Always Preparing

I have had problems with my Time Capsule causing kernel panics. I think those issues are fixed, but my time capsule does not seem to back up well. It is currently spinning the "barber pole" saying it is preparing to back up. I also have seen errors that says there is a problem mounting the drive. What gives? I do not see the drive under disk utilities so I can't repair.

A kernel panic is similar to a "blue screen of death" on a PC. I would get a message that was from the computer and not the operating system that said to restart the computer.

  • Always 'Preparing for Backup' message

My Time Capsule was working fine till yesterday. But from today, I see it is always 'Preparing for Backup' for quite a long time.
I normally switch on the Time Capsule once a week and back up, which would take about 8 hr and then switch it off.
But today I see the icon revolving always 'Preparing for Back up' but the actual back up never starts.
Is there a way to trouble shoot this problem?

    Yes Sir, OneOrangeTree
    Thank you for your interest.
When I switch on the TC during the weekends (week days it is switched off) it takes 2 or even 4 hr under 'Preparing for Back up' and then finally it does back up fine. So this is okay now.
My new observation is that when i switch off and switch on, then next back up is indicating as 10 GB and it takes a whole night for back up. Even when I don't load any data into the computer, except safari browsing, it always indicates 10 GB to back up. I wonder if this is a known problem. If so I hope it will be taken care in the next 10.5.5?
    Thanks once again.

  • Iphone 5S IOS8 - quality of  audio when taking video?

The biggest disappointment with the 5S was the TERRIBLY distorted audio when taking videos of live music or loud events.  The 4S didn't feature the front mic and therefor sound was passing by perpendicular to the mic and it would not be as "hot" of a signal.
I have not one but two external mice I use when I plan*** on taking video but living in a city with tons of music I am not always prepared with an external mic.  Taking video with IOS7 with the 5S is useless if the audio source is above 85db or so.
Can anyone who has upgraded IOS on the 5S confirm that they have corrected the software for the mic sensitivity for a 5S?  My buddy has the 6 and his live videos of music do NOT distort.
    Thanks!

    Hello AudioArchist,
Does the issue of recording videos still not get any sounds? If so, take a look at the article below to troubleshoot the issue further. Now it may be hard to give the exact reason why that happened, but the article should assist with getting it fixed.
If your voice is too faint or sounds unclear using iPhone, or iPod touch

I am trying to install SCOM 2012 R2 reporting services on SCOM Management Server. SCOM Management Server also has a SQL Server 2012 SP1 (11.0.3000.0) SSRS and Database services installed. But SCOM reporting installation fails in between with below errors

    Hi There,
Also the Account name and password have to be entered below for mappings:
Data Warehouse Action Account - is for the Data writer account.
Data Warehouse Report Deployment Account - is for the Data reader account
The one which is blacked out in the screenshot will be the main SCOM Action account.
So re enter the passwords carefully and accordingly and check and let me know.

Plant 1000 is excisable unit and Plant 2000 is non excisable unit (Agriculture product). In Plant 2000, whatever we paid tax to vendor, we are adding the taxes to inventory, because there is no utilization.
Now my requirement is we want to transfer Assets Plant 1000 to 2000 Plant.
What is Process we should follow?
One of friend was saying simply change Plant in the Asset Master. I donu2019t think itu2019s not good solution. If we change like this again we have face legal problems. Because we taking plant trail balance. There should be some accounting entries to transfer asset one plant to another.
Someone was saying use STO process. For STO process we need Material. But we have not created asset as a material.
Please tell me what is process Plant to Plant Asset Transfer.
And what is Excise part in this process.
    Thanks & Regards
    Teja

    Hi Giris
Balance Sheet is always prepared at Company Level or at Business Area Level. We never prepare Balance sheet at plant level.
Secondly if you want to have plant wise balance sheet then you need to create plant wise business areas.Means non of plant should be equal to No of Business Areas.
To answer your question in that case when you will transfer the asset then
Asset A/c at (Receiving BA ) ........Dr
Asset A/c at (Sending BA ) ..........Cr
Then when you will do business area clearing the other leg that is Co responding Entry of Dr or Cr will be automatically posted and it will make your Balance sheet tallied at Business Area level.
    The Entry Will be
Inter BA Clearing A/C (Sending BA ).....Dr
Inter BA Clearing A/C (Receiving BA )....Cr
    Hope this had clarified you.

