Alternative way to backup iPod touch. ?

Ihave an iPod touch 4G that has about 3GBs of the 'other' category. I've restored and the size has went down. But in a couple days everything would add up again. I know this is corrupted data but if I keep restoring from backup the same data is put back on the iPod. I want to try and restore it again. But I don't want to loose anything. I can take care of my music , apps, and pictures. But how can I back up things like notes , mail, contacts.. Etc... * I don't want to perform a backup. I just want to find a way to transfer these things on to my computers I can restore NOT from backup. Just add everything as if the iPod was new

Notes, contacts, calendar should be restored by syncing with.turning on iCloud Contacts, Calendars and Notes.
If the mailis on your server just redownload it.

Any way of locating iPod touch by serial number?

    No, there is not.
IF you had set up find my ipod BEFORE it was lost AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi, THEN you may be able to find an apporximate street address.
    Otherwise you cannot track it.

  • Backup iPod Touch music to computer without adding it to iTunes Library

I would like to backup/copy the music and books from my Mom's iPod Touch to my computer without mixing it in with my personal library.  I basically want to move all of the iPod Touch's content to a folder on my harddrive ("Mom's iPod" or whatever).  I have already created a backup in iTunes, but it is my understanding that the iTunes backup does not back up the music or books.  Is there a way to do this?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Based on the recomendations by lllaass, I tried 2 different programs.  Both were selected because they were free:
The first program I tried was SharePod.  This decision was based on CNET & user reviews.  It worked great for moving the music from the iPod to the computer, was easy to use, and was free; however, it is limited to music (it had a photo section but it did not see the one photo on the iPod so I was not able to test the feature).  If all you need to move is music I recommend this solution.
After I realized there were eBooks on the iPod, I had to find a second program to back them up.  I used Syncios (again based on CNET & user reviews).  This also worked great for backing up the eBooks, and I was even able to backup the apps (all were free apps, but I thought I would test the feature anyway).  I did not try to backup the music because I already backed it up with SharePod, but I would imagine it will work as well as the books & apps.
**BEWARE** when installing Syncios: the reviews stated the install adds malware.  To avoid the program installing additional software, make sure to select custom install and uncheck the additional programs!

  • Trying to backup ipod touch

I finally got an iPod touch 5th generation, but I've had it a few months now and I remembered to day that I needed to setup the automatic WIFI syncing with my pc; So I plugged it into computer and was confronted with a "Welcome to your new IPod" screen. There are two options - set up as a new iPod - and restore from this backup - which there isn't any. I cant find a way past this, could I please have some help? Thanks!

Something happn3ed. You will have to either restore from backup if you have one or setup as new.
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Is there a way to fix ipod touch screen display problem with song list?

I was wondering if anybody has had this problem? I have an ipod touch 64gig 5th gen for probably about 2 years. I hardly use it because I have it as a back up ipod until primary one dies. This is the first time I came across this problem. Upon turning on device, the first artist/song list I choose displays correctly. Once I start choosing any other artist/song list afterwards, the display for the 1st artist/song list re-appears. If the song list is only a single song to 3-4 songs it will display correctly. Any other song list I choose that consist more than 5 songs, the first artist/song list re-appears on screen like the display is messed up.
For example: Upon turning on device, I choose Aaliyah with a list of 9 songs displaying.
Upon trying to select a different artist and song, for example I choose Nachtmar with a  list of 20 songs.
The Aaliyah with the list of 9 songs re appears in place of the song list I am attempting to choose. The songs play and it works, but the display is incorrect. Why is it doing this? Does anybody have this problem? I have tried resetting and it has currently been updated. I have came across this problem just very recently a couple of days ago. I have had a couple of hard resets requiring to erase all data in the past and I don't want to go that way again because I have about 3,500 songs. I have never experience this problem before in the past. I just want it to display the current list of songs. It's inconvenient having to type in every song while playing in the car instead of being able to easily pick an individual song.

I have this problem too and it drives me crazy. When I view my ipod, I don't want to see a list of the first 8 songs in my ipod library. I just want to see the current song playing. It's like the ipod display goes into some type of "sleep" mode while your music plays, and the display defaults to show the first few songs in your ipod touch library, even though none of those songs are currently being played. I have to take the time to either flip the ipod over a couple of times in order for that list to disappear just to see the current song playing.
This is an example of what I see on my display after the current song begins playing. These are the first songs in my ipod library. To get rid of this view, I have to either shake the ipod or flip it over a couple of times and the current song is now displayed, allowing you to see the current song, also allowing you access to the arrows to either fast forward or playback/reverse. On the display, the songs are in a grid or table format (unable to show that here).

  • Is there any way to use iPod touch with Win2000/SP4?

Got an iPod touch for christmas... very cool. It doesn't synch with my computer... not so cool.
The information I've found - compatibility chart at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971 - suggests that I'm SOL with Win2000 - it appears that I can't upgrade past iTunes 7.3 whereas 7.4 seems to be required for the Touch. Are there any hacks our ways around this, or am I just going to have to suck it up...? I don't like using sketchy pirated OS's but I'm not real excited about going out and buying a new OS either.

There is no way for you to use iTunes with Win2K and the Touch. You can use 3rd party software, WinAmp, with a plug-in: http://www.winamp.com/ but this will not let you download upgrades and purchase 3rd party software for the Touch when it becomes available.

