ALUI 6.x SQL 2005 SP3
Is anyone running ALUI 6.x on MS SQL Server 2005 SP3?
We are being told my Microsoft that we need to apply SP3 to our SQL servers by the end of the year to maintain support.
Oracle is telling us that ALUI 6.x is not certified on SP3. I would think with Applications Unlimited Oracle would want to certify applications on newer database levels.
ALUI 6.1 - MS SQL Server 2005
ALUI 6.1 MP1 - MS SQL Server 2005 SP2
ALUI 6.5 and 6.5 MP1 - MS SQL Server 2005 SP2
WCI 10.3.0 - MS SQL Server 2005 SP2 and higher
Hi Tim,
To argument what Mike stated....
Take a look at the interoperability matrix here:
[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13196_01/platform/suppconfigs/BIDExtInteroSupportMatrix3.xls#PortalWksheet|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13196_01/platform/suppconfigs/BIDExtInteroSupportMatrix3.xls#PortalWksheet]
This is considered the most up-to-date document on supported configurations against the Web Center Interaction product line.
You can see here for for WCI 10.3.0.0 the product is certified against SQL 2005 with SP2^. The symbol ^ next to SP2, indicates we support Service pack 2 or higher (ie SP3). Keep in mind with all SQL server 2005 databases we still require them to run in SQL 2000 compatibility level.
6.5 and 6.5mp1 it is certified against SQL 2005 SP2 (but not SP3).
6.1 MP1 is certified against SQL 2005 SP2 (but not SP3).
6.1 is certified against SQL 2005
6.0.x is not certfied against SQL 2005
By certified this means that these products have had full test cycles against these versions of the database.
While support will attempt to assist you with technical issues, if your 6.x alui portal is installed against an uncertfied version of SQL server, and it comes down to the problem being caused by you being on that uncertfied version of db, then you might need to downgrade your database to a certified release. And I would think this would be unlikely, but it's good to be aware of.
The recommendation would be for you to work towards upgrading your portal from 6.x to 10.3 which is supported against SQL 2005 SP3.
Hope that clarifies things.

RyanO

The tables are not listed in table browser (Designer) MS SQL 2005 SP3
Database: SQL 2005 SP3, using ODBC Connection
Database name: Test_7.6_Reporting
Business Objects XI3.1 SP2
When I open the table browser, I see all my databases listed.
If I expand these I see three folders - Information_Schema, dbo and Sys, it doesn't show anything after i expand dbo.
I need to know how to get these tables to show.
Please advice. Thanks!Hi BK,
This seems odd. All I can think of is that there may be a security issue. Maybe it doesn't register you as dbo. Check into the possible security differences between you and a user who can see those tables under dbo.
Thanks!

ODI 10.1.3.4.0 - Topology Manager Connection Error using SQL 2005 SP3
Hello All,
I am using the ODI repository in SQL 2005 SP3. I could create my master repository using the following parameters:
driver: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
URL:jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://server_name:1433;SelectMethod=direct;DataBaseName=ODI
I needed to copy to the drivers directory all files of SQL 2000 (msutil.jar, msbase.jar,mssqlserver.jar) and SQL 2005 (sqljdbc.jar). I am using the JRE 1.4.2 and JDBC 2005 1.2 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378422(SQL.90).aspx)
But when I try to connect in Topology Manager to create the work repository appears the following error:
using this driver string: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC] Can't start a cloned connection while in manual transaction mode.
using this driver string: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver
Does Somebody know what is happening?
Regards,
Wallace Galvao
Sao Paulo - BrazilHi,
If you plan on using the SQL Server 2005 drivers then you only need the 1.2 sqljdbc.jar file in the drivers directory.
The connection details for SQL Server 2005 should be like the following.
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
jdbc:sqlserver://<sqls machine>:1433;databaseName=<db name>;integratedSecurity=false
I would try just with just the correct driver in place, remove the others, restart any ODI components and then make sure the connection information is correct like above.
Cheers

