Am I able to install OSX update within a windows partition?

Earlier today, I restarted my computer but unfortunately, I got the circle with a slash through it. I did a bunch of research on the matter and tried everything. I tried booting to recovery and booting to safe mode to repair my permissions but nothing worked.
I also looked into recovering some of my files that I hadn't gotten the chance to back up which included a variety of options that didn't seem to work either.
Then out of pure curiosity, i booted to my windows partition and lo and behold, I got in. I was also able to access all my data from the mac partition. So i went ahead and backed up everything that needed to be.
I have a friend that's been helping me with this and he said that it may be because the OSX partition header is bad rather than the harddrive header. He then asked if there was a recent update that may have something to do with this? Either way i have no idea. So my question is; If there was an update that i didnt get that perhaps caused this, am I able to install it through the windows partition?
Thanks-

Did your computer come with installer discs? Or, do you have a retail Snow Leopard DVD? If so, then:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • I've not been able to install reader updates, can't print a pdf. after several attempts, I uninstall

I attempted to install reader update when i could not print a pdf file. this was unsuccessful. After I uninstalled adobe, I can not re installe. the download timesout at 64%.
The same is happening with the flash player. i have read the instructions, tried many times but still nothing. can anyone assist me?

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • My iPhone 5S needs 4.7 gb storage to install iOS 8. After deleting all removable apps and removing photos I only have 4.4 gb. Is there anything else that can be done to be able to install the update?

I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1.2 with 5.0 gb total storage. Need 4.7 gb available storage to update to iOS 8.0.2. After removing all apps that I can and photos I only have 4.4 gb available storage. Have not yet added any music or videos. Is there any other way to reach 4.7gb or any other way to install the update?

You don't have to remove anything if you do the update via your pc with i-tunes.
Then you need only 1,1 GB.

  • Should i install driver updates suggested by windows update?

    I have a black MacBook 2.2 i believe late 2007 model.
I have windows 7 installed via bootcamp and have updated bootcamp to 3.2. things are working fine  I guess. I noticed after i installed and ran windows update there are drivers it wants to update for Display - Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family.
Just wondering If I should update this, just because i didnt want it to overwrite a specific driver apple put in there for it..
    Hope that made sense.
    E.T.

    HI E.T.
It should be safe to update drivers via Windows Update, as this will update any Windows drivers, and also the GPU drivers etc.
You can also run an Apple Software Update, from within Windows (Start -> Programs -> Apple Software Update) which will bring you up to date with all the Apple & BootCamp drivers.
    Have fun

  • How do I Install OSX to an External Drive Partition?

I have an external FW800 drive that I've made two partitions on. One partition I want to install OSX to, for external booting; the other partition is just for storage. I'm trying to use the SNL install disk but It's not installing, it just stalls out. I must be doing something wrong.
    Thanks,
    John

Is the external drive prepped correctly?
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.
Or you can clone your current system to the partition:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • TS1609 Error when installing or updating iTunes on Windows 8

When I try to install or update iTunes, I receive a message to the effect that there has been a failure to install property. It is suggested that I verify that I have sufficient privileges to start system services??? I have full administrative privileges of my system. McAfee is not installed.
I've uninstalled and attempted to reinstall the latest version of iTunes several times with the same results. This all began with a simple attempt to update to version 11.0.3.42.
Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi ladymelbo... You're digging up some old threads unneccessarily. While Safari might work for you it seems Apple are no longer interested in its development, it hsn't been updated in nearly 2 years. For those looking to download iTunes at this time the direct download links in the further information section of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates might be more useful.

  • Bought SSD Separately, am I able to install the OEM version of Windows onto it?

    Hi,
I have a new HP Envy Desktop and I bought an SSD seperately which I will be installing soon. I want to install my OS onto it, as I will primarily be using it for gaming. There are no documents I need to back up as the computer is brand new.
Just wondering if someone can clarify the process of me installing the OS which comes with the computer onto the SSD. Am I able to install it through the recovery partition, or do I need to make a bootable disk etc?
Also, will there be any issues with it being an OEM version of Windows as opposed to retail?
    Many Thanks

The easiest method to achieve this is to use the Migration Tool available from your SSD manufacturer, don't forget to back up your personal data.
This site also shows how to do it::

  • Playback from within the Windows partition.

Hi community, I am considering migrating my iTunes library on to the Windows partition so I could play music from the Mac OS as well as from WinXP.
I wanted to know if there's any drawback to do such a thing.
Additionally, I just noticed that the entire library would barely (if at all) fit within the empty space of the WinXP partition. Is there any way to break the Library into two, let's say, music only located within Win partition where as the rest within the Mac partition. Or the other way around? I think here I have to note that I like the feature to make iTunes to keep the library organized. What I mean is, I'd like to keep the feature enabled so I didn't need to worry about where I'm keeping what, and yet, I'd like to break the library into two.
And, being slightly more ambitious. Is there any way to make the division within the music itself? I mean, not just a simple "music and non-music" division.
    Thanks in advance / George...
