ALV print font control

Hello,
I have an ALV report with 10 columns. When I print the output, I get the output as a landscape (which is fine) but with very small font. I manually changed the print format from X_65_255 to X_58_170 and the print looked much better. I am wondering if we can control or default the format I need inside my program? I am using REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY FM. Please let me know.

X11 printing font controls

I continue to have problems controlling my printer from some OS X applications (emacs and xemacs, to be specific). While I can print from emacs without apparent difficulty, xemacs is, at the moment, at lost cause. My latest bete noire for emacs is my inability to alter the default printing font, which appears to be a 14 point monospaced font. Since it is printing a page that is composed in 11 point monospaced font, there is no way for programs, their headers, or anything else to come out correctly. By contrast, in a program like vim, also running under X11, the display font is exactly the same as the printing font and so the text appears on the printed page exactly as it does on screen. While I understand this to be an emacs problem, I'm 100% convinced of this. As proof, if I lpr the file directly outside of emacs or vim, the file prints in 14 point monospace type. I have the default font for OS X applications set to be 11 point True-type font and I can control that directly from the Printer Setup or Page setup panel within any OS X application.
There HAS to be a default font setting buried deep in the bowels of the Unix configuration (.bashrc, .profiles printer.conf, somewhere) but I've been unable to locate the precise place to change this so that my X11 applications all print through lpr in a uniform 11 point font.
Any suggestions on where to start drilling for font oil?

Report Spool Printing Font Change

Hello All,
While printing the spool request created by ABAP report(ALV) print document is not much clear due to small font , is there any technique to change the font size while printing the spool request or any technique to print horizontal line between each row into spool like vertical line between each column so that it can be understandable.

In my case, I found that SAP was calculating the max line size for the printout, based on the maximum possible number of output columns, as determined from the field catalog. That resulted in SAP setting 512 and reducing the font on landscape output to the point that a microscope was needed! I fixed by limiting the output of some columns (splitting texts into multiple rows of ALV, along with the essential key fields), and setting my max line size to 200. The resulting printout is small, but still readable.
layout - max_linesize = 200.

Printer fonts not maintained

Hi,
A batch job has failed with the error "No printer fonts maintained for ARCHIXOS"
ARCHIXOS is the device type. However instead of ARCHIXOS being called, it should call device type ZSWINCF, where all the fonts are maintained.
The job calls program RM06ENDR_ALV. This program is used for printing and archiving purchase orders.
1) What changes should I do so that the job does not fail again?
2) How can I rectify the already existing PO's which are refering to the wrong device type?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Following is the procedure we are using to configure and test MICR printer and it's devices:
I hope this will help you to understand the config stuff.
1. Font verification
Once the SIMM/DIMM or Secure Font Module is installed, print the PCL Font List (through the printer control panel) to verify that the module was installed correctly and to verify the escape sequence of the fonts.
2. Creating custom device type
Once it is confirmed that printer is capable of printing MICR font, we need to create custom device type for this printer.
 Execute transaction code SPAD
 Select Full administration button to expand all available options
 Select Device Types tab
 Type HP5MI for Device types and press Display
 Press Change button
 Go to Utilities -> For device types -> Copy device type to ZHP5MI.
 Edit Print Control for the new device type ZHP5MI.
 Scroll down to Print Control for MICR E-13B 10pt which is SF450. (This is device specific)
 In the Control Character Sequence column, enter the hexadecimal escape sequence for the MICR E-13B 10 point of the printer. (This is printer/hardware specific).
The value for current printer hardware is: 1B28384D1B28733070382E30356831302E30763073306231303054
3. Creating new output device
 Execute transaction code SPAD
 Click on Change button
 Click on Create button
 Enter an output device name as Accounting check printer
 Enter newly created device type (ZHP5MI)
 Select default spool server
 Select host spool access method as c: direct operating system call
 Enter host printer as share print name on server (accounting)
 Save the setting.
4. Test MICR font printing
 Execute transaction SO10
 Select SAP script SAPSCRIPT-MICRTEST
 Click on display
 Initiate print for displayed text
 Check out if MICR font is properly printed.

