Am I going to duplicate Contacts by checking Contacts in iCloud System Preferences?

I moved MobileMe to iCloud last night. At iCloud.com all my contacts are there but they are not syncing. On my Mac, the Contacts box is not checked in iCloud System Preferences. If I check this, am I going to get duplicates of my Contacts, since they are already in Contacts on iCloud.com? If so, can I avoid this somehow?

It will ask if you want to merge them and you should be OK.
If you want to be doubley sure, you might want to select all the contacts (select the first and shift click the last and drag them to your desktop as back up and then delete them from address book before ticking the box and merging.

  • TS4006 my iCal in my new MacBook Air doesn't sync with the iCal data in my iPad despite having it "checked" (ON) in the system preferences iCloud. what else do i have to do to activate the iCal and have sync with my iPad?

    Issue: iCal
I can't sync the iCal in my new MacBook Air with the existing iCal in my iPad. I went to system preferences (settings) to iCloud and checked the iCal to enable it to sync to my existing iPad iCal. Still nothing happened. It's strange because i successfully synced my contacts doing the same thing. Is there anything I have to have my iCal activated in my new MacBook Air?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • Why have my Address Book contacts disappeared after uploading to iCloud?

I am using my MacBook Pro w/OSX Lion.
After having many, many problems with contacts, calendars and bookmarks in MobileMe, migrating to iCloud, encountering a huge mess of duplicates and even completely missing contacts I decided to start over.  So I disabled the iCloud account on all Macs and IOS devices.  I then ensured all contacts, calendars and bookmarks were deleted from the MacBook Pro.  I then used the Address Book export I'd made just prior to the migration from Mobile Me to iCloud and imported this onto my MacBook Pro.  I've completely gone though the Address Book and removed or merged duplicates and cleaned up all contacts with detail.  I backed up my Address Book again at this point.  I then logged into iCloud.com using my original Apple User ID (NOT the MobileMe/me.com account which I'm going to vacate) and ensured that there were no contacts in the cloud and I deselected the default calendars here as well.  My intention was/is to begin by starting small and deal only with the MacBook Pro Address Book and iCloud Contacts.  So after I confirmed there is no data in the cloud I go into the MacBook Pro System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details ensuring I was signed out of the me.com user and entered my original Apple ID I've had since I started using iTunes many years back.  I quit the browser and the Address Book and verified the non me.com user was saved under the System Preferences.  I then selected Contacts under these iCloud System Preferences and I was asked If I wanted to merge my contacts with those in the cloud.  Because there were no contacts in the cloud I selected yes.  The spinning indicator indicated that the upload was occurring.  Now, there are no contacts in the cloud and the Address Book contacts are missing.  Thinking that my doing the Address Book backup may have removed all the data from the Address Book, I deselected Contacts in the iCloud System Preferences, reimported the backup into Address Book that I'd just done, confirmed the contacts I just imported appear in Address Book and I reselect Contacts in the iCloud System Preferences and again I get the spinning indicator.  Again, there are no Contacts in the cloud and the contacts are missing from Address Book.
What the heck am I doing wrong?  I've simplified my original attempt with iCloud by concentrating my efforts to just contacts AND I'm only using the MacBook and the iCloud cloud and I've still got problems.  I thought this approach would narrow down where the issue lies and allow me to monitor the process more easily but I seem to be worse off than before I'd tried to resolve the initial migration problems because now I have no contacts.
I'm new to Macs so if you have a solution, please help and please give specifics because I'm still learning the structure and don't understand a lot of the acronyms and jargon.
    Thanx

