Always curier font on HP Laserjet 2550 PCL6

Hi Everybody,
I have a problem with HP LaserJet 2550 PCL6 printers, which are always printing text in Curier, even if my designed document always uses "ARIAL (W1)" font.
The graphic layout (boxes) is correct, but the text is not printed with the proper font.
I'm using the standard "hplj4" presentment target driver, which works with any other HP printer.
I tried a generic PCL6 driver, with no results.
Any ideas?

It sounds like your "presentment target" setup is very similar to ours (a printer as the default and PDF as a secondary). Doing the form on version 5.5 and sending it to version 5.6 should not be affecting the output. At least it doesn't for me with the opposite set up (develop on 5.6 and deploy to 5.5).
If you are referring to the list of fonts that are selected when you click on "Font Setup" within the Presentment Target dialog then that does not necessarily mean they are available on the actual printer you are sending the print to. That list effectively determines what "include" statements are in the .ICS file.
If you are referring to what you can see when actually openning up the properties for an actual Windows printer then I would think that they are available on the printer as long as the proper driver was installed. In this case, do the settings indicate "Don't Substitute"? Actually, it doesn't matter what the settings are within the driver because the print agent doesn't use the Windows driver.
Can you print to that printer using Arial from other software (such as Word)?
FYI - I've had problems that were associated with which fonts I've selected as being available when using "Font Setup". The default list was resulting in a huge MDF file so I decided to trim it down to just the fonts we actually used. I don't remember exactly what happened but that resulted in problems. I started adding fonts back to the list until the problem went away. For some reason I needed to have one of the Wingding type of fonts available even though we did not use it. At one time we were using two different printers and to get correct output I had to specify a particular one as the default even though it wasn't our primary printer.

The driver that you need is provided through Windows Update, and should come natively with Windows 7.

Printing problem with HP Laserjet 2550

I have an HP Laserjet 2550 which is having problems with my Macbook Pro with 10.6.3
Snow Leopard has the drivers for the HP 2550. So when I added the printer it picked up the drivers.
The problem I am having is that it send the job to the printer but the printer does not print it. When I restart the printer on startup it prints the job. I have to do this every time.
Is the problem with the Mac or the printer?

Have you run Software Update to check that you have the latest HP drivers? They have done a couple of revisions since SL was released. Of course, if you are still running 10.6.3 SU will come up with many other updates some of which might be relevant to the problem.
You might also do some maintenance - repair permissions, etc. This could make a difference. There are lots of other steps that might be taken but try these first.

Windows 7: Hp LaserJet 5100 PCL6 slow network printing.

Hello, I'm trying to setup Hp LaserJet 5100 PCL6 that is connected to a WinXP SP2 machine as my Windows 7 x64 default LAN printer. Steps I've done so far:
1. Downloaded HP UNC 5.0.3.
2. Installed it.
3. Tried printing test page, notepad text with no results.
4. In UNC add printer dialog, selected my printer and set test feature to minimal.
5. Tried printing test page. Printer responded and printed an error message, about an unsupported kernel command.
6. Went to Start-devices and printers-add printer, local, LPT_1, Search Driver in Windows Update, Hp LaserJet 5100 PCL6, finish.
7. Accessed "Local Printer" properties, went to Ports selected \\%winxppc%\HP_5000 HP_UNC port.
8. Printed test page, notepad text, AutoCad 2011 Plot. Tested A4 and A3 formats, everything printed fine.
The problem is when trying to print a large file ~25-50 Mbytes it takes from 10 to 20 minutes to print, whereas the same file sent from the other WinXp machine prints much much faster.
So, any possible solutions?

HP Color LaserJet 2550 series

Hi,
I installed the HP Printer Driver Pack available on the Apple site for my HP Color LaserJet 2550 series printer. It works, but there are some odd things here.
First, the driver can't read the printer state. Like how much is left for each colour and things like that. It just says, No information available.
Second, When I print after I already printed something else the printer will be unavailable according to the driver. I need to turn of the printer and back on for it to print again.
Third, When there is an image on one of the pages (LibreOffice) it takes forever for that page to be printed.
Via the App Store I get new versions of the driver pack, so I am up to date.
Also, when I connect this same printer to my Laptop (Linux) everything works. These are HP drivers for Linux. My laptop can read the printer and ink/toner status. I don't have to turn off the printer after each job and images print a lot faster. Ok, real big high ress photos not, but normal images just roll out. Whilst on my Mac it takes minutes.
So in my opinion there is something wrong with the driver. I reinstalled the printer, and due to some other issue I reinstalled OS X but the problem remained.
I hope there is a resolution for this.