Smartform-PDF-Printer fonts

Hi Folks,
Here we have designed a Invoice-smartform and converted it into PDF which is by default storing in c-drive as mentioned in the code.When we open the Pdf it is displaying it fine but when given a printout except the logo nothing is getting printed,I mean it is showing all junk characters.May I know what is the problem and how to rectify the same.

In some device types (e.g HPLJ4, HPLJ5) you experience non-uniform character spacing in the PDF document after the PDF conversion of SAPscript or Smart Forms documents, using HELVE or TIMES fonts. You want to know the reason.

The problem is not due to an error in the PDF converter but due to the fact, that the printer font, underlying the device type (e.g. Univers or CG Times in PCL-5 device types), is not available for the PDF converter and is either not available in Adobe Reader. The PDF converter has to try to simulate the layout of the printer font by means of a font which is predefined in Adobe Reader. This is done by assigning the letter widths of the printer font to the font used in Adobe Reader.
The PDF file contains a table with letter widths, used by Adobe Reader in the output of text, for each used printer font (except PostScript fonts).
Example:

Adobe reader converts this width table, by modifying the space between each character, so that the specified letter width (= space between the current and the next letter) is kept.
This 'Simulation' of printer fonts results in the sometimes visible irregular spaces in PDF.
The PDF converter always uses the Helvetica Adobe PostScript font for the display of HELVE and the Times Roman Adobe PostScript font for the display of TIMES. However, for these Adobe PostScript fonts, Adobe Reader often uses a Windows TrueType font, which differs slightly from the original PostScript font.
Solution
Workaround: Use the POST2 PostScript device type or the PDF1 PDF device type for the PDF conversion of documents in the Latin-1 character set. They both use the Adobe PostScript fonts Helvetica or Times Roman for the HELVE/TIMES printer fonts.

Solution
When using SAPscript or SmartForms to print (or email or fax) a form from a business application, many factors influence the outcome of the actual text within the form. All these factors must be checked in order to ensure a correct printout:
1) The language version of the form used to produce the printout.
Example: If you want to print a French invoice, you need to have a FR version of your SAPscript or SmartForms invoice form RVINVOICE01. And the application program must specify the corresponding language key (FR) when calling the SAPscript or SmartForms API.
2) The font selections specified in the form (possibly also in a SAPscript style or SmartStyle used in a form).
Example: In a SAPscript form or a SmartStyle you need to specify HELVE if you want to print German text in Helvetica (or similar) font. If you want to print Japanese text, HELVE is not a valid choice but you need to specify a Japanese font like JPMINCHO in your Japanese form.
3) The output character set of the device type
Every printer in transaction SPAD has a "device type" assigned. Device types used by the spooler for printing support only one single specific output character set. All text from the form has to be converted (using SAP's built-in character conversion mechanism) to this output character set.
A character set can typically support either a single language (e.g. Shift-JIS which supports only Japanese) or a set of languages (e.g. ISO 8859-1, which supports Western-European languages). It is possible that a given language (such as German) can be supported by several output character sets, e.g. you may use either ISO 8895-1 (Latin-1) or ISO 8859-2 (Latin-2) to represent German text. This is so because both character sets contain the special characters used in German.
Example: HPLJ4000 is a HP LaserJet device type supporting the ISO 8859-1 (Latin-1) character set. ISO 8859-1 can be used to represent e.g. Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish but NOT Russian or Japanese.
As a consequence, it is ok to use HPLJ4000 to print English, German French etc. but not for Japanese or Russian.
4) The set of available printer fonts for a given device type
When formatting a document, SAPscript and SmartForms perform an automatic mapping of the font definitions in the form (e.g. "HELVE 14 point bold") and the available printer fonts of the device type. A replacement printer font is chosen, should the specified font selection not be available in the device type. Now this replacement can be problematic if a language-specific font, such as Chinese CNSONG, is specified in a form and it gets replaced by a font which does not support this language, e.g. COURIER.
To solve this problem, font families in SE73 have language attribute assigned, e.g. some fonts are characterized as being suitable only for certain languages. And when a replacement has to be chosen because the original font from the form is not available in the device type, a replacement font is chosen which has the same language attributes.
If no fonts for the language in question exist in the device type, the resulting font will not be able to print the special characters and you will see "wrong" output characters in the printout.
Note on SAPscript/SmartForms Print Preview:
The OTF Print Preview available in Windows GUI (e.g. from transaction SP01) will sometimes not show the "wrong" characters which appear on the final printout. Here is the reason: since the Print Preview runs in Windows environment, it will use Windows fonts to represent the actual printer fonts. A Windows font typically has more available characters (i.e. covers more character sets) than are actually available in a printer's resident font.
A typical example where the Print Preview will differ from the printout is here: if you have a Chinese PCL5 printer such as CNHPLJ4 and use the Western Latin font COURIER in your document, the print preview will show you Chinese characters if you (by accident) tried to format Chinese characters in COURIER font. This is because Windows will automatically choose a font that can output Chinese characters (which is actually not Courier). But when you print the job on an actual PCL5 printer with resident Western and Chinese fonts, the Courier font will not print any Chinese characters but Western special characters instead, because the printer's resident Courier font does not include Chinese characters.
Rule of thumb: all Asian device types (e.g. CNHPLJ4, JPHPLJ4, JPPOST, KPHPLJ4) support not only Asian fonts but also COURIER, HELVE and TIMES fonts. But these Latin fonts can only be used to print English text, not Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters.

