Am I able to add a second display (LED TV) to my iMac via my network?

I have a 21.5 inch Late 2009 iMac (too old for Mirroring to Apple TV). I would like to be able to use my LED TV as a second display, so that effectively I can view non-iTunes media in my lounge room. I currently have the iMac connected to an Airport Extreme via Ethernet cable. I have an Airport Express also connected to the Extreme via Ethernet cable in Bridge Mode in the lounge room. I am wondering if it is possible to connect the TV via Ethernet cable to the Express (the TV has a network connection input), and then be able to use the TV as a second display for the iMac. I know I can do this if I connect the TV directly to the iMac via Ethernet, just am unable to determine if I can do it via the two Airport devices - I guess I am wanting to make the TV a "Network Display". I do also have an Apple TV connected via HDMI cable to that TV. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The easiest way would be to set up a seperate user account. That user would have their own iTunes with their own Library.

  • How do i add a second display desktop to my macbok

How do I add a second display (desktop) to my macbook pro so when I swipe, there are three screen options, the one for widgets, the main one and then another desktop?

Here are the specs for your Compaq Presario CQ5300F Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model supports one VGA output via nVidia GeForce 6150SE onboard integrated graphics. This model also has a PCIe x16 graphics card expansion slot which will accept a PCIe x16 graphics card. According to the specs, installing a discrete graphics card in the PCIe x16 slot will disable the onboard integrated graphics.
The graphics card you purchase must support both monitors you wish to use with your computer. Additionally, most retail graphics cards require a 300 watt or greater system power supply. Currently , your computer has a 250 watt power supply and it will need to be replaced. Please consider the Corsair CX430, CX500, or CX600 series of power supplies to meet the new graphics card power requirements.
Alternatively, if this is mostly for word docs, spreadsheets, day trading and light video, you may wish to consider a USB-to-video adapter such as the eVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or one of the many other adapters on the market.

  • How can I add a second display to my Mac Mini

How can I add a second display to my Mac Mini (mid 2011). HDTV and standard monitor working simultaneously.

True ... but that can be tricky.
Macs can only power so much, and only through approved/proper adapters.
Running two monitors off a single MDP-to-VGA adapter may not work, because Mac may not nicely exchange-talk the simultaneous signals.
There is an adapter that will convert a single minidisplayport to two VGA plugs, but that adapter is $100 instead of $30 (for the single) because it has special hardware in the adapter itself to manage the two signals sinultaneously.
    Alternately ...
Running one through the minidisplayport and one through the HDMI port makes them two separate signals to be processed.

  • Is there anyway to add a 3rd display to the quad core iMac 27?

Is there anyway to add a 3rd display to the quad core iMac 27? I know a 2nd can be added using the mini port.. but curious to see if there is a solution to add a 3rd if desired.
    Thanks!

As Sherman says, the only way to add a 3rd display to an iMac or MacBook is to use a USB to DVI adapter. I've been using the Gefen adapter for a year or so now with my MacBook Pro and it works great:
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4517
But USB does not have a lot of bandwidth, so you can't use it for video, games and other similar stuff. Works great for Mail, web browsing, iWork, etc.

  • Late 2009 imac as second display for new (late 2012) imac. How to?

I have a late 2009 imac 27 that I would like to use as a second display for my late 2012 imac 27. Has anybody connected them successfully? I am getting very mixed information on the topic.

Thank you. Here's where my confusion comes in
"iMac (Mid 2011) and later: target Display Mode does not work with Mini DisplayPort cable"
    Symptoms
When you attempt to connect an iMac (21.5-inch or 27-inch, Mid 2011) and later to another computer with a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, the screen of the target iMac will not become an external display when you press Command-F2 to activate Target Display Mode.
    Resolution
iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) computers do not support Target Display Mode via Mini DisplayPort cables.

  • HT3913 how do i add a second monitor to a late 2009 iMac 27"

I would like to know how to add a second monitor to my late 2009 iMac 27". Has anyone already performed this and if so how?

Depends on the monitor, many support more than one connection.
Also note that: VGA is analog, DVI is digital and HDMI is full HDMI technology.
For a VGA supported monitor, you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor and a VGA cable.
For a DVI supported monitor under 24", you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor and a DVI cable.
For a DVI supported monitor over 24" you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
For a HDMI supported monitor, you will need a > Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a HDMI cable.

