ALV splitter in background job
Hi,
I am using a splitter container to display 2 grids in the report output. This gives a dump when scheduling the report in background job.
I was able to find a few replies that using a docking container can solve this issue. But I am not able to find a way how to use a docking container to display 2 grids.
Is there any other way to display a splitter container with 2 grids in a background job?
Please advise.
Regards,
Immanuel.
Hi Immanuel,
If you are executing the your reprot in the Backgournd, how you are go'g to disply the ALV detals as like foreground..
because of the Background process your container logic is going dump.
You can do one thing.
IF SY-BATCH NE 'X'. " Only for the foregound
"Do your contrainer or display logic as for foreground
ENDIF.
Note: one more thing that you can split the ALV grid using the Docking property ...but it is only in the Foreground only.
Hope it this info helps you.
Regards!

ALV, initialization and background job
Hi,
I've got a basic report that is causing some problems.
On my selection screen there are 2 buttons ,say Button 1 and Button 2. If you click button 1 set gv_var to 'A', click button 2 and gv_var is set to 'B'.
IF sy-ucomm = 'PB_1'.
gv_ var = 'A'.
ELSEIF sy-ucomm = 'PB_2'.
gv_var = 'B'.
ENDIF.
In the initialization section gv_var is initialized to A.
When I execute this report in the foreground there are no problems. However, when I Execute it in the background gv_var doesn't change. It just stays at the value it was set at in the Initialization section.
Any ideas?Hi,
Please note that AT USER-COMMAND will not get triggered for background jobs.
Even your custom defined Menu bar will not be available for Background jobs.
The reason is: According to SAP system, you have scheduled a job, and the job is run. And if the job status is completed, you will view the output.
There you cannot capture the Sy-ucomm value, since according to SAP system the job is completed, meaning that the report is run and the output is displayed. No more events can be triggered at that place.
Which is not the case with foreground mode, since, until you leave the program, the program is still under execution only.
Best Regards,

Hi,
We have an report in which we are using FM :- REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY.
In forgroud the Report Header is getting displayed only Once.
When we run the report in background, we are getting in spool in which there are "Page Break and Header" in every page.
Downloading the report to MS Excel from Spool is creating setting problem.
Please tell me "how can we do so while running the report in background, "Page break and header dosen't create i.e only One Header and One Page"
Waiting for reply..
Saurabh GargHi Saurabh ,
Use TOP-OF-LIST instead of TOP-OF-PAGE.
Please check this sample with different events in ALV-GRID.

Alv report in background job - Unable to see all columns
Dear Gurus,
I tried to run an ALv report in the foreground and it works perfectly fine and shows 42 columns. But when i run it in the background, the resultset only contains 12 columns. Is there a particular reason why this is happening. What steps can i take to remedy this.
~thanks, appreciate it.You do it like this...
REPORT zdummy_sandbox NO STANDARD PAGE HEADING line-SIZE 255.
Where LINE-SIZE is the size of your report screen and 255 is the max size (Maybe more or less..not sure)...basically, the ABAP standard line size for reports is kinda short...so if your ALV got 42 columns, you need to extends the size of the report output to make everything fit -:)

Error in ALV list at background job
Hello,
I am executing one custom report in bckground with layout 'Z_65_400'.After executed, it created spool. If we will try to look the output by using our spool, the layout is truncating. Here , in SP01. based on our spool, in menu bar->GOTO->REQUEST ATTRIBUTES->In this screen, it is showing X_65_255'Format. I tried all basic ways to resolve the issue.I am thinking that this is coming due to 'SAPKB62064(SAP_BASIS).I tried in sap service market place also.Could you please give the solution in detail .
Thanks and Regards
NTRHi NTR,
Pass the error records into a separate internal table and append them. once the Background processing was completed then loop on that error internal table and list them in the Basiclist for the identification.