  • InDesign generated 'Press Ready' PDF files

I have always prepared images (300dpi resize & CMYK conversion) in Photoshop and imported them into Indesign.  Is this even necessary now? Does a 'Press Ready' PDF generated from InDesign do all of this? I understand that if an image is low res to start with then it's never going to be good - but if the image is high res (say 5000px x 3500px) and imported into a 5cm x 10cm image box - and only displaying at say 7% size will the PDF export have a 300dpi file at 1:1 final print size. I'd actually like to keep all images in RGB for all purpose use and avoid doubling up on disc space.

Whatever you say 300dpi is an industry standard resolution for platemaking
The problems with getting caught up with 300ppi as a magic number can go both ways.
This image which is a combination of line art and color would benefit from more than 300ppi (if you care about the 6pt. captions and fine keyline):
This image has no details or high contrast edges that would need 300ppi to resolve:
300 is a useful catchall but doesn't guarantee anything.

  • Upgrading a DC in place from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2

This is not a question but more of an information post. I've found lots of posts regarding the upgrade of a DC and most say that you should do a clean install and migrate services and then decommission the old server. But I was more interested in an in-place
upgrade of a DC. I only found one post on here that said it was possible, so I gave it a try and it worked perfectly.
Here's what I've got and what I did:
Server 2008 R2 Std (Virtual Server using VMWare)
AD, DHCP, DNS, Certificate Services, Office KMS Host
I did the whole adprep /forestprep /domainprep routine and then installed Server 2012 R2. I selected the upgrade option and then sat back and watched the process. It took about 30 minutes to complete. Once it had installed, I logged in and the only issue
I noticed was that one service hadn't started, and this was just due to the OS waiting to be activated. Once I had done that there were no more errors/issues.
For the Office KMS server I then had to install the new version of KMS host as this has changed for 2012, and this is quite a simple task too. The only issue I have is waiting for the minimum of 5 PC's to activate...

Yes. That is of course a different situation. however, I would still not do it for acouple of reasons, which may or may not apply to you.
I work in a controlled environment (regulatory requirements) and for any change we need QA approval. Allowed downtime is very low. preparing a new DC and then swapping it out means far less downtime and much easier to manage from a QA perspective. Especially
since you can do a lot of acceptance testing up front.
Upgrades always carry the risk of certain things being reset, or changed unknowningly. Scratch installs are always the same. The possibility that after the QA release something may not work as expected can create a huge problem for me. We always prepare
and test installation procedures up front.
That's why we always try to follow best practices and procedures that allow as much pre-configuration as possible, and which allows us to fall back to existing configuration. Timeslots for downtime come around only once per year. And if it causes more than
a couple of hours downtime, only once every couple of years. the amount of sitewide effort involved and the financial risks are massive.
Basically it all boils down to this: is it a problem for you if somethign unexpected happens, do you have the possibility (time) to do much troubleshooting or the time needed to restore backups, and how acceptable is the risk of not being able to finalize
    the proposed changes.
When there are millions of $$ on the line and a schedule slip could cost further hundreds of thousands of dollars ... , and aborting the site upgrade would be a huge failure for the site ... you want stability, predictability, and as few changes
as possible where you don't know the success in advance.

  • Windows XP non networked laptop

I would allow it. make sure that you get all the service patches youi can for it and get it as up to date as possible. I would also install a different browser just in case it has to hit the internet for something in the future. XP only goes to IE8 and most websites no longer support that version any more.
I have an old windows 2000 machine that is similar to you, I have disabled the network adapter just to make sure it can't get out onto my network and when it does need internet and network active for remote management by the vendor, I switch it back on for them and disable it again straight away when they have finished.
Whilst they say it will never be networked always prepare for the change that it will need 3rd party support some stage in the future.

We've got some old science software here, that only runs on Windows XP (so I've been told a lot of times).
Of course I naturally say we don't want to make a Windows XP machine up anymore, because of security risks and it's just old now. The science department comes back with it'll be a non networked, non internet enabled device, just for this ancient and old quiz system.
Do I stick to my principles and avoid it like the plague, or do I let them use it? They also want to use this software on 5 year old 1st gen netbooks that also need replacing, but that's a separate issue.... What do people think?

