AltGr not working in KDE?
I just noticed that the key "AltGr" isnt working for me in KDE. Whats wrong?

Dbus/Hal automount not working in KDE

I have set portmap dbus hal in rc.conf.
In Gnome automount works great but in KDE automount does not work and I don't know why.
Can someone please help?

Everpad not working in KDE?
Can anybody confirm that this works on KDE?
I installed it, but after connecting to my evernote account, cant get anything else.
When clicking on everpad icon, there are only "setting and management" and "exit" options.
On install there was no errors, nor I get errors when launch it from console.

"xsnow" and "xpenguins" do not work in kde.
I notice that running xsnow or xpenguins in kde does not work. Namely, when run in the command line, it fully appears to work, but it does not display any snow or penguins. What is the simplest way to make it display the snow or penguins?

Screen saver not working in KDE 4.6
I can't seem to get my screen saver to work on my netbook running KDE 4.6.1, I have tried removing all the the user settings for KDE and starting with fresh configs but that did solve the issue. I can go into the System Settings and test the screen savers, in which case they work there, but it does not come on when the system times out, I have it set to five minutes. Could this be caused by a missing package or something needed for the screen saver to work?

Thank you, it was the same for me. Starting dbus and then restarting KDE fixed everything. I added dbus in the daemon array, so everything should be in place now.

Cpu frequency scaling not working and hdd powers down

I recently made a fresh reinstall on my laptop keeping only my user settings (home directory) but no system-wide settings (/etc).
Now I have the following issues:
1) CPU frequency scaling does not work. KDE's PowerDevil tells me, my CPU does not have scaling capability and when I try to start cpufreq, I get this error message:

- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
- Trying to set an invalid policy?
- Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not available,
for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific frequency
or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?
The governor modules are loaded:

This used to work out-of-the box with the previous install so I'm a bit puzzled.
2) My hard drive powers down after a few seconds of inactivity, just to power up a few seconds later when it's accessed again. The hard drive never powered down on my previous installation. I do not have any power management daemons running and this behavior starts right after booting the machine, before I log in.
I would like to disable this "feature" since I think it's rather bad for the hard drive's health as well as battery life.
Any ideas?:)
EDIT: Cpu frequency scaling is fixed now, forgot to load the acpi_cpufreq module.:rolleyes: There's still the issue with the hard drive, though.

You can try: hdparm -B 254 <disk device>, but that wont solve the problem permanently, only till you plug and unplug again the AC supply.
you can also try killing upowerd and things will (at least that was the case for me) be alright.
Maybe this is upowerd bug?

AltGr key not working after upgrade to Xorg 7.3
So, I upgraded to Xorg 7.3, and everything seemingly worked fine.
Then I tried writing an e-mail address, and pressing AltGr+2 which should give me an (at) symbol didn't work. After fiddling about abit, I concluded that AltGr did not work at all.
I tried the suggested solutions in the wiki, but none worked for me. I also tried setting Option "XkvVariant "nodeadkeys", but no luck there either.
Here's the keyboard section of my xorg.conf:

As you may have noticed, I have a norwegian keyboard. And if it helps, it's a laptop keyboard - I have a HP nc8430.
Pressing and releasing AltGr in xev produces this output:

Kind of weird, as libsamplerate seems to have something to do with audio.. But hey, it works, and I'm not complaining.

Whenever I try to start a KDE application( I use XFCE ), I get an error saying that the DCOPServer could not be started and dynamic linking is not working. I dont know if it affects all the applications, but the following do not work for sure. Could someone please tell me how to rectify this? I have a lot of data which I stand to lose

KDE - Global keyboard shortcuts not working
My global keyboard shortcuts have stopped working in KDE. When I try to open "Shortcuts and Gestures" in the System Settings, it freezes, and eventually needs to be terminated. Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't see any related recent updates in my pacman.log. I'm not even sure how to go about troubleshooting this.

