Alu iMac 2.8GHZ 2GB RAM ATI2600HD

Hi,
Having bought the above iMac and then installed Leopard I have a problem where the screen jitters whenever you move the mouse. I have installed the latest software updates to no avail. Here are some of the facts that I have.
1) problem did not occur on Tiger (the OS installed when the computer was purchased 2 months ago)
2) I have latest software update installed - still occurs
3) I have changed the mouse - still occurs
4) I have moved the mouse to a different port - still occurs
5) I have changed the resolution to all that are available - situation still occurs in all resolutions
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Kind regards

Hi CrobinsonH-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Do you have the zoom function enabled? Option-command-8 turns it on and off.

  • IMAC early 2009 2GB RAM, 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, Im currently running Snow LEopard 10.6

So I have an iMAC early 2009 2GB RAM, 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, Im currently running Snow LEopard 10.6 & I tried upgrading to Yosemite 10.10 today and right before it finishes it cancels download and says unable to download application "NSInternalInconsistentexception" ??? how do i fix this

Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

  • Is an iMac 2.66ghz 2GB RAM, running Mac OS X 10.6.8, a few years old with massive delays fixable?

Is it possible to fix a 2006 iMac 2.66ghz 2GB RAM, SL OS X that gets hot after an hour or so of use, slows down functionality, causing delayed response, frequent disconnecting wireless mouse.  Upon restart shows blinking folder until left to cool down completely and starts again normally?  Could this be a RAM issue (2GB currently) or a Hardrive capacity issue (217GB of 317GB available)?  Is this a sign of a dying computer or is it salvagable?

Backup the computer before doing the following:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4.  When the installation has completed your computer will require a restart after
which you will be running a fresh install of OS X. When you setup your initial
admin account in the Setup Assistant be sure to use the exact same username
and password you used on your old system.
         5. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can now begin the update
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
When this is completed you can begin to restore your files from your backup.

  • Bioshock iMac 2.8 2GB Ram = Works just fine!

I just wanted to let potential buyers know that I have Bioshock running nice and smooth @ 1280 x 720 with everything cranked up. I am using the 7.9 beta drivers that were released a few days back. (Madden 08 works great too)
I do have issues with the glossy screen during the day in my office. The windows behind me have shutters on them and are only about 7-10 feet away. I will have to rearrange my office to use the iMac without irritation. (Not and easy task) However, The screen does look AWESOME during the evenings and nights.
I will be keeping the new iMac and sell off my old/new 24" Matte. The speed and ability to have 4gb's of ram just outweigh the negatives I have with the glossy screen.

I modded the Catalyst 7.9 drivers to install. they seem to work fine and BioShock now works properly. I had to add a line to the INF file then force windows to install it by manually selecting the driver via the device manager. However, the last two times I played Bioshock it crashed after 15 minutes. I am not sure if the two prolems are connected... but I imagine they are. I have other stuff to do right now. I will test it more later.
as for the ram question. You have to keep in mind the difference between 32bit and 64bit. The Core2Duo have 64bit capabilities. Tiger has 64bit capabilities (although leopard will have a lot more). With 32 bit the maximum you can access is 4gb. 4gb ram, 4gb files, etc. That is why FAT32 has a 4gb file size limit. NTFS and HFS+ are 32bit filesystems, but they fake the ability to have files larger than 4gb by stitching them together and not showing the user.
the new aluminum imac support 4gb of ram, which is part of the new santa rosa chipset they are using. Tiger, because of it's 64bit capabilities will be able to address the 4gb of ram. But as far as I know, Windows XP and Windows Vista 32Bit will NOT be able to address all 4gb. I gathered this from watching DL.TV and have never actually tested it since i don't have 4gb of ram.
    Hope this helps,
    Jeff

  • Dual 1.8GHz 2GB RAM not gonna run iMovie '08?

    Hello all,
I have heard that despite what the requirements for iMovie '08 are, it will run on a dual 1.8GHz Power Mac G5 (I swear I read that a fellow PMG5 1.8GHz user was doing it...with if memory serves, 3GB of RAM.) But do I really need 3GB of RAM? I wanna max this bad boy out but I dont have the money to do so at the moment. However its beyond me as to why it installed without a single problem. It even says it requires a dual 2.0GHz. But I just popped the iLife '08 DVD in the Mac and it installed everything on the DVD no questions asked. What I find a bit weird is I went to a friends house (he has a PMG5 Single 1.6GHz 4GB RAM) it wouldnt install. Ok so maybe his specs were too low. =( but this thing is super fast. (Im running Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard hes still running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger (I sold him my 10.4.6 DVD when I bought my 10.5.6 DVD) And we have blazing fast machines. Esp his! I wonder why his is faster...is Tiger really THAT MUCH older?
    Regards

