Altitude limitations of iPad

Apple support is no help concerning using the iPad above 10,000', except to say it's a display issue (the glass will break, voids warranty.) I figure if it's OK at 95 deg. F. @ 10,000 it might be OK much higher if you keep it sufficiently cool to keep the internal pressure of the display in check. I need it to display aeronautical charts as high as 17,500 in an un-pressurized aircraft while using oxygen and can keep it below 65 deg. Can anyone help me refine the specs to allow for the obvious interaction of temp. and pressure? Does anyone have experience with it even above 11,500? The iPad is a great way to go paperless in the aircraft, but for me this is a fatal limitation.

I can't find it now, but I remember seeing a report of an iphone working successfully at the top of mt. everest last year. It also has the 10,000 ft spec.

ine works fine in my plane. I've had it up to 12,500' msl-no problems.

The search function is very useful. I just searched for altitude and got one page of results.

  • Hyperlinks limitations in iPad Adobe Reader

We have made an interactive PDF in InDesign CC with 89 slides, some forms, 5 hyperlinks to web and 147 hyperlinks to jump to other slides. Generated PDF in Adobe Reader on PC works OK. On iPad looks like iPad Adobe Reader 11.2.4 accepts only round 100 hyperlinks and other are ignored. All programs are the latest version. Are there on iPad Adobe Reader limitations for hyperlinks?

Many forms of interactivity are not supported by Adobe Reader for iPad or iPhone (or for Android devices as well).
Read my posting from a couple years ago on this topic:
For Interactive PDF, Not All Readers Are Equal | InDesignSecrets
If you want full PDF interactivity, you need to pay for a good PDF reader like PDF Expert from Readdle ($US 9.99).

  • Limiting childs ipad usage

My son sneaks his ipad at night and watches tv or looks at you tube videos for hours when he is supposed to be sleeping.  Is there a way to limit the wifi capabilities to prevent this from happening?  Turning off the wifi and going to airport mode doesn't work he's on to those tricks.  I'm hoping there is an app or something that might allow wifi for a predetermined amount of time each day.  Any suggestions?

As the others said, the best answer is to take it away.  Other options...
There are no "nanny" apps that I'm aware of, but I could be wrong.
If you connect his iCloud account to your AppleID, you can go to the iCloud site and lock the device.
You should be able to log into your wireless router and lock out that device (exactly how you do this will depend on the details of your router).

  • Limitations of ipad

Am I able to surf the net and stream video content(not using itunes) to an ipad and mirror it to my tv using the appletv.

I can do all things you are talking about with my ipad and the apple bluetooth keyboard, so I assume the guy that answered you doesn't really have a ipad or the keyboard.
I can use tab to move between fields in the form on a web page. You have to at least click in the first field.
I can use the tab to tab inside of pages just fine.
I can use the arrow keys to move around inside of pages, numbers, etc. They even work in this form I am using now to create this post.

  • IPad limitations?  Is it really a Mac?

    Hi,
I just got an iPad last week, and am trying to learn to like it.
So far, it's limitations seem to outweigh it's strengths. First, it doesn't really work like a Mac. There is no dock, no Finder, no 'drag and drop'. There is Mail, but it really doesn't work like Mail; there is Safari, but it really doesn't work like Safari; there is iPhoto, but it really doesn't work like iPhoto.
Let's take iPhoto for example. With the iPad untethered to another computer, I can not - from iPhoto within iPad alone - create 'albums', re-group events', move images from one event to a new event, etc. There may be work-arounds -- because there sure are a lot of apps available! But doesn't that itself say something telling about the limits of iPad? That you have to add dozens of apps to make it work like you want it to doesn't seem to me to be a good thing.
Over the years one of the best things about Mac's was that they just worked -- right out of the box! And they all worked the same way!
Not so with iPad, or so it seems to me.
    What am I missing?

