Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Software Update Issue

I keep getting the Aluminum keyboard firmware software update in Software Update. I install it, but then it shows up again. No matter how many times I install it, it does not go away. Any ideas?

Have you verified in System Profiler that your keyboard has the update installed? Is the stated firmware for your keyboard correct?
For a wireless keyboard:
Open System Profiler.
In the Hardware section of System Profiler, select Bluetooth.
Locate the keyboard in the list of Bluetooth devices.
Look in the Firmware Version field: If the version number is 321, the keyboard has been successfully updated.
For a USB keyboard:
Open System Profiler.
In the Hardware section of System Profiler, select USB.
Locate the Apple Keyboard in the list of USB devices.
Look in the Firmware Version field: If the version number is 0.69, the keyboard has been successfully updated.
If it is not correct, manually download the firmware update and install. If System Profiler says that it has been installed then go into Software Update and tell it to ignore that update.

  • Aluminum Keyboard firmware update FAILURE

I accepted the firmware update yesterday and was asked for my appleID password to confirm installation. After the firmware installation started (listed as "Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0" in the title bar of the installation window, but 1.1 in the software update list), the keyboard just stopped working entirely (although the mouse connected to the USB slot was still functioning) and oddly, I was asked for my password to resume installation. Of course at this point, I had no functioning keyboard to enter the password!
I plugged in a spare MS keyboard to put in the password and continue the installation, which stalled due to some internet issues (still not sure if it's ISP or AirPort related). I woke up this morning to check and the update was still stuck installing. It wouldn't let me close the update without forcing, but I went ahead and stopped it and re-started the firmware update by checking for software updates again. The update asked me for my password THREE times and went through a loop of progress on what appeared to be the same installation screen. After the third time, I received a message that the firmware installation failed.
So now I've completed the firmware update (with an error) and managed to incapacitate my keyboard. Any idea what I can do to get my keyboard working again?
I'm aware of the possibility that the additional keyboard may be causing problems, but being prompted for a password three times during the firmware update necessitates it.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
At this point you may be better off taking the KB to an Apple Store and getting them to install the firmware.
To be honest, I would never do a firmware update with Software Update. As you see, things can go wrong, especially when you are relying on an internet connection. Whenever SU informs me of a firmware update I decline to install and then go to the Apple Downloads page, manually download the update and, following the instructions exactly, install the update manually.

  • Kernel panic when I try to run Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update

    Hi,
I'm trying to run the Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update and every time I try, as soon as I've entered my admin password I get a kernel panic. I've tried it 5 times and it's the same every time - I click Update, I put in the password and bam.
    Anyone else had this?

If you don't get the KP when booting from the internal, then suspect a corrupt installation on the SSD or that the SSD is causing the issue. See

  • 2009 Aluminum keyboard firmware update 1.0 keeps appearing

I recently brought my 2009 Aluminum keyboard from home to work to use with my 15" MBP running 10.8.3 (MBP: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM).
In the App Center there is listed an update for the keyboard, the 2009 Aluminum keyboard firmware update 1.0. I have installed this update at least twice, if
not more, and it continues to reappear as an update. The keyboard works just fine with the MBP, no problems at all. Just curious as what may be the root cause, if known, and what to do about it, if anything other than ignoring the update.

Download this update manually and install it > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL997 Then, that upgrader will appear in /Applications/Utilities, so open it, choose the keyboard and it will be upgraded to the latest version available for that keyboard

  • Aluminum keyboard firmware updater caused my Mac not to boot.

