Always Looking Up Address DNS

I notice that many times in a day when I browse, for example to forecast.weather.gov, the browser is looking it up ... I see the "looking up ..." at the bottom of the browser ...
If I have visited that site many times in a day, why is OS/X looking it up again/
And just what could I change; install; run, that would cache these URL's ?
Thanks

Ummm ... not understanding why caching the DNS Lookup data for a particular site, is related to any site I visit changing Data ... like for example the Weather Service .. their general URL Octet bunch is the same from periodic update to the next periodic weather update.
And it seems that somehwere on this box, I am not setting something correctly .. or .. I need to be running some DNS caching server ... or someting ... becasue I don't think the O/S is supposed to keep asking fir a resolution to forecast dot weather dot gov ... or ... my-mailbox dot that_ISP dot com or some such

    It will take longer to charge the 5G's battery than either the 3G or 4G's battery.

    You should check that the Project settings match the clip settings before editing them to the Timeline.
    Only newly created Projects will change not existing ones by adjusting the Project settings.
    If, for example, you have a Project set to NTSC DV you can only end up in trouble if the clips are PAL 1920 x 1080i.

  • IMac Mail always looking for mail...

    Mail is always looking for new messages - how do I stop it? It is constantly grinding away, trying to find new mail. Force quit stops it, but as soon as I open Mail again, it begins looking for mail to load. New messages come through okay, but it doesn't stop after they are loaded.

    Thanks, but I did that - selected 'Manually', then Force Quit. When I reopened Mail, all was quiet. It wasn't looking for mail. Then I clicked on 'Check for new messages'. It downloaded new messages and kept on spinning, looking for others. It doesn't stop. I don't know why...

  • Edit condition - Ip Address/DNS Name

    Hello!
    Which is the correct way to edit the condition "IP Address/DNS Name" in the policy of access manager?. The IP´s that you write in the textbox have the permission to auntenticate?.
    Thaks.

    User will get portal server access if it has portal desktop service. The only way to enable ip address conditions in Access Manager is using AM Policy Service, i. e. via policy agents.
    If Portal server is installed in the same appserver domain than Access manager you won't be able to install a policy agent, that's a known issue.
    If Portal server is installed in another appserver domain, perhaps you can use a policy agent, however, I'm not completely sure about it because Portal server needs AM SDK installed and Policy Agent also configure some AM clientSDK stuff... probably you will find some compatibility issues regarding such override of libraries.
    Indeed, the Access manager issue that don't permit use a policy agent in the same domain where Am is installed is because some libraries are overriden and classpath loader do nasty things.
    So what I could suggest you is search a bit about compatibilities and if you don't find any issue, you could test.

  • Probl with primary address, DNS, LDAP

    Hi,
    my Mac OS Server runs as a gataway, LDAP Sever, and as a DNS Server. I have some interesting effects.
    1. DNS Configuration in Server Admin some times is visible, some times not. All Changes I make are lost, next Time i see the configuration.
    I think this happends since Upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5.1
    2. The user blabla, also migrated from 10.4 to 10.5.1, runs well, is visible in the List of the Directory Admin, but the Data in the Basic View is not shown. For all other users, every thing is well.
    3. changeip -checkhostname shows me the address of the interface connected to the Internet. My DNS zone is for the other interface. Both interfaces are in different are in different networks. If i change the primary address by changing the service order of the interfaces in the network preferences. changeip -checkhostname says all fine an DNS name is ok, but i am not more connected to the Internet.
    regards
    Volker (from Germany, so sorry for my bad english)

    Just got off the phone with support for this very same problem. DNS Proxy is definitely dying in the TC, looks like a firmware issue to me.
    This is the 3rd TC I'm on. First was a 500GB, had this problem, replaced it under warranty at Apple's direction, replacement did the same, just upgraded this weekend to 1GB, and same issue still. All on 7.3.2 firmware.
    TC 1TB, PPPoE to my ISP, ISP's DNS Servers listed in the PPPoE config in the TC.
    When a host gets DHCP from the TC the only DNS returned is the TC itself, since it proxies the ISP DNS servers.
    Once every day or two, the DNS proxy dies. local network works, and I can add my ISP's DNS addresses in my host config and I have DNS again, but this is definitely something dying in the DNS proxy in the TC.
    Just for kicks trying to switch from my ISP's DNS servers to OpenDNS now since someone said that worked for them, but I am not hopeful... I don't see this as a host DNS issues at all.
    The dead proxy is very clear:
    $ nslookup apple.com. 192.168.1.1 # that's the TC
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
    ** server can't find apple.com: SERVFAIL
    $ nslookup apple.com. 208.67.222.222 # that's OpenDNS
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address: 208.67.222.222#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: apple.com
    Address: 17.149.160.49
    I replaced a linksys router with the TC and am kind of unhappy that a $500 router dies every couple of days. My cheapo Linksys router never needed to be restarted, it only ever got rebooted once every year or so when the house lost power long enough for the UPS to run out of battery.
    Help us out here Apple, I replaced a $50 router with a $500 because I like the flavor of your kool aid, and this thing dies every day or two. Even if you can't fix why the proxy is dying every couple of days, can you please at least update the firmware to maybe restart the proxy if it quits working?