Verify your output by examining the OTF data
When analysing printing problems of this type, be sure to check the OTF data which gets produced by SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF or "Output Text Format" is the intermediate page-description format generated from SAPscript or SmartForms. OTF will contain the final printer font names and character set/language identifiers which help to solve the problem. OTF will even name the form and the language of the form used to create the output.
The easiest way to do this is to create a spool request from your application, run transaction SP01, use menu
Goto->Display Requests->Settings
and choose
Display Mode: Raw
Now display your spool request. If this is a SAPscript or SmartForms spool request, you will see OTF data. Each line represents one OTF command, every command starts with a 2-character cmd identifier and possibly some cmd parameters follow.

Finally, the FC-cmd (Font Call) lists a printer font selected within SmartForms. Please note that every SmartForm has a designated default SmartStyle under "Form Attributes->Output Options". In addition, every text node can have a SmartStyle attached (which will override the definitions from the default style for the text). In our case the resulting printer font that was selected is HELVE 12.0 pt bold-off, italic-off.

Gnucash and print fonts

hi,
I've got problems with gnucash printing (including print previews) reports/invoices out in very large font faces. The display of the report is correct in the gui, arial 10pt.
I do believe its defaulting to Times, although it could be helvetica...not sure, but the main problem is the fontsize being defaulted to 12point and bigger.
I've searched all over the system for a config directive to be able to force gnucash to arial 10pt but haven't found anything.
Googleing the problem seems to yield the fact that many are having the problem, but the fixes are in regards to pre 2.0.
(Using gnucash from the community repo)
any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed you haven't had a reply for a while and thought I'd mention quickly that:
Unfortunately the font sizes when printing are controlled by gtkhtml and not gnucash directly. Apparently using the gnome control panel ... or whatever ... should allow you to adjust them but this has been fruitless for me under KDE.
The best suggestion I have seen is to export to HTML and adjust but that is a pain.
I just comment out the unneeded columns from the invoice.scm file and everything fits with the default font.
Sorry ... but that's it. Hopefully that will be something they address in future developments.

In the layout give layout-sel_mode = 'A'. and
pass 'A' to i_save exporting parameter to method set_table_for_first_display.
The same thing if you are working with function module
reuse_alv_grid_display.

How can I print a LabView report using the printer font (not a windows font)?

My printer is connected via a com interface. For speed reason I have to use the font of the printer. I use the report generation VIs to generate my report. With the VI "Set Report Font.vi" its possible to choose a font but I think only windows fonts are accepted.
Printing from "WordPad" using printer fonts is no problem, just select font "15 CPI" for example. But how does it work with LabView?

