Am I able to update someone elses ipod

I have my own ipod, ipad and my granddaughter's ipod on my own computer and there is no problem there.
I have another granddaughter, who lives far away, who is coming to visit me this weekend and she has asked me if I can update her new ipod which she got for Christmas as she has limited access to a computer.
This will already be registered to her and while I know the limitations on music transfers I just want to be able to update her ipod to iOS 5. Am I able to do this.

Yes.  However, unless you move all the synced media (music, apps, synced photos and videos) to your computer, the media will be lost.  See:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
Also, she can no longer sycy to her own computer unless she hass all the media on that computer and then makes a backup on her and computer and then restores from that backup.

An iPhone's content is designed to originate or be backed up on the computer with which is was last synced.
Getting content off an iPhone and onto a computer with which it was not synced can be done though. Read the following to determine if this is an option for her: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
This will not restore anything not purchased from the iTunes Store. For that you will need to rely upon a number of third party utilities that claim to be able to do it.

  • My ipod touch shows up in my itunes with my name but when I go to mycomputer it shows up as someone elses ipod?? Any thoughts on this weirdness would be helpful

When I did an upgrade all the songs were wiped off my ipod touch.  Now my ipod shows up with my name in itunes but it shows up in "mycomputer" with someone elses name.  It won't sync all the way either, it says the device has timed out.....Help Please?!

That means that iTunes is not seeing the iPod properly. Try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    Or
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • Connecting someone elses ipod to my computer

i have my ipod set to be managed manually because i dont store my music on my pc
my brother wants me to add some music to his but his is automatically managed by his computer
how can i prevent his ipod from automatically syncing so he doesnt lose his music hes from florida and in ny now so cant have him plug into his computer to make it manual
i see the setting in itunes under devices that says prevent ipods from syncing automatically that seems like it would do that is that what i need set?

Well if your willing to spend money to get all of your music/videos back ligitmitly use a tool called wondershare transpod for mac I think they have one for windows also, But I highly reccomend it becuase I had over about 11,000 songs and movies and I retrieved all of it safely you can access all of your file with this program and be able to throw it in the in the new iTunes library if you want. Also if you want some of your friends music you can use this program to transfer songs from his/her iPod to your library. The program runs about $20.00 fairly priced but well worth it trust me it saved my life. I hope this helps.

  • I recently was given someone elses ipod touch.  There are some songs on there I want to keep and many I want to delete.  Is there a way to upload the songs to my mac  so I can add them to a play list I have and delete the one's I don't want?

I recently was given someone else's ipod touch.  It has some songs I would like to keep, but most I would like to delete without losing the one's I like.  Is there anyway to either upload songs to itunes in my mac or sync a playlist with the ipod without erasing all the music currently on the ipod.  Also, is there a way to delete specific tunes on the ipod?
    Thanks.

There is no legal way to do this-  You would need to be using the same AppleID (account)
As far as deleting the songs, in a situation like this, you should restore the iPod which will delete the songs as well as allow you to sync your own music.
For instructions on how to delete/add songs  it's best to check the manual:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipod
As far as restoring, you didn't mention what model you are using but just choose your model from here (they have step by step instructions):

    No
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • How can I import songs from itunes onto someone elses ipod?

Im trying to put some songs on my friends ipod but its not letting me and i can't figure it out. Please help me thank you!!

    Yup.
Of course, there's nothing physically stopping you from loaning your friend your CD to rip it to his own computer for syncing to his own iOS device. It wouldn't likely be legal, though; check the license agreement from the CD producer/distributor.

  • Is it legal to add music from your own library onto someone elses IPOD????

My friend wanted me to add some of my music onto his IPOD and the link for his IPOD will not show up in my ITunes. I do not know if it is legal to do this and perhaps this is preventing me from transferring the music. He has used the IPOD on his own computer before...

Probably has nothing to do with your technical problem, but it is illegal for you to put your music on his iPod.
Please don't steal music (or help him do so).

  • How can I get my Ipod to play on someone elses computer?

How can I get my Ipod classic to play on someone elses computer.  Not my home computer where my library is stored?

The simplest -- and safest way for both sides -- is to use the same sort of cable you use for the AUX port on your car -- an min-jack to min-jack cable. Plug it into the headphone plug on your iPod, and connect it to the Line-In on the friends computer. This eliminates any risk of your iPod being detected by iTunes on your friends computer and getting corrupted, and also elimates any risk of malware attempting to corrupt the iPod. If you are worried about battery, simply connect your iPod to an external charger when you do this.
When I'm at work, I never connect my iPod to my work computer. I just use an external speaker. The iPod is only connected to its primary iTunes, and then I only update that iTunes when it is absolutely necessary.

  • Connecting your ipod to someone elses computer

I am going on a trip can I use my friends computer to charge my ipod?
I'm also on a mac she's on a pc. I don't want to lose any of my music.
I was told if I put it on someone elses computer I could lose my library.

Yes you can charge off the Windows machine. The Windows machine won't be able to read the iPod because it is in Mac format (Macs can read Windows formatted iPods though). Windows will ask you if you want to reformat it to windows. Of course say no. Now it will either recharge or windows might eject the iPod since you said not to reformat it and may turn off power to the port. If that latter, replug it in and when that pop up box comes up, just ignore it and let it stay up while the iPod recharges.

  • How come someone elses Apple ID Shows up when I try to update my apps

How come someone elses Apple ID Shows up when I try to update my apps? It's Grey and won't let me change it. I've signed out and resigned in, but this very odd email address always shows up as my apple ID. Please help if you can, I just need to update some apps.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove may not be the one named in the update notice. For example, the App Store could prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app could be "Final Cut Pro." Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    3. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
    4. At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
    5. Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Can i transfer music from my ipod to someone elses itunes account?

Can i transfer music from my ipod to someone elses itunes account??

CD's you can give to them to rip to their own iTunes.  If you do that, legally you are supposed to delete any copies you may have in your posession as you no longer own the content.
For iTunes purchases, they are permanently tied to the account they were purchased with.
You can always gift the content via iTunes to your friend, purchase and give them CD's, or let them buy their own copies.

  • My apple ID is showing someone elses email address and not mine so when i want to buy or update apps it brings this other email address up. please can someone help how do i put it back to my email address?

my apple ID is showing someone elses email address and not mine so when i want to buy or update apps it brings this other email address up. please can someone help how do i put it back to my email address?

First go here - https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/ and login under the manage tab.  Check your information and be sure it is all correct.
An AppleID is nothing more than an email address, so if you see another email address in the store, then someone has logged in with a different AppleID than yours.  Did you let someone else use your iPhone?

  • Someone elses updates appearing in my app store???

So today I opened my app store and I had two updates. One for final cut and other for angry birds which i've never installed on my system. I thought what the heck and pressed update on angry birds, but then a window popped up that told me to log in with some random russian account. So im thinking that was the account who that angry birds update belongs to. My question is WTH? How the heck did this happen? How is there someone elses updates in my app store? I can't even hide that update... How to remove it?

When a stranger's Apple ID appears on your Mac in conjunction with an update for an app that you have never installed, you have a pirated app on your Mac. This is the closed Apple ID of a know and admitted Russian app pirated. This pirated app has been cracked with the MAS receipt from a free app, often Angry Birds, acquired by the person whose Apple ID you see. However, the pirated app is not Angry Birds. Angry Birds is not the app that you are looking for on your Mac.
You may or may not have realized that it was a pirated app when you installed it. You may have believed that it was a trail version or a "free" version.
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
    Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.