  • Final Cut Express 4.0 Run under 10.4.10

In our school we have Mac and PC together.
    We got Final Cut Studio.
I have Final Cut Express 4.0 and want to install it on
    the mac.
The problem is it won't install because it requires 10.4.10 the installer says.
Is their any way around it to install. We have Tiger but no the latest version.
We can't update since the Tech guy is a paid in the you know what.
    What can I do ?

Whoa, hold on just a minute.
    FCE 4.0 requires 10.4.10 and QuickTime 7.2.
You should upgrade OSX first, then QT if necessary.
Upgrading to 10.4.10 is not that big a deal, but it should NOT be done via Software Update (aka "click on the Apple logo in the Menu bar ..." ).
Always prepare for an OSX upgrade by:
1 - backup all your data folders/files that are on your system (internal) HD
2 - repair permissions on your system HD (Disk Utility > Repair Permissions)
3 - download the appropriate OSX Combo updater, NOT the Incremental updater (which is what you get via Software Update). To do this you have to go to the Apple downloads website and find the 10.4.10 combo updater --> Apple > Downloads > All Downloads > Apple > Mac OSX Updates > 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC or Intel, depending on what flavor Mac you have)
4 - make sure NO applications are running, then run the OSX Combo Updater
5 - if necessary, also update QuickTime AFTER updating OSX
    6 - THEN install FCE 4.0

  • What is the best books for MCSA 2012

pleas can you advice me what are the best books and materials for pass MCSA 2012?
    thank you.

    Hi, HFAA.
I understand you want to earn the MCSA title for something with a version number of
    2012.
There are six (6) different MCSA certification titles currently available. Two of them are version 2012, which are Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012. Here is the web page that describes all six (6) MCSA titles:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-certification.aspx
I am going to assume that you are interested in the most popular MCSA 2012 title:
    MCSA: Windows Server 2012.
The MCSA: Windows Server 2012 description web page is located here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-windows-server-certification.aspx
    Exams
You need to pass three (3) required exams to earn this title. If you click each of the links below, you will find the exams' descriptions with a
Skills measured section describing what is on each exam. As well, you will see a Preparation options section full of study resources for each exam.
70-410 Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012
    70-411 Administering Windows Server 2012
70-412 Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 Services
    Preparation Materials
Unfortunately, Microsoft has recently updated the content for these three (3) exams for
Windows Server 2012 R2. These new exams will officially be released on January 28th, 2014 (nine (9) days away). Because of that, all of the previously released study materials (books, exams, etc.) for 70-410, 70-411, and 70-412
will only be partially helpful in getting you ready for the exams.
However, Microsoft Press and O'Reilly Media are currently updating their books to include the new
R2 content and will be releasing them in February, March, and April of this year. The previous releases of their books seem to get the best reviews on Amazon for helping students prepare. Here are the books, with links on Amazon and
O'Reilly. As time goes by, books from other publishers will also be released.
    Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%22Windows%20server%202012%20r2%22%20exam
    O'Reilly Media:
    http://search.oreilly.com/?q=%22Server+2012+R2%22+exam&x=9&y=15
By the way, I tend to believe the O'Reilly's release dates are more accurate since they are the folks who are actually releasing the books!
WARNING: As of today (01/19/2014), I don't believe any of the three legitimate Practice Test Providers (Transcender, SelfTest, and MeasureUp) have updated their practice exams for Windows Server 2012 R2 - yet. If I am wrong, I hope someone
    will correct me.
Focus all your studies on Windows Server 2012 R2 and should be ready to take on an exam. Always prepare for one exam at a time and then take it.
Also, make sure you take advantage of Microsoft's free Second Shot voucher program, which allows you to retake an exam for free in case you fail it the first time. This program will retire in May.

    Good luck!

