy things at all.
    • Roxio Toast™ 11 Pro - Fairly advanced - and costs a bit - still very Good and lot's of great tool's included. (I love it) - Can also back convert home made DVDs to an editable mode in an OK quality. With BD-component also capable to do sort of Blu-Ray DVDs.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Yours Bengt W

I can't find iDvD on my Macbook Pro...running OSX Lion...how can I get it?

IDVD is sold separately.  (There are no realistic alternatives to iDVD.)
You'll find it on the iLife 11 disc. Once installed Apple's website will update it to the latest version automatically.

  • Where's can i Buy any Professional Authoring DVD for IMAC, did you know about Studio DVD pro ?

I need help, i need buy or dowload some Professional Authoring DVD for IMAC, I editing in my Final Cut Pro X and need a DVD authoring
after installing the Mavericks, my IDVD don't work, can someone help about this ?
also, did you know if DVD studio pro its available for sale ? if yes, where's can I buy  ?
    thanks

Apple discontinued DVD Studio Pro three/four years ago. You can probably find copies from private sellers, but whether it will work without problems on OS X 10.9 I don't know. I don't know of any "professional" alternative to DVDSP for Mac, but someone else here may be able to offer suggestions.
As to iDVD, it should work under Mavericks, depending on what version of iDVD you're running. You might ask for assitance in the iDVD forum. For alternatives to iDVD, see this page for suggestions:

  • Movie and video burning on the macs

Hi.  My daughter has an older 2008 MacBook 13" white.  In perfect shape, running perfectly on Snow Leopard.  IF we upgrade to Mountain Lion, will the iLife 08 with the iDVD still be there?  There is no iDVD with all newer mac systems.  No iDVD with iLife 11.  She loves that program despite the mac literate communities complaints with iDVD.
If NOT, then how does she burn videos from her iPhone to DVD and make home movies from the laptop?  What alternatives for NOVICE video creators are there on mac format?  iMovie let's you make a movie, but it is then "stuck" in the computer without iDVD...is that correct?  We do NOT use Facebook, HATE its ads, lack of security/privacy and too many "friends", and therefore will not be uploading the movies... so how do we get them onto a disc playable in a DVD player or computer drive for grandparents, and other out of state family members?
    Thank you!

I can report that iDVD 7.1.2 work well with Mountain Lion; it does occasionally throw a fit when I want to throw out the default menu song and replace it with my own, but it eventually works. I recently did a clean install and started with iLife 08 (for a particular reason: I need iMovie 08 in order to install my iMovie HD 06 .dmg supplied by Apple). I tried both iMovie and iDVD and neither worked until after I installed iLife 09. So, I assume that iLife 08 will not work with Mountain Lion.
I maintain a bootable partition with Snow Leopard so I can use a couple of older apps; I would also keep that if iDVD would be no longer be working in a future OS update - I would simply shift my video work to the Snow Leopard partition for two reasons: I prefere using the old iMovie HD  06 because it was the only version that worked losslessly (no loss of quality of video) and because there is no reasonable consumer priced alternative to iDVD.
You can try Burn (free, I believe), but it does nothing but burn. there is also Roxio Toast (which I have and use as well); it offers a few menus, but no options to customize them - it is an excellent application though. There are others - free or not - you'd have to do some research to see if you like what they have.

  • How to share iMovie

I made an iMovie that I would like to share but have been stymied as to what to do.  I tried both You Tube and Dropbox, but because it is more than 15 minutes long, ( 18.34minutes), I am unable to do so thru either You Tube/Dropbox.  Editing it to a shorter length effects the quality too much, so I would rather not do that.  I burned a DVD, but it does not work on a TV, only my mac.  IDVD is not on my share option thru iMovie.  What can I do?

Haha, I was fooled by your reference to burning a DVD.  I believe what you did was create a data DVD rather than a video DVD.  Your machine should be capable of burning a video DVD with the right software, and to do this, you could locate an older version of iDVD or use third party software such as Roxio Toast.  The computer's lack of video DVD burning capability has been extensively discussed in these forums, and it may be helpful to read discussions like this, or similar, if you'd like to create a DVD which can be viewed on a DVD player:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3966576?start=0&tstart=0
Here's more discussion of DVD creation alternatives:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2010/10/28/after-ilife-11-alternatives-to-idvd-and-iweb/
Apple's thought apparently is for you to distribute your video electronically.  Lots of options, but to use a service like Dropbox, you'd need to export your iMovie into a video format that others can open/see and which is a small enough file to be practical.  YouTube does this behind the scenes, but you're actually sending the file with Dropbox so it will be a bit more challenging.  Here's a start on downsizing your video to reduce the file size:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2281?viewlocale=en_US
YouTube does allow longer videos within certain parameters.  See:

  • How do I Purchase iDVD11?

When I upgraded to OSX Lion, iDVD simply vanishd from my computer. I just purchased iMovie off the App store and I thought that iDVD would also be installed. For some reason I cannot buy iDVD 11 from the App store. How do I purchase iDVD 11. What is the next best alternative to iDVD?.

For some reason I cannot buy iDVD 11 from the App store.
    iDVD is easy to get.
Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (It should be included.)
Some have reported that by calling Apple they are sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
Some people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $29.
