Alway have to restart itunes

I have my new Mini set to never sleep; hard drive to never sleep.  Everytime I leave my ATV3 alone for a second when I come back I have to restart iTunes before I can connect to its library.  It's 2012 and this is getting anoying.  What am I doing wrong.  Has to be human error.

My house is wired for ethernet and routed through an Aiport Extreme.

  • Have to restart iTunes EVERY time I want to stream to Apple TV!

I have the 2012 Apple TV and while Netflix, Youtube, etc. normally work well, I have to restart iTunes EVERY time I want to stream to Apple TV! My iMac is always on and the newest version of iTunes is always running. It doesn't seem to matter if the iMac is in sleep mode or not, and I have a very strong wifi signal coming from my Airport Express. Every time - not sometimes - I want to access music, TV shows or movies in iTunes on Apple TV, it says my library is loading, or cannot connect. Every time. What can I do?

WC, When I use the term Home Sharing it is perhaps a little oversimplified, it is quiet impractical and often overkill to continually restate the complete sequence of events that led me to 'a fix', however, I did not suddenly one day find a problem, switch to wi-fi and find all was well. There was significant investigation done on my part to try to find a solution. if by me saying I moved to wifi and it worked, others can move to wifi and have a fix, great. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here, others much cleverer than me are looking at that...
I had a functioning setup over wired until approx 2 months ago with an ATV2 connecting to Imac library, I was at the time occasionally running some software that restarted itunes once finished which may have masked the problem if it was there, unlikely though. I purchased an ATV3 with a new TV, this upon installation required an ios update much the same time as the itunes update.
I noticed the white light on the atv3 flashing when it was asleep, this was not something i had seen on the atv2, Investigation suggested this was normal behaviour, I remain unconvinced of this.
from that point on 'Home Sharing' did not work until a restart of itunes, it would then work all night (6+ hours)
My mac was set to sleep over night, I tried turning that off-no difference, turned ip6 off-no difference, once it hangs other devices on the network are unable to see the itunes lib, iphone, ipad,MBP etc
Once the thing hangs, Netstat shows a massive quantity of open ports 100/150+ to each on/sleeping atv,  a restart of itunes clears this lot. with wired, these connections start to build again, with wireless not so much.
looking back on here shows folks have had this problem in various guises since early 2011, apple by their own admission state the last update 'fixes some issues with Home Sharing', it seems it introduced some for me...
I am quite sure some peoples problems are down to underlying network problems however this is supposed to be 'Home Sharing' it shouldnt need a degree in computer science to configure, it should just work.
I am not about to pull my network apart to troubleshoot any further, between mac & atv's there are 2 x Giga/switches(netgear) and an Airport Extreme(bridged), the atv cable was plugged into the A.Ex no dice and now connects w/less to the same box and works fine...

Are you using the same ID for homesharing on all devices.
By the way shared libraries don't show up under either 'Music' or 'Libraries'.

  • Do you have to restart iTunes everytime you import multiple CD's?

I am looking for a way to "refresh" the source list, at least, the current CD in the drive. When I start iTunes, it can recognize and import a CD, but I eject the CD, and insert a new a new CD, I have to restart iTunes for it to recognize the CD. What's up with that?
    Thanks

Basically all you have to do is drag your iTunes folder to a suitably sized DVD. However have a look at this document "iTunes: Moving your iTunes Music folder" it describes moving your folder to another drive but for "other drive" substitute DVD media and it should do what you want. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748

  • I have to restart iTunes every day to access my home sharing on my Apple tv

I have to restart iTunes every day to access my home sharing on my Apple tv, Apple had me turn off the firewall on my computer that did not help This happens on all my 4 Apple TV's only 2 are wireless but it mainly happens on my wired Apple TV's. the rest of my network works fine

Exact same problem since a long time. Started after an ITune upgrade 6 months ago if I remember correctly.
Im using Home Sharing. I have IPad,IPhone and 2 Apple TV one 2nd (Wifi) and one 3rd gen. Wifi provided by Apple Express. Home sharing work great on all device without interupting playback and/or disconnecting until I leave iTune server hosting Home Sharing idle for something like 2 hours. I have tried many time to access Home Sharing from any of my Apple device before that said 2 hours idle and it connected properly. Like you, it mostly happen overnight while iTune is idle for a long period. When it happen, all devices stop detecting ITune Home Sharing. Remote Apps and/or Music Home Sharing can't connect. Doing of one of the points down below temporarly fix problem on all devise and they connect right away until everything is idle again.
    1) Turning OFF then ON Home sharing temporarely fix the problem (Until next idle).
    2) Closing Itune also temporarely fix the problem.
Since long time (Before this problem started) I have ITune installed in a VMware virtual machine running Windows XP SP3 32bit on top of an VMware ESXi 5.0 host. First I though it was more of my unusual setup causing the problem. I have tried a lot of things. Scratch reinstall, removing firewall, removing all kind of power features on host and OS it self.No anti-virus, no other software installed. Running out of idea. Now glad to see some else have the exact same problem.
Will keep looking and post if I find anything.
What is your setup hosting iTune ? PC, Mac + version ?

  • Why do I have to restart iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again on my ATV2 and ATV3?

Last week I ordered two more Apple TVs 3rd generation.  I have connected them to my network and the ATV2 that I had, seems to be working differently.  I have to restart my iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again.  I go to Apple Support and reference this page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972) and it seems to be the only solution, reset iTunes.
I currently have all apple products from end to end.  This doesn't seem to be working out as seamless as it should.  Any suggestions?