    Thanks for your thoughtful reply.
Looking back, I can see I did vent a bit -- well, maybe more than a bit:-) -- but it was my frustration with myself that was that target. I was just reporting my impressions, which were -- that for the specific purpose that I got it for, e.g., to use as a portable lightweight stand alone'computer' on my trip to Italy, the iPad is going to be provide a little less functionality than I'd anticipated.  I knew that the OS wasn't the full OS; that the interface was different from the rest of their computers, but I thought that I could find enough 'work-arounds' to fill the gaps.
In fact, I couldn't help teasing myself over the weekend.  I think I must be getting old! (This may take a bit of explanation, so bear with me.)  Back when iMovie first came out,  in 1999, it was like a miracle had occurred.  Up until then, video editing software -- Avid and Media Composer, or something like that, STARTED at half a million bucks, and up!  iMovie had limited functionality, sort of like the iPad, but what it could do, it did exceptionally well.  Even better, almost immediately, third party producers started creating 'plug-ins', which when I think of it were sort of like the apps of their day.  I got really interested in iMovie, and particularly a company called Gee Three, which made some of the best plug-ins available, and pretty soon had tailored an editing system, using iMovie as a base, that could do just about anything you wanted to do with video editing, all for practically nothing!  In fact, all that energy and enthusiasm that led to the creation of an iMovie user group, later, the iLife user group, and eventually as a branch, the Digital Photography user group.
Anyway, I've decided to take a different attitude about the iPad2 -- not to whine so much about what it won't do, but to build on what it can do! I'll keep playing with it, because there is a lot about it to like!.  It does have a gorgeous screen, and the images themselves look great. I'll get my camera to iPad interface/gadget today, I hope, and can then start importing photos from the camera.
Only then will I be able to get a feel for what I can and cannot do.
    Thanks again,
    Haly2k1

  • How many times can you connect ipad to a different computer?

I have an Ipad 1 and when connecting it to my new laptop (not Mac) it told me the device could only be connected one more time to a different computer. Are there limits on Ipads as to how many computers or times we can connect them to? Is there any way to reset this or not?

When it comes to apps, this is right, unless you use the Windows version of iFunBox (the Mac version, not even the latest version, doesn't work for direct IPA transfer). However, you can transfer / sync music / videos from several computers using third-party tools (without jailbreaking!!) with tools like SyncPod / FreeSync.
You may want to read the section "A side remark: put music / videos / other media on your iDevice without iTunes" at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/ios-contact-management-duplicate-removal-impor texport-etc-tips-and-tricks for more info.

  • How can I publish photos from my ipad to NEW album in my gallery

I am traveling overseas with only my iPad. I need to upload photos from the iPad to my Galley, but not to any of the existing albums.
I need to create a new album for these photos.
There doesn't seem to be a way to add new albums to my gallery when using the iPad. This limits the iPad's usefulness for me for travel purposes as I shoot a lot of photos and need/want to share as I go along. (obviously, if I'd known about this before, I would have set up a "travel photos" album before I left my home computer.)
Does someone have some advice for me?

i have exactly the same question - I bought the ipad specifically for this purpose, and now find that I have created all sorts of problems for myself.   I have bought the camera connection kit to upload everything, with the intention of clearing the sd and flash cards afterwards, but only to find out that i "shouldn't rely on that, what if something happens to your ipad when travelling, you'll have lost all of your photo data"
I asked in the apple store what I should do - answer " take a laptop with you which is synched to your itunes and upload your photos......."  NOT quite what I wanted to hear - why on earth would I travel with a laptop and an ipad?

  • Can I track course/delegate iPads and wirelessly install apps?

    Hello all,
I work in an institution where we deploy 80 iPads a day to delegates for the duration of their stay with us.
At the moment, we are unable to find a suitable location tracking solution, for when the iPads go wandering. As you can guess, we have had a couple over the years go missing, but have been fortunate it has only been a couple.
For our staff devices(not limited to iPads) we use Systems Manager/Meraki. But there are serveral reasons why we cannot use this for our delegate. I will detail some of them below:
We deploy the iPads day to day, using Configurator to wipe and load them, ready for the next person, this clears the enrollment settings, meaning we would spend hours each morning getting the devices enrolled as we would have to repeat this for each person
The location tracking is inadequate, as it tracks by IP, not giving us a realistic picture of where the iPads are when trying to find them
The beta location tracking feature is only a beta and we would need something reliable long term and short term
As all of the devices are 'supervised' we would preferably like a solution which could be used with Configurator.
Finally, we would like to be able to push out apps wirelessly to the devices on our network, this would be useful for last minute requests. We currently don't have anything in place for this and wondered if others are having the same issue, or have a good solution.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Maybe you should check with AirWatch
If you want additional features that the application provides such as GPS tracking, telecom collection, and compromised detection, it is recommended that you push the AirWatch MDM Agent as a public application through the console. You will be prompted to install this application, as usual behavior after enrollment, once completing the Setup Assistant.
Here is what Apple says is possible.  It lets you display the location of the ipad if it is network connected.  If you secure you ipad, the mdm acts as a replacement for the activation lock.

