Am I being spied upon?

Hello,
Without sounding like a paranoid fool, and keeping a long story short, I (and a few friends) have reason to believe that a particular person who can get access to my iMac desktop on occasion, MAY have set up something so that they can spy on any of my online activities from their own PC or Mac. Yes, it's one of those great relationship problems so we live together and share the same router. I've changed my email passwords several times along with the Mac's password, and I have the firewall set up. But within a few days this person will drop a remark or reference a webpage in just such a way that tells me they may have read one of my emails or know a webpage that I visited, but it's never quite enough detail that I can call them on it. Either it's just a whole series of coincidences in which case I would feel ashamed of thinking like this, or they are really very good at playing some type of distorted game with me.  My friends think it's the latter. It's very possible he has enlisted the help of a very computer savvy friend to assist. All I need is real proof either way and I can deal with the outcome. I am not computer tech savvy, but I can find the reports in Console and I can use Terminal if told what to type.
I have a previous post about a first time boot up crash which may be related to this whole fiasco.
Below is some data that I thought might help, or not, but if anyone can help me with this, let me know what you need and I will be glad to send anything else along. By the way, my computer name is first-last's-imac but in Console, my nickname appears which is bayotter only I can't figure out how that got there since I thought it's supposed to show the computer name. Also, recently I noticed that the NetBios name was changed from a series of letters and numbers to simply 192. Our IP router address is 192.168.1.1, my iMac IP is 192.168.1.4, and we have an Apple Airport Extreme plugged into the router with IP 192.168.1.12.
Thank you in advance.

AND

I appreciate the advice from both of you. I don't want to make a terrible decision with my life based on suspicion. I need the proof. It's just who I am.
I do have some additional information that may shed some light on this. This is the log when I signed on tonight. The name I use for the sign in is First Last, then password; hence, my machine is called first-last's-imac. That is reflected in the log file. But further down, my nickname bayotter appears as a user. I don't use that on this computer but everyone knows my nickname. And the words Failed to determine kerberos principal name, which someone said means that an incorrect password was attempted on a log in. Does this mean anything?

  • Tool to generate object types being worked upon by team members

do we have any table in sap where in all the data regarding the user along with the objects worked upon by him are stored?
    thanks'
    jai

You don't want to be spying on your people, do you?
Each object together with creator/changer information is stored in different tables, so quite a tedious task. The closest I can suggest is table VRSD for version management, try typing in your name as AUTHOR and a narrow date range in DATUM, it should show you the stuff that you changed and released recently.

P.S. TADIR shows only the "person responsible", usually the original creator of the object

  • Settings being reset upon shuttdown

Recently (as of today) my MacBook Pro has been having issues "remembering" my settings/preferences for various applications/tools. Several miscellaneous things are being forgotten regardless of my continuous efforts to reapply them:
    View options for icons
    Background image
    iTunes Library/Playlists
    Safari/Firefox bookmarks
    Time Appearances
Widgets (it was completely reset to default)
    etc.
Right before I first encountered the problem I noticed that my dock was behaving oddly. It would not magnify upon mousover and there would be no text indicating the name highlighted application. I had shrugged it off just thinking it was momentarily glitching but upon restart all of these settings/preferences were reset.
From there, I proceeded to reapply them in hopes that this wouldnt happen again but alas it has. It is quite the annoyance.
I have FileVault running if that helps at all (I've had a few problems with this computer before because of it). Any ideas?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, ness0013. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. You wrote: "I have FileVault running if that helps at all (I've had a few problems with this computer before because of it)."Do the following in the order specified:1.1. Run at least steps 1-3 of the Procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. This will identify and potentially correct any general disk or permission issues.
1.2. Then follow the instructions in "Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4: FileVault - How to verify or repair a home directory image." This will either identify and fix, or rule-out, specific issues with your encrypted Home folder.2. If steps 1.1 & 1.2 above do not sort out the issue, then assure that your account is the Owner and has Access of Read & Write on the following folders:
    • Your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
    • Your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder.
Open the Get Info window for each of on these folders. Check, and change if necessary, the settings for Owner and Access accordingly in the Details sub-pane of the Ownership & Permissions pane of the Get Info windows of each folders.
    3. I trust you've not tried renaming your encrypted Home folder. If so, see "Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 or later: Return to default desktop, apparent 'loss' of home directory."
    Good luck!

  • DVD's being ejected upon insertion.

I've noticed a few similar questions, but most are from at least several months ago - if not longer. My mbp can accept cd's without much problem (reading them can take a few moments, but nothing unusual). However, lately I've had significant trouble with dvd's. I insert them, they appear to be read and then are ejected before being mounted. Happens with both dvd movies and data discs (burned and original).
I've done some troubleshooting (resetting both SMC and PRAM) and neither appears to help. I will be attempting a thorough cleaning of the lens in hopes that it might resolve the issue. Beyond that, however, what could the problem be?
    Many thanks.

  • Folders being closed upon connection loss?

The issue is that previously it would bring up an error saying that connection was lost and would still show the folders but without any contents, and it would've been possible to do a refresh when you'd have a connection, now it instantly brings to Network folder.
    Update:
Previously before the OS reinstall, I've tested what's causing the CPU usage to go up so high using ProcessExplorer, and found out that explorer.exe is using too much services/libraries, mainly ntdll.dll, which is being looped constantly, i.o. ntdll.dll would be copied and copied and copied until you'd restart the process (explorer.exe)

Hello,I'm currently having an issue with a user that is often on the road and obviously it's often that connection is being lost. That person often opens a lot of folders that we have on our local file server, and as soon as his connection is lost it brings him to the "Network" folder. Any idea what could be the issue? Also CPU would rise up to a %100 in total (File explorer .exe consuming approx. 40-60% because explorer.exe has a looping ntdll.dll library being looped in its process). He uses a Dell XPS 13 ultrabook with a four core i7 processor. Before connection loss:After connection loss:

  • Blank DVD's being ejected upon mounting.