Hi,
We have a problem when we are trying to install SQL SP3 on SQL 2005 cluster.
The problem is described bellow:
We installed a new Windows 2008 R2 x64 failover cluster with two nodes.
As a next step we installed SQL 2005 Enterprise edition x64 on this failover cluster. We have finished the installation without problems. After SQL installation we are trying to install SQL SP3 . We have logged on using a domain administrator account and
we start the installation of SP3 with that user. In authentication mode screen the test gives a success status using either domain administrator-windows authentication or sa-sql authentication. On remote user account screen, when we give the domain
administrator account we get the message "the account information could not be verified. Press ok to return to authentication mode screen to determine the reason for failure".
We have tried to give the SQL services startup user on remote user account screen but the error is the same.
the domain administrator account exists on security logins of SQL with sysadmin rights.
Can someone help?
Thanks.Hi StelioMavro,
According to your error message, when you install SQL Server 2005 SP3 in your failover cluster, we need to verify if there was other instance that had been removed and the installation did not pass the login check. I recommend you use windows authentication
instead of SQL Server authentication when applying SP3. And the windows account used to run the SP3 setup program must have administrator privileges on the computer where SP3 will be installed.
For more information about how to install SQL Server 2005 SP3 in failover cluster, you can review the following article.

SQL server 2005 SP3 can run SAP B1 2005A SP01 PL51
Hi All,
I could successfully install SAP B1 2005A SP01 PL51 in the SQL server 2005 SP3.
In this link:
http://service.sap.com/smb/sbo/platforms
you won't find it such info.
Why I upgrade, it is caused by the printing error issue using citrix.
Anyone of you that have problem after run the B1 on that SQL, pls share.
Someone who need webex file that shows the install process can request it to me. Let me know.
Rgds,Hi Arshdeep,
Thx for your reply. I just wonder why SAP did not inform the availability SP3 from Microsoft and the explanation about the inapplicable of SP3 for SAP B1 in the B1 platform link.
I have tested without using any steps and any other procedures. Practice is a good lesson to learn for me. Nevertheless, one concern from modern customers are the compatibility or adaptibility of SAP B1 to Microsoft product especially SQL since it is one of database platform.
Old-fashioned customer will disregard that because they will think as long as my SAP B1 and SQL server still run well, I don't care..

BPC 5.1 SP11 with SQL SERVER 2005 SP3
Hi all,
i have a BPC 5.1 SP11 single-server installation.
I know the DB Server prerequisite is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP2 and cumulative update package 8.
SQL Server 2005 SP3 is supported?
is there any document about compatibility?
have i install SP3 before or after BPC Installation?
thanksHI Paolo,
SQL Server 2005 SP3 is supported with SAP BPC 5.1 SP3 or any other later version.
We already installed for few customers SP3 and this patch fix bugs into SSAS and also improve some performances regarding SSAS.
So the recommendation will be to apply this patch in your environment because it will bring just benefits.
If you have multiserver installation remmeber that you have to apply the patch in all servers not just into Database server.

Sql 2005 standard edition for sql and AS databases with bpc 7.0 sp3 ?
hello
Install guide tells that we must use SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition with BPC except for Reporting Services.
Customer asks wether he could use SQL 2005 Standard Edition for SQL database and Analysis Services ?
Thanks.Hello Sorin. Two more questions, please:
1) what do you mean by "Also into Application server you need EE because only in this version you have control flow." ?
Is "control flow" "business process flow" new functionality ?
2) On the other hand, I don't think that BPC admin task is able to handle lite or full optimize without an Enterprise Edition Client.
But customer asks wether it is possible to install on application server
- SSIS standard edition for SSIS service
- SSRS standard edition for Reporting Services
- SQL client Enterprise Edition to let BPC admin task handle lite and full optimize properly.
Why all this ? Because Enterprise Edition costs ten times more than Standard Edition and in a multi-server configuration, customer has to buy several SQL Server licenses, one per server running at least one SQL server service. (For example, with SQL,SSIS and OLAP on one server, and SSIS and SSRS running on the application server, customer has to buy two SQL servers licenses).
Thanks. R. -
Hi, I've tried an UpGrade from 9.3.4294 (2005 SP3 PatchSet 9) to 10.50.1600.1. (SAP media ID 51039339)

I've also tried to change the sa password

SQL 2005 Express on WE POSReady 7
Hi all
We have an issue spwaning with a SQL Express 2005 SP3 on POS machines running WE POSReady7
After running smoothly for over 1 year x4 units over the last 2 months have developed an issue where the SQL engine stops running and wont restart - gives a timeout error when trying to start the service.
I have tried to start sql via cmd line with various traceflags to stop the tempdb being cleared etc.. out but the service will still not start.
this is the issue in SQL logs:

Anyhoo that is the main issue, but i am really asking here is when i try untinstall SQL it uninstalls OK but then re-installs itself after a short period! :S ! is there anything with this version of the OS that could be causing this?????
I removed all components from the Programs & Features > within 5min its back in there, start menu folders back, SQL mgmt console is back etc....I noticed after the uninstall is finished it i see the MSIEXEC process still running.
Ive tried to end the msiexec.exe process after uninstalling finishes and install SQL Express 2005 SP4 it gets part way through and then errors out.
rebooting has made no difference, have tried a number of things. I have ruled out a GPO and login script reinstalling SQL
thoughts? Is the database file you are access corrupted ?
Have you tried any of the latest edition of SQL Express?