First, sorry to re-up that post after such a long time.
So, for some reasons, I had the same shortcuts problem since I installed Archlinux on my computer (more than ten months ago).
Shortcuts work when I start my computer up, but after a while (and for no reasons), it just stops working.
That problem is very annoying as I have to do everything using the mouse (and for someone like me who is used to shortcuts, it's very hard..... and long).
And, today, I finally managed to get shortcuts working.
And, the problem seems to come from the Dual Screen with my Nvidia graphic card.
I don't know why, but if I unplug my TV (HDMI connexion), shortcuts just work perfectly. If I plug my TV and set X for DualView, then after a while shortcuts don't work (or very badly).
I have no idea why... also, don't know if the issue is from KDE or Nvidia (I would say KDE as sometimes, when pressing Alt+Tab, the focus goes on the desktop of the TV, and then shortcuts don't work).
Anyhow, hope this will help people having the same issue.
And, of course, if you have any idea on how to fix that problem I would be very grateful (because, I really like having my TV as a second screen). -
[SOLVED]Login manager in KDE 4.3 does not work!
This is a fresh install (just two days old and installed KDEbase just yesterday), and almost everything is working like a charm the only glitch I have experienced till now is that the login manager module in System Settings is not working as it should be. When I click on its button I know that it should normally ask me for my password but it does not do that and therefore when it opens up all the settings are greyed out and thus unchangable . Is this a bug or am I missing something (Anyone else experienced this!)?
Also, although not related to this topic, can somebody tell me where to find the setting for making windows shift to different workspace while dragging them through the edges of the screen. I'm sure I found this setting under Window Behavior>Window Behavior module in Kubuntu but it is nowhere to be found on the Arch KDE.

As nobody answered this question, I guess I'll just mark this thread as solved as even after a lot of search I'm unable to find the preference and so none of the arch users here know about it as well. I think that feature was kubuntu specific and as Arch ships vanilla KDE I think its useless trying to find it here.

Until yesterday I have been using openbox + tint2 + kupfer
Starting from today I wanted to try something new: KDE!
So I did minimal(!) install
Problem
Some keybindigs are not working anymore
Volume Up, Volume Down, PLAY/PAUSE , ...
Also in Kupfer when I try to set launch keybinding to: SUPER+a it says ' Keybinding could not be found' ... however SUPER + SPACE does work.?
Could you give me some advice / tips on where to start looking?

KDE Microblogging plasmoid not working with twitter anymore
Can anyone get twitter working with KDE microblogging plasmoid? Since yesterday evening it stopped updating in my case and now when I try to log in I just get an error instead of my feeds.

From the last 10 days the HAL auto-mount with ntfs-3g file system of my external hard drive does not woks.
But the manual mount procedure with the command mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb* /mnt/XYZ works.
I've followed the instructions in the wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL and the system has worked up to the last kernel or HAL update.
My fat32 usb-stick works without any problem.
If I try to open the device with KDE it appears an error popup wit this message:

Downloaded the patched hal version.
used makepkg in /abs/local/trunk/ to create a pkg for pacman
used sudo pacman -U pkgname to install it.
used sudo nano /etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi to create the fdi file with the following content:
saved the file and removed my ntfs entryes from fstab and rebooted. and still there is no automount off ntfs partitions.
have i done something wrong?

WARNING: what follows is a guide of what did work for me, I'm still in an early stage of learning linux, so please correct me if anything of what follows is wrong/dangerous/stupid. As I said, this worked for me, it's not pretty, since I was learning each step on the fly and I'm sure there are better ways to do this.
So fjodork, you seem to have done the the necessary steps, though i couldn't get it to work until i first removed hal without dependencies
pacman -Rd hal
it will give you some warning about the dependencies, ignore it since we are reinstalling hal in a few steps.
First i tried to follow Raymano's link, obviously it showed me nothing in the browser so I thought it might be a broken link.
So I downloaded the source tarball from here http://hal.freedesktop.org/releases/hal-0.5.10.tar.gz
unpacked it changed the /tools/hal-storage-mount.c as per Milfadoodle's instructions.
at first I tried to compile directly from source, the process would finish without a glitch though after reboot nothing changed, as if hal weren't
installed, i guess there were issues with paths. anyway read on
Then repacked the source in tarball, copied it to /var/abs/extra/system/hal and modified the PKGBUILD as follows