I know there's a topic right below me about DVD's being ejected, but that topic is about all DVDs. My problem seems to be just blank DVD's and burned DVD's. I've tried different brands, doesn't seem to be the problem. I was thinking about trying a cleaner, anyone have any brands in mind? Also, if that does not fix my problem, could the optical drive be replaced?

If your machine is under a year old, I would take it in for service.
    If your machine same thing.
Wouldn't want you to damage your machine so badly they'd say its your fault they have to repair it, and they wouldn't want to cover it.

  • Recent History stopped working; All extensions keep being disabled upon FF startup.

Before installing version 13.0.1, FF would save my history. Now for some reason, it doesn't.
Along with this, version 13.0.1 had been set to NOT display thumbnails of past viewed webpages upon startup. Now it does. In the process of troubleshooting, I finally got rid of this problem but that's when the previously described "no history" problem came up.

Hey cor-el, thanks for replying. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how one looks at it) my problems with FireFox disappeared as quickly as they appeared.
So I took a deep breath and installed FF13 over version 12 and what to my surprise - the problems I had been experiencing all went away. My browsing history started working again, my plugins were not all disabled when I restarted FF13, and I figured out how to start FF13 with a blank page instead of with the new tabs page. (That, my friend, is a huge blunder on the part of Mozilla, and I have read that a fix is imminent - July 17 IIRC.

So thanks for hanging in there with me. I appreciate it, especially your explanation of what happens when the cache is cleared.
Still a couple of (new) problems but I'll describe those in another thread.

  • Thumbnail from middle of video being added upon export

    FCP 7
    OS:  10.7.5
I've been using the same settings on FCP for years.  no updates to either my OS or FCP.  no settings changes.  but now when I export the video (using Squeeze-again, same settings as before) - an image from the middle of the video is going to the first frame of my video - looks like it's some sort of thumbnail.
    here is a sample.
    http://web29.streamhoster.com/pascalevdb/mind_body_premier_mp4/meditation_stretc h_2.mp4
the image of woman before the logo is NOT in my sequence.
    any ideas?

Not that I doubt you, but just want to verify - on your sequence you have clicked on the timeline and typed the Home key to see if there is a frame of video hiding there at the very first frame of the sequence?
When you export the video for Squeeze, are you doing a self-contained export? Or are you sending it to Squeeze from the timeline?
If you do a Without Conversion, Self Contained QuickTime export from your timeline, is the frame still there?

  • Am I being spyed on?

Recently I have started to get pop ups on my computer daily about someone requesting access to my computer. It shows an IP address and lets me allow or block the hostname, i always block, but different users seem to attempt to access my computer via skype everyday. After sometime, I decided to copy the IP address and plug it in to a tracker online. they trace to different internet companies. I would like to solve this issue as it has become very concerning not only for my own privacy, but my safety. I would appreciate if I could get some help on this, thanks.

Sounds like your Mac is getting a new host name. It can happen via VPN's, DHCP servers or other network connection types.
You may want to speak to the network admin to see if they are assigning DNS names on the local network, it may be innocuous.
Have you altered how it connects to the network?
Disable wifi, remove any ethernet cable reboot - it should return to normal, reconnect to the network & you may see it change again (check via another reboot).

Can’t read application’s documentation unless app opens/no documents in app.
    Used disk utility
    How do I do this?
-1. Uninstalling any third-party plug-ins or enhancements for the application that's quitting unexpectedly. When you update an application or Mac OS X, a plug-in or enhancement you previously installed may not be compatible any longer.
Checked to updates for Address Book software – none, however there was an update for OSX to 10.4.8 - should I do this?.
Disconnected all other devices (should I have to do this?? Printer? Speakers?)

Running Apple Hardware Test, on a disc that came with your computer. If you just installed hardware, such as additional memory, Apple Hardware Test can tell you if it's defective. If you can't find Apple Hardware Test, take your computer to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
    Should I do this?

  • Software or Hardware in GPS on 5230

    Greetings to all.
I hope that someone can satisfy my curriosity.
I have a Nokia 5230. Bought it in March.
As I am writing, it takes my phone aprox 2 mins to find some 5 satellites, and point my approximate location.
My friend bought his 5230 yesterday. His phone, which I am holding in my other hand, picks up about 8 satellites in 15sec, and gives an amazingly accurate position.
I am curious, whether Nokia has improved the antenna in the past 6 months, in which case there is not much I can  do, or did they release new  software which improved the data management?
P.S. both phones are on integrated GPS only.

    5min..that is tough.
I understand that there are more factors which can affect the speed and accuracy of GPS. Maybe my city is being spied upon by more satelites.
What amazes me, is that I am holding 2 nokia 5230, in my hands, and the newer one is providing good results, and the older one kinda sucks.
If they were both consistently good or bad, it would be fine for me, but now I am curious as to the reason of this difference.
I mean, if they are continuously working on their phones, and the newer ones from the same model line are better than the old ones, that is a big plus for nokia, however, that would mean that next time I buy a phone I like, I will have some patience, and not buy it as soon as it hits the shelves.
In any case, thanks for the reply. GL with your GPS