  • Applications Icon in Dock looks like Address Book

    Hi -
    I'm suspicious about why my Applcations icon in the dock doesnt look like the Applications icon in the Finder window. Instead it looks like the Address Book with something hiding behind it. Really!
    Is this correct?
    If not, how do I remedy this?
    Thanks,
    J2
    Message was edited by: Josh2000

    I believe you have the folder set to "Display as Stack". In this display mode the dock icon tries to show you the icon representing the topmost object in the folder, which is usually Address Book in the case of the Applications folder. You can have the dock display the Applications folder as just a folder by clicking and holding the button down on the Applications dock icon (or control clicking on it) and selecting that option in the list of options that appears.

  • How do I get calendar in iOS7 to look up address when entered into location field of appt?

    With Mavericks on iMac, when I start to enter a location into a calendar event, the address gets looked up, completed and a map shows up on the event. The map is there when that event is sync'd with iPhone or iPad running iOS7. But on iPhone or iPad, when I enter an address into a calendar item, no lookup takes place and therefore I don't have a "live" address to click on for directions. Is there some setting in iOS7 that determines whether an address gets looked up in the calendar?

    A quick look at their web site shows I've misinterpreted what you said - Notational Velocity isn't related to iCal. However if you are still having a problem with that the makers would be the people to ask.
    I'm not sure why you can't get iCal files to work if they are in the correct place. In 10.6.8 the Calendar folder includes a folder for each calendar, and these contain the .ics files which represent the actual events. I don't know whether 10.8 has altered the format as I don't use it.
    You originally said ' I found the old calendar data in Users/my name/Library/Calendars, and copied it over into the Library file on my new machine.' - did you copy the entire Calendars folder intact?

  • Two domains + two servers + one static IP address = DNS confusion

    I'll try to keep this simple:
    I have two domains, two mac mini SL servers, one airport extreme, and multiple static IPs, but only one of them pointing to the router. I've configured DNS successfully for the primary domain (example1.com) and thought that I had set up a second primary zone for the second domain (example2.com) but all external requests point to example1.com.
    So the two setups i've tried are:
    Reverse zone
    1.0.10.in-addr.arpa.
    - 10.0.1.200 - example1.com
    - 10.0.1.201 - example2.com
    Primary zone
    example1.com
    - example1.com - 10.0.1.200
    - example2.com - 10.0.1.201
    OR
    Primary zone 1
    example1.com
    - example1.com - 10.0.1.200
    Primary zone 2
    example2.com
    - example2.com - 10.0.1.201
    Does anyone know of a good tutorial for hosting multiple servers in an internal network, pointing to one name server internally? I've looked everywhere and cannot make sense of the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    After sleeping on it, I came up with a much easier solution that works better for what I'd planned in the first place. I hung a spare router off my gateway and set up a completely different network for the second server and everything is great now. I knew there was a reason I'd signed up for five IPs...
    In any event, I don't think I would've been able to accomplish what I was trying to do while using the Airport Extreme as my firewall. I wanted to have separate static IPs for each of the boxes and obviously I couldn't do that with the airport, although it took a while for me to recognize that.
    thanks for the suggestion, though. I think I'm going to use that for some subdomains.

  • Search should look at address book notes & application data

    Search is basically useless to me, I used to have the ability to categorize my address book, or at the very least make a note in a contact that was searchable. (For example, "work" in the note section of a contact would result in search results of just the contacts with this note, go figure!) I also have lots of stuff in alternate notes programs that is not searchable. Not much of a reach to make data entered into an "i-device" searchable, I think a few software engineers should be able to tackle this insurmountable problem! I paid $500 for a device that has fewer options than my Palm Pilot did 8 years ago!(and in regards to searches, is absolutely inferior)Sounds like the only way to get apple to address an issue is to make lots of noise in this support forum. Sorry to waste anyone's time.

    I just had this same problem. I use multiple mac computers that I sync manually because of a previous idisk issue. I noticed as I updated my cloud, the search function in address book quit working properly on each computer.
    So created a new group list and I attempted to copy "All Contacts" into that group. It would not copy all my contacts into that group in one paste function. So I took all the the first 25 names and copied them. That worked. Then I moved to the next 26-50 names and so on. I noticed when I got to the fourth group of copying contacts that it did not paste and froze the application.
    I quit address book, reopened it. All the contacts before the the fourth group were in the file. The search function worked on those names. I then went card by card and found one that had a "string" of data listed where an email address should I have been. So I deleted the corrupt card and now my address book search is working again.
    Here is the short solve. Look for a corrupt card in your address book. I found the corrupt card by trying to copy it over to a new address group. The card that was corrupt just happened to be one that I had updated in the last week or so...
    Hope this helps.

