Am I able to sync to a new computer without losing iPhone backup?

My situation: My old computer crashed, and now I have a new computer with iTunes, but my phone is not synced with it. I have transferred all of my purchases to it. And I used the "Back up" option available in iTunes when the phone is connected.
My question: Am I able to re-sync to this new computer without losing all the things saved in a back-up, such as contacts, calendars, notes, text messages, and settings? I don't care about the music, photos, etc..
My original plan was to back it up, by right clicking it in the iTunes left panel, then sync it, then restore from back up. But I am not sure whether I will be able to restore from back-up after I resync it and erase everthing.
Can anybody help with this issue? Step by steps are helpful
Thanks,
Blair

PLEASE HELP! So to reiterate, when I go to sync my iPhone tothis new iTunes library I get the message:
“The iPhone “XXXX” is synced withanother iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with thisiTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing andsyncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTuneslibrary.”
So will I be able to sync it like this and then restore my contacts, calendars, notes, text messages, and settings that backed up by right clickingthe iPhone in the iTunes panel? I just can’t afford to lose that data.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks

Using the information below you can transfer content to your new computer.  Thiis will at least update the content to have what is on your phone but you will still be syncing with a new iTunes library.  It will replace your content but hopefully you can make the replaced content match your existing content.
Make a backup of your computer always.  This is the digital age and it is all too easy to lose music and photos in an instant.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

You can download a free application that will take your music from your iPhone and place it onto your Macintosh HD.
One of these should suit your needs:

  • Syncing contacts to new computer without losing all info.

so i just built a new computer and i tried to sync the phone with outlook. when i did so all my contacts got erased. is there anyway for me to get my contacts to my outlook? i backed it up so i am restoring it right now. thanks.

Syncing iPhone contacts with a supported application on your computer when the address book on your computer is empty, you need to enter one contact in the address book on your computer before syncing. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later.
This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select.
The same applies to calendar events with Outlook.

  • How- Sync to a new laptop without losing iPhone music?

Hi! I went to get the new iphone today (ack; cracked screen!) and I was told I needed to 'sync' my info from my old iphone first onto my laptop.
I am very thankful for those who take time to answer a cry for help; you will never know what it means to the other end of the computer who needs help.
So....I went home and tried; but it looks like I lose all the info on it.
My laptop is new; I've never synced it before.   The laptop does have about 20 audio files I would like on the iphone, but right now they are in the computers 'music folder.'
When I press sync; the bar at the bottom of the sync page is significantly smaller which leads me to believe that on my iphone the 500 songs are lost and replaced by these 20 songs.
I'm worried that everything is going to be lost with my contacts, calendar, etc.  My iphone is the one up to date.
Can you help?  I really am looking forward to a new iphone!  THANK YOU!!!!
    Juls

  • Problem Syncing Ipad to new computer without losing data

    Hi
I realise this has been covered many times - so im sorry for covering really old ground but im not very apple savvy and im struggling rather
Im trying to sync my ipad1 to a new pc - and strangely syncing is fine but whenever i try to apply chnages to my library I get "this ipad is synced to another library.... erase and resync"
now i understand i can only have the ipad linked to one itunes library and i need to switch it to this one - So ive been following the common instructions - like these https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3770542
but im a little confused what u do following the restore.
After restore I get the - "sset up a new ipad and another option to restore the backup.
Should I be starting my ipad afresh and then resyncing to my library? ive tried restoring the backup but i just get the same erase and resynce warning described above - so i assume this isnt right
im just a little concerned that my ipad library will be reset after starting afresh
thanks in advance and sorry for asking a question on a subject thats been covered many times

All apps should be in your iTunes library - stored in the iTunes named folder where all other iTunes content is stored. 3rd party apps are stored in a Mobile Applications named folder located at the first level within in the iTunes folder. You can transfer the Mobile Applications folder from your backup placing it in the new iTunes folder with iTunes quit when doing so.
If you don't want to do this, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
Next and without syncing, right-click on your iPhone in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up.
If you transfer the iTunes named folder from your backup to the same location on your restored computer's hard drive with iTunes quit when doing so, your iPhone should not be erased of all iTunes content with the first sync.

  • How can I sync my iphone to a new computer without losing music

I have heaps of music from my old work computer on my phone. I want to sync to my computer at home now. How can I do this without losing the music and other data???

To sync to a new computer without losing your data follow the steps outlined by Ingo2711 in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3801263?tstart=0.  However, as pointed out in this post, music not purchased from iTunes syncs only one way: computer --> phone.  (Music purchased from iTunes can always be redownloaded for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).  You will have to purchase 3rd party software in order to transfer non-purchased music from your phone to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

Can't get my Music off of my iPhone 4...
My computer died & had to get a new one, so now I cannot sync my iPhone 4 with the new computer, without losing all of my Music, because the only Music I have is on the iPhone 4 only, not on the computer. No Backup anywhere : (
If I choose to sync it tells me all of the Content that does not match the iTunes library on the computer will be erased, do you want to proceed & I have to say no.
How do I replace the music library on my Computer with the Music on the iPhone?
I got my pictures off because you can access them when you connect the iPhone using Windows 7 but you cannot see any of the music so you cannot access it when using windows so don't know what to do...
    Help...

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer.

how can i sync music from my phone onto my new computer without losing it all? my old computer's hard drive crashed so it is unusable.

If you do not have a back up of the crashed hard drive you can download an app to copy from the iPhone to iTunes on the new hard drive.
I have used Pod2Mac.  There is also Pod2PC.
There are numerous choices, some free, some payed.  Do a Google search.

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D
