Always have to re-enter network key

My wifi on the macbook pro has been great. No issues keeping signal or finding signal. Only issue is when I am at my office and turn on my macbook for the first time I always have to re-enter my password to the network. I have no issue at my home. Always connect automatically to home network. Once password is entered I am good. Any way to set automatic.
Thanks in advance and apoligies if it is a stupid question. First week with a mac coming from pc.

Normally setting your Airport "Join by default" setting to Preferred networks, deleting the configuration, applying the change, and then readding the configuration will normally fix this. You can then revert back to Automatic.
If that don't work you might additionally need to remove the network password from your Keychain before readding the new configuration.

  • Problem with network key

I have a wireless network at home with two PC's and a laptop.  I brought my laptop to a vacation house that had a different linksys router on a secured network.  I entered the code in order to access the network, and got on fine.  When I came home, I discovered that I had lost the network key for my own secured network.  So, I wnet on http://192.168.1.1 and found my passphrase and Keys 1 through 4.  I entered the 10 digit "Key 1" on the laptop, and was able to connect -- until 10 minutes later, the connection failed.  "Repair" won't fix it.  Instead, I have to go back to Network Connections and enter the key in again.  It will then work for 5 to 10 minutes, and then fail again.  This happens repeatedly.  I don't have a connection for more than 5 to 10 minutes before I have to re-enter the key.  This problem is only on my laptop and not the other two PC's on the same network.  Help!

What's the Model Number of the Wireless Router so that I can provide you the required Information.

How do I enter my existing 26 character wep network key on my airport express. I have tried using a preceding $ to no avail

The WEP standard provides support for either:
A 10 hexidecimal digit or 5 ASCII character key for 40-bit WEP,  OR
A 26 hexidecimal digit or 13 ASCII character key for 128-bit WEP
In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AirPort Express will be hashed differently than on a non-Apple client and vice versa.
In addition, the 802.11n AirPorts do NOT support either 40-bit or 128-bit WEP in the "n" Radio Mode. You will have to switch to one of the non-"n" modes to access these wireless security options.
When operating in 802.11n, the only WEP option is the WEP (Transitional Network Security) mode. Note: This mode only supports using 13 ASCII character keys. This would be the reason that you are not able to enter a 26 hexidecimal digit key.

  • We're do I go on my iPad to enter my wireless network key number

We're do I go to enter my wireless net work key ? Number

    Hi Barbaraclark,
If you are seeing Client ID, then it sounds like you are already connected to your Wifi. When you initiallly set it up, it should ask for a Newtork Name and also have a Security option. Under the Security option, you would see:
    WEP
    WPA
    WPA2
    WPA Enterprise
    WPA2 Enterprise
Usually your network key would be a WEP key, but not always - depends on what your provider has.
However, you do not see the page with the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, etc. (with Client ID at the bottom of the list) unless you are already connected.
So, not sure what you are looking to do?

  • Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the internet.  Airplay logo not available on ipad3, iPod touch3g and showing intermittently in iTunes on windows laptop.  Switched ISP a few days ago.  Entered pass key info on all.

I switched ISP a few days ago and had problems with airplay since.  After restarting and reinstalling and updating, re entering pass keys for new wi fi on everything,  Apple TV shows:  Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the Internet.  Ipad3 and iPod touch 3G have no airplay icon or get one briefly then it disappears again.  Same with itunes on windows laptop.
    Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Unable to enter correct network key

Hi - sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere.
I am having difficulty in entering the correct network key on my iMac which I think is due to not being allowed to enter a '£' in the password.
Has anybody ever had this problem before - is there an easy solution?
    Richard

    Hi,
Yes I have tried copying from a text file but it won't let me paste it into the password file (It will if I don't include the '£').
Also interestingly, I tried going through network setting and using the 'assist me' option. Here it lets me use the '£' sign but it still won't connect to the network. I can't connect using my iPhone either using the same password - I can however connect using my work laptop.
Just for information; the pound sign on my keyboard is obtained using 'shift+3'. 'Option + 3' gives a # symbol.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

    Hi
    On my macbook pro
I'm try to set up a new Epson printer SX 445 to my router/network but each time I run the set up wizard it fails to complete saying Security Key/Password Check fail.
*entered security key/password does not match the one set for for router.
I know that the password is correct and have rechecked this by changing it a few times
and I still get the same result.
My network internet service provider is not interested and says to call Epson.
Anybody have any clues how I can resolve this?
    Regards

I personally suggest the new Drobo FS. Since it has an iTunes server built in and you can use any size sata hard drive in it it is better and a NAS that has to use the same size drives.

  • Always Need to Enter Wifi Key

Just got my hands on a iPad 3 64GB.
I have noticed that everytime I try to use my home wifi I have to enter the WEP key. I have tried resetting the network setting but no joy.
Anybody else suffering with the same problem and found how to solve it?

You may have more then one wifi setup on the iPad.
Does your wifi have a name or is it the default name? Of its still the default name, go on the router and rename your home network. Next try to connect to the wifi but delete any other wifi the iPad connects to that is not your home network.
Make sure you have security on your home network if you have a lot of wifi around you. The iPad will connect to any open wifi unless you block them.
The iPad will keep the info for any connection it has connected to already. The issue you describe means you have two wifi that the iPad has already connected too that have the same default name/name (ex. metgear, linksys).
The iPad just sees that a wifi is available (netgear or linksys) and tries to connect. It does not know if it's the one at your house or the one from a relatives house 5 miles away that you just visited.
Changing your home wifi name thru your router is the easiest to do and more secure for you because you will know your on your wifi and not someone else's.

Check the usual suspects, letter O and number zero for example, also letter "ell" and capital i.

  • Why do I have to re-enter my network settings daily?

My network diagnostics remember my name, password, etc., but for some reason it won't connect to the internet the first time I try each day. I have to click on "Network Settings" and manually go through to change all the red dots to green. Like I said, I don't have to update, change, or manually enter anything; just click through the boxes. If it saves all my info, why can't I simply launch Safari from the beginning?

    Hello, try this...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

Both parties must be connected to wifi to use FaceTime (and you must have FaceTime turned on in Settings>Facetime).  If you're phone shows 3G at the top when it's on, you're not connect to wifi; you'll have to solve that problem first.