    Hi-
RAM isn't as much of an issue as processor speed.
iLife 08 will install on most any machine, even G4's, but the ability to use iMovie successfully requires more CPU, thus the 2.0GHz stated in the system requirements.
Anyhow, it wouldn't be the first time a machine with lower than recommended CPU speed installed iMovie 08:
    http://tom.goskar.com/2007/09/03/imovie-08-on-a-18ghz-single-processor-g5/
    Some ineteresting discussion here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=338836
Only 512MB of RAM is necessary, but Apple recommends 1GB.
However, RAM becomes necessary when manipulating large files.
2GB is really as low as one should go..... and more is better with graphics and video related work.
The 3GB issue is not RAM, but hard drive space.
The software suite simply requires that much space on the hard drive.
Tiger is faster than Leopard on most all PPC machines.
Leopard has its sweet spots, but uses more RAM, CPU and graphics card than Tiger.
This may explain why a slower machine "feels" faster.

  • IMac late 2008, 2GB RAM, Mavericks 10.9.2, Noise in sleep

What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep?  Sounds like iMac is loading an application, a graphic, or a different screen.  Does it periodically while in sleep mode.  Does seem to do with increasing frequency as time passes while in sleep.  How do I correct this?  Just started doing it in the last few months.  I'm afraid I'm setting myself up for some kind of premature hardware failure.  I've tried everything such as checking Energy Saver settings, Bluetooth settings, print queue, etc.
    iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I finally figured out how to fix this.  First I reviewed "Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep of stay in sleep mode."  I noted the bullet:  "Do you have any other external USB or Firewire devices connected?"  I have an CP685AVR for a UPS for my Mac.  I replaced the battery a few months ago.  I also hooked up Apple's 'Energy Saver' power management software to the CP685AVR using the USB connection.  I disconnected it, and that solved the problem.  I still have the UPS and battery back-up; I just can't "monitor" the battery.  What's to monitor?  It always said the battery was 100% charged even right up to the time the previous battery failed.  Thanks for listening, uh... reading.

  • Illustrator CS6 on iMac with 2GB RAM

How will CS6 perform on my iMac with only 2GB RAM?  Minimum requirement is 2GB but I have
concern it will be horribly slow.  Does anyone have experience with this?

    Hi inmanbs,
It would be great to have a hands-on AI CS6 from http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=illustrator&loc=en_us&promoid=DJDUV and use a free trial period of 30 days.
My experience shows that it is acceptable.

  • My mid 2007 iMac doesn't recognise 2GB RAM module in DIMM/1

I am trying to upgrade the RAM in my mid 2007 iMac from 1GB to 4GB. It originally had a 1GB module in slot DIMM/0 and nothing in slot DIMM/1. I inserted the two new 2GB modules, one in each slot but DIMM/1 just reports as being 'empty'. I have tried swapping the modules and different configurations of 1 & 2GB modules but DIMM/1 only reads the original 1GB module (from DIMM/0) and reports 'empty' when either of the two 2GB modules are installed.
I have reset PRAM, checked EFI firmware update and updated OSX to version 10.6.8 (from 10.5.8) but still the same result. The best I can get is 3GB (2GB in DIMM/0 and 1GB in DIMM/1). I am definitely pushing the modules firmly into place. Is there anything else I can try?

Your machine will accept up to 6GB of RAM however you must a) have the correct specifications, no variations at all and b) must push hard with both thumbs to fully seat the RAM. The correct RAM for your system would be the specifications shown here. I suspect 1 of three things with the RAM you bought.
    1. Wrong specifications!
    2. Incorrectly installed
    3. Defective RAM
I would STRONGLY recommend using Crucial or my preferences OWC, which is the memory shown in the link.
    BTW I have a late 2007 24" 2.8GHz iMac with 6GB of RAM.