  • Why am I not able to add a second birthday is contacts - only in Chinese, Hebrew, or ???

i Have an IPad Air .. Software up to date
i am trying to add a second birthday in my contacts ... But the only options are in Chinese or Hebrew or something else ..
    whats going on ???
the first birthday loaded fine ,, but I can't get the second one to proceed in English

This may be a silly question. How can a person (a Contact in this case) have more than one date of birth? Unless... the person in question may be  Chinese, Israeli, or "something else", in which case the Contact would publish the original birthdate in the corresponding characters
    08/31/1953 < US English
    1953年8月31日 < Chinese(Simplified) [right justified]
    1953/08/31 < Hebrew [right justified]
'Long' dates would be much more intricate
    August 31, 1953

    31  אוגוסט 1953
< Hebrew [right justified] AND you can see that this forum's text editor has REAL trouble with displaying it!!
If you are trying to add Family/Friends birthdays to the Contact - "Jane's Daughter", for example - it is likely not the best way to track it - a 'Memo' field, perhaps?

Here's the problem I am trying to research for you...
There does exist a way to add a second monitor via USB:
USB 2.0 to HDMI Audio Video 1080P Adapter for Windows and Macbook
It's the only device I know of that can do that.  The problem is that it wants a HDMI connection.  So that means a HDMI-to-VGA adapter or converter needs to be found (not VGA-to-HDMI, those are easier to find).
    Interesting article realted to this:
    Hdmi to vga adapter
Maybe somthing like this converter will work.

  • Display Undetected: Cintiq 12WX to iMac via DVI + Mini Displayport Adapter Thunderbolt

Hello all. I'm connecting my Wacom Cintiq 12WX to an iMac 27-inch, Late 2013 (brand new) via a DVI cable connected to the iMac's thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Returning a "No Sync" response on the tablet, iMac is not detecting the display.
The cable is DVI-D (Dual Link), the adapter is DVI-D (Dual Link), and the port on the Wacom appears to be DVI-I (Dual Link) except with a vertical socket for "Analog Ground" connection which is missing in DVI-D – but from my understanding this shouldn't be an issue. Could be wrong, not my area of expertise.
However, in the past I have used this device with a Late 2008 Macbook and a DVI to Mini DVI adapter to the Mini DisplayPort, back when Apple was pre-Thunderbolt, same cable and it worked like a charm.
I've contacted Wacom's support, but they usually take a day or two to get back so I'm hoping someone here can shed some light.
    Thanks in advance.

yeah thats how I connect my 24" dell
minidisplayport is the same connector as thunderbolt

  • Mouse moving to second display when off

I have a late 2012 iMac running Mavericks with a Samsung SyncMaster as a second display.  When the 2nd monitor is turned off (manually from the power button on the monitor) my mouse pointer will still move to that display.  I personally don't use the 2nd display, but my husband and kids do but on their own logins.  I've unchecked the "displays have separate spaces" in mission control, unplugged and plugged the monitor back in, and with every restart it still does it.  Any ideas how to prevent this?  It's get really annoying when I can't find the pointer and have to move the mouse for what seems like forever to get it visible again.

I want to add the second display is connected to the iMac via mini display port to DVI adapter, plugged into thunderbolt port.

  • Hi, I use BootCamp for my windows 7, I have a Macbook Pro 2012, and I want to use a second display, is this possible with my Mac using Windows?

I just dont see a port usable for a second screen. I want to hook it up to my TV to view photos and movies. What can I do?

What do you mean you don't see a port? Does your computer have a HDMI or a ThunderBolt/Mini Display port? You can use these to add a second display. Which one you use depends on what input ports your tv has.

  • Can you add a second hard drive

Just wondering. what is the exact mobo used in the imac 20inch
is there an extra sata port. would like to add an extension to the ports on the back and be able to add a second hard drive at the speeds that sata allows

No, you can't add another hard drive. There isn't an extra SATA port because the Apple Engineers had to squeeze everything in as close as possible to make the iMac this small and thin. The only user-serviceable/upgradeable part of the iMac is the Memory. For other changes, an Apple Authorized Service Provider has to open up your computer. Another alternative could be a USB 2.0 or FireWire External Hard drive, which would work at up to 500 Mbits/sec.

  • Adding a non apple 1080p monitor as second display to 2011 iMac 27"

Looking to add a second display to my new iMac but cant afford another thunderbolt screen. What is the best port and then cable to use to connect a non Apple 1080p slave monitor? I assume DVI or HDMI on the slave monitor side but what port on the iMac side? only choices are USB, Firewire, & Thunderbolt. Advice much appreciated!

Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology and a Mini DisplayPort adapter plugs right into the Thunderbolt port. So depending on your monitors connection, you most likely will need a Mini-DVI to HDMI or Mini-DVI to DVI adapter.
