Alu Macbook GFX troubles

Bought my new Macbook 2.0Ghz only couple of weeks ago, and I've already run into several of the problems.
The touchpad isn't always responding
Sometimes it wont wake up from standby
The case doesn't fit very well. Can move it a tiny bit
But worst of all.. The GFX. The last couple of days the GFX has been acting a little weird. When playing games it all of a sudden "speed up" makes sort of the same sound as when it's loading a DVD, only it is followed by a very laud annoying beep noise, which keeps on going, until i either shut down the computer og put it on standby. Can happen after 30 mins of gaming or after 5 hours. Sounds just like when i back in my "PC days" OC'd my gfx too much for it to handle :P
Anyone got a solution to this?

Sounds like a problem for Apple to deal with.

  • Worth protecting alu macbook with invisible shield?

    hi
i was wondering is it easy to scratch the new alu macbook becasue i have had mine for three days now and so far so good. would like to hear your views?

    dood,
I have to say I already scratched that flimsy bottom panel where the battery and HD are... That is part of the reason why I quickly ordered a shield...
Not to be a party crasher here, but aluminum is so easy to scratch, too bad eh, it's so pretty, bare silver like that... At least the shield won't hide the sexiness!
I also called Apple, asked for the panel as a spare part and was willing to pay for it, thinking it would cost a fortune... Much to my surprise, the part is... 8 $ ! plus shipping, which is ironically 11 $ (more than the part ironic isn't it).
Last comment: I have rarely had such great customer support, first time I call Apple, and I'm very impressed with the gentleman who was patient and went through the whole paperwork thing.

  • Macbook pro, trouble with external hard drives

I just got the drive on my mid-2010's macbook pro replaced at Apple. I am now experiencing a new problem.
My macbook is having trouble with ALL my external hard-drives. After a few minutes of being plugged in I click on them to open and the finder window is blank. Its not allowing me to veiw the content stored on the drive. If I keep trying my computer will freeze. I try to 'Force Eject' the drive and it doesnt eject so I have to unplug then start over.
This seems to happen roughly about 5 minutes after I plug them in. They work fine the first 5 minutes. Its becoming extremly annoying. All my drives are different makes, sizes, etc.. so I pretty sure its the macbook.
    What might the problem be?
    Thanks,
    Shane

  • MacBook Pro Trouble

I own a 1.83 Ghz Core Duo MacBook Pro which I purchased last year in March. Recently (Past Month or 2) when I shut my laptop it doesnt go to sleep like it should. This happens about 60% of the time. This has caused lots of trouble, mostly when I put my computer to sleep and wake up the next morning to find the fans running at full power. I havent had that much trouble with this computer, besides a battery replacement and MagSafe replacement. I have a small whine but it doesn't bother me much. I should probably mention that sometimes when it does manage to go to sleep, when I try to wake it up, the computer doesnt respond and it refuses to wake up. The only way to fix that is to restart it and then when I boot back up it gives me a "Mac OS quit unexpectedly" message. (That happened about 5 times on Saturday)

Assuming there's no mechanical problem it sounds like system corruption.
First, boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostics screen appears. Run the extended tests. This will determine if there's a hardware problem.
If there's no hardware problem then do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't straighten things out then it's probably time to reinstall OS X. Assuming the hard drive has been verified as OK in the previous exercise, you can reinstall OS X using the Archive and Install option which doesn't require erasing the hard drive. However, if there were any disk errors that could not be repaired, then your only option is to re-format the hard drive and then reinstall OS X.

  • Mid 2012 MacBook Air Troubles (Random Reboots & No Camera)

Hello, I'm hoping somebody can help me out. I have a mid 2012 Apple MacBook air that I am having problems with. Ever since I bought this laptop from my friend, it has randomly rebooted during sleep mode, and the FaceTime camera has not worked. I was told that water has been spilled on it at one point, but I have went over the entire computer and do not see any sort of damage. Because I was not having any luck getting it to quit the rebooting, and because the camera would not work, I purchased a replacement motherboard and battery.
The new parts arrived today, and I quickly installed them. I was instantly having the same exact problems. The computer will still reboot when I close the lid to put it in sleep mode. It instantly starts rebooting after about 2 to 3 minutes. And it will continue to reboot over and over until I reopen the lid. In addition the camera is still not detected, and I have double checked under the system properties that it is not showing up under the USB tab. I have cleared the PRAM & SMC, still no changes. As a last ditch effort, I decided to reinstall OSX 10.9 Mavericks as a fresh install. No go...
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get this thing running properly? I bought it because I wanted to use it for some home-video editing, and in its current condition I don't feel that it is trustworthy. The only things left that I can replace, would be the display or the thunderbolt daughterboard. I already previously had replaced the SSD with a larger 256 GB, and I tried swapping out the wifi card as well. I'm banging my head against the wall here, and really want to be able to use this computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you get the answer you need here, I would contact Apple MacBook Air Support or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
Apple Service Technicians have access to all special tools, test equipment, parts, and proprietary data needed for efficient repairs.  If cost is your issue, you can ask for an estimate before they proceed with any needed repairs.

