Always light never DARK on Laser Printer

Has anyone else noticed printing from a black-only laser printer (IE: HP  LaserJet 1320)
that you always get like a draft darkness to the printout?  Doesn't matter what kind of
printout (text, or image, or combination), it just won't get any darker (not even with
higher or lower settings - or best quality, etc).
I can print with various 1320 printer drivers.. most of them work very well, but
none have solved this issue for me.
Now if I take that same document, and print it on Windows, the entire printout
is much darker and it doesn't seem like draft.
I am using the normal kernel i386, the latest cups, etc.
I do notice that when I 'systemctl start cups.service' that the
"saned.service", and "saned-color.service" start as well.
Could this be the culprit?
Any ideas?

Hi Aidan Black,
     Thanks for your information.
Actually i followed the SAP note 197177 and included the coding like below.
/: DEFINE &XDIM& = 2
/: DEFINE &YDIM& = 3
/: DEFINE &MODHEIGHT& = 3
<FS><32>
/: PRINT-CONTROL SESCP
=  (s1p&XDIM&,&YDIM&,&MODHEIGHT&,0s24850T
=  &lw_percelno&
/: PRINT-CONTROL SBS01
In print preview it is displaying the data like below.
(s1p2,3,3,0s24850T83788900105
But when i am taking print out it is showing only  &lw_percelno&(83788900105) value without 2D barcode. Please let me know is there any corrections in above code and is there printer settings to recognize the print command.

  • My Canon PIXMA MG2120 prints TOO LIGHTLY. How adjust to print DARKER?

My Canon PIXMA MG2120 prints TOO LIGHTLY. How adjust to print DARKER?

    That's not really the answer.
The problem is that  it will print at the correct saturation/quality only when borderless printing is not used. I purchased this item because I wanted to be able to print full color borderless prints on a full 8.5x11 sheet of paper. I don't want to have to buy special glossy photo paper just to print borderless. Is this the truth of the matter? You cannot print borderless prints on plain paper without sacrificing significant quality? Does it always assume when you set it to borderless, whether youre in the standard print menu or the photo print menu, that you're printing a photo and it will then default to printing lightly? This is outrageous. They should say something about this in the manual.

  • Option to adjust printing to light or dark

USB connection. Even with a new cartridge it prints too light in many cases. Printing a text file is okay but for a fairly dark .jpg file or .pdf file it prints much too light. I can not find any adjustment to make the printing darker or lighter. On the machine there is a control for copying to be darker or lighter but the printer properties/driver does not seem to have any control for lighter or darker printing.

And whether that works (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > GPU Settings) depends on your graphic display card (and its driver).

If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    http://www.ifixit.com/
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)

2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • Color Laser Printer for OSX?

Hi! I need some advice on a color laser printer that will work with Tiger and Leopard both and also Windows XP. I'm looking for a high quality 25-35 PP/Min printer. I haven't had any luck finding suitable reviews for anything out there. Does anyone have any real world advice? Thanks, Tom

I have a Hewlett Packard CP2025DN color laserjet printer. It cost about $450 a month or so ago. I've never heard of an HP printer that doesn't work with Windoze anything. I haven't heard of any HP printers that don't work with Tiger or Leopard, either.
It has a built-in duplexer, and handles up to 8.5x14 paper. It is networkable, you can buy an additional wireless box for them. I use my printer connected via USB to a PPC Leopard machine that has printer sharing enabled (I did that because the PPC is always on anyways as a fax server, email server, voicemail server, and file server). The printer is advertised to be about 21 ppm, as I recall. I don't think that the printer is recommended for heavy duty use.
Can't speak to the rate of toner consumption, I'm a pretty light-duty user. I think HP toner cartridges run about $100 each.

  • Choosing color laser printer for proofs

    Hello!
I need to buy a new small color laser printer to print proofs from InDesign. I have had bad experience with HP and Canon printers when transparent areas have been printed. However, Xerox smaller office printers as 6280 with true Adobe Postscript have always printed as expected but a little too dark and too much red in photos. When looking around I can only find Xerox with true Adobe Postscript. My questions are:
    - which of the postscript emulations from other manufacturers do you know works perfectly with InDesign?
    - which small color laser printers can you recommend for proofs?
The smaller the better. Print speed is not especially important as long as print quality from InDesign is good and toner cost isn't too expensive.
    I'm looking forward your recommendations!
    Johan
PS. I use Creative Suite 4 at the moment, not 5.5. DS.