I had this issue too with my HP 2550. No more printing after the first printjob possible
I managed to get the printer working as expected by removing the hp_io_enabler kext.
sudo -s
mkdir /Valhalla
mv /System/Library/Extensions/hp_io_printerclassdriver_enabler.kext /Valhalla
exit
Wait for the systemcaches to be rebuilt and reboot. You can see if the caches are being rebuilt by opening the Activity Tool, the process is named kextcache.
You need to have the Valhalla Folder in root of course.

How do I edit the default settings in Acrobat Pro XI to always embed fonts?

Do not use the Std job settings, but use the Press or Print settings. You can also edit the properties of the Job Settings (best done in Distiller) to not exclude any fonts and embed all as subset fonts. Be sure to check the option to continue if embedding is not possible or your creation will fail if you used a font that is not licensed for embedding (Acrobat will only embed fonts that are legally licensed for embedding -- most are, but not all).
If you edit the Std, you will need to save to a new name. You might use MyStd or such. Then go to the Start>Printers and edit the properties of the Adobe PDF printer to make that settings file the default. If you use PDF Maker, you will have to change the PDF Maker preferences also (PDF Maker seems to use the last selection, not the default in the printer). Hopefully that is clear enough.

Your points match mine pretty well,though here are some thoughts:
1. I thought about this theory myself this morning (iTunes possibly causing more issues), but I haven't been able to verify it.
2. When I set up a new user it seemed better for a while, but the issue croppped back up. Yesterday I fully wiped the machine and reinstalled from scratch. I did not reimport my user from TimeMachine, but the problem has come back. My thinking was that I might have some really old software or prefs hanging around causing the issue. No dice.
3. This is my current theory of the issue, so my next step will be to pull the RAM from Crucial and see how the system behves. IF that doesn't eliminate the problem, I'll pull the factory installed RAM and replace it with the 3rd party RAM. The odd thing is how many people seem to have similar issues - I know two personally, and have seen several posts on forums. I think the most common point for this happening was the 10.7.2 update, which would point to software as the culprit.
4. That matches my experience.
My hope is that this will be repaired in the forthcoming 10.7.3 release (current production version is 10.7.2), but otuside of what I noted above, I'm at a loss.

Cups printing font issue. Laserjet P1005 [SOLVED]

since some weeks I've got the Problem, that the fonts are really screwed up when printing in landscape mode, have a look at this:

In this case I printed two pages on one paper. When printing it normal it works fine.
My specs:
printer: HP laserjet p1005
cups up to date
Driver: HP LaserJet P1005 Foomatic/foo2xqx (recommended) (grayscale, 2-sided printing)
does anybody have an idea how to fix it?

My Solution
There is a patch at the end of this post.
My solution for now is to edit /usr/bin/foo2xqx-wrapper.
Change line 1:

because the syntax I know is only for bash.
Find these lines near the bottom of the script:

HP Color LaserJet 2550 - Duplexing Broke

Ok, I have just downloaded the latest drivers from HP, which came out Jan 28 of this year, and downloaded Apple's updated HP LaserJet drivers, yet the drivers don't allow duplexing.
This is becoming infuriating, I am not going back to using a IMB Clone as a Print Server because of the PC side duplexing works. On the Mac side with 10.5.1 installed it doesn't.
I need to know an ETA upon when this will be fixed, I can not afford to not have duplexing for much longer. I hate to say it but unless HP fixes this issue this may be the last time I ever buy an HP printer.