After installing the recent (4/8/08) keyboard firmware update, my iMac G5 refused to boot past the grey apple screen, too. Got the spinning paddle, but multiple hard shutdowns and restarts failed to get it past that point.
I ended up booting the Leopard Install DVD and tried to reboot into my backup, a Superduper clone of the drive from the previous night. Wouldn't do it -- got the same result.
Used Disk Utility (on the Leopard DVD) to repair the disk/permissions. The only significant repair was this:
permissions differ on "private/var/log/secure.log," should be -rw-------, they are -rw-r-----.
Now, I don't know what that means, but maybe it's relevant.
I rebooted -- and still was unable to get past the grey screen. I tried repairing permissions a second time (and nothing unusual came up) and it still failed to fix the startup problem. I also used the repair disk function (between permissions repairs) and that had no effect, either.
Ultimately, I was forced to do an archive and install of Leopard, which then allowed me to boot successfully.
Really disappointing -- this is the kind of thing I expect Windows users to have to deal with, not us.

I have MacMini with Wired Aluminum Keyboard. I have all the current Firmware and Software updates. The computer will not startup with the install disc using the "C" key nor will it start up with my second attached hard drive using the "Option" key. Now if I use my old Black Apple Keyboard both of these functions work beautifully.
The real problem is the lack of knowledge about this on the part of Applecare and the Geniuses at the Apple Store. They don't even know about these discussions on the Apple Site nor any other internet site that is discussing or has discussed this issue.
I wasted 2 hours with Applecare. They had me do the usual things such as resetting the Pram, disconnecting all cables and resetting the startup manager. You name it they just follow the book and waste your time and theirs.
Their final conclusion was that my keyboard was defective so they made an appointment for me to bring it into the Apple Store. The Genius in the Apple Store hooks my keyboard up to another computer. I don't remember which model it was but I know it was not a Mac Mini. Anyhow he comes back and tells me my keyboard is fine. He says the RAM in my Mini has gone bad. So I replace the RAM. Still have the same problem.
Well unless someone in this discussion group can tell me what the REAL problem is, I will keep my old Black Keyboard close by.

  • HT3932 Wireless Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update

I am trying to install the Aluminum keyboard software update. When I click on the file I downloaded from apple (Jan 25, 2010 - long file name) I get a message that says no aluminum keyboard is connected. The keyboard is on, paired and connected (I can type things; show up under bluetooth, etc). What am I doing wrong? The firmware version is way old (050 vs 321).
    Thanks,
    Justin

  • Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 does not install

I just got notification from Software Update that a firmware update for my Apple Aluminum Keyboard was available. I attempted to install it and after three attempts, I got "Unexpected Error (3:4)". That's it. Nothing else. I didn't find any further information associated with the download and no other documentation. I did go as far as removing the keyboard from a KVM switch and USB Hub and connected it directly to my G4 Mac Mini. Still no success. Does anyone have any clue about software/firmware updates for peripherals that fail in this way? I've had the keyboard for about 3 months.

I also had the error "An unexpected error occurred (4:3)" when installing the Keyboard Firmware Update. I resolved the matter by unplugging my KVM switch (and all other USB devices) and by connecting the keyboard directly to the computer.

  • Delayed Response on Wireless Aluminum Keyboard Since the Update

I just updated the firmware on my wireless aluminum keyboard and now there is an annoying noticeable delay between pressing a key and seeing it on the screen. Any ideas how to fix this?

Sorry that I can't help you with this, but FYI I have just updated the firmware on my Aluminium keyboard and haven't noticed any difference in the response.

  • Nokia c3-00 software update issue

    hello nokia,
i got issue when i went to update my 4days new phone from settings, phone, phone updates.... I am connected to wifi network and got internet but checking for new update it showing me that there are no new sw updates (8.70 is the newest which my phone have 8.63 now) . I dont have pc from 1month and dont know when i'll have it and i ask you for little help. Can someone download and send me the update for my phone to download them directly from my nokia ? Please people help me to make my s40 with these updates s60 , just send me that update to my email address: [email protected]

First of all it is not possible in any authorised way to get software update in any way other than Nokia Suite or FOTA(update directly by phone). So one can't send it to you via mail. Secondly if u find a way & do it, the warrantly will go void. Also pls note that the firmware updates are released as per region, product code & network locked/unlocked status. So it is possible that the release isn't available for ur product code.
Please mark the post as solution if it solves your problem.

