Am Having Problem with iPod 15GB

My iPod died today. It froze up during play, and I reset it, only to find that when it started again, it would play the Apple logo and the !folder sceen back over and over in a loop, not allowing anything to load. I couldn't even turn it off and had to wait for the battery to run out before it would stop the loop. During that loop, the only thing available to do was to reset it, which did absolutely nothing at all.
Now that it is off, I have it on an AC charger, but I have no idea if its actually charging as as soon as I plugged it in, it started the loop again. No battery/charging icons show at all.
I have read the manual and checked out the icon. I've reset it, TRIED to update it- I downloaded the 2006-1-10 update, but when I try to update its software, the iPod turns itself off and the updater says it "can't mount iPod"
UPDATE: I just managed to get it into disc mode, and it now shows a charging battery icon. If anyone has an explanation for why my iPod is doing this, i'd be really grateful.
Its not as if it never gets used or anything - I drain its battery every day and fully recharge it at night.
It is also used as an external hard drive and holds 3GB of data along with about 2GB of music - its 15GB limit isn't anywhere near full. The model is A1040 15GB Windows XP configured iPod.

Thanks. The computer doesn't recognise the iPod very well anymore. I tried updating and restoring, but it failed during the restore, and I now have a half screwed iPod, that is, it no longer displays the !folder, but has all its menus and whatnot back. All my music and data is gone, and I can't load anything on it at all.
When I opened my computer to check the iPod's properties, it showed the F: Removable Drive icon, but when I rightclicked on it, it refused to respond and I had to CtrlAltDelete to get out of it. Same thing happened to the Updater. I tried all the updaters I had to no avail.
I'm doing a diagnostic mode HDD scan, and am hoping that it is going to show up something more substantial than the evidence of dead iPod I have now. At least I know its dead, then.
I'm already sick and tired of trying to fix it, so I have a new 5th gen 30GB model winging its way to me.

Have you been having problems with your ipod nano 3rd gen? got a windows xp computer? is your pc not recognizing it? I think i may have the solution. After 2 2 hour calls to apple tech support they were stumped. we reset it again and again, reinstalled itunes again and again. and they had no solution for me. I went to my device managerand there was a device called (apple Ipod USB driver) with a yellow exclamation point. I tried updating driver but to no avail. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing. But then I had an epiphany. I went to the device manager right clicked the apple ipod usb device clicked properties then update driver. Hardware wizard went up and I chose not to install automatically. and i chose to install driver manually. and then I installed a generic usb mass storage driver in its place and presto!!! it worked! it was instantly recognized by itunes and it took me to the registration page. I did what the apple support team wasn't able to do for 4 hours. I wonder if they're accepting applications... Anyway i hope this helps anyone out there cause i know i went through a lot of stress.

the driver is just a regular usb mass storage driver. it's in your computer. it's just a matter of installing it manually where it saya to include the location of the driver click browse and choose c:\windows\system32

Having problem with Ipod Sound

I am having a huge problem with the sound for my Ipod. I was recently at a concert and using my car audio conversion in both my Ipod and my girlfriends, when I unplugged it from hers to mine I lost all sound to my Ipod when I plug in my headphones now or when I put the receiver back into the bottom. I have reset and restored it and run the diagnostics check to see if it could be the USB or the headphone Jack. Both are in working order but I am still not getting any sound to my Ipod. Can anyone help me with this problem? My Ipod is my life staple for my morning commuet.

You can try to following to rule out/fix a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still a problem you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Anybody else having problem with iPOD TOUCH ios4.3.3. deleting the special speakers menu on the Zeppelin Air ?

The latest ios firmware update for the iPOD TOUCH (4.3.3.) has accidently removed the special speakers menu from the B&W Zeppelin Air.
How can this problem be reported to Apple to fix it ??????????????????

I recently purchased an infiniti FX35 with the ipod integration. After visiting the local apple store "Genius Bar" and speaking on the phone with an "apple expert"; neither the genius bar or the apple expert heard of such an integration option in new cars being sold. They wanted more information from me about how it work rather than them assisting me with my problem.
Anyway, after alot of experimenting I got my ipod touch 2G running firmware 3.1 to work somewhat consistently.
Turn off wi-fi on the touch, power off then back on, go the ipod menu and select playlist. Attach the touch to the infiniti supplied cable through the dock connector. Select the ipod option from dash board. Playlist, songs, artists, etc will appear on the dash display and begin playing.

Any others having problem with ipod on a Dell

I have a mini and nano ipod. When I plug it in, it say's "UBS device unreconized". I know the port is good as I use my camera cable on it fine. We've used one of my neighbors computers (not a Dell), and I can load itunes and not get the message. We also have an old compaq computer that doesn't have internet service and am able to charge the shuffle on it. I tried my dad's newer computer (also a Dell), and have the same problem that it says "UBS unreconized" Neither Dell will even charge the shuffle or nano....is there anything specific with Dell computers that might be causing this? Very frustarted!! Thanks

We have a Dell computer. I bought my husband a Nano for Christmas. Since February, we've had problems, and have had to replace it multiple times. Apple first said it was a bad USB port. Replaced that and the problem continues. Now Apple says it must be a bad motherboard or power supply. The computer is only about a year old, and I have no other problems. The last one was only plugged into the new USB port one time (to initially load it), and after that was only plugged into the Apple wall charger, and it still died a month later. According to the guys at the Genius Bar, it could have happened from only charging it that one time on the computer, even though it didn't die for another month.
Whatever the problem is, it completely hoses the Nano.