If you have a back up file, I'd try turning off iCloud contact syncing on all macs from system preferences > iCloud –
    DONE
as well as any secondary accounts from system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars –
DONE (this was confusing but I figured out that you meant System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars which is what you said in lowercase.  For some reason without the capital letters I didn't clue in that Mail, Contacts and Calendars was an icon option under the System preferences and so I overlooked it multiple times. I see your use of "secondary account" which I note used also as a term in the User Tip link you referred me to view.  Although, I still don't understand what this 'secondary' account is, I'm not interested in any secondary accounts because I've got my hands full with just iCloud for now. I did delete all accounts under the Mail, Contacts & Calendars).
If you have any iOS devices I'd do the same on those as well. –
DONE (not even introducing other Macs or IOS devices to the equation until I get the iCloud and MacBook syncing contacts correctly)
I'd log into iCloud.com and check my Address Book was empty and empty it if necessary –
    DONE (it was empty already)
and then delete all contacts from every Address Book on every device
             DONE
Then I'd turn Address Book syncing back on –
DONE (This assuming that by ‘turn back on’ you mean System Preferences > iCloud and check marking the box next to Contacts)
and import my contacts from the backup file –
DONE (This assuming that by ‘import my contacts’ you mean importing the previously exported Address Book back up file back into the Address Book. I see contacts listed in the Address Book when I did this.)
No syncing seems to happen at this point?
you might also take a look at this User Tip, to ensure you understand the differences between the different accounts in Address Book before adding the contacts back.
I did read this but understand is probably not an accurate term for my interpretation of what I read.  I get that On My Mac will not sync with what is in the cloud and iCloud will sync with the cloud.  In Address Book under the single head red ribbon I see neither account heading that is mentioned.  I also was not asked at the time of import to select which ‘account’ I’d like the contacts setup under.
    A) If there is no indication as to what Address Book account the contacts fall under, how does on find this out?
    User Tips states
Your Address Book when synced with iCloud will have more than one account.
My assumption is that I'm not synced with iCloud if I don't see either account option listed. I also would think that if I'm not synced and thus don't have more than one account then perhaps the All Contacts default to an On My Mac account but don't reflect an account heading of 'On My Mac’ as seen on the screen shot of the User Tips example.
    Furthermore, User Tips also states
    Default Account
Your 'default'account is set in address book preferences > general (the option is only displayed if you have more than one account).
It would seem relevant to list which account your defaulted to even if you do not have more than one account because elsewise how are you supposed to know which account it is setup under?
    B)  How do you change which ‘account’ your contacts are setup under if they are under the wrong account?
Assuming again that my contacts are ‘On My Mac’, then how do I move them to the ‘iCloud’ account of which is not listed?
    C)  Will any of this be affected by groups?
The five listings under All Contacts are groups that I set up as a sort of invitation list (so Christmas cards is one I’d probably setup this time of year).  Although this question is secondary I would like to confirm that my interpretation of groups is accurate.  I understand groups to be a sort of tagging of selected contacts from All Contacts but that the contacts in these groups are not duplicates to those in All Contacts. Is this correct?  I ask because the User Tips states
To quickly duplicate a contact, drag it to your desktop, navigate to 'Groups', select the account you wish to duplicate to, double click the contact on your desktop.
When reading this tip, I interpret that dragging and dropping contacts from All Contacts into a group would be similar to what is suggested in this tip which would indeed ‘duplicate’ the contact.  I did drag and drop when I setup my groups so I’m concerned I duplicated the contacts in Address Book.  I do not see two copies of the same contact under All Contacts though.
By the way, don't take it personally –
I don't, I have reading difficulties galore and am happy to accommodate if I can.  I hope this is better. Helping you helps me if you're not struggling to read when thinking about the solution.
    Thanx

  • IMac contacts do not synch with iCloud, iPhone & iPad contacts do

When I add/modify contacts on my MacBook Pro, the changes do not synch to iCloud, or my iPhone or iPad.  Calendar items and iCloud mail do synch and contactys synch between my iPhone and iPad.  What am I missing?  I have Lion.

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.