  • Nokia Software Updater Issue

    Hi Dude,
Hope someone will reply my queries here.
    1) If i m not wrong, Nokia Software updater came along with Nokia NSeries PC Suite 2.0 / Nokia PC Suite is v1.4.0 enUS. If i connect N82 along with NSeries PC Suite, it (NNPCS) recongnise that new firmware is available for N82 as 11.0.117. But when i check the availablity of latest firmware in NSU 1.4.0 it wont detect my phone first of all....
    2) In Nseries PC Suite, if i check for any recent updates available for any application, it says no updates available, but Nokia Software Update, we got the New version as 1.4.23 enUS from Nokia Site. Why NNPCS Nokia NSeries Update Manager does not recognise that NSU got new version 1.4.23 ?
Am i doing anything wrong here? :-(
    Guys anyone please respond ?

    Hi phonatic
I can't unfortunately directly answer your query, however there were problems with NSU v1.4.14en which would not self-update when v1.4.23en was released. I don't know whether this issue was perpetuated in "N" Series PC Suite. See "News" in NSU site: http://europe.nokia.com/A4577225

  • Software Update Issue - In dire need of NERD power...

Attempted to download Mavericks on my 2011 iMac (currently running on OS X 10.6.6)
App Store returned the following error:
We could not complete your purchase.
OS X can't be installed on Macintosh HD because Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later is required.
Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to update Mac OS X.
Not a problem, I thought. I chose Software Update from my Apple menu to update Mac OS X and began downloading Mac OS X Update Combined (10.6.8 v1.1) which maintained a good and consistent rate of 10 MB/sec download speed...
...only to hang abruptly at 655 MB of 1.09 GB
Roughly 30 seconds later I receive the following error:
The update "Mac OS X Update Combined" can't be saved.
Software Update can't connect to the update server.
Make sure you're connected to the Internet, and then try again.
To be clear, I'm familiar with issues regarding and related to TCP/IP protocols, firewalls, open/blocked ports, etc.
I made sure that I was connected to the Internet, and then tried again.
The download progress stays put at 655 MB of 1.09 GB, then returns same error.
At which point I decided it might be a good idea to delete the partially complete download and start over. An Apple Support article directs me to /Library/Updates where the partially complete package parts are temporarily stored and I move them to the Trash.
Every single time I try starting the download over (due to what I suspected might be an connectivity issue that I somehow missed) it always went the same:
Download starts, coasts as 10 MB/sec, hangs at 655 MB of 1.09 GB, and returns the same error.
I thought it was odd that it would always hang at the exact same spot so I checked the /Library/Updates folder while the download was active. The package is downloaded in parts and it would always freeze after completing part10. For testing purposes, I duplicated the part10 file and renamed it as "part11" to see if the installer would recognize the dummy part--AND IT DOES! The download happily chugs past 655 MB and continues to write part12. Obviously, this did not solve my problem because once the download finished it could not compile the parts due to the real part11 being missing. It did, however, at least reveal what the problem was: the server could not retrieve that one specific file, part11.
Sadly, I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be a connectivity issue on my end--if anything, Apple servers are the one with the issue--maybe a corrupted file? All I know is that I've pretty much exhausted all the options in my head and this is my last resort: posting on the Apple Support Communities (not that there's anything wrong with posting here, I just don't expect a genius to pop out of nowhere with a solution in hand).
p.s. my apologies for the lengthy post, I was trying to be as thorough as I could in order to alleviate as much back and forth one-line question and answer posts to save everyone some time :b

