Always promted for password when using mac mail

why am I always ask for my password? How can i stop this?

Check the box that says save to key chain in the password prompt window.
If you have done this and it doesn't save it, then it may be that you have a saved password that is incorrect and Mail is using it.
If this is the case, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. Find any passwords that look related to Mail and delete them.
Next time you use the app. you will be asked to enter the password, do so, carefully, and then check the save to keycahin box.

  • Hi I can't update my apps when I try to update it asks for password when used it goes back to update. I think I'm not alone and have tried changing date switching off signing out and in and rebooting. Is there a solution or do I need to take it in?

I can't update my apps each time it asks for password when entered it goes straight back to update. I don't think I am alone in this. I have tried changing the date, rebooting, switching off and on signing out and nothing works. Does anyone know of a solution or will I have to take it to an apple shop. My misses has no trouble with her updates, they are both on iOS 6. Hope someone can help.

Tried that just said cant connect to iTunes Store which was different.

  • After update to 10.9 Why does mail always ask for password when opening

I have updated my iMac to 10.9 and now every time I open Mail, I have to type in my password. Does anyone know why or how to fix?

In the iCloud pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked Mail and check it again.

  • Air port always asks for password when a network is selected from the list

If I have my wirless router on before my mac, when i switch on my mac it connects fine, using the password I previously told it to remember. However if my mac is on first, then the router when I select the router in the wirless list it prompts for a password.
If I just switch the Airport on my mac off and on again it just connects fine. Is there a way to avoid having to swith airport off and on all the time?
This is only a problem on my Macbook 10.5.7, connection is fine all the time from my Mini 10.4.8
Thank you to anyone who can help

I have not asked same question many times in the same forum.

  • Prompted for password when opening icloud mail

    Hi,
I downloaded Mavericks a week or so ago and everything's fine except one glitch:
Whenever I open the Mail app, it prompts me to enter my password before retrieving anything. As soon as I enter my password it connects to iCloud fine. Under Preferences (General account tab) there is a password slot into which the password can be entered. But when I do that, and then save the changes, it doesn't retain the information. When I re-open the Mail app, the same prompt re-appears. When I check Preferences, the password slot is still empty.
I also have a pop account separate from iCloud IMAP, and that works just fine. Like it did under Mountain Lion.
Is there some kind of glitch still? I downloaded today the 11-08-2013 Maverick mail update from the App store, but that didn't solve this particular problem. It appears to be related to GMail accounts only anyway.
Any thoughts on how I can get the Mail app to retain my password info for the iCloud account so that I don't have to keep re-entering it?
    Many TIA for any hints!
(P.S: My machine is a 2012 15" RD MacBook Pro)

Thanks to both for your replies.
    Eric,
Thanks much for that link and the Apple Token workaround. That did the trick!
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Best,
    Andre

  • When using Mac mail, pictures received do not keep their original dates. Why?

Using the native mail application  (version 6.6) inside of OS X (version 10.8.5),  the dates from the photographs (sent by others) are being removed. To summarize of the picture was taken in November 2010 and sent via email, then saved from the mail application, the date appears to be January 2015.

There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
If iPhoto is not showing you the correct date, make sure the sender is including the Exif metadata when they send the photo.

  • Using Mac Mail with Exchange problem - Please HELP

When using mac mail with exchange server 2000 when i delete an email from mac mail it doesnt delete it from exchange i know this because when i login to my email from microsoft outlook the mail that i deleted is still there.
i have tried changing the mailbox behaviours in mail preferences to not store deleted messages on the server but this didnt do anything do i need to setup directory access in utilities to get an exchange account to work properly any help would be appreciated as we dont want to have to use microsoft products
    many thanks

Are you set up for POP or IMAP? For POP, that's the normal behavior. For IMAP, try making sure you have the synchronize mail folders option selected. The is under Mail->Preferences->Accounts->Advanced.

