Am I allowed to Train and repair apple products from home as a new business?

I love apple products and I was thinking of a computer repair business. However, I would like to mainly concentrate on Apple Hardware.
On the ACMT page it states something like the ACMT does not authorise you to repair apple products. I read about the service centre but you need a minimum of 50 machines or something.
I've seen small businesses on the internet that do apple repairs so how do they manage it?
What do I have to do to be able to repair apple products and abide by all rules?
I am in the UK.
Many thanks,
~Luke

Luke,
Short answer: Yes, maybe.
Court cases on this subject go back a hundred years.  A man by the name of George Eastman invented roll film but the camera had to be loaded into the camera in a dark room.  His philosophy was that he could give the camera away but you had to buy the film and processing from him.  The courts did not allow him to restrain trade in that manner.  (BTW, you will not find that on Kodak's history site.  See US vs. Eastman Kodak, 1915)
Bill Gates had a similar idea.  'Give' away his OS for $20 a copy as long as the manufacturer of the computer hardware preinstalled his OS on every box that left the factory.  He soon had most of the world hooked.  I remember shopping for computers in 1984 and hearing the plug for MS-DOS.
If you make a service agreement with Apple, you are bound by their rules.  But, once someone buys an Apple device, they own the device, not Apple.  Courts have limited how many millions and billions of Dollars George and Bill could make with their attempted monopolies.
While the US court cases will not control the outcome of a British court ruling, the information is instructive.  Also, read the cases where Steve Jobs wanted to exclude Microsoft from making cheap imitations of his OS with Windows, even after Steve lifted the ideas from Xerox.
There are plenty of self righteous attorneys out there willing to work for self righteous inventors to protect monopolies.  Then you have open source and the San Francisco Home Brew Club.
Your question is a little too deep for this forum so read up on your own or hire an attorney who has already done the reading.  There is plenty of reading for everyone!

  • How do you remove iTunes and other Apple products from my PC, manually?

    I just bought a $250 5th-gen iPod. But I can't install iTunes.
A while back, I think I just deleted the program folder or something, or maybe the the uninstaller just somehow broke on its own. In any case, the program folder is gone and the uninstaller doesn't work.
Running the iTunes installer gives me the following error:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below.
I did a search and found the iTunes.msi file in a temp folder. I selected it in the installer to try to solve the problem, but I received another error message:
The file "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temp\IXP460.TMP\iTunes.msi" is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes. Try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes.
So, I uninstalled QuickTime and tried to manually remove every iTunes files and iTunes-related registry entry. No good.
When I run the iTunes installer now, it hangs\freezes when it gets to "Registering modules."
The only solution to the problem is a full manual uninstall.
I called Apple tech support and explained the problem, and they said that registry issues were a third-party problem, emailing me a tech support page I'd already read and suggesting I call Microsoft -- but oh, she said, make sure you don't tell them it's a problem with iTunes registry entries "or they'll refer you back to us."
Yes, because what the iTunes installer does to my PC is not a third-party issue.
I don't blame the tech support people, though, and I hope my post here doesn't lead to any of them being reprimanded.
Anyway, my request is simple: Someone, anyone, give me a list of every file and registry entry that Apple software adds to my computer, so I can remove it manually.

When I run the iTunes installer now, it hangs\freezes when it gets to "Registering modules."
hmmmmm. by any chance do you have SpyCatcher (or the version of GhostSurf platinum that contains SpyCatcher) on that PC?
if so, try uninstalling SpyCatcher altogether prior to the itunes install. if it goes through properly this time, launch itunes at least once prior to reinstalling SpyCatcher.
    see:
iTunes 7 or later for Windows Installation stops responding while "registering modules"

  • Do you have to have a licence to repair Apple Products?

I want to know if it is legal to repair apple products and not have the risk of being sued.

Additionally, only Apple Authorized Service Providers have access to genuine new parts, tools and diagnostic software needed to perform warranty repairs and get paid back by Apple for the job.
If you go and wreck an expensive Mac/iPhone/iPad/etc., yes the owner can sue your arse and Apple may even pitch in to help.

Guys thank you so much for the advises and helps.. i went back to Extra store and finally they changed my unit to a new one..Now i can figured out which one has facetime or none, from the box itself at back  it writtens arabic so definetely no facetime and if english, portugese and chinese characters has 100 % with facetime.. I'm so blessed that they agreed to changed my unit to new one. At first the manager opened  four boxes of new unit for me to check if facetime is there and he reassured me there's new batch of iphone5 coming on 2nd day. I want to establish a new and separate Apple ID from my husband's.  We have six Apple devices between us that are aleady associated with our current joint ID.How is this done?

In order to have a separate 5GB of storage he would need to have his own iCloud account with a separate ID.  You can still share the same ID for iTunes; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
In order to migrate his phone to a separate account, begin by saving any photo stream photos that he wants to keep on his phone to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos he wants to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud on his phone, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  Other devices still using the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, choose Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to his new account.
Finally, if there is any merged data in the accounts you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account.

  • Is Samsung Galaxy 4 compatible with iMac and other Apple products?

Is Samsung Galaxy 4 compatible with iMac and other Apple products?