Yeah, I actually tried going the manual way not too long after my original post and unsurprisingly, the download would go smoothly only to halt at a certain point again. In fact, I tried downloading not only the MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8 but also MacOSXUpd10.6.8 just to give it a try and that too halted during download.
The most perplexing part is that these download errors exhibited the EXACT same issue of halting at a very specific point. To be doubly sure, I tried downloading multiple copies of the same file at different times with some overlap during the download times (basically started two downloads of the same copy a few mins apart and I got these results.
try#3 - MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8 - stuck at 232 MB of 1.01 GB (kept open in Download window for reference)
try#3 - MacOSXUpd10.6.8 - stuck at 430 of 454 MB (kept open in Downloads window for reference)
    try#4 - MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8 - stuck at 232 MB of 1.01 GB
    try#4 - MacOSXUpd10.6.8 - stuck at 430 of 454 MB
try#5 - MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8 - currently chugging at 61.9 of 1.10 GB, but i'm pretty sure when it's going to stop...
Come to think of it, whenever I tried to update games like "League of Legends", or download/update a Steam game I always get stuck at 33% or 99% respectively. Most recently, I bought "FFXIV:ARR" as a digital download and I haven't been able to get past a very specific point in progression for the game client download as well. So in contrary to my first assessment, it most likely IS a problem on my own end but these "symptoms" seem very clear and specific, I just can't pinpoint the problem. I don't have "connection time-out" problems when doing downloads on my work network, only at the guest house where they assign me a TCP/IP configuration for internet connectivity (which also severely hampers my ability to troubleshoot). On the other hand, P2P is just fine but I suspect that's because it doesn't require a contiguous download.
    TL;DR
Large downloads/updates over one specific network (assigned TCP/IP) always hang at specific point in download completion. Internet connectivity for browsing is fine, P2P downloads are fine.

  • Software update issues - made more problems for me

My Q10 just downloaded a new Software release 10.1.0.4189
I was excited because I had hoped it would solve the issue of the ring tones NOT working for TEXT messages.
NOT ONLY did it not correct that...
    1. BUT I lost all of my videos and pictures in the Media Hide APP...
    2. It duplicated several contacts... not all but some... so that is weird... and honestly it seems to duplicate contacts that are listed by a Business Name.... those were the majority of duplicates.
    3. The little pictures I assign to contacts and the logos for businesses... are messed up... at least the LOGOS for businesses are not self sizing so you can not tell what it is in the contact screen (none of these were issues yesterday)
    4. When I try to delete the duplicates from the contacts... the trash icon jumps to the left when I touch it... and it will NOT let me delete the duplicates... so I am forced to do it thru my OUTLOOK on the computer
I just downloaded the software update 2 hours ago... so I have no idea what else may have gone WRONG with it...
I do not even know what this update was supposed to be fixing... because the text ring tones are all I am MOST upset about loosing and it looks like the wording on the contacts changed to say EMAIL ring tones... instead of text... and I do NOT have one single BBM contact.... so TEXT and BBM should share that feature... since EMAIL is now a stand alone contact ringtone... so many features center around BBM and I have no blackberry friends...

It just seems bizarre that the text/ringtone issue would not immediately be resolved.  Text is the way more people communicate today over vocal calls...and..the feature existed in previous systems. How could it not exist in their newest product??
You had mentioned u downloaded the newest update with the hope the text issue was resolved.  Why did you think it would be?  Did they ..BB..say they had a fix?
Another issue..that perhaps someone could help me with on same issue is that when I text using the q10...the text space is two lines....and if that a text happens to run three lines ...i can no longer see what I am texting...until..it is sent.  Thus makes no sense..as this too was not part of the previous sysems where you were ALWAYS on last letter typed.  Anyone else that that issue and perhaps know the fix?