  • Contacts won't sync to iCloud or Address Book

My contacts displays on my Iphone 3Gs (iOS 5.0.1) but i cant sync them to Icloud or Adress book.
Ive tryed every guide i can possibly find on the web...
Here´s two out of like 25 i have tryed.

    http://www.karthikk.net/2011/06/how-to-sync-contacts-with-icloud-on-ios-5/
    Problem nr 1:
If i go to contacts on my Iphone i can see them all but if i click on groups it shows only one group (All Contacts) and when i click  that group again ill see no contacts, however they´r still on the phone if i send a massage or manually put in the right phonenumber to anyone in my contacts.
I have to either restart my phone or turn Icloud contact sync off or on (Depends what it was when i did the above) and they wil show again.
    Problem number 2:
I want to restore my device but i need my contacts backed up before i do it.
I have a backup in Itunes but if i restore from this im stuck with the same problem all over...
So why not back them up on my mac? Well the thing is Itunes wont let me back my contacts up in Adress Book.
I connect to Itunes Choose my Iphone from the meny, go to the info tab and select Sync to Adress Book and all contacts but the promt for merge contacts dosent show up and it just syncs (including contacts as it says so in the window of Itunes) but nothing happens.(Isn´t it supposed to show some sort of vCard import window here?) My Adress Book is still empty.
    Problem Number 3:
    Trying to sync to Icloud.
Same story here... Turn of my Icloud contact sync on my Iphone, back up to Itunes, turn my Icloud contact sync back on but it never asks for a merge and i still got no contacts in the cloud... (well it did ask for me to merge like 2 times but that was no use since i had no contacts on my computer)
And yes all apps, programs and OS are up to date and ive also gone through the Apple Icloud setup ste by step ike 10 times allread.
Anyone have the same problem or know how to fix this?

  • Why can't I check the Notes icon in the iCloud system pref?

After upgrading my iMac on 11/19, I'm trying to get the Notes app to sync with iCloud, as I use my iPads' Notes app extensively at work.  When I open the iCloud system preference, the Notes app is checked at first.  It then becomes unchecked and when I try to re-check the box. system preferences quit unexpectedly.  I've also tried adding a note first on the iMac, and then going into iCloud system preferences, but get the same result.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Mike

OK, reading others posts about multiple accounts, I went into the Notes on my iPad, and clicked the Accounts button.  Sure enough, all of my notes on the iPad were under the account Yahoo.  Going into Notes on my iMac, and then going into Accounts under the Notes menu item, I only had iCloud and att.net.  When I chose the att.net account AND checked the Notes box, all of my iPad notes synced with the iMac.
I agree with a previous poster in another message, this is not made clear how to set this up.  I guess I lucked out that all 3 of my iPads are set up identically with regards to Notes, Accounts, and iCloud.
    Hope this helps someone else.

    Please try the following…

  • HT4906 Photo Stream will not remain checked in my system preferences

I have photo stream on my phone and ipad.    2 problems are calendar does not update to phone and photo stream cannot connect with computer.   I keep checking it in the system preferences and it doesn't connect and unchecks itself.

That has nothing to do with iPhoto. Try posting in the iCloud forum or the forum for your OS

  • How can I sync my contacts from the iPhone to google contacts while checking for duplicates?

I have been using Outlook to sync contacts and it works well.  Now I would like to get rid of Outlook and put the contacts that I have into my gmail and Yahoo contact accounts and keep all 3 in sync.  When I do it the first time, I'd like to be able to check for duplicates.  Is there a way to do this?

If you want your contacts to remain in sync across iOS devices, then you can use any Exchange-type of account.  For example, once you have a "clean" set of contacts with no duplicates, you could upload that into iCloud so that any change you make from your iPad would be reflected on your iPhone.  You don't have to use iCloud for e-mail since your devices can pull a contact from iCloud for use with GMail or Yahoo.
But you can also set GMail up as an Exchange account if you don't want to use iCloud.  The GMail account type in iOS is not Exchange, but you can set it up that way:
    http://support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?l=en&topic=14252&answer=138740
The benefit of doing this is (a) your Google contacts remain in sync across all your devices, and (b) your GMail will then support Push notification.  Just one caveat, when you do this then the default behavior when you delete an e-mail is such that it is archived to your "All Mail" folder in GMail.  The only way to change this behavior is to use your device's Safari to navigate to m.google.com/sync and change the setting on Google's server for each of your devices.  This is a one-time thing, but important if you want trashed e-mails to really go to Trash.
As far as Contact Management Software options to clean things up, Google search is the only recommendation I have

  • Duplicate Sales Order Check run

    Hi all,
How to run a duplicate sales order check report?
    Thank you
    Vinu

    Hi
Sales order number is a unique number in the SD. To check the duplicate sales order means r u going to check the sales orders with same numbers, or you are trying to check the sales order with copied from some other sales order
First case, you can check the SO number and capture the counts more than 1 sales documents
In the second case, you have to find the refernce number field in the Sales doc and compare the item...it will take a quite bit of workaround

  • Phone shows duplicate and wrongly sorted contact e...