  • MacBook in trouble?!:(

    Hello,
So, I bought my macbook about a year and 3 months ago. Unfortunately I didn't buy the Apple Care. Anyway when I had my macbook for about 3 months, the laptop started shutting off randomly. I took it to the Apple store and they fixed it for me =] I have no clue what they did. About a week ago I had it on my lap and the macbook shutted down (with a 100% bttery) so I put it back on the table and and it seemed to be fine but a moment ago it went to sleep and when I tried to wake it up, it wouldn't. The dim light was on and I closed the top and opened back but nothing happened so I shut it off and when I went to turn it back on.... it started but I could see my background ...blury with all the applications that were open and it started to load (it was a mix of the background with the apple logo and background when you turn it on)
I wondr what's happening and why!
    Thnaks

Sounds like an Overheating issue, but just maybe, do a bit of maintenance.

  • New Macbook Air Trouble Getting Printer Drivers.

Long time Mac user and moving to a new Macbook Air from a Macbook Pro.  Cannot get the printer drivers downloaded from the App Store and keep getting the following message:
"Can't download the software for the EPSON WorkForce 840 because of a network problem."
My assumption was our local area network has a problem and did the full monte re: Airport Utility, signal strength, etc. to no avail.
Older MacBook Pro is printing fine to the printer.  Any ideas for what I may be overlooking?  I then downloaded the Epson software from the Epson site. Changed my security preferences so as to be able to install it, did the "installation" via the installer and cannot find it on the computer.  Can find the original download, but cannot find the installed file anywhere on the Macbook Air.  Strange.
    Suggestions?
    Bill

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Used macbook air, trouble downloading iphoto with my apple id

I bought a used macbook air and want to download iphoto, but it was downloaded previously with a different apple id by the previous owner. It says I must purchase again with my id but I can't find the purchase option anywhere in the app store. It only says "accept" where it would normally say the price.

Since you bought this second hand, you will now have to contact iTS to sort out the problem. Only they can unadopt the ownership.

I'm also curious, did the previous owner manually install Lion, or did it come pre-installed that way?

  • Iphone macbook pro trouble

Cna you help me understand how to pair my iphone 4 with my new macbook pro running lion via bluetooth.  I have tried the same connection technique that I have used to successfully pair my bluetooth headset, mouse and keyboard and this isn't working.  What am i doing wrong?

Use the cable instead. You can't sync the iPhone and Mac or exchange files between them via Bluetooth anyway, so there's little point in pairing them at all. And the cable is far simpler.

  • Brandnew MacBook Pro trouble

Just bought a brand new Apple MacBook Pro (5,1). Very excited.
Unpacked it, switched it on.. normal procedure.. filling in few forms and came to OSX. Tho after that it started to do a lot of things at the same time and OSX went really really slow. So i decided to reboot. But at the reboot it got stuck on the Apple screen (no circle below it).
So I thought I'd reinstall OSX and getting rid of the extra languages and printer-files. So I format the disk, checked the disk and started reinstalling. Half way through it came with a message "Installation failed". Huh? Tried again, same outcome. Tried the official Snow Leopard disk I bought 3 weeks ago for my current laptop. Same outcome. Huh?
Called Apple Care and they tell me insert second disk and hold down the D button to run an extended hardware diagnosis. I should call them back after it's done since it'll take a while. Now I can hold the D button but nothing happens..?
How do I get into the diagnosis application?
What's the procedure next if hardware fails?
What's the procedure next if the install disk fails?
    Niek
Edit: Posted into the wrong forum without noticing.