  • Beach Ball of Death on my 24" iMac 2.8GHz duo, 4 MB Ram, 750 GB HD

    Hello all:
Maybe I got one of the first ones off the line? Ordered it on release day in September.
I'm having Beach Ball problems, lots of freezes in Firefox, Excel, SLOOOOWWW response on saves, goofy problems dragging and dropping files. Coupla Hard restarts, LOTS of restarts.
Anybody else out there with same/similar problems?
    Steve

I keep getting the same thing, using similar software. I am running a slightly older iMac - 24" 2.33MHz (pre-aluminum), with 2GB RAM and a 500 GB hard drive.
Over time, the crashes get worse, and eventually the system software needs to be reinstalled. About six months ago, I decided to partition the hard drive in the hope that I could isolate the problem to the boot partition and save other files/data. This DOES work - only the boot partition goes bad. Disk Warrior can't rebuild it, but it make a lot of repairs and does recover most of the files. But this never fixes it - it seems to be a stop-gap, and eventually the partition fails again.
I just reinstalled the system software after another crash today that killed the partition. I have read about the "iMac Update 1.1" as being a potential culprit, so I am not doing any updates.
I have been keeping Console running, hoping to get a clue. Everything it reports is far too arcane for me to understand, but here are some expamples of what it reports:
Every hour exactly, it spits out
    "-computer kernel[0]: SetCryptoKey R: len 32, idx 2
("idx" flips back and forth between 1 and 2 each error.)

  • Add one 2GB Ram card only (to make 6GB) in iMac 21.5 inch mid-2011

I have just upgraded my early 2008 iMac and now have a spare 2GB memory card. Can I add this to my wife's mid-2011 21.5 inch iMac? The top two slots are occupied by 2 x 2GB RAM. If so, how would I configure the 3 x 2GB in the four slots?
    John

In addition to Mike's response, the iMac must have the memory added in matched pairs.  That is, two side-by-side slots have to have the same size ram modules,  The over-under slots do not have to match in size but you cannot leave a slot empty.  You must have either two slots filled or four slots filled.
iMacs are even more picky than other Macs about their ram...you absolutely must use the correct speed ram in all four slots.

I have an iMac 8.1 - 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1Gb Ram. I wish to upgrade to OS Lion which requires 2Gb RAM. Which 2Gb card would be the most suitable .

    Go to crucial.com
Enter your specs, and buy as much as it'll hold. You'll be happy you did. I've been using them for years. Great company, and the best value for RAM in my opinion. And you don't want to mess with cheap RAM. It can mess EVERYTHING up...

  • Can my iMac g5 2gb ram intel core 2 duo 2.16 ghz processor support OSX 10.6?

I am looking to upgrade for needs of music production. I need help to figure out if my computer iMac g5 2gb RAM and an intel core 2 duo processor 2.16ghz can handle it?

"Mutually exclusive," meaning one can't exist at the same time as the other.  If you have an Intel Mac, you don't have a G5 iMac. A G5 is PPC (Power PC) and can't install Snow Leopard.
But I'd max out the RAM. 2GB is bare bones and you won't go very far with that, especially if you're going to be running some memory consuming music production applications.

  • IMac 20", 2Gb Ram, 256Mb GPU

    Nooooo 4 days... harsh!
Just bought a new 20" iMac with 2Gb Ram and the 256Mb GPU.
Has anyone else got this configuration? How is it?
I only use native Apps so it should be sweet!
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have the same exact setup...it is SWEET! I upgraded from a 17" G4 iMac (1.25Ghz/1GB RAM) WOW...what a difference. You are totally going to love this machine. Even if you do dabble with some non native apps, I have found all of them to run faster than they did on my old machine, so it is still way faster for me overall.

  • Will ML run slow on 2GB RAM iMac?

I have an early-2008 iMac with 2GB RAM. I'm concerned that my system will slow down if I install Mountain Lion. I know that Apple says my iMac has the proper requirements, but I've read a few articles that suggest running at least 4GB RAM for better results.
Has anyone with a similar computer to mine installed ML and been happy with the results?
Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance,
    Sunny

It depends on what software you use and whether you try to run more than one program at a time. It will also depend on whether you are upgrading from Lion or Snow Leopard. If you are upgrading from Snow Leopard you will notice that switching from one program to another takes longer. Some programs that require a lot of memory (Microsoft Office programs come to mind) will run noticably slower. If you are upgrading from Lion you probably won't notice a great deal of difference.

iMac late 2009 reads only 2GB RAM,I have re-installed the card 10 times now, what else could I do?

Please give us some more details on what exactly has gone wrong with your iMac.
What size RAM module/s are you trying to install and where did you purchase the RAM module/s from?
RAM has to be installed in matched size pairs.
Make sure the RAM module clicks into place. You need to apply a little bit of force to get the module to slide in and clIck into its module slot location.
Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
If you purchased RAM from ANY other source and still can't get the RAM to work, return it for a full refund and buy RAM from the sources I have listed.