  • Ping blocks when looking up reverse dns PTR/RR

    Hi!
    If someone could shed some light on this behaviour, it would really make my day!
    When using ping -s to ping an ip address that doesn't have a PTR RR, ping will timeout until dns timeout.
    This would be fine, except that when the replys do show, it's response times are off the roof:
    PING 80.79.163.74: 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 80.79.163.74: icmp_seq=0. time=5.65 ms

    64 bytes from 80.79.163.74: icmp_seq=2. time=1.37e+05 ms

    64 bytes from 80.79.163.74: icmp_seq=140. time=5.92 ms
    however, snooping while ping is busy with dns shows that packages do get transmitted and recieved, ping without -s works fine, ping -sn also works fine.
    I can reproduce this on 8,9 and 10 of solaris, so I assume this is expected behaviour, although I cannot find any information about this issue, do you know more?

    added ping example.

    Try to debug this:
    nslookup -debug hostname
    user@server# nslookup -debug aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa vld-dc-1
    Server: domain-controller-1
    Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx#yy
    QUESTIONS:
    aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa.in-addr.arpa, type = PTR, class = IN
    ANSWERS:
    AUTHORITY RECORDS:
    -> aaa.aaa.aaa.in-addr.arpa
    origin = domain-controller-1
    mail addr = admin.ru
    serial = 26
    refresh = 900
    retry = 600
    expire = 86400
    minimum = 900
    ADDITIONAL RECORDS:
    ** server can't find aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa. in-addr.arpa: NXDOMAIN
    The solutions:
    1) add correct dns records to resolve host names
    2) add IP in /etc/hosts

    Any thoughts how to associate an address with nodename??
    Thanks in advance!

    No. I ended up installing on my IBM laptop instead. Sorry. However, I did get some tips from the Lego team that might help you. I'll cut and paste them here.
    first one:
    [Try loging onto http://www.openal.org/downloads.html I think you will find the drivers there. Once you update the drivers your game should work fine.
    If you run into any problems with the downloadable version of LEGO Digital Designer , you can use the Help tool by clicking on What's this and selecting the item on the screen that you want help with. You can also look at the user manual or visit www.lego.com/ldd for more information. Live support is not available for the download versions.]
    next one:
    The From the Vaults CD-ROM works best when used with the very latest version of Apple QuickTime Player. As of this writing, the latest version is QuickTime Player 7. If you don't have the latest version of QuickTime player, the software -- for both Windows and Macintosh computers -- can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website at this web address:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

  • DSL Down - Looks Like a DNS Issue

    Hi Everyone,
    My DSL service has been down for 36 hours now and while Verizon is looking into the issue, I'd like to see if this community has any ideas as to what's going on.  Here's the story:
    My Internet access went down at midnight two nights ago.  I have two computers and both lost their connection, so I'm confident that it's not an issue with either computer.  I have an Actiontec modem/wireless router from Verizon.  I have rebooted the modem, which usually resolves any issues, but in this case it didn't help.  When I do an ipconfig, the DNS Suffix shows as domain_not_set.invalid, which I don't believe I've ever seen before.  I'm unable to ping any sites and nslookup reports DNS failures.
    Verizon is sending me a new modem, but I tried using my old Westell modem from Verizon and I'm seeing the exact same issues, so I'm thinking it's not a modem issue.
    Verizon has tested my line multiple times and says everything seems fine.  The issue has now been escalated to their central office to see if there is an issue there.
    Since Verizon hasn't been all that helpful to date, I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and can point me in the right direction.  If the central office doesn't see an issue, the next step is for a tech to come for a visit.
    Thanks in advance.
    Edit: I should also mention that while on the phone with Verizon I reset the modem, so it's back to the factory defaults.

    Oh yes, it has nothing to do with you or me or any computer, I myself am experiencing the second outage in less than a week.  Mine has been down AGAIN since sometime last night.  I was told when I called on Monday that nearly everyone in my area code had no service, that was an equipment problem.  I finally got a call on Tuesday, an automated message, saying that is had been resolved, and so it had.  For less than 2 days.  Now it's out again and I see nothing at all about it here on this website.  I have waited all day to use my husband's wireless card so I could catch on my stuff and also come here to see if there were some answers, but of course there are none.  Big surprise.  To say that I am unhappy is the understatement of the month.  This is unacceptable service and it is especially galling that nothing that I have seen is giving customers explanations for this latest outage.  I would like to see someone from Verizon explain what is going on here in my part of Southern California about why we keep losing our DSL service.

    Hello community,
    I have a little problem. We are using UCS 2.2(3d) and 32 B200 M3. Now I want to use KVM direct access.
    For all 32 Blade Server, we have created DNS entries for their CIMC IP addresses.
    example: ESXserver1.rc (servername + ".rc") <-- --> 192.168.0.1 (CIMC IP address)
    If I enter the CIMC IP address in browser, KVM direct access works fine.
    If I enter the DNS name in Browser, KVM direct access page loads, I log in and get the following error message:
    GetKVMLaunchUrl: Invalid or zero CIMC IP Address passed
    Can someone help me? Do I have to configure something?

  • Wifi always looking

    My iMac is connected to my wireless but the icon at top always shows - 'Wifi - looking for networks' with the spinner going.  Why?.

    This is normal. Your device is NOT constantly looking but only looks again when you click the airport icon. You may want to change networks or you may have come into the range of a new network that was not previously in the list, you see.
    As another ingenious person put it: Think of the light which only comes on when the refrigertor door is opened.