Still having Problems with IPOD mini

I formated, updated and restored my iPod Mini; I cahnge computer, virtually everything that was discussed here and still ahving a problem.
I solved the problem of not recognized in itunes but appered in windows as disk drive. Now, when I'm uploading songs, I get to load only a fex (15~20), after that, it appears a message on the ipod display for low battery, then I go back and connect it to the AC adapter and the battery appears fully charged. Then i try again and the same problem.
I remember have run a chkdsk on the ipod and looks like some system files are corrupted. Specifically one names "ipod control"
Doew anybody now what can i do to solve this? Is my last hope before truw it away and by another one (from a different brad due I'm not willing to take the risk of this happening again)

ok, my ipod shows no songs or videos but then when i go to about it says that i only have half of my memory available, then when i have my ipod connected to my computer it shows a whole bunch of songs on it. not only that i go to itunes erase everything on itunes update my ipod and still itunes says that my ipod only has half the memory left on it, what should i do guys?

Try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
This will erase the iPod contents and allow you start from scratch.

I am having problems with my itunes, when plugging my iphone or ipod to the laptop - i can see iphone/ipod in the top right corner of itunes but when i click this to the see what is on theis iphone/ipod the option is no longer there, this was working

Perhaps Bob will see this thread, he is the professor in these cases.
You do not use a WEP password but wpa/wpa2 on router and equipment.
All equipment connects to WiFi, but for your iPad.
Even with all other equipment WiFi off, you cannot connect your iPad.
Your iPad connects to other WiFi nets correctly.
All resets etc done on iPad and Router.
Still I am not sure it is your router for sure, frustrating...
I want to test 2 other things:
1. in your iPad, set everything OFF in Settings/Cellular, turn off/then/on your WiFi, and see whether it will still not connect...
2. If that does not do it: disconnect the router as well as the modem from the power, for 15 seconds, then reconnect the modem, let it fully start, then reconnect the routet let it fully start, turn of your WiFi in iPad, then on, and see whether it will connect.

I have been having problems with my iPod touch and my WRT54G router. I am so frustrated right now because after following the various steps mentioned in one of these threads, following Earthlink's prompts, and speaking with Apple, my iPod touch will still not work. It is connected to the internet but will not download the pages. It is quite frustrating. I have changed from WPA to WEP, I switched the 4th Generated key to the 1st. I've disabled this, enabled that. I've done just about everything. I updated the firmware. I made the switch from a partial bridge to a full bridge. Still nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any other suggestions? The one thing I have not done is enter the Apple code into the iPod which searches for website...-- I cannot access the internet with my iPod so this web address does not work. If anyone has been successful, will you please give me step by step instructions? Yesterday I was on the phone with Linksys for about an hour. Before that with Apple for about an hour and before that with Earthlink. How it is that I can walk into a Bread Co. or Apple Store and immediately connect to the internet with my iPod but I can't in my own house?? Everyone seems to think it is someone else's problem so I've gone around and around. Not one of the Linksys support personnel suggested I look here on this community forum. I had to pay the $9 fee to have advanced Linksys help but still my iPod does not work and when I called back, the man I spoke with seemed to think the case was closed because my PC, Laptop, and iPod are connected to the internet -- the iPod just won't download the webpages or get mail. My iPod's IP address begins with 192. I would appreciate any help on this matter

I had the same issues with my iPod touch & iPhone. It's a known issue with the touch & Linksys G routers. Go into settings on the touch & do the following.
1. Settings - wifi - linksys
2. Erase your DNS settings & input same numbers as in router
Settings.
3. Http proxy should be
in off position.
4. Close out & open safari you should now have a wireless
connection.

If you go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices you can see if you have an iTunes backup. You need one dated before or the exact time you started the restore.

It varies between not responding when I tap the screen and acting as if I double-tap or tap and hold when I tap. Every so often it freezes for a minute or so and then comes back. The scren is constantly changing sizes too such that I often can't see most of the top status bar or other edges. This makes typing almost impossible, ruins most games and generally makes everything difficult, but otherwise the iPod is working correctly. Powering off, shutting down apps, letting it sit have not worked. This has happened once before months ago, but the issue resolved itself somehow. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix?

I'm having problems with my iPod Touch 4th generation. Bluetooth doesn't work at all with any cellphone nor with a computer with built in Bluetooth. I've tried to upgrade/restore to a newer firmware to see if the problem is fixed via hittin shift+restore button and searching for the firmware i've found but no luck. I'm running right now 4.2.1 and can't upgrade nor downgrade. Any help at least fixing the Bluetooth problems meanwhile i find a fix with upgrading?

That is correct. This is not and has never been a feature of the ipod touch.
You can connect to stereo headsets/speakers and some peer-to-peer apps from the app store.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
- If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