    Ye I wish
In Europe (at least the Netherlands) we know DOA as well. But as stated before I have to run a hardware diagnostics for them first. To see if it's the notebook or the disk. I cant actually take it back since I bought it online and we have no Apple stores in the Netherlands, only Premium resellers.
Got the diagnostic running at the moment, taking about 2 or 3 hours I think.

  • Macbook Startup Trouble

Everytime i start my macbook the apple logo comes up and every 6 seconds or so it flashes quickly with a circle with a line through it.....and it wont go any farther. how do i fix this?

It may be a boot firmware problem:

Have you tried to update the EFI firmware recently? If so and it failed, you can try to restore by burning a restore CD:

  • No SpeedStep / CPU scaling in XP on new Alu Macbook

Installed XP Home SP2 via Bootcamp on my Late 2008 Macbook (2.0 ghz)
Was surprised to see the battery life go down by half under XP compared to Leopard
A quick check revealed that the CPU is running at full throttle (1.99 ghz even with 0% CPU utilization)
Why should this be the case.
I have the power options set to max battery and the CPU should be scaling itself down to lower clocks when not loaded
Can someone else with a late 08 MB also please check this and let me know

Hi Hatter, further to our other thread, the fundamental problem here is that Apple hardware uses EFI, not BIOS. There are many Windows apps for controlling CPU and GPU fan speeds, but they all rely on genuine BIOS hooks to control the physical hardware. Boot Camp provides a pseudo BIOS layer (over EFI) to allow install of Windows, but it does not go the extent of supporting CPU fan control, so Windows users are dependent on waiting for Apple to provide CPU fan control functionality in Boot Camp.
With regard to the NVidia 9400M GPU in particular, this is the only GPU/chipset range that NVidia does not provide consumer support for in their recent public driver release. Since Apple is the OEM that designed the implementation of 9400M on the Apple notebooks, only Apple can create drivers for them. So again, Windows users are dependent on waiting for Apple to provide GPU fan control funcionality in their Windows graphics driver under Boot Camp.

  • Macbook display trouble

Was is das?
Yesterday I found out how far a moron can go. After having set my MacBook late 2008 to sleep mode I temporarily stored it on my office chair. Only ten minutes later I sent it thoughtlessly to the ground, a freefall of 2 feet, stopped by the carpet. When I wakened it up, the screen display looked like shifted an inch to the bottom. I switched the Book off and took the battery out to give the machine a rest of two hours. After booting up, the shift had gone, but now there is a color issue on the screen: All white parts have changed to a nice friendly cyan now, and on dark corners you can see a thin red rim. To say it in one word: Heeeeeeeelp! What´s that????

I have been witness to a lot of wonders, but witnessing that mac heals itself is somewhat weird!
Since that drop I couldn´t find the time to carry the MacBook to a service provider. Yesterday I told myself that monday I will find time because despite the fault the machine still was usable. Yesterday night the screen colours flickered like **** and I comforted myself with the thought that monday isn´t sooo far away. This morning I booted the book up and everything was like new, no flickering, no bluish screen. This again shows me that Apple is really special. All these unknown hidden features keep me in awe!

I had to replace my keyboard because the "jee" key doesn't work. (I'll use the "q" key instead.) I thouqht I found the riqht keyboard on eBay. The model number for the machine looked riqht. It said:
"For Use In: Apple MacBook A1181 White Late 2006." I didn't know if I needed to match part numbers.
When the keyboard arrived, it looked physically similar. I noticed the ribbon cable that pluqs into the motherboard was silver rather than oranqe, as on the oriqinal.
The keyboard fit, physically, and the pluq matched the socket on the motherboard. The machine booted just fine and the keyboard seemed to work.
I've qot Windows XP installed with Boot Camp. When I restarted in XP, Windows wouldn't recoqnize the new keyboard. No response from any key or the trackpad.
As you can see, I'm usinq the old keyboard aqain. Windows XP still recoqnizes it.
Did I use the riqht model number? Did the seller mis-identify the keyboard? If I qet another replacement keyboard, how can I avoid the same problem next time? Do I need to look at part number as well as model number?
    Thanks in advance, a bunch.
    Tim

Yes, you need to match model numbers. While the same keyboard may have been used across certain model numbers, not all MacBooks are alike. Your MacBook because it is a 1,1 was the first one released early 2006, not the late 2006 release.
http://www.welovemacs.com actually sells individual keys for your keyboard. You might want to contact them and just put back in the old keyboard, and hopefully most of it still functions, as you may have drawn too much power or too little power from the bus.
