Alternative UOM in steel industry

Hi all,
We are working on steel project.
Client manufactures beam, angles etc.
All the FGs are having dimensions like height, width, thikness, length, pieces & weight
While the height, width & thikness remains same , the length & weight varies.
We have kept material master codes on height, lenght & thikness. That means set of these three will represent one code.
We are thinking to kee p unit of weight as the base UOM.
The length & pieces will be part of the batch charactristics.
Out of these two, input of the length remains same till the batch gets processed till delievery.
The probelm lies with the pieces. It will keep on changing if the weight in the batch keeps changing.
Please note that we can not set any conversion ratio between PCS & TONNES as it is not fixed.
We have tried the object dependency in the class but we are facing the problem while setting the formula.
Please help to solve this.

I am doing the same thing.
I have kept base UOM as Tonnes.
We have created material codes with the combination of height, width, thikness.
As the range of the length varies, we can not have length specific material codes.
Length would be part of the classification as one of the characteristic.
In place of density, client is having section weight, UOM for which is kilogram/meter.
Section weight, pieces & length would be characteristics.
Section weight is fixed for every material code. Length is order specific.
So the requirement is from the order quantity which is in Tonnes, system should calculate the pieces automatically with all the required data in place.
We are using object dependency in the class but it is giving us syntax error.
Kindly throw light on the same.

Hi,
No such standard report available in SAP to see for many materials. in MM03 under Additional Data, you can see but material wise.
Better use table MARM to see the same and create an ABAP Query of Report using this table.

Stock report in alternative UoM

Hi we are maintaining the stock of our FG in PCs as a base UoM . But our sales and distribution dept needs a sotck in alternative UoMs also
Eg 10 Pc = 1 Box , and 120 Box = 1 Case likewise
They needs the stock in Boxes and cases also
I have maintained conversion in Material Master , but I do not find any report which shows me these alternative UoMs
Please tell me is there any such report available

Hi Bhushan,
You will have to go in for Z report. In MB51 you can see only by movement type & also Unit of Entry & Base UoM.
In MMBE per material, you can change the UoM & see the stocks, but this will be material by material & not for a range of materials.
Read the data from MARD, MARM tables & also if you're maintaining special stocks, refer to MSPR, MCHB etc.

Mass deletion of alternative UOM conversion

I did the following way:
1. created a recording which always deletes the second line in Additional data-> uom conversions.
2. by multiply running this recording via lsmw will delete all uoms.
3. I was not able to do it at once as different materials has different numbers of alternative uom entered.

Alternative UOM in product overview(/n/sapapo/pov1)

In the product overview,we can see the product quantities in base UOM. our requirement is,we have to see Alternative UOM.
How to get this?

Dear Akthar,
you can define in /sapapo/mat1on ATB tab a "Display Unit". Here you can choose your alternative UOM and then while displaying the quantites your Alternative UOM will be used.
On PP/DS area if you want to use a particular unit of measure for certain products that is different to the base unit of measure, you must have maintained a production unit in the product master. Choose Master Data -> Product. You can maintain a production unit on the PP/DS tab page in the Units of Measure group frame.

Planing in COPA in alternative UoM

Hi all,
a question : Is it possible to plan in COPA in alternative UoM.The stock keeping unit is EA, but unfortunately the planning department wants to plan in KG. Conversion between the UoM's is maintained in Material master.The project itself is a roll-out and COPA is pre-configured. There is 2 value fields in the operating concern that can store the data for volume in those two UoM
Also I saw in TC KEDR , that a step" Clear " is customized to clear all the postings in the value field where KG volumes are posted.From conditions there i remove the our company code, but w/o any success. Whatever I have posted to the KG value field without any conversion is moved / reposted in value field for EA.
Can you help me with this.

Hi Maria
In my opinion, you should not remove the entry of your company code from KEDR
In the conditions, you should put condition as "BUKRS <> XXXX", where XXXX = your company code... This means, the derivation step will run only if the company code is Not Equal to Your company code

Here are a few scenarios which I have worked:
1.Steel is usually procured in the form of plates of different dimensions (length, width & thickness).
To capture this, you can activate material class (class 001) for material master.
You can create your own class and have these dimensions as characteristics.
While creating material codes, you can capture the dimensions as characteristic values..
This way, you can maintain the uniqueness of material codes in the system.
2. Steel is usually procured in bulk from various sources, both domestic and imports.
As such, the price of the same material may vary depending upon the source and also when it was procured.
Hence, it becomes a necessity to manage the different lots separately.
You can activate batch management in inventory or better still, Split valuation by batch to handle this.
3. If steel is procured for specific project, then the purchase requisition/purchase order will be for specific Project (WBS element).
   This means you will be working with a/c assign.categ "Q"
4. You can have Order unit that is different from base unit (Stock keeping unit.)
    you can maintain suitable conversion factors for the same.
5. While issuing steel to Production, the big steel plates may be cut into smaller pieces and issued.
    So, you can have a different unit of issue in material master along with conversion factors.
6. If your client is having tender system for procurement, then you can have the RFQ to handle this.
    You can have different loading factors to assign different weightages for vendors while maintaining Quotations.
     You can go for an enhancement to RFQ screen to capture extra fields relating to tender.
    You can have a Z form to output tender comparative statement as per client requirement.