  • Not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

okay well they got me to take out some .plist files to see if that would help it didn't. I'm not sure what ones that they deleted for my self maybe someone here would be abel to tell you what ones to take out but didn't work the one that came close to working was this going into keychain and deleting the account(s) then reading them again.
if you are to do this please back up first with Time Machine. You can do this with a usb drive.
Okay so go back to where you had internet accounts and make sure mail is shut. click the - on the account your having problems with then quit system preferences.
Okay so then press cmd and space bar at the same time then type 'keychain access' into the search then click on 'keychain access'
once it is open go to the top of the window and put your email address that you are having problems with.
once you have put in your full email, have a look at what comes up i deleted things in the kind colome with 'internet password' and anything with under name that had smtp.gmail.com or imap.gmail.com so it would look like this, map.gmail.com - internet password.
right click and delete them. make sure not to touch any other files that dont say them things on them.
Once you have done this quit keychain access and then restart the computer, once the computer is restarted go back to system preferences and internet accounts and re-add the account.
Hope this helps. if something is not clear just ask.

  • How do you stop needing to verify email password when using yahoo.att with Mac Mail

How do you stop needing to verify email password when using yahoo.att with Mac Mail?

Nevermind, I fixed it (I think).  I went into Settings | Accounts & Sync and found Yahoo at the bottom of the list (alphabetically).  I selected it and it had an optiion to delete the account, which I did.

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)
    http://apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.

  • Email password being rejected using Mac mail

I have a strange issue using mac mail on a mac mini running snow leopard. It is actually my Mom's computer. She calls me over from time to time when her email gives her problems. Usually it amounts to resetting the modem or some other simple fix. Today however not so easy!
This issue came up out of the blue earlier this week. A message came from mail asking her to re-enter her password since the server (charter.net) was rejecting it. She attempted to re-enter it along with a variety of other addresses she had written down and eventually gave up. In this process she also restarted her modem. Today is Friday so it's been a few days with no connection to her email server. This is all her recounting so I am not certain exactly what transpired.
I confirmed a conection with the internet first. re-entered the correct password and got the same message. Then I tried the Username & password via a web interface and got in first try. So I started up an old email client (Entourage) that had been set up from years ago (as a POP account) and it to accessed the server with no problem. At that point I deleted the account in mac mail & recreated it...same message. I then reset the keycahin and deleted/recreated the account again...same message. To rule out POP vs IMAP I tried creating a POP account in mac mail since the original was IMAP....same message. I am at a loss.
For now I reintroduced her to Entourage so she could access her mail. It was abbandoned a couple of years ago since it had been the source of too much confusion for her (she tends to click on things changing views etc without realizing how or what she has done).
Until this, the simplicity of mac mail was working pretty well for her.
Any ideas of what the cause might be or what else I could try would be appreciated.

I installed iCloud on the iPad
K, that wasn't clear in your original posting.  You left that part out.
Are you saying this would be fixed if I upgraded to Mountain Lion?
That is not what I said.  What I should have said is that the OS requirements for iCloud are Lion & Mountain Lion.
The following are keychain troubleshooting that you may wish to try: Use Spotlight to search for a file called login.keychain.
Users/YourUserName/Library(which is a hidden folder and won't show in Finder)/Keychains.
Click Go in the menu bar then Go to Folder and type in /Users/YourUserName/Library and hit the enter key. Look down the list of folder and find Keychains. The "login.keychain" file should be inside.
    Cures for a funky keychain

  • GMail won't accept password using Mac Mail

I set up my POP access according to Gmail's directions, and can log
onto the account fine on the web but it won't accept my password using
Mac Mail. Anyone dealt with this before? Please let me know. Thanks.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Please disregard, I've figured out the problem. In case it could help someone else, when asked for the User Name, you have to include the "@gmail.com" where with Apple Mail, you don't have to.
      Mac OS X (10.3.6)

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
    Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.
