Aluminium Keyboard Update Error

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with installing this update,
Specifically I am getting an error message where the installer can not install some files to "/".
I have repaired permissions before and I get and ACL error in a number of directories which I have read, can be ignored.
I have noticed that there are some permissions problems with writing and deleting files from certain places within my home folder too I wonder if this is related?

It might not need the update, but there is no reason why I should have an unneeded update icon on my launchpad...It's just not right. I just want it out of my computer!! I can hide it with third party applications that configure the launchpad, yes, but it comes back after some days each time. It's not a matter of need, but a matter of being there...always, without a reason. It's bothering me.

  • Aluminium keyboard update not working

Hey everyone! So when I got my mac mini (mid 2011 model), I purchased a third party keyboard with it. I had this Apple Aluminium Keyboard Update, which is supposed to improve battery life on the keyboard, stuck on my launchpad, but when I tried to install it, it said it didn't recognize the keyboard, and I supposed it was because it wasn't Apple branded. Now, I got a legit apple wireless keyboard which works perfectly and same thing happens. A box pops up and says something like (I'm translating it!):
"No wireless bluetooth keyboard has been detected. Make sure the keyboard is paired and connected"
I hate that update on my launchpad, it's really annoying, and I really want to get through with this update! I've tried googling it but found no results...

  • Aluminium keyboard update failure

When I switch the Mac on, it asks me to update the aluminum keyboard. Once I click on the keyboard to update, it says the keyboard is already updated.? When i press Quit, it says that the keyboard is not up to date..do you want to quit? It does not recognize the update procedure, and it seems to loop with update message..can you help?
I have just installed the new OS update, so all firmware updates are current.

  • Error when downloading keyboard update

I have tried to install the new keyboard update. Every time I have tried it downloads but will not install. I get an "unexpected error 18:1 has occurred". I have rebooted and tried again and still get the same problem. Any help will be much appreciated.

I have a similar problem, My Iphone has gone into recovery mode since trying to install 3.1. I have correct updated software ITunes 9, QT 7.6.4, Safari 4.0.3. My iPhone is in recovery mode and when connected to iTunes it is indicated that the phone software is up to date. To recover the phone there is no option provided except to update the software which is 306 MB (20 hours download time for me). the first time I attempted I got an error after 10 hours. Is there another way to recover my phone?

  • Use the new aluminium keyboard on a PC with Windows XP

    Hello all,
That post is describing the problems I have when using the new apple aluminium keyboard on a PC using the windows XP keyboard drivers found on the boot camp CD (1.4)
This is my first post here so please be kind with me
First, let me know in case there is a better section where I should post that post.
I know that what I will ask here may not be a supported scenario. I understand that. But anyway. Here it is.
I am using Windows XP on a PC not a mac computer.
I bought one of the new aluminium keyboards. I love it, it's excellent. I know that the box says it requires mac os X 10.4 and up... I understand al that.
Because it is an USB keyboard, I thought I like it, let's try it on a PC. It worked but the letters on the keyboard are not placed like those on a PC.
Then I tought, why not use the driver for that keyboard provided on the bootcamp CD. I bought the keyboard. I own all my licences, so why not?
First I had a lot of troubles extracting those drivers from the bootcamp CD. I use Transmac for that.
A long story short. It's working and I'm typing that post right now on my cool keyboard.
so why am I here? Because it's not working perfectly.
All the keys are working perfectly, only the companion softwares are not.
I'm unable to launch the bootcamp dashboard, I have the icon in my systray but when I try to open the dashboard I get:
    Boot Camp
An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings.
You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again.
    OK
I understand that. I guess this is related to the boot camp dual boot feature.
I guess that if this was working I could access to the bootcamp option panel and eventually have the opportunity to get access to the keyboard options? maybe I'm guessing wrong.
So, what I'm asking here is for the apple developpers working on the windows drivers for the apple hardware.
Do you think that you could test your drivers on PCs ? I'm pretty sure you could sell some more keyboard to the PC peoples as your keyboards are trully excellent.
The 'problems' I have are the following:
    - I cannot lock or unlock the fn key, what I would like to do is use the F7 to F12 keys by default and press the fn key if I ant to access to the scpecial features, like for sound and CD eject
    - kbrd.exe does not always start automaticaly. And when I start it by hand my computer freezes for about ten seconds
    - the keyboard layout should only be changed for the apple keyboard, not for all the keyboards connected to the PC. Because I have two keyboards attached to my computer, my previous pc keyboard and the new apple keyboard. The layout on the PC keyboard is now the same as for the apple keyboard. this is wrong as it renders my previous keyboard useless. why do I need another keyboard? because that other one is cable less, meaning I can use it to control my PC when I'm not in front of it. But now, with the apple keyboard drivers this is not longer possible
    - an option to have to press fn+eject to eject the CD would be nice. this will avoid me pressing eject by accident when I try to press the back delete key
    - also as the drivers exist, why not let people like me download them outside of bootcamp for the kind of scenario I'm describing here?
That would all be very nice.
If you need a tester for that scenario, count on me,
Thank you for your comprehension about me asking such a question
I love that keyboard and do not intend to stop using it,
    John.