  • Security and Control - Creation of ORG Roles

    Hi
I have created an organization role against one functional role by adding the objects containing org elements only which are falling in that functional role. Now as per the rule it should a user will have one functional role attached and one respective org role which will have local value of org elements and accordingly there will be so many instances of org role. Viz. if there are 100 plants and 50 company codes, then there will be 100 org role for plants and 50 org roles for company codes. so by this practice we are reducing the number of instance roles ( which in tradition method would have been 100*50 = 5000 and in this case it will be 100 + 50 = 150)
This concept works fine if we have only one org element falling in one object (e.g F_BKPF_BUK, has only plant as the org element), but my question is how can I handle the sceneriao in which there are more than one org element falling in the object ?? e.g. authorization object J_1IA_POSO contains org elements company code and plant ( which comes from transaction code J1I0).
Your early responce is highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards
    Shailendra

    Dear Gaurish
your demand is quite standard. There is only a "but": nearly 60% of the properties are "global" ones and not "local" ones. That means e.g. "density" data should be valid "global". But e.g. in the context of GHS, OEL etc. local data is required. The access concept is therefore not always prepared on level of VAT/property; e.g. a french guy need to maintain the OEL; the same for the german guy; but there is only one VAT. So the differentiation is done in most cases on usage level. But you need to differentiate the maintenance in CG02/CG02BD from the topic of generation and releasing SDS. Here as well access concepts are used.
Any access conept is very "company" specific. Just check the available objects which are used to "control"/"Set up" access rights. E.g.:
SAP EHS user list and Authorizations | SCN
E.g. consolut - Complete Authorization Object Documentation From /AAA up to E
    might helps as well.
On top: Access cocnept depends on release you are using. Higher releases does have more authorization objects as in the past. So access concept is not only company specific but release specific as well.
Topic of access concept is discussed "rarely" here.
    Authorization object C_SHES_TVH
authorisation object for property tree in CG02
    Specification type authorizations
    IHS safety measures authorization object
    EHS
May be check "Best practise" approach; which is discussed very often here to get idea about access concept.
    C.B.
    PS: may be check:
consolut - C_SHES_TVH - EHS: Specification Value Assgmt with Reference to a Spec.
Authorization check with usage profile in user parameter
Define Authorizations - Product Safety - SAP Library
(sorry describes only old releases but good starting point)

  • Stock Determination Group

    Hi Gurus,
What is importance of having Stock Determination Group in MRP 2 view?
If I define this and maintain for my raw and semi-finished material. These material are spilit valuated.
When I do backflushing, MFBF system will pick stocks based on rule maintained in stock determination for eg- pick first stock from Local, then go for imported.
But when I do the reversal, system doesnot use the same stock determination rule. I have give the input of material stock, where it is be put. Is it correct? Any inputs.
    Pl clarify my doubt.
    Srini

    Hi Srini N,
Stock determination enables you to implement various strategies to withdraw material for goods issues and stock transfers. You configure these strategies in Customizing. Then the system determines how and when the material should be withdrawn, and from which storage locations and stocks.
Based on the stock determination strategy you predefine, the system makes decisions on material withdrawal depending on the material, plant, and the business process.
If the stock determination procedure did not remove materials from the stock you requested, you can only cancel this posting via a reverse posting in the application you are using.
You should always prepare each strategy thoroughly and configure and test the application components extensively before you start using them.
Hope it is clear to you.

  • Resolution (ppi) of artwork for iPad

So far I've always prepared my artwork for iPad at 72 ppi.
    But on Wikipedia I read:
    iPad mini Original 1024×768px
    163 ppi
    iPad Original, 2
    1024×768px
    132 ppi
    iPad 3rd Gen, 4th Gen
    2048×1536px
    264 ppi
Does this imply I need to set ppi in Photoshop to 163ppi for iPad mini? And 264ppi for iPad 3/4?
And do I set ppi for iPad mini to 163ppi?

It's simply a hardware specification, typically provided by the display manufacturer so that the OEM's marketing wonks have something to impress the press with.

  • Mac turns off when i'm turning it on....