Have synched my 6303 Classic with my contacts in Outlook 2003 SP3 on XP
Nokia communication centre (from PC suite 7.1.30.9) looks perfect - my contact list is fine and sorted by first name, last name
Unfortunately my phone is sorted last name, first name and (worse) is showing double entries thus
    Bloggs, Fred and
    Bloggs; Fred/M
Can I change this on the phone?
P.S. I use subfolders within my Outlook contacts, and also copy the contents up to the top level as I also have a Palm which only looks at the top level. I had assumed this was the cause of the duplicate entries on my phone, but if this is the case how come communication centre gets it right?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi tolgan,
Atleast in S60 5th edition phones have the following options
In phone Contacts > Options > Settings > Contact to display
    1) Phone memory
    2) SIM memory
    3) Service numbers
Check boxed will be there in front of all these options, you can select/deselect.  If you select both phone and sim memory, and if the same contacts are present on both these memories, it will duplicated on the Contacts of the phone, but an icon will be displayed before those contacts on the phone to show SIM contact/phone contact. If its a sim contact, an icon of SIM will be displayed before that SIM contact.
One way is to cumulate all those contacts either in Phone memory or in SIM memory and select only the required option where all the contacts are stored, its one time manual work but it will avoid some confusions.  Once you cumulate all the contacts in SIM memory, it would suggest you to copy those contacts to phone memory and select phone memory as your primary contact, so that those contacts can be backup-ed while backuping your phone using Content copier of Nokia PC Suite/Nokia OVI SUite, because as of now, Content copier will backup only phone memory alone, it wont backup SIM memory contacts.

  • Duplicate contact entries but not on iCloud...

Hi all! First of all I want to thank all the veterans out there (a day early) for your service....
I am running Mavericks on my MacBook Pro. I have duplicate entries in my Contacts. I got rid of some I guess by choosing Look for Duplicates within the app but it looks like they are all still there! I checked my iCloud account and that is fine. So what's the tip to get rid of those pesky duplicates in Contacts on my Mac??? Thank you! Judy

    Hello Judy,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with duplicate contacts.  I recommend reviewing the following article to resolve the issue:

  • DUPLICATE CONTACT INFORMATION, ON MY IPHONE, ICLOUD

this is NOT about duplicate contacts but about on the iphone>contact>groups
    has redundant lists
    ALL CONTACTS
ON MY IPHONE>ALL ON MY IPHONE + CATEGORIES
    ICLOUD>ALL ICLOUD + CATEGORIES
i don't understand all these lists. since everything is synced via icloud
why the whole list on 'on my iphone'? is it because the iphone list sits
in the memory on the iphone and the icloud list is actually accessing what is in icloud
(so for example if you lost contact with icloud there would be nothing there?).
just don't understand the concept. and how to simplify all the scrolling by eliminating
    for example 'on the iphone'

If you synced your phone with iTunes on your Mac, check iTunes/Settings/Devices and see if there is a recent backup of your phone listed. If yes, use it to restore from, contacts are part of the backup.
Also check if syncing contacts is selected in the Info pane in iTunes with your phone connected.
If it says that your contacts can be or are synced from your address book on your Mac, and your address book does have your contacts listed, your contacts will be synced again to your phone the next time you sync it.
Just make sure to have at least one contact listed on the phone, syncing to an iPhone without contacts listed will erase the info on your computer as well.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Contacts" in OS X v10.8, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" in OS X v10.7 and earlier.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
Address Book (Mac OS X v10.7 and earlier)
    Contacts (Mac OS X v10.8)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