Yes, the s4 is compatible with music and photo transfers between your imac.  I don't have experience with the cloud, but it should be the exact same thing.
Now, there will be a few differences between how you get the files onto said device.  With the iPhone, you may be able to do it wirelessly, but with the s4 you will have to plug it in.
The s4 will not work with iLife or iLife applications either.  However, bigger screen, more customizable ui and experience with samsung phones personally, I would recommend the s4 over the iPhone 5.
    Finally iMac

  • If i buy an apple product from the actual customer who bought it, and i face some problem with it, but the device is still under warranty, so would there be any issue for getting the device checked?

If i buy an apple product from the actual customer who bought it, and i face some problem with it, but the device is still under warranty, so would there be any issue for getting the device checked?

If you make an appointment at the Genius Bar about a problem, they will check and evaluate the device, and if it warrants a replacement under warranty, they make the final determination. We are users here. This is a user to user support forum. We cannot determine what Apple will do. I can tell you what I already did, the warranty follows the device.

I found some little black dots n my iPhone 5 screen. I've only had it for 2 weeks. What are they and will apple replace my iPhone for a new one or fix it?

They should have one in Stock, but you never know. Call your Apple Store and tell them you have an iPhone 5 color and GB, and that you most likely will need a replacement, do they have any in Stock. If yes, go in, if not ask for advice on how to handle your problem.

  • How to unregister apple product from apple id i no longer have access to?

I just now found out apple the apple id support page. I've been registering my Apple products and when I got to my Macbook I got an error message saying this product is registered to a different apple id.
I went ahead and went through the process of typing in my current and previous emails and all I end up getting is an option to change my current apple id's password. I've only had one apple id which I have changed the email to once, so I have no access to another apple id.
So basically, I'm asking if I can disconnect an apple product from an apple id I don't have access to, so I can register it to the only Apple ID I use? Any help?

HI, its my first time buying apple product from online, I'm from Sarawak, Malaysia, i would like to know what type of post/delivery service will be used to deliver the product i ordered to my house address.

iPhones, iPads, iPods are dispatched from China.  Apple accessories are dispatched from Singapore.  The carrier is FedEx.
Online purchases could be delivered to office addresses or home addresses.  Track your item through the email sent by Apple.  If necessary,  you could change the delivery address to your office one.

  • Training and Certification - Apple

I am a student doing my third year bca, in india. and i look forward to get myself an apple training and certification. any advice?? Xsan and Media Administration Certification or Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) Certification.

It's not possible to state a blanket requirement for education. What education, training and certifications you will need for a job with Apple will depend on the particular job. The job description should state the education and experience they are looking for in a candidate. Look through the jobs in the appropriate category on Apple's employment site and you can get a feel for the type of education you will need to pursue if you're trying to plan your college course path.
what is  the job of an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT)
    Repairing Macintosh computers. See:

  • Verify and repair permissions questions from wierdness

    Good morning
I'm getting ready to upgrade to the snow cat but !!!!
I went into disk utility with 10.5.8 to verify and repiar perimissions and I now have a list disk utility won't touch, eg, "permissions differ system/library/coreservice/airport base station agent ..... " and others but the ones that really worry me are showing up in history like "Warning SUID file "system/library/filesystems/appleshare/afpload" has been modified and cannot be repaired.
I haven't start up from the OSx disk to repair permissions but from the Hd.
    Any advice out there ?
    thanks

    Worry not!
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard changed the location of a number of system components.

  • Just set up our Apple TV and it works fine for NetFlix.  However want to stream photos and I Tune library from home computer but this computer accesses the internet thru a VPR at my wife's place of enployment. Other than a 2nd computer any suggestions?R

Just set up Apple TV on home network. Works fine for NetFlix but we can't stream I Tune libruary or digital photos thru it to our home TV as because of my wife's work we bypass COX and access the internet thru a VPN offered by her employer.  Was told we either have to buy a second computer (two expensive for just these two functions) or keep turning on and off the VPN(not practical). Any other ideas? Thanks

Does she need to access the internet through her employer, or is she just trying to access her internal network at work?
If it's the latter, split-stream VPN clients (like Cisco AnyConnect) will split traffic so that only that directed at a particlar domain gets tunneled.
I have an AnyConnect client at home, but I normally only activate it when I'm using it, so I've never tested it with HomeSharing.  I'm currently traveling, but when I get home tomorrow, I'll try it out and let you know if it works.  If it does, your wife can check with her employer to see if she can configure AnyConnect to work with them.

  • I just bought my first and only apple product yesterday, an iPad mini with retina. How can I print to a non AirPrint enabled printer?

I have heard that unless I have a Mac or newer AirPrint printer, I will not be able to print from my iPad.  This is my first apple product, so I really hope that is not the case, or it may have to go back. I do not want to have to go out and buy a new printer when mine works fine and is only a couple of years old. Please let me know if there is a solution to my problem.

Check the app store for a third party printer application.  Depending on who made your printer, the manufacturer may have an app.  Otherwise, look for a third party app.
Whatever you find won't have the flexibility you would obtain if you had an AirPrint printer.  For example, Epson has an app, but it cannot print from all functions (e.g., mail).