    Hello spidermains,
Happy to see that I have a friend in that adventure
Look I have a blog entry here:
    http://www.happytocode.com/post/Can-I-use-the-new-Apple-USB-Aluminium-keyboard-o n-Windows.aspx
That post describes all the steps I followed to extract the drivers from the dual boot camp CD.
I'm using a PC, only a PC. I do not have any Apple computer (yet).
When I mention boot camp, I mean the boot camp CD on one side and the boot camp utilities on the other side. To be more specific the tool I'm talking about is the kbrmgr.exe
That tool sits in the systray and is handling the special keys of the keyboard.
If you have other questions... let me know,
    John.

  • Separate settings for MBP keyboard and aluminium keyboard?

I just bought myself a Apple aluminium keyboard (USB) and have to say I'm loving it. However, there is one small hang-up.
Basically, whatever key-commands I apply to the keyboard are taking from my MacBook Pro's keyboard settings and seem to have none of their own. I had gotten the impression that there was a stand-alone software to manage the keyboard but that does not seem to be the case as far as I can tell after about 30 minutes of searching the net and Apple's website.
Does anyone know a way in which I can have one set of settings for my laptop's keyboard and another set for my aluminium keyboard?
All relevant software updates, OS X 10.5.2.

Usage of Microsofts Keyboard Layout Creator http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2587

Some gestures are simply not supported in Windows.

  • I can not install the aluminium keyboard to my macbook

I bought the aluminium keyboard to use with my macbook. When I first tried it, it worked fine without requiring me to do any special installation. But it never worked again. I tried to download the software or updates, as specified in the manual, but when I try to open it to run the installation, it keeps saying that I have a newer version and doesnt let me run it.
When I plug it in a PC, it recognizes it as a new hardware, indicating that the USB is fine and that the problem is probably the macbook.
Any suggestions on what to try next?
how do I find the software that "I already have a newer version"?
Is there a way that I can uninstall it and then install it again? would this help?

I just added the HD Cinema display and the Aluminum Keyboard to my MacBook. System Update keeps on trying to update to Alum Keyboard Update 1.0, over and over, but it never stops asking me to update. What's going on, and how can I get this GroundHog Day torture to stop?
I've tried plugging the keyboard into the monitor and the MacBook, but it won't fix the problem.