Hi to all , i really need some help with this one , i have a Hp Laserjet 3030 PCL 6 all-in-one printer at work on our network and i'm struggling to get it installed , ive tried looking on the net , ive tried the windows 7 drivers with the update function
basically ive tried everything that i can think of and the thing still doesn't want to install , on my x32 bit machine it works perfectly , windows picked it up and installed it automatically and i can carry on , but for some reason the x64 doesn't want to
do anything , please anyone ho can help with this issue , it will help allot since i have been struggling for 2 weeks now

I had the same problem - THe Hp Laserjet 3030 PCL 6 all-in-one printer is connected to a Windows XP machine and from my Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) workstations I could not print.
By some research and trial and error configurations, I am now able to print from my Windows 7 workstations. You can follow these steps and let me know if it works for you :
Step 1 : Make sure that the printer is shared on the Windows XP workstation and you can see the printer share while browsing your network e.g : \\XPWorkStation\Printer Share
Step 2 : Click Start and go to Device and Printers. Click on Add a printer
Step 3 : Choose add a local printer (Not a network, wireless or bluetooth printer)
Step 4 : On the next screen choose create a new printer port and in the port name type in the path to your printer share e.g : \\XPWorkStation\Printer Share
Step 5 : In the driver list, select HP and your model. In some cases, the Hp Laserjet 3030 PCL 6 does not appear in the list. You will have to click on Windows Update and then you will have an updated list of the printers available. Hp Laserjet 3030 PCL
6 is not available in Windows Update list. I selected Hp Laserjet 3030 PCL 5 and the driver worked fine for me.

Titles always changing font/size/(anything)

When I create a title with the Title tool.. I render and export, then the fonts changes... I have even built a text layer and let it render. It rendered fine.. then I walked away for a few minutes and when I cam back, the font changed and it re-rendered.!!!! Never even closong the project! How on EARTH can I build a project and feel easy that FCPX didn't change the font on me as I work through the job.. SO VERY FRUSTERATING!!!

Thanks for taking the time... but didn´t resolved the problem. I downloaded both installers (drivers and SMU), check in software update and download the update for the HP drivers.... all of that with the plotter connected via USB...

HP Laserjet M401 PCL6

Forsome reason when i print double sided, the sheet of paper gets stuck in the bottom when it tries to feed in again from printing on the other side. THre does not seem to have any levelrs to clear a path in this bottom door at the back of the printer. Any ideas on how I can get the sheet feed to work again

Color LaserJet HP 2550

My system is a MacPro Mid 2010 running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. I am having problems with printing on my hp color laserjet 2550 printer. It is connected via a USB connection on one of the front ports. The issue is that I must power cycle the printer to submit a print job successfully to the printer. Otherwise, I get a message stating "busy waiting for the printer" when submitted the second print job even though the print queue shows the state of the printer to be in a "Printer Ready" state. So, it simply cannot mantain a proper connection with the printer. When the data successfully gets to the printer, it prints as expected.
I am currently using the Apple supplied HP Printer Software Update version 2.11. The installed printer driver is the "HP color LaserJet 2550 series" version 18.4. The problems have persisted no matter how many updates Apple has provided. HP's support basically says that it is supported by Apple and it should work with the drivers that Apple supplies.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've tried many of the suggestions on this forum, but none have worked. I noticed that one person simply bought a new printer.

HP Laserjet 2550L Won't Print In Color

I recently upgraded to Leopard, and now my HP Laserjet 2550L will not print in color. I've tried printing for several different apps, but they always come out in b & w. It does however print in color when printing a test page from the printer itself, so it must be a driver issue.
Currently I'm running with the "HP color Laserjet 2550 series" driver available via PPDPicker. I've also tried several other drivers listed there to see if by chance one of them would work, but to no avail. I downloaded and tried installing HP Laserjet v5.5.2.051 from HP's website, but I can't get it to install. Actually this driver doesn't even show up in PPDPicker, because for some reason it saves as a text file, which seems weird since the dmg file is about 17mb.
Anyway, this has been driving me nuts all night, so if anyone has a solution or suggestion, I'm all ears.

I see you are having a print quality issue, no color on page, with your M251nw Laserjet. You changed the toner cartridges and the printer is still not printing in color. Have you tried taking all the color toner cartridges out of the printer and reseating them to make sure they are secure in their positions?
As well, I would advise taking a look at the document linked below. It will walk you through the process for troubleshooting a print quality issue with this printer.