Running the alv report in background and sending it thro email
hi,
i have to run the alv report in background and send the output through emailHi
Many a times there is a requirement to display ALV Grid (not ALV List) in the background Job. I have checked the SDN Forum for the same and it has been mentioned that ALV Grid cannot be displayed in Background, but the list output of ALV is possible. So user wont have the actual Grid interface but the List interface.
There is a workaround to display ALV Grid in Background Job. The only restriction is you cant schedule the job through SM36. You need to execute the transaction of the report program, fill in the selection screen data and hit Execute.
The job would be executed in background. User will be able to see the Job Log and Job Status after executing the program. User doesnt have to go to SM37 to view the job status/log. Once the Job Status is changed to COMPLETED, user can click on DISPLAY SPOOL to view the ALV Grid.
Limitations:
Cant schedulea background job
The session should be active until the background job is completed. If the session is closed, then user wont be able to check the output in ALV Grid. User would be able to check the output through spool or SM37
Advantages:
If the spool width is greater than 255 characters, then the entire width could be seen in the output because the output is directed to an ALV Grid and not to spool
Interface of ALV Grid is available instead of ALV List even though its a background job.
Program wont give the TIME OUT error
Steps Required:
1. Once you execute the program, the following screen would be displayed
2. Click Display Job Status to check the Status of the Background Job
3. Click on Display the Job Log to check the Log
4. Click on Display Job Status to check the Job Status
5. Click on DISPLAY SPOOL to check the spool content once the Job Status is changed to COMPLETED. Output is displayed in ALV Grid
Programs:
1. Two different programs needs to be created
ZPROGRAM_ONE: This is the 1st program, where the selection screen and all the data validations would be done. Error handling for invalid data should be done in this program.
Once the data validation is done, this program would call the 2nd program ZPROGEAM_TWO. Build the logic to display ALV Grid in this program. The logic will only display ALV in foreground and it wont be reflected in the spool.
ZPROGRAM_TWO: This program would fetch all the data and do all the processing. If you want the spool output along with ALV Grid output, then build the logic in this program to display ALV Grid.

Can we run alv reports in background
hi all
can we run alv reports in backgroundHi
Yes You can
see this
Many a times there is a requirement to display ALV Grid (not ALV List) in the background Job.

ALV List only 80 Columns when runinning as background job
Hello Guys,
I have a Problem with an ALV List.
We use the FM REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY for a Document Journal.
When I run it in foreground it works fine. But when I view the spool in background the list makes a break at excactly 80 signs, but the line size should be about 120.
In the report the Line-Size is set correctly, even the print parameters seem to be ok. We are running it with X_65_255.
I saw that there are some SAP Notes to this topic, but on our release (SAP_BASIS 700) the notes are already implemented.
Has anyone a solution to this topic?
Thanks and regards

ALV list display in a Background job - Spool output
Hi,
We are currently working on a report scheduled to be run in the background job, and the ALV list is displayed in the spool output.
ALV list in the spool does not look the same as front run job, the column headers are all crowded together, and there is no grid in-between different columns or rows. It's hard to read.
Is there a way to add grid for this kind of output?
Thanks!Hi Deepak:
I expanded your report into two rows display, and the grid in the spool display simply gone!

Page-break in alv background job for alv output variant not coming correctl
Hi,
I have created an ALV grid report. When i run the report in background i get the output with correct page-break on FIELD1. Now when i run the report in background with an "ALV output variant" (its the ALV variant that controls the fields display in the output; this is not the program variant), i do not get the page-break on FIELD1. I have already build the sort criteria and using:
gs_sort-group = '* '. "New-Page
Please let me know what could be reason for not getting the page-break in background when i am using the alv output variant and how do i correct this problem.
Regards,
RakeshHello Everyone,
I have solved the problem. While running the program in background, we get the page-breaks when we use the below part of code in the sort catalogue with the condition that the program variant should not use any ALV layout variant.
gs_sort-group = '* '. "New-Page
If you are using the ALV layout variant in the program variant then we can check the ROWPOS, COLPOS, and NO_OUT for that ALV layout variant and pass them along in the fieldcatalog table. You should be careful with not to pass the layout variant in the DISVARIANT. You can notice that i have cleared it and simply passing the program name into that.
*C-- Process separately for jobs running in Background. Actually
*C-- sortcat-group solves the problem only in Foreground. In background
*C-- when ALV layout variant is not selected then it works otherwise it
*C-- fails. So for background jobs we are reading the fieldcat and then
*C-- passing the same in the display FM.

CLEAR gs_disvariant.
gs_disvariant-report = 'ZGPPMP0001'.
Then pass gt_fieldcat to 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'.
The reason i'm doing it this way is that when we pass the layout variant name, the contents in gt_fieldcat were getting modified.
One more thing i'd like to point out is that that, i tried to delete the fields with no_out = 'x'. Now when i ran the program in background with all the fields in sort catalog (suppose there are 2 fields field1 and field2) also in fieldcatalog it ran fine. In the next run in background i removed one of the fields in sort catalog from the fieldcatalog (delete the fields with no_out = 'x') and i got dump. Basically i had hidden field1 and so the code which was deleting fields with no_out = 'x' deleted this field from gt_fieldcat. So basically we should not delete fields with no_out = 'x'.
I was getting ABAP runtime errors MESSAGE_TYPE_X in the following part of the standard code.
000310 LOOP AT CT_SORT INTO LS_SORT.
000320

000380
000390 LS_SORT-SELTEXT = <LS_FIELDCAT>-SELTEXT.
i have just mentioned this part because when i checked the forum many people were getting such errors "MESSAGE_TYPE_X". This could also be one of the reasons. -
How to display more than 255 chars in background job with ALV Grid ????