Until Apple gets off their butts to fix this, you can do this.  Create a workflow that 1. Closes iTunes, 2. Pauses 10 seconds, 3. Opens iTunes.  Then Save it as an Application.
    Then...
Create an Apple Script by "recording yourself" launching your new workflow.  Save that Apple Script.
    Finally..
Go into Mail, and create a Rule that when you receive an email with the subject as "Restart iTunes" it will run your Apple Script (wchich launches your workflow app).
Just send yourself an email from you chair!!!  :-)  Please reply if this works for you.  It works GREAT for me on Mountain Lion!
    Enjoy!

  • Always have to restart router and modem.

I don't think this actually is the airport's fault and this only happens at my house, but maybe someone would know.
I have airport extremes in my G5 and ibook, and a linksys broadband modem, and a motorola router. if i restart my computers or the computers go to sleep i always have to unplug the modem and router to reset them; then the internet finally works. The only place i ever have to do this is my house, it always automatically works anywhere else. Anyone know what could be causing this?

when i first turn on the computer, or wake it up from sleeping the airport wireless recognizes my wireless connection but can't connect to the internet. when i unplug the router and modem i unplug it, wait about 10 seconds then plug it back in. after doing this my internet works fine for as long as the computer stays on. if i turn it off, or put it to sleep again, however, then i must unplug the router and modem again. i don't know why unplugging it works, but i was hoping maybe someone knew what i could do to have it just work automatically.

  • I have to restart iTunes for Apple TV to work

When I first go to iTunes, set it to transmit to Apple TV (2nd), the audio is not sent to my receiver until I exit iTunes and restart it.  Then it works.  Also, setting my iPhone to AirPlay/Apple TV doesn't take the first time either.  I have to switch AirPlay to iPhone, then back to Apple TV, and then it works.  Anyone know what's up with all of this?

  • Why my iphone 4 32GB alway have problem with itune? itune always ask me to restore itune and when i restore it appear error (-1).

When i tried many times i success installed and can used with update latest version a few day then my iphone cut off service provider and when i restart it it appear itune plug USB and when i plug to itune on my pc then it asked me to install so i install it but when i am installing nearly full (70% finish) then it alert me with this message "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).

If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup, your iPhone has a problem. Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if available.

  • I always have to restart my internet.

My internet will work fine for a while, sometimes days, but lots of times the internet will just stop working. I can get it working again if I unplug the power to the internet box then plug it back in but it gets annoying. Any Help woul dbe great.
I use an Airport Extreme and Roadrunner cable.

    Hi StuyLax
Unfortunately this appears to be one of life's pains in the broadband butt. It happens to me (and to many of my clients) at random intervals . Sometimes it cures itself and comes back without any intervention, sometimes the router needs a reboot.
The longest mine has been off recenly has been about 20 hours where rebooting had no effect at all. This evening we had a break where a reboot did cure it. There are also times when the AEBS decides to stop - even though it it is still transmitting. A reboot always fixes that.

  • Anyone has a solution for the problem: typing keywords and suddenly it does not work anymore. Mostly I have to restart my iphone 4Gs

Does anyone has a solution for this problem?
Since I updated to iOS 6 sometimes my keywords did not work.
I always have to restart my iPhone to have it work.
It's ridiculous to always restart my phone.
If you also have this problem you can repost + give some tips.
    Thanks and greetings,

    Hi Alo816,
I'm sorry to hear you are having such extensive issues with Messages on your iPhone. If you continue having issues sending or receiving Messages, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
If you continue to have issues with Messages after that troubleshooting, especially if it is still having or crashing, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persist before restoring your data. • Share no longer working without restarting iTunes. Why?

    Hey guys.
Once upon a time, I could open a video in QuickTime, select Share > iTunes and the video would appear in my iTunes library automatically after processing. For the past month or two (perhaps since upgrading to Lion), I've found I have to restart iTunes for it to recognise the new import.
Does anyone else have this problem and/or know if there's a fix?

I just figured it out. My computer is wirelessly connected to my network and when it restarted after the Mavericks update it connected to my guest network. I disabled sharing on my guest network, so that was why....lol I guess I should check the obvious things before I ask a question? I am leaving this up just in case someone else makes the dumb mistake I did.....lol

  • Why do I need to restart iTunes to hear audio on my Bluetooth headphones?

I just bought a pair of Motorola S805 headphones, paired with an IOGear Bluetooth 2.0 dongle. If iTunes is running when I connect my headphones, I cannot get audio to play, no matter what I do in iTunes.
If I shut down iTunes, wait a few seconds, I can hear audio again. This method is not 100%, as I may have to restart iTunes 2 or 3 times to hear audio.
This is obviously just an annoyance, but I think that there should be a setting to allow iTunes to pick up new audio connections. Why do I need to go through this song & dance of restarting iTunes just to get audio working?
I have my S805's paired correctly, and they are set as the Stereo Audio device through the Microsoft Bluetooth devices. Is there any iTunes or Bluetooth settings that I can adjust?

Hi everyone, for the sake of posterity and if anyone encounters this problem, I have found a solution. I added a Motorola D200 bluetooth adaptor and I no longer have the problem. Since the D200 is an audio device it behaves better with iTunes.
I think the original problem stems from the fact that iTunes does not play well with audio devices on the Microsoft Bluetooth stack. I suspect that iTunes does not check for audio device updates of this type.
