I want to merge cells for columns having similar records.Is their any functionality in fieldcatlog.

Can I display a multi-line text block (i.e. a paragraph of text) in an ALV grid cell?
If yes, what properties do I set in the Field Catalaog (I tried the style and that didnt seem to work)

By default ALV Grid merges fields with same values vertically.
Isn't that only when the column is part of the sort key? You also have to consider the user changing the sort sequence, which can make the text jumbled up. In one of my reports I have made the cell a hotspot and displayed the text in a popup. Of course you cannot print it.

Button in alv grid cell using REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY

Hi all,
I want to make the contents of 2 columns of my alv grid as push button with values as text on it. I am not using classes or methods but alv grid fm. On clicking the button one dialog box has to pop up which gives edit option for the values in that coloumn, my question is how to introduce button in alv grid cell? if i can use t_fieldcatalog-icon, then please give me the complete steps for that.

Multiple Lines in a Single ALV Grid Cell

Is there any way to Display Multiple Lines in a Single ALV Grid Cell.
This can be accomplished by Sorting the First 3 fields and Make it Looks like below displayed format.
But My problem is while downloading also it should be Displayed in the same format.
All inputs are highly appreciated.

what u can do is...
arrange ur final internal table so that it will look like same line...
like...lets say ur internal table is :
A1 B1 C1 D1 123

A1 B2 C1 D1 123
A1 B2 C2 D2 123
and u can rearrange ur table to be like
A1 B1 C1 D1 123
C2 D2 123
A1 B2 C1 D1 123
C2 D2 123
what i mean to say is dont pass the fields if they are same in the previous line... try it out..
and then pass it two ur ALV.
it will look like they are in one line

Buttons in ALV Grid cell need focus to be clicked :-(

Hi,
I have an ALV Grid with single cells displayed as buttons (dependend on the data in the corresponding row). Unfortunatelly the button-cells need focus to be clicked. So you need two clicks: one to get the focus to the desired cell and one to really click the button.
Any ideas how to make this work with one single click ? (Setting a hotspot does not work, cause hotspots have the same problem.)

How to display tooltip in ALV GRID CELL?

Hello,
I'm trying to display dynamic tootips for data in ALV GRID Cells.
My ALV Gid Cells content does not display Icon or symbol or Exception but pure data (In my case dates).
Is there a way to do display a toolip that will change dynamicaly according to a rule.
I took a look at the BCALV_DEMO_TOOLTIP program
but it does not answer my expectation since it display
toltip for Icon or symbol or Exception.
Can someone help on this case.

Symbols can usually be printed, but may not always be output correctly, depending on the printer configuration.

ALV Grid: Cell not available for selection

ALV GRID.
How can I make a cell(or an entire column) not available to be selected?

I was able to forbid users to click on cells that has got null values by:
a) declare the column as hotspot when you are building the fieldcatalog (fieldcatalog-key = 'X')
b) inside the form "user_command", after reading the data inside the internal table, use something like:
if wa_it_alldata-accounting_doc_nbr ne space.
processing logic
endif.
wa_it_alldata would be the internal table and can be prefilled by something like:
read data table, using index of row user clicked on
READ TABLE it_alldata_f INTO
wa_it_alldata INDEX rs_selfield-tabindex.

I want to create one alv report in abap. Acutually i need a output in report like machine number , machine name, model,

in my opinion you will not be able to do that in a ALV grid
the only way to do it is to build a HTML content and to display it into HTML viewer
then the images should be loaded as mime objects (SMW0) and not as text elements (SE78)

How to make OO ALV Grid cell is required on data_changed?

I want to make grid cell is required on data_change method. I have two fields dependent each other, so i insert a value on a field, the other field should be obligatory.
I have tried to solve this with "add_protocol_entry" method. But i don't want to display message log. The second field should be drawn with red border.

I have an idea, how about that you add one more field in your table structure for obtain information about color about each cell. such as "color TYPE lvc_t_scol " and then in your lvc_s_layo, you should fill CTAB_FNAME = 'COLOR'.
Insert this code into your program. (it's a template)
READ TABLE itab WITH KEY <k1> = ..... ASSIGNING <fs>.
APPEND INITIAL LINE TO <fs>-COLOR ASSIGNING <fs_l>.

WEB DYNPRO ALV GRID : CELL CONTENT - Initial Value

I created a sort of 'Timesheet' in web dynpro...
Unfortunatly, for all days of the month it displays '0.00' as initial value...
Is it possible to not display this initial value or display space/empty ?
In gui alv it is possible, I don't know if it could be done in web dynpro

For the node to which the ALV is bound. For the column (context attribute) check the property of the attribute check the formatting propertioes as ZEROS AS BLANKS
for ex: price is the context attrbiute check the properties.
This FORMATTING options for the context attribute is found in the latest verions like EHP4.

ALV Grid bug when dealing with non-ASCII character

Dear all,
I have a requirement to display user's remarks on ALV. The data element of the remarks column is TEXT200. I know that each column in an ALV Grid can display at most 128 characters. Since my SAP is an Unicode system, I expect that each column in my ALV Grid can display 128 Chinese characters, too. However, the ALV Grid only display 42 Chinese characters at most. Is this a bug in ALV Grid? How can I fix it?
I did a small experiment. The results are listed below. My version is Net Weaver 7.01. The results show that the bug does not exist in ALV List. However, my user prefers ALV Grid, which is more beautiful and elegant.

It looks like limitation of ALV grid cell, which can contain up to 128 bytes in SAP gui.
Your unicode characters are probably 3 bytes each.
Check OSS Note 910300 for more detailed info.
EDIT: Note 1401711 seems to be a correction for your issue It allows to use 128 characters (even if they take more than 128 bytes).

Focus to a webdynpro alv grid column after report_element_t100_message

Hi All,
I have an alv grid on my view. When I click a button, I'm making some checks for editable cells and if necessary giving a message to the user by using report_element_t100_message method. After the message, I'm setting focus to the alv grid cell . If I don't give a message, my set_focus code works fine, but I must give a message , so how can I achive this? Isn't it possible setting to a cell after a message?

Color individual rows in an ALV Grid

Hello,
in an ALV grid I have to distinguish between certain values in the rows so I wanted to use different colors. I see how to change the color of the columns but cannot work out how to change individual row color. I don´t see any values for this in 'Fieldcat'.