I am using ALV grid with OO.
I have used call screen for ALV grid display. I have to display more than 255 characters in width. While running it, I can see the list perfectly.
But in background mode, the list is truncated after 255 chars.
Can anybody help how to send complete list(width more than 255 chars) to spool.
Thanks and Regards,
NehaHi SAP fan,
<b>YES you can run the ALV report in background mode.
To run the report in background do F9 instead of F8, then give immediate and save.
Now goto Sm35 goto job overview and view the job listed
Choose the job and press the spool button. It will show the list created on the next page. When u clcik the list u can see the ALV output.
To see this the job should be in the finished status.
How to define Periodic Jobs
1.Execute transaction SM36
2.Define Job name, Job class, Target server
3.Click on 'START CONDITION' button
4.Click on 'Date/Time' button
5.Enter Scheduled start DATE & TIME. Check mark 'Periodic Job' field. Click on 'Period values' button and select 'Hourly' or 'Dialy' or 'Weekly' or 'Monthly' or Other period and SAVE. Go back to main screen.
6.Click on 'STEPS' button and enter Program name and Variant under box 'ABAP Program'. Click on 'Print Specification' button and enter Printer name under 'Output device' and SAVE
7.Click on SAVE button until you get message on bottom of the screen that describes 'Job XYZ saved with status: Scheduled'.
8.Click on 'Job overview' button or execute SM37 transaction.
9.Select the appropriate 'Job name', 'User name', 'Job Status' & Schedule date under 'Job start condition' and click on 'Execute' button or press F8.
10.You will now see all your scheduled JOBS.
<b>Case: 2</b>
You can Run in Background but make sure it is alv list, not alv Grid FM. if you are uisng alv list not problem , but if you are using alv grid then you can code like this..
if sy-batch = ' '.
call 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'.
else.
call 'REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY'.
endif.
if you are using OO alv then write this code..
CALL METHOD cl_gui_alv_grid=>offline
RECEIVING e_offline = off.
IF off IS INITIAL.
CREATE OBJECT g_custom_container
EXPORTING container_name = g_container.
ENDIF.
<b>Case: 3</b>
if you are using OO ALV.
Just before creating the custom container check for the following condition.
Batch or Web Reporting
IF cl_gui_alv_grid=>offline( ) IS INITIAL.
CREATE OBJECT o_custcontainer
EXPORTING
container_name = lc_custcontrol
EXCEPTIONS
cntl_error = 1
cntl_system_error = 2
create_error = 3
lifetime_error = 4
lifetime_dynpro_dynpro_link = 5
OTHERS = 6
ENDIF.
You can see the output in Spool in transaction SP01.</b>
Good Luck and thanks

Background job to download standard ALV reports
Hi,
Could anyone knows how to download an standard ALV report in a background job?
In a job I made, some ALV reports were precessed and made, and their spools were made,
but not downloaded.
Regerds,
Katsumi Makabehi,
I think you can have a network shared folder on application server.
you said that it is a comma separated file.
1) Using TCODE CG3Z, upload the flat file to application server , remember to copy the path (it contains file path aswellas name).
2) Using DATASET read the filepath along with the name and read each line into workarea and split at ',' into fields.
3) Then append those fields to internal table.
using the FMs job_open, job_submit and job_close you can go for background scheduling.
Please go through the following link for sample code on FTP.

Download ALV result list as excel-file in background job
Dear Experts,
I am looking for a possibily to download the result of an ALV based report as excel-file in a background job. Surely there is a standard function which can be used or at least some hints how to implement this. I searched the forum but couldn't find a thread which was covering this problem exactly.
Thanks in advance
BenjaminDear Mr. Krapf,
it is possible to output an ALV list to an Excel file in the background but there are some limitations.
Please consider the following notes:
#7925 Graphics, Upload, Download do not work in backgrnd
#65050 Data types and file formats in files (DATASET)
#145073 - FAQ Report Writer: Excel download
#569537 - Incorrect data during import into Excel
#590126 Sending CSV documents up to Release 4.6
Please be aware that they are all Basis notes. So for more information you might ask in the Basis SDN Forum.

How to check the ALV output for the background job
Hi Guru,
We are having a cutomized report which will display the result like a ALV report.
We configured it as an background job, after the completion of the background job, it will send the result to the SPOOL, and we can use SP02 to check the output,
But it is not easy for user to directly check the result easily, is there an method we can save it as an spreadsheet and send the output to a specific location or mailbox and then user can check it easily
thanks,In SM37 ,select the Job > Spool > Select Spool No > Display Contents > Here it will show you the Output of the Report. Now select Ctrl +Shift + F12 , it will ask you to save the Spread sheet in specified location.
Best Regards,
Ankur