Have you already tried this in LabVIEW? What results did you receive when you tried it?

Front end printing with control technology problem with Mac platforms

Hello,
We are looking into replacing Host Spool Access method "F: Printing on front end computer" with the newer "front end printing with control technology" but are running into an issue. Our Mac platforms cannot print duplex nor print multiple pages per side using the new technology. We have followed SAP's recommendation to use the POST2 device type but it still won't allow full printing functionality. Has anyone run into this and if so how did you overcome it?

I've had success getting duplex printing through "front end printing with control technology" with the Mac SAPgui as follows:
In the Mac SAPgui, go to the Preferences window and select Printing (i.e. Preferences -> Desktop -> Printing).
In the "Media sides" pull-down menu, select one of the "two-sided" choices (such as "two-sided-long-edge").
Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window (near the right hand side.
Print to a Front end printer.
I haven't figured out how to get n-up printing.

How do I underline an email address to be sent? There are no font controls available to me or underline option.

An email address I need to send to is underlined on their business card. The font control or underline option is not available to me in write new message. Mail keeps getting returned to me. The address I need to send to is a county/state address ending in .wi.us and it is underlined.

CS6.0 & CS5.5 Master Collection InDesign Font Control bar & Characters Panel not Functioning

Hi, I am a college student and our college a year ago sent me CS5.5 Master Collection InDesign at that time the font control bar was not functioning correctly on my PC. Our class was about Adobe Illustrator so our instructor rather than deal with it had us just cut and paste things into MS Word.
Now a year and half later I am taking a college course in Adobe Photoshop . . CS6.0 Master Collection InDesign once again the collection is the Student and Teacher Licensing for Windows. The same thing is happening now we are REQUIRED to this semester to create a Calendar using our own photos and create a INDESIGN layout using our photos we took for our course. In this version of CS6.0 InDesign I figured they would of fixed it by now, but the "Control Panel is still not working, nor is the Character Panel that you pull up to the side of InDesign. I am able to use the pull down menus and do things from there, but the point of taking this course was to learn the software, how can we students use the software if it is not functioning properly.
NOTE I AM EXPERIENCEING THE SAME THING WITH ALL SIDE PANELS NOW TOO.
Oh yes it changes the font name when you use the pull down window from the top menu, but it is not allowing us to use the CONTROL BAR just under the MENU BAR, nor the side panel I pulled up and am showing there. In ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR I can use the character panel just fine, but not in InDesign.
In Illustrator when I go to launch it I get this error, I have done as it asked but it still is bring this up at launch. I can go in and use Illustrator just fine, except for this error.
Someone thought I may of installed it incorrectly, so I removed all ADOBE software from my computer ran maintenance and virus scans and reinstalled the software, a whole day wasted, but it still is doing the same thing.
a) Thinking that this is a limitation placed on the software by Adobe because it is a Student Teacher Edition?
b) There's a problem with having OpenType and TrueType fonts on hand?
c) Adobe has a software problem that they have yet to resolve?
d) There is something somewhere within the software I need to flip a switch on?
Our instructor I gather who owns his own business his works just fine on his PC, but then because it is his business software it makes me think it has to do with the Student Teacher Edition.
I have more than enough RAM and hard drive space the Processor is a AMD A8-3800 APU with Radeon(tm) HD. Graphics is 2.40 GHz. It is a 64-bit Operating System. Oh I am using a Windows OS 7.0 Professional .
This is the only piece of software that I have come accross that will not function correctly on my computer system since it's purchase Jan of 2012.