The process will be:
If you want the material you wanna get from the vendor for the manufacting of the steel, then you can go for RFQ(request for quotations)...based on the Bids you can choose the vendor and then make the PO for the raw material...
The material which you want to procure shd have the MMR(Material master record) and for the vendor(Vendor master record)...
If you don't wanna go for the RFQ, then can also directly make a PR(Purchase requisition) and based on it you can make th PO...
Now After the PO, you can get the material and then you do goods receipt and then you pay to vendor via MIRO Invoice receipt...
This is a simple procurement process...
There could be few scnerios for the getting the finished product from the subcontractor and giving him the semi-fininshed productor...
SO here you use the subcontracting process also in the steel industry...
As the steel industry is a big industry and all the process can't compleated in the single location...SO for this you use the stock transfer/transfer posting scnerios...
For daily material req., instead of making the different Po via han, use can use the MRP process by which you can directly generate the PR//PO doc as per requirement get generated for the material...
like this there are n number of process which can be used in the steel industry also...

Information between Maint. & Prod. dept. for roll shop in a steel industry

Hi experts,
I am working in ECC6.0 SAP R/3 for a steel industry , manufacturing re-enforced bar. They have one roll shop where they repair various sizes of roll, required for shaping billets into round bar. Production people need updated information about the availability of repaired different sizes rolls and in reverse Maintenance people need updated information about the production plan including the requirement of rolls on high priority so that accordingly maintenance people can plan their repair activity on different rolls. Please note that for different sizes of finished product, different sizes of rolls being used
Also ,based on certain production qty., maintenance people wants to trigger maintenance order to take repair activity on the rolls.
Can anybody please explain how to map these two scenarios in SAP?

Hi Rajib,
    Your scenario is that in the roll shop, there are no. of rolling machines. Based on the production qty, you need to create the maintenance schedule for those rolling machines.
    First you create those rolling machines as PRTs. Assign those PRTs in the production routing. Also define the usage value for those PRTs in Routing. This part would be done by PP guys.
   Then you create the Maesuring point & Measurement plan for equipment with the counter. Assign those in the equipment master.
while making production confirmation, measurement document would be created. Once the counter reading reaches the count in plan, maintenance order will be generated automatically
   Also maintain system condition in the order or plan so that, by using user exits, we can differentiate between available & unavailable PRTs,

I have also some confusion regarding Cache Parameters . What is the importance of cache , Should we delete the cache memory time to time for each query ? I have chked it in RSRT but never use the chache monitor function .

Using Alternative UOM in transaction VA21

We want to use alternative UOM for Hydrocarbon Product during creation of a quotation using transaction VA21 and document type QT so that user can change the Alternative UOM say in KG or L15 or change the temperature and density of the material.
Grateful if anyone provides a solution.

Please solve:
In Material Master for material HSD02, Base UOM is L15 and Sales Unit is KL.
Earlier in Additional Data, 1 KL <= 1000 L15 is stored.
Now I want to chage the conversion factor as 1 KL <= 987.9 L15 or 10 KL <= 9879 L15.
Hence I wanted to delete the earlier entry with 1 KL <= 1000 L15 and tried to maintain 10 KL <= 9879 L15.
This is not allowed. On saving the change again earlier entry 1 KL <= 1000 L15 appears in Additional Data -> Unit of Measure.

Alternative UoM in HU monitor screen

Hi Expert,
I have a problem regarding the Alternative UoM in Handling Unit monitor screen (HUMO).
We use alternative UoM to manage the material in our plant. and all the material is in Handling Unit management. for example, 1bag = 13kg. when we sale it in bag unit of measure.
we can display stock with different UoM with transaction LS26. but we can not display the material in UoM "bag" in HUMO transaction.
SO the sale people need to calculate it manually and convert them to bag since we use HU manage it.
Do anyone have the same situation?

It is not possible to view alternate UOM in HUMO,another option to see th HU stock in location MMBE by giving alternate UOM.
For end user to see the stock alternative UOM then you need to write aABAP query to put some logic to show alternative UOM qty or develop a new report.

APO SNP Planning Book Show Product View alternative UoM

Hi,
I have a base UoM of BTL and an alternative UoM of CAS.
I can change/save in my users settings the in transactions /SAPAPO/RRP3 (Product View) and /SAPAPO/SDP94 (Planning Book) to show the alternative UoM CAS as default.
The problem I have is when I enter the Planning Book, load a product, right click on the product (in Selected Objects), select Show Product View and then look at the stock tab, this always shows as the base UoM BTL. Can this be saved to show the alternative UoM CAS?

Hi Linda,
Try changing you user settings for a product in RRP3 Screen.
Page Menu --> Settings -->General Tab -->General Panel -->enter AUOM value (CAS in your case).
Note - The conversion only takes place for the products, for which the alternative unit of measure entered is also entered as the alternative unit of measure in the product master, or for the products, for which the base unit of measure has the same dimension as the alternative unit of measure.
Caution: Test it , how its affecting for other products which doesnt have CAS as AUOM.
All products which have BUOM as BTL will be changed to CAS when AUOM is maintained for them in product master.

I have maintained alternative UOM in material master which I am using in pricing procedure through info records.
In the pricing if my value is coming 243000 I want to make it round off 25000.
Tell me hw it is possible thr routine or thr some customisation.