  • New Aluminium Keyboard Vol/play/pause etc buttons wont work

Hello everyone, thank you for your time.
I'm screaming at my new keyboard, I bought another Apple Aluminium Wireless keyboard to replace my previous one from 2007 that essentially went nuts after the last update.....I couldnt use the up and down arrows, the shift key would "hold itself down" etc.
This new one wont let me use its play/pause, volume mute, down, and up etc buttons....I've remapped several Expose functions and Dashboard to work right, but you cant do anything for the audio control buttons....?
This is too much for me, I'm very angry at this odd problem. It seems SO simple, it should just work like my previous keyboard did....
I cant handle not having control of my iTunes music.... I could keep BOTH my Apple keyboards on and use one for play pause etc, and the other for everything else.....
I have a hint for what the problem might be, it seems this keyboard shows up as the "old" "fat white and clear plastic wireless keyboard", perhaps that keyboard didnt have the same functions as the Aluminium? When it disconnects from my Mac for example, I dont get correct "aluminium keyboard connection lost" side on icon, I get one of the larger older plastic keyboard....
I think this is the problem, that this keyboard identifies as the very old plastic model.....
Im going nuts over this very simple function of a keyboard....my last keyboard blew up after the update....ok, so I have to shell out another $120 NZD for a new keyboard...ok....I'm an Apple fan, I'll choke on my pride, and when it finally arrives, from Australia....it wont control iTunes like I do several times a day....
Can anyone help me? I tried using the firmware updates but it seems like it didnt even identify the keyboard...it showed nothing in the detection box....the keyboard was paired, probably showing up as another model of keyboard.....
    Very annoying!
Thank you very much for your help. I hope you have a great day.

alright its not doing it anymore after a restart. I think it was from plugging in a Logitech wireless mouse keyboard combo but i didn't use the keyboard so i didnt calibrate it. Sorry for the useless post.

  • Booting with new aluminium keyboard

    Hi,
I got the new aluminium keyboard yesterday - seems to be fine but:
While booting there were no keys recognized at all. Neither CMD-V for verbous booting messages nor ALT for selecting either MacOS or BootCamp/Windoze...
Is there still a firmware update pending?
I'm using a Intel MacMini with MacOS 10.4.10, the latest keyboard update and all other published patches and updates...
    Any hints?

    Hi Doug, Hi Paul,
    @Doug:
It seems to me that the new keyboard is simply not recognized by the bootloader/EFI/<whatever>. The girl from AppleCare asked me to check wether booting from the installation DVD works (i.e. booting with the "c"-key pressed) - it doesn't. Booting with CMD-s into single user mode doesn't work either.
So maybe you're right concerning the "standard feature", but if there's no keyboard connected there are no features - and "not connected" and "not recognized" seems to be the same here...
The only other Mac I have probably access to is my old G4-Mini which I've sold to a friend of mine. Besides that there's a different bootloader for PowerPC I don't expect an older Mac to recognize this brand new keyboard better. OTOH my old keyboard (a Macally iKeySlim) still works on my Intel-Mini so I see no reason for distrust here.
    @Paul:
Nice to know that it's not soley my problem
If I understand you right you're saying that on your iMac the keyboard is working correctly - even during boot. Is that right? So you are able to get the boot messages on the iMac when booting with CMD-v pressed (with the new aluminum keyboard of course)?
It would be fine to narrow down the problem a bit to be able to make a meaningful bugreport for the guys @Apple...
    Thank you both so far!
    Matthew

  • Volume keys - aluminium keyboard

I found this problem in an earlier thread: - 'my iMac and aluminium keyboard F10-F12 keys worked perfectly for volume control -mute, decrease & increase respectively, until very recently; I am very new to Macs and have had no major problems up to this point, any suggestions would be very helpful.'
I have the same problem, but when I downloaded the suggested solution (keyboard software update 1.2), but my brand new iMac tells me that a newer version is already installed, so I haven't executed the installation. I am similarly new to Macs - help please!

    Hello,
Go to  menu > System Preferences... > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard tab. Then uncheck the option "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys".
    cheers

  • MB Pro weird since keyboard update

Ever since I let the keyboard update run my Mac is strange. My windows seem to go inactive. For example, while I am typing this it will stop and I have to click on the window to type again. Make sense? It doesn't matter if I have another window open or not and happens around every 10-15 seconds!!!!

Through trial and error I discovered that an old version of Remote Desktop (admin) was causing this. Removed it from my laptop and all is well.