I don't think you're going to find a "small color laser" that really does good proofs, but that's my personal opinion. You should make some sample PDF files and get sample prints from devices you are considering.
I just repalced my Xerox Phaser 790 last week. It was neither small nor very fast. I got samples of my files from a Phaser 7760, which is now in closeout and discounted slightly (but still not cheap) and they looked pretty good, until I looked at the prints from the newer model, the Phaser 7800, that was just introduced. Those prints blew me away, and that's what I bought. This is a tabloid size printer, commercial duty, very fast, and the base model is a little over $5000, so probably not what you had in mind. Toner is not cheap, either.
How often do you need to proof? Commercial printers tend to proof on Epson inkjets (not the cheapies you buy at the office supply, though). The big problem with inkjets, though, is they need to be used all the time to keep the print heads from drying out or clogging, and ink and paper for proofing are more expensive than for lasers.

  • Printing to laser printer looks terrible

Ever since PS CS3 I've noticed that when I print a 300 dpi grayscale image to my laser printer directly from Photoshop, it comes out as if a 72dpi benday screen had been applied. Never happened in earlier versions. I used to get excellent black-and-white print quality through Photoshop, just using the default settings.
I have 300 or 600 dpi grayscale images, usually with a lot of clean black lines. But whether I set to "printer manages colors" or "Photoshop manages colors", and no matter what profile I select, I get the same halftone (awful) result on my HP Deskjet 3330. The printer's settings are fine. If I print the same image from any other application, such as Quark or MS Word, the print quality is fine.
PS has always been a bit confusing to me regarding printing settings. Can someone tell me a way to get my 300-600 dpi images to print properly, without halftones applied?

Of course the first thing I did was check my printer settings. This is what baffles me. I have only one printer setting which I set up as default for all programs, including Photoshop. In CS2 and earlier versions, anything printed from Photoshop came out exactly like prints from any other app: 600dpi fine quality. But now (since CS3) ONLY Photoshop printouts come out in this 72 dpi halftone. Using the same default printer driver settings when printing from Flash, Word, Corel, Quark, IE, Firefox, I get fine quality printouts.
This is why I am asking for advice! Obviously there is a setting within Photoshop that I am doing wrong. Probably something obvious.
Please treat me like I'm stupid. How do you 'check halftone settings in Photoshop'? is that dot gain? I have print settings for 'grey dot gain 20%', which is what I've seen it set at since I started using Photoshop 3.

  • My HP 1005 laser printer cuts both top and bottom lines in half

I have a 2nd hand HP 1005 laser printer and every time that I'm printing a full page it will cut on the first page the bottom paragraph in two and
the other part will appear on the the other page. The page is set on US Letter and sometimes I have to scale to about 90% but the
font will be small. So what can I do to fix this annoying problem?? I have a Canon printer too and it never printed this way even out of

Try downloading the latest HP driver from Apple.   Both the Laserjet P1005 and M1005 are listed on:
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
which suggests if having the latest HP driver, you may fix any issues on Snow Leopard through Mavericks.  Double check HP to find out if there is a more recent driver for your printer as well for Mountain Lion.

No way to do it directly in the report. You need to work with signature image file using any graphic software to increase its contrast. The easiest probably would be to use Paintbrush and change the image to black-and-white, then save back as jpeg file.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2, I cannot print to my Samsung laser printer ML 2525w?  How can I get this set up to print?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on my iMac, I cannot print to my Samsung B&W Laser printer ML 2525W either by USB or wireless.    Any help on how to setup or reconfigure would be apprecaited.
I either print blank pages or prints one time then goes off line, or spits out a bunch of blank paper, etc.  Have gone through all the standard fixes, reboot, reset , reload driver, etc.