  • Major Sync and software update issue with windows 7 and iphone

Loved my iPhone 3g and love my 4.0! My only concern is syncing and software updates are sporadic.
When I first purchased and sync'd my 3g on my laptop, that I had since 2005 w/XP home 64bit, it would constantly (1 out of 5 times) show phone was disconnected and could not sync. Purchased a desktop, 2009 w/Vista 64bit (same issue mentioned continued) then upgraded to windows 7 64bit (same issue mentioned continued).
Both pc's are authorized and contain the same apps and software. I went through all trouble shooting steps (authorize/deauthorize, phone hard boot, sync w/airplane mode on and/or off, uninstall and or reinstall iTunes, etc...) when both phones would brick after software updates on both pc's.
The last software update 4.0 and most recent 4.2.1 went well on laptop with XP and no longer shows sync issue. The problem continues on the windows 7 and backup has completed successfully 3 times.
Long story short, I have to pray the laptop never dies because iTunes, syncing and software updates on XP works now! The problem with software update, backups and syncing persists on windows 7.
    * I was able to apply 4.2.1 software update on XP and then connect to windows 7 to sync and backup successfully. I then disconnected/reconnected iphone to windows 7 and problem happened again, unable to sync phone was disconnected error message.

I've had my new pc for over a year, never had any probs syncing my iphone (then a 3G but now the big 4!)
I went to sync updates to Apps and a couple of tunes I had downloaded straight to my phone only to get an error message 'iTunes has stopped working - windows is checking the problem' followed by another messaged telling me there was a problem causing the program not to work correctly. Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is found'
Well..... I have NO music on my iPhone and every time I try to sync, the same error messages come up and the bloody program shuts down....

  • OS X 10.8.2 Software update issue

I’m having the following problem with my mid-2011 MacBook Air.  I believe it started subsequent to upgrading to iTunes 11.0.  Here’s what happens when selecting “Software Update” from the Apple Menu.
Software “Updates” tab: “We could not complete your App Store request.  The App Store is temporarily unavailable.  Please try again later.”
“Purchases" tab:  A black screen with the wording “One moment please. Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading…  If iTunes doesn’t open, click the iTunes application icon in your dock or Windows Task Bar, to download iTunes please click here.”
The net effect is I am a) unable to check for software updates and b) view software purchases.
Any help on resolving this issue would be most appreciated.

I don't use any iTunes Store stuff, so you'll have to check that out.

  • Software Update issues on 2012 MacBook Pro 15"

Picked up my shiny new MBP today and set about installing everything on it, and running software updates.
    It's currently running 10.7.4.
The software updates were glacially slow, but I waited, did other work on my iMac and eventually, they completed.
Then installed iWork '09, and run software update again.
Again, the software update was slow, so I tried downloading the iWork 6 / 9.1 patch manually.
17KB/s. Connected via wifi. Said it would take an hour to download a 78Mb patch.
I tried downloading the same file on my iMac.
    50KB/s.
Tried running a test download from my ISP's test site on the MBP.
    634KB/s - ie: normal.
I've since downloaded (on the MBP!) patches for Office, a bunch of different apps, and download speeds were on par with my iMac, and what I expect from my network in general.
Right now it's downloading the Jave JRE from Apple via ethernet and is, once again, glacially slow.
So this isn't a "Why is my MacBook Pro is slow on WiFi?" discussion, it's a "Why are my downloads from Apple servers so slow, and why is my 2012 MacBook Pro with Lion almost 1/4 the speed of my 2007 iMac with SL?"
And am I the only one?

Hey, thanks for your idea, but it seems to have set me back even further.
Initially, I couldn´t use the disk utilites on the start up disks I have, as the Disk Ultility kept crashing. So, I connected my MBP to another mac (G4)  in target disk mode and used the other G4´s disk utility to repartition the disk as GPT, as it was set to Apple partition.
So the disk is now Mac OS extended Journaled and the partition scheme is GUID partition Table.
I then disconnected the two macs and booted the MBP up from the startup disk again to run the installation.
But, now, the installation doesn´t even see the harddrive at all.
So, I double checked the harddrive is fine.  By connecting it a second time to the G4, in target disk mode, and ran dick verification and repairs..... the G4 can see the drive and it´s telling me everything is perfect.
I really think this is a software issue, rather than a hard-drive one, as I seem to be going around the houses, repartioning and reformatting the hard-drive which seems to be working perfectly when connected to any other computer.
    Any other thoughts?