Hi, I installed leopard about nine months ago on my powermac. The last three months it's been very slow (cd draw can take 15 mins to open, six hours to verify disk etc) and time machine back up always prepares but never actually backs up. Then occasionally everything worked normally until I tried something ambitious like opening two applications at once. I was advised to archive and reinstall Leopard. My mac icon was covered by a yellow exclamation mark and I was told everything would be erased so did I want to cancel and restart. I clicked yes. Now, when turning it on I get as far as the grey screen and the spinner before it just switches off.
I have tried turning it on while pressing the c key and then trying to repair disk permissions. I just get a big red error word.
I don't know what to do now. Any ideas?
    many thanks,
    Stephen.

    Hi
Thanks for that. A couple of things: In the installer log it says 213 mb of physical memory is "trapped". That doesn't sound healthy(?). I try to run "repair disk" from the software install disk but it's greyed out so obviously no good.
Verifying the disk gets the message "Invalid Key Length. Volume Check failed. Error: Filesystemverify or repair failed."
Also if I go to "Startup Disk" the two options it gives me are the installation disk or Network start up. Alternatively if I quit the installer disk I get the above two start up options + the operating system on my mac.
As said earlier "archive and install" is not an option that works on the disk.
    Thanks,
    Stephen.

  • Update 10.5.5 successfully installed

My first post here. I have a Macbook - my first Mac OS product and bought in 2008 - and my system has been what was originally installed at the time of buying - 10.5 I think. I have avoided installing updates since whenever i used to visit this forum, i used to find major complaints about the system going wholly down or lesser but serious other complaints.
When 10.5.5 was announced, i visited this forum again and saw similar complaints. However, I took the risk and downloaded the whole package - the standalone package of 600mb odd. I installed it and the whole process absolutely smoothly. It took a maximum period of 10 minutes including the restart (excluding the download time of course). Not a single error message. No delays whatsoever in installation (i read some people having to wait at least 5 minutes or even endlessly).
The reason i am writing this is that normally i, and i am sure many others, visit here when they have problems and not many write when they do not. So many like may remain hesitant in installing the update.
Maybe my system is quite simple in the sense that i have not installed many additional software/hardward and have not made many system tweaks.
Hope this feedback is useful. I have visited this forum for resolving many of my doubts or problems and have found past threads quite useful.
And No, I am not writing this for Apple company in any way.
    Cheers and thanks!

    jmthakur,
99% of problems with updates are caused by disk errors that occur during or prior to the update. In only a rare cases does an update actually "break" some functionality, and in these cases, Apple is normally very quick to come out with an additional fix. There are some few other circumstances where an update "breaks" compatibility with third-party hardware or firmware, but these too are rare, and to be expected in any multi-manufacturer environment. Typically, these problems can be and are fixed by a firmware update for the affected third-party product.
Because the great majority of problems are disk error-related, indicating some weakness in a given installation's file system (or "disk directory"), we see a definite pattern to the complaints on these boards. As a "reference release" (10.4, 10.5, etc.) matures, and progressive updates to that release are introduced, more and more people complain of problems. This is because they have gone for longer and longer periods of time since the last format (erasure) of their hard drive, and their file system becomes more and more susceptible to disk errors.
Disk errors are a fact of life, and will always be to some extent. Advances in a given file system structure may bring improvements, but those advancements are few and far between. "Journaling" is one such advancement, and it brought with it a large improvement in this regard, but it still doesn't prevent all file system problems, especially as they relate to upgrading and updating.
This is one of the great advantages that Mac users have over users of other OSes, namely that Apple has a firm handle on the hardware for which it develops OS X, and that it can closely and accurately target that hardware in all of its upgrades and updates. Due to this, it can reasonably be stated that almost all problems attributed to a given update actually have nothing at all to do with the update, and everything to do with the installation or file system on which the update is being run. Also, that any update that performs flawlessly for one user can be expected to perform flawlessly for all.
I always update as soon after the release of an update as is practical for me, and I have never had a problem. Then again, I also always make a final backup prior to running that update, in case I happen to be one of the unlucky few that encounter a disk error. Perhaps more pertinent, I see to it that I do not go for extended periods of time without formatting and reinstalling. Typically, I do this when I upgrade from one reference release to the next (10.4 to 10.5, for example), but I am always prepared to do it any time I begin to see any problems in my own installation. I never do.
Thank you for your positive feedback regarding your update experience. I am sure that it will benefit someone, at some time.
    Scott