From the link to the Thread you provided, I worked through the one message procedures that were listed.
For ease of reference, I have copied them and printed them below.  This was an old thread but the guidance still works with no firmware upgrade required.
I would stress that you MUST delete any and all files relating to USB connection of the printer to the MAC, including all print drivers (from both Apple and Samsung either from CD or web downloads) and all print queues, etc.  I was only able to get the printer to properly hand shake with my Mac by setting it up wirelessly after all old files were deleted with hard power off reboots on both the Mac and Printer.
I hope that someone from Apple will pass this note along to their programing department because there is some type of incompatibility in the new ML OS and the Samsung ML2525w print dirvers used for a cable (USB) type connection.  Apple needs to be talking to Samsung to get the USB issue resolved.  I am going to post this same message on the Samsung site to see if someone from there will contact Apple to work together on a final solution for USB connectivity.
Here is the steps I followed to get my ML2525w to work in the wireless mode.  Again, I cannot stress the need to clean out all the old files (drivers, print queues, etc. - everything) before setting up wirelessly.
As a note, I ran this printer with Lion for almost 2 years and it always worked fine (both wireless and USB).  From other comments on the thread, users were good with this printer using Lep. and Snow Lep also. - - no issues from either a USB connection or wireless until Mountain Lion.
Before the fix, I was experiencing many of the same issues as described on user chat threads, printer going offline after a print job.  1st page sometimes printing but all the rest of the pages were garbage.  No printing at all. Printer just running a bunch of blank pages out. etc.
I run an iMAC 27" desktop with the ML OS upgrade just installed from Lion.
"I've just installed one of these printers for my parents.
First of all, don't waste your time connecting the ML-2525W as a USB printer. The printer will go offline after each print job. It's hopeless, at least (I assume) until Samsung gets around to publicly releasing a firmware update.
Instead, you have to use the ML-2525W as a wireless printer. In that mode, it works fine.
    This is what I did:
    (1) First, if you have already attempted to install the Samsung driver software from the included CD-ROM, uninstall it. Get the uninstaller from the Samsung support site:
    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/ML-2525W
Download the "Printer Driver (ver. 4.0)" ZIP file. It unzips to a folder that contains the uninstaller. Likewise, download the "Smart Panel Driver" ZIP file and uninstall the Smart Panel software.
    (2) Disconnect the USB cable from the printer, if it is connected. Pull the power plug on the printer and power cycle it.
    (3) Restart your Mac.
    (4) Go to the "Printer Driver (ver. 4.0)" folder that you previously unzipped. Inside it is a folder named "WirelessSetting". Open the folder and run the "Wireless Setting.app".
    (5) The application will ask you to connect the USB cable to the printer. Do so, and the Mac should be able to communicate with the printer to perform the wireless setup.
    (6) The application will show you a list of wireless networks. One of them is the wireless interface in the printer (ad-hoc). You can ignore that unless you intend to use the printer without connecting to another wireless network. In my case, I selected the wireless network in my parents' home (infrastructure) and entered the security passphrase. The application then configured the wireless interface in the ML-2525W to connect to the home network.
    (7) The Wireless Setting application will then tell you to disconnect the USB cable.
    (8) After finishing the Wireless Setting application, go to Word, Textedit, Pages, or Safari, and select a file or page to print. In the print dialog window, you should see the ML-2525W as a "Nearby Printer" (i.e. via Bonjour). Select the ML-2525W, and your Mac will automatically connect to Apple's Software Update and download the latest Samsung driver. If for any reason the Software Update download does not succeed, you can manually download and install the Apple driver using the previously published link in this discussion.
    (9) After that, you should be able to print to the ML-2525W whenever you want, without the printer going offline.
    (10) If you have a USB printer queue still in your Print & Fax Preferences (from your previous unsuccessful attempt to connect via USB), you can delete it. You only need to keep the Bonjour queue.
Obviously YMMV, but in my case this procedure got the printer working reliably without the need for a firmware update."

  • Color Laser Printer: CMYK ink percentage

    Hello,
I'm buying a CMYK Color Laser Printer/Copier, and I would like to estimate the cost per print/copy.
The manufacturer of the printer claims that each toner allows the user to print 25,000 sheets in A4 format, at 5% coverage.
Yes, you read it right: 25,000 copies (*)
Is Illustrator able to show me the percentage of each color of a document?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Enrico

Is Illustrator able to show me the percentage of each color of a document?
Pointless exercise.... Any such printer exclusively handles these things via its driver and you realyl have no way of exactly finding out how much toner it applies plus these printers always leave some of that stuff unused in the cartridge. Aside from that, you can simply assume that the actual number of printable sheets will be a lot lower. 5% coverage is really just text, most simple graphic designs are about 30 to 45% coverage. You will definitely not be able to print more than 10000 to 12000 such pages, if you use even more color you may end up around 7000.

  • I'm looking for a color laser printer for my MacPro....what brand do you suggest me?

    Hi.
I'm in difficult to decide what brand of color laser printer to buy.
A few month ago I saw that on the apple store was sell the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525 Color Printer series, but now only multifuction printer are avaiable.
Have uou got experience with some other model?
    Thank's.
    Cristian

I would look at reviews of course. I favor Lexmark but there are others.
    Try these:
    http://printers.toptenreviews.com/laser/
    http://www.pcmag.com/reviews/laser-printers
Ink jets have come a long way, but not a replacement where laser is called for, and cost of ink is just as much as printers. Trouble with multi function is -- not all functions are always that great.
Support. Sometimes only the last  couple model years get supported drivers.
I keep paying less and getting much much better quality printers though and compared to those $10,000 units of old today's printer is cheap, fast and a joy to use.

    Hi -
I can't tell from your post which specific jam you are experiencing.
I found the following on the HP.com support web site at
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01450544&jumpi...
On this page are a lot of possible jam causes and solutions.  This one is a description I think sounds similar to your report.
    Common causes of jams
Cause: When printing on lightweight paper or on jobs with heavy toner coverage, paper is wrapping on the fuser causing Fuser Delay Jam or Fuser Wrap Jam messages.
Solution: Set the LIGHT MEDIA optimize mode on the Print Quality menu to ON .
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
