Am i able to mirror my macbook to the tv using apple tv 2

am i able to mirror my macbook to the tv using apple tv 2

I've been frustrated by the same question since I got my Apple TV a few days ago. I thought that Airfoil would be able to solve the problem - it doesn't. There is a browser extension called ClickToPlay that used to enable that capabiity, but the latest Apple TV firmware broke it. The Mac display will stream to the Apple TV for a few seconds, but then drops out.
My latest attempt was to try Air Display, but that won't connect to my Apple TV. The documentation indicates that it should, since I think the Apple TV is supposed to be an AirPlay enabled device, but Apple seems to have it totally locked up into iTunes. I've seen rumors that Apple is going to incorporate the ability to mirror Mac computer displays some time in the future, so I'm anxiously waiting for that or for some creative developer to figure out how to do it. If anyone sees the solution, please post it.
Thanks,
Randy Brasch

No, no MacBook can run AirPlay. You need a Mac that was built after 2011 and the MacBooks were discontinued in Mid 2010.

  • I purchased a used macbook and the other persons apple id information is still on this for example apple updates it wont allow me to update apps unless i am logged in with his email. how do i change that

i got a used macbook and the other persons apple id is still connected to the macbook. for example i cant update apps unless i have his passwod but i dont wanna pay for apps such as iphoto and more. is there anything i can do? this is a macbook 13 inch late 2008 model

You're going to have to purchase those apps for yourself. The seller shouldn't have left anything he had purchased on the computer when he sold it to you.

I just corrected my problem.  After connecting to the TV, go to System Preferences, Sound, and select the HDMI rather than Internal Speakers.

  • Is it possible to remotely view a macbook on an HDTV using Apple TV.

I want to if I would be able to view my mac computer on my Vizio HDTV using Apple TV. I want to find a way to do this wirelessly, so if no any ideas?

The Apple TV is not intended to mirror a computer to the TV, you will need a cable to do this but you won't need an Apple TV.

  • Can't mirror from ipad air to TV using Apple TV.

I have a new ipad air and Apple TV, mirroring from my ipad to my TV works fine until I try to mirror anything while using a VPN on my ipad then I either get an error message saying there was a problem try later or I only get sound on my TV but no picture

Welcome to the Apple Community Geneo.
Mirroring won't fill the TV screen. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the iPhone 4S or prior an aspect ratio of 3:2, neither of these will fit exactly into a TV screen which as an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Apple TV will not zoom the mirrored image, because it may well cut off information which is situated at the top or bottom of the screen.
You may wish to try each of the settings in ‘Settings > Audio & Video > Adjust for AirPlay overscan’ for the best setting that suits you.

  • HT3224 Migration created a new user account on my new MacBook, increasing the space used. Any solution?

I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro. Using the migration assistant, I transfered my old backed up (using the Time Machine) things to the new MacBook Pro. It  created another user account with the old Administrator ID. This about doubled the space usage on my machine and sort of slowed down the machine. There are no Apple Stores in my area and the machine was brought from the UK. So how do I solve the space problem?

Thanks Neil. What I did before asking the question was simslar to what you suggested. I logged in with the new account, went to the Users&Groups pane, clicked on the other sccount and asked to delete. Which it did. With the older MacBook Pro and under Disk Utilities the space used was about 160 GB. With the new MacBook Pro and after the delete, the Disk Utility is giving me used space as 322.22GB (a difference of 150 GB all things considered). That I think was a substacial increase and I want to figure out why. May be I did something wrong?
Your help is very much appreciated.

  • HT204291 Everything was working fine with ATV ie mirroring and the apple tv itself, now I no longer am able to mirror my macbook air for some reason.

Last week i was able to use every function of my ATV, however in the last couple of days, I've been unable to get my macbook air to mirror to our tv. Nothing has changed - I havent done anything different. Ive read and re-read discussions to no avail. Please help if you know how I can troubleshoot this issue.
not sure if atv or atv2 but shouldn't make a difference in working order, as I said earlier, nothing has changed so why is it no longer working?
    Cheers

I have macbook air with osx 10.9.5.  Play thru hdmi cable to TV no problem until I loaded Sling and played the first time.  The next day it would not play to my big screen thru the same port and cable.  My 10 year old Sony laptop will play with no problem, but not as high a rate and quality.  Seems to me Apple didn't like me playing their competition?  Could this be the problem?

  • How to mirror 2006 MacBook OS 10.5 using AppleTV wirelessly?

I have a 2006 MacBook Pro (2.16GB Intel Processor) that I need to connect wirelessly to AppleTV. Currently running OS 10.5.8. Any work arounds?

You may wish to search Bing for alternatives to AirPlay mirroring. I'm not going to suggest any to avoid them being construed as a recommendation, but they shouldn't be difficult to find.

  • Can I mirror my macbook pro screen to an Apple TV?

Hello, I am using a 2010 macbook pro running OS X 10.8 and want to mirror the screen to my apple tv 720p running Apple TV Software version 5.0.2 (4250). Is it possible? How?
I know it is airplay, but how exactly does it works? I want to mirror youtube videos, safari pages, etc.
    Thanks!

Only recent Macs support Airplay Mirroring and I don't think yours will do it.  Go to this page:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/osx/whats-new/features.html#airplay
and read note 1 at the bottom of the page.

  • Has anyone been able to mirror from their iPad 2 to their Apple TV?

I can use AirPlay to play videos from my iPad but not mirror my iPad screen to my Apple TV? Any suggestions? Thanks

I figured it out. My Apple TV for some reason wasn't updating to the latest version. It was stuck at 4.3.
This might be what's happening for other people.
    To fix this:
Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV. Note: If you do not disconnect the power cable before connecting the micro USB cable, you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list.
Connect one end of a micro USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports.
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367?viewlocale=en_US
This will install version 4.4.1 and the mirror option will be available once it's plugged back in and you set up your network again...