  • IPad unread email count doesn't tally with Microsoft Exchange 2007 email count from OWA.

I discovered that when we first setup the iPad to sync email from Microsoft Exchange 2007 server via ActiveSync, the total number of unread email count tally with the count from OWA. After a few days, the unread email count will be out of sync. The settings for iPad "Mail days to syn": No limit. Mail to show: 1000. iPad iOS: 5.1.1
    We performed the following:
    1.     Compare email by email to verify which are the read email from OWA doesn't sync to iPad. We discovered that some emails read from OWA doesn't sync with iPad even performed forced update. However, if we delete that read email from OWA, it will delete (unread) from iPad immediately after sync.
    2.     Email recall message for successful recalled displayed in OWA but not on iPad.
    3.     Calendar invite message forward as email displayed in OWA but not in iPad.
Is there a bug for Microsoft Exchange 2007 or there is limitation for iPad?
    Any kind expert can advice?
    Thanks.

Can you do setup an unread mail folder that shows all unread mail regardless of what folder it really is in on the iPhone mail program somehow?
    No.
If not, can this be submitted as an enhancement as it makes email use very cumbersome.
Yes. You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • HT1414 Some videos that are stored in iCloud remain on my iPad after backup. What can I do to store them in the cloud again?

After watching tv shows that were stored in iCloud, they remain on the iPad device even after backup is performed on iCloud.
This limits my iPad storage.  How do I get them back to iCloud as soon as I have finished watching?

Backing up your iPad won't change what is stored on your iPad, and you can't put TV programmes into the cloud - they will only show there whilst the TV company has them for sale in your country's store.
How did you download them onto you iPad e.g. via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app or syncing, or do you have videos in the cloud showing (Settings > iTunes & App Store > Videos 'on') and tapped on a cloud TV programme in the Videos app ? If the former then you should be able to delete them directly in the Videos app, either via the Edit button on the TV programme selection screen, or by selecting the series and swiping across the episode from right to left. If the latter then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Videos (under the 'Storage' heading) ? If they do then you should be able to delete them by swiping across them from right to left.

  • Can I create books for the iBookstore for iPad and iPhone using Pages?

Can I create books for the iBookstore for iPad and iPhone using Pages?

No problem, Peter. iBooks Author makes a lot of things much easier than trying to grapple with a standard epub, but it also has some big limitations, like iPad only, and ibookstore only.
EDIT It's not really suitable for something like a novel, for example, although it's great when you need lots of illustrations and movies and such.

  • IPad Air safari crashs all the time

Safari crashes all the time. Safari settings reseted - no positive result! Mostly, when zooming into the web page.
Dear Apple, when are you going to fix this annoying faulty Safari app?
I am not alone with this fault, please read your own Apple forum! Or just google it....
    By the way, response appreciated!

Just posting to second this and also mention that the problem is not limited to iPad Air.  I definitely have it on my iPad Air, but have also had it on iPhone 5 and iPad 2 ever since "upgrading" to iOS 7 over two months ago.
    APPLE, PLEASE FIX THIS NOW!!!

  • Mac and Altitude

I am traveling to La paz Bolivia, one of the highest places in south america, I read about my mac altitude limit but I have a question.
What will happen if I take it with me but not use it until I am on my mac altitude range?
I still don´t know if my mac is original or late 08... but the altitude limit is the same.

Typically, altitude limitations have to do with the display construction. It does not seem to matter if it is powered up or not, you are still at risk of developing problems. This is the same reason you do not want to put your Mac in checked luggage when the cargo hold is not pressurized.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY?  I KNOW I AM USING PROPER APPLE ID AND PASSWORD  BECAUSE I RESET ON PURPOSE DUE TO CONTINUALLY GETTING THIS ERROR.  HELP!

    Hi Smhawk1,
As someone who uses iMessage daily I know I would be upset if it was not functioning for me. If you are having an issue with activating iMessage on your iPad, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