  • Any alternatives to iTunes for iPod Touch

    Hi all,
I too am experiencing the same no-launch issue with the new iTunes (no errors, no missing files, QT works fine and I know a lot about computer so this is APPLE'S PROBLEM).
Even aside from this, I have a bigger issue when iTunes does run. I'm a paying customer to Apple many times over (iPod Classic 40GB, iPod Nano, MacBook Pro, and now iPod Touch). Here's my problem:
I have a network at home where the file server is running Windows XP Pro. The network works fine for everything... web, streaming HD videos to my media receivers, streaming music, etc. But *_iTunes is DOG SLOW_* accessing my music which resides on the file server... something like 100,000 tracks in over 500 GB. Yes, the library is huge, but I convert old music from records and tapes into high bitrate MP3 as well as rip CD's and what not.
Previously on the iPod Classic and Nano (which I still have), I've used MediaMonkey, a music player/manager for Windows that's extremely fast and had absolutely no problems accessing the networked music library. It will even sync my music to those 2 ipods. But with the new iPod Touch, I'm forced back to iTunes. I only use iTunes to maintain my iPods. I could care less about the music store... never bought anything and never will... *_Amazon's DRM-free MP3_* is better if I do go that route.
So, is it too much to ask Apple to come up with a simple utility so I can just load my music into my iPod Touch? Something where I can just drag a bunch of files/folders into my iPod? I'm more than happy to manage the music on my iPod manually... I just want something that works and works well. *_iTunes for such a large collection absolutely scuks balls_*. Leveling volume... takes forever. Gapless playback... forever. Updating album art... forever and a day. There used to be a utility like this (still is for older iPod's) called *_Anapod Explorer_* that worked just like this and worked very well. But alas, it won't work with the newer and updated iPods because Apple for some **** reason would change the internal database format. I mean come on... I paid $400 for this iPod and many times over for other Apple products.
Can't I get something that just works? Please!

    Welcome to the discussions,
    did you try http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473:
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    Mac
    Add to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
If you did the backup using iTunes, did you follow this article to restore the library? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382

  • Can't Backup iPod Touch 3rd Gen

In trying to update to OS4.2 and now OS 4.3 (for a month now), I have not been successful because my 3rd generation iPod Touch will not backup. It starts the process of saving the backup file to "Mobile Backups" in the Library for iTunes, but once the status bar completes, there is no file there and my update never occurs - the backup folder is empty. I have tried using other accounts and other Macs, but it never saves the backup. There are no error messages. The process of going through the backup takes 24 hours, but nothing is ever saved. There is plenty of room on the hard drive as well. Any work-arounds, or should I try to "restore?"
    Thanks!

Ah! Yes there is! Thank you!
My last attempt to backup I stopped after 24 hours, as it only indicated about 5% complete. From that "failed" or "stopped" backup, based on the date and the time on the files in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/, it stopped backing up after only 2 hours into the backup. There were 2,066 files that were created and the last things altered at that time were the info, status and manifest preferences (.plist)
I had been looking in ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Backups/ as that was where I mistakenly thought it went.
The question now is still - how do I upgrade the operating system, as iTunes still tries to backup (and fails to upgrade) each time I try.

  • Is there a way to reset iPod touch 4th gen without the sleep/wake button?

Hey everyone! My iPod touch 4th gen power button is jammed into the iPod itself. This is obviously a big issue, but is not the main point of this post. My iPod has been laggy and slow, so I need to reset it. (NOT restore, but slide to power off; press and hold home+power for 10 seconds) is there a way for me to do this without my sleep/wake button.
    Thanks in advance.

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices

  • Can't manually backup iPod touch

I have a 64GB iPod touch 3rd gen, a while ago I could right click on my iPod in iTunes and there were all the normal possibilities like sync, transfer purchases, and backup. Now recently for the past 6-8 months backup is gone and restore from backup has taken its place. How can I get the option to backup back in the list?

  • Best way to protect ipod touch screen

Just got my new ipod touch working and I just think it is awesome. I don't want to destroy the ipod or the screen. What is the best thing out there to protect it.

    http://www.exspect.co.uk/
i use a silicon skin from the above manufacturer, and have done for just over a year. the back is a bit scratched, but not terribly, and i'm not too bothered about that.
i messed up putting on the screen protecter, so just gave up on it, and my screen is fine.
the best way to make sure your ipod is protected is just to look after it, dont do daft things like putting it in a pocket with a bunch of keys.

  • Backup Ipod Touch

I had a problem with my laptop and lost all my data, including music, videos, etc. I'd like to know if there is a way to backup my ipod info into my pc?

  • 45 minutes to backup iPod Touch??!

It seems a bit absurd to have to wait 45 minutes for my iPod Touch to backup. Is this an issue with USB 2.0? I miss the FireWire backups of old...

I also have this issue. I use a MBP and all my software (iTunes and Touch) is fully uptodate. The backups were fast to start but now it takes a very long time. My 16GB Touch is only half full to boot.
Most of the times I just cancel the backup.
Anyone else have this issue. I thought the 2.1 upgrade was supposed to speed up backups??

  • Backup ipod touch 4G in a new pc, I can´t use the old pc because was steal.

    Hello
My pc was steal and I have a new pc, I need synchronization my ipod touch 4G in the new pc, but I need keep the music, passwords wi fi, contacts music, and my photos, what can I do, which is the process for synchronization data of my ipod in my new pc without lost information.
    Thanks
    DC

The backup does not include music, synced photos and other sture.  Here what you have to do:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you need a third-party program like one of those discused here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - For synced photos yu need a third-party program like PhoneView or TouchCopy. Those are paid program.  Photos and fideo taken by or save to the iPod are in the iunes backu
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