There is no difference between the commercial and educattional versions of the products other than the license terms. The software itself is the same.
Since you are on windows 7, the first question is are you using large fonts in the Windows interface? Large fonts combined with an Aero theme are deadly to ID. See InDesign tools and panels don't respond to mouse clicks (Windows 7/Vista)
If this doesn't apply, the next thing to try is replacing your preferences. See Replace Your Preferences
Do you use a font manager? If so, which one?
Does the account you are using have adminsitrator privileges? Shouldn't matter, but it would be worth trying a new account that does.
It's still possible that the installation failed in some way. That Illustrator error certainly makes it look like a strong possibility, and there may have been some left-over crud from the first failed install that was not replaced the second time. If the things above don't clear up the problems, I would suggest Deactivating the suite from an applicatin that will open, and uninstalling again, then run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) which will remove all traces of the previous installations. Reboot, then before reinstalling run MSConfig and turn off all non-essential startup programs and services, especially any virus or maware scanners, third-party firewall, instant messengers, iTunes and all browser helpers and toolbars, then close MSconfig and reboot. Log in as an Administrator (the actual Adminsitrator account would be best, but it may not be turned on). When the warning comes up about diagnostic mode continue to boot (cancel MSConfig if it opens), then run the installer again. You can now run MSconfig to restore normal startup and reboot once more.

I just had to search the DVD SP Apple Discussion Forum to confirm what I still have great difficulty believing:
That in this FOURTH edition of a "high-end" authoring app, there are STILL no basic font controls, whether for text boxes or text as buttons. You can pick the font, the size, the color, the justification, and turn a shadow on or off -- fine.
But what about leading (the spacing between selected lines)?
What about kerning (the spacing between selected characters)?
What about baseline and tracking controls?
These kinds of text-formatting functions are WAY overdue, especially for an app that claims to be in the "Pro" category. And the workaround -- having to create special graphics in Photoshop just to do some simple adjustments to line and/or character spacing??? -- c'mon.
Please, please, PLEASE get some reasonable font functionality into DVD SP ASAP! (And I'm talking a 4.3-esque update; NOT a wait-till-v5-in-FCStudio3 Upgrade.)

I wouldn't be surprised if more integration with the features of that OS-based font panel that pops up in DVDSP will be included in future releases. Much emphasis has been placed on the strength of DVDSP as a design as well as an authoring tool. The Apple Pro Training Series books I teach from dedicate the first half of the book to using DVDSP's design tools (which I never thought had much to do with authoring at all, but there you go.)
However, I discovered another issue you should probably take into consideration any time you plan to use DVDSP's menu design features. Using any of these features, text objects, shapes, or any of those doodads or whangdoodles or gewgaws that show up over there in the Palette, it will cause any still menus with any audio or duration to be rendered as motion in your project. This isn't much of an issue, until you need to make a disc that uses lots of still menus with audio.
I have done a few discs that include several hours of music over many still menus. On the last one, I tried to use some text and palette graphics for navigation. I set up probably 30 menus before I started adding the audio. When I put the audio on the menus, my disc size went from 8MB to 10GB. A quick test showed that it was the palette graphics and DVDSP text that was preventing the menus from being treated as stills with audio, instead of rendering them as motion menus. Not only that, but all that rendered motion got embedded in my project bundle, making my project file balloon to serveral gigs as well.
One more reason I almost always just go the photoshop route...

Why ist the printed font size smaller then the choosen font size in pages

sorry about my english it´s a lot of years agoo i used it.
since a cuple of months i choosed a mac mini to be used as my favorit pc-system. Now i am using pages to create letters and stuff like greeting cards, posters, flyers and so on.
In this i´ll find a problem between the choosen font sizes and the printed paper.
If i choose a font and size like arial 12, and start the print job of the lettert with my Printer (Samsung 3170 MFC or Samsung 315), the size of the printed font is very smaller than the in pages choosen font (seen on the screen.
If i use MS offce it is the right size on the screen as on the printet paper.
What do i wrong?

Maybe because your document isn't displayed at 100% but at 120% on your screen.
On my iMac, to get the same size on screen and on paper, the zoom factor must be 142% which can't be done thru the available interface.

Why is the printed font so small on a print job I send from my email to my new HP Photosmart C510? I sent it via HP ePrint from a lotus notes based email account. It was just a text message but it was so small on the print out I could not begin to read it.

At the document you plan to print, go to "file" in upper right corner. Select "print preview". Atop that window, select font size. Recommended minimum 60%. May need to adjust with different documents.