SQL Server 2014 supports upgrade from the following versions of SQL Server:
SQL Server 2008 SP3 or later
SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 or later
SQL Server 2012 SP1 or later
However, in our testing, it is possible to upgrade from SQL 2005 SP4 to SQL 2014. There are no messages or detection errors when doing so. Will the final release of SQL 2014 support upgrading from SQL 2005 directly or will there be detection
added to the installation to prevent it?Hello,
SQL Server 2005 won’t be supported as a valid upgrade path when SQL Server 2014 RTM is released as the article you posted states. The behavior you are seeing with the CTP version of SQL Server 2014 maybe is part due to some binaries of the SQL Server 2012
version still in use on the CTP version.
Hope this helps.

Help -- sql 2008 SP3 (x64) and sql 2012 R2 SMO
We have a sql 2008 x64 sql server with SP3. We need to upgrade a third-party app (related to our SAN) and it needs to install
a. Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package (x64)
b. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 CLR Types (x64)
c. Microsoft Sql 2012 R2 Management Objects (x64)
Are there any known compatibility issues installing these on a sql 2008 SP3 server?
TIA,
edm2Hello,
The components you post above are stand-alone packages that provide additional value for Microsoft SQL Server 2012. The installation of these components will not effect the previous installed SQL Server instance.
SQL Server Management Objects (SMO) is a .NET Framework object which can will work with SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, and SQL Server 2012. You can download the SQL Server Management Objects (SMO) and the requisite CLR Types from

Upgrading sql 2005 from sp to sp 3
hi all
i have a question. i need to upgrade my sql 2005 from sp 2 to sp 3 on my live environment because windows7 needs sp3. would there be any issues if i upgrade to sp3?
i just download sp3 into my server and run it?
thanks!
premHi Prem,
Windows7 is not officially supported yet. If you have issue, it must be related to windows7. SP3 should not be an issue.
Thanks,

Browse Data & Parameter flds no longer fully populated after upgd SQL 2005
I upgrade our SQL 2000 Server last weekend to SQL 2005 (sp2).
Now our Crystal reports that access SQL data are not working correctly. Parameter Fields are showing little to no data, where before the upgrade we were seeing many more rows in the list.
Digging further, I looked at the fields used for the dynamic LOV. If I use Browse Data on those fields I am seeing the same lack of data. One "Browse Data" that would typically return 80 items now returns 3 items. In that report the data field is DateTime. In another report, the field is string.
I am also seeing an extra check for User Name and password before getting to the Enter values screen for the parameter.
I am using Crystal Developer 11.0.0.1994. It is happening on multiple PCs. I tried with both the original SQL ODBC Driver and the newer SQL Native Client ODBC driver, with the same result.
I've looked at this for 3 days with no luck. Any ideas?Full SysAdmin rights.
I use a dedicated ODBC connection and have tried both "SQL Server" odbc driver and "SQL NativeClient" (2005) odbc driver.
If I go to Crystal, to the Field Explorer, to the one of the fields, right-click and "Browse Data..." I get two results (I expect 82 results and have seen that in the past.) If I paste the query from Crystal, Database, "Show SQL Query.." to SQL Server Management Studio, I see the full, correct results.
In one example the field browsed is called "PeriodEndDate" (DateTime). A dynamic Parameter Field was created accessing this field. Here is the security curiosity...refreshing now asks for the user login each time "Prompt for new parameter values" is selected. It used to ask only the first time. The Crystal: Data Explorer" shows the current connection logged in ok.
The two issues may or may not be related. Certainly if #1 were fixed, dynamic parameters would return the correct results. Even if it asked for the password each time.
1.) "Browse Data" returning a smaller result than normal.
2.) "Parameter Prompt" asks for Server Name, Database Name, User Name, and Password on
each refresh selecting "Prompt for new parameter values".
